Summer is right around the corner so I thought I’d share some posts I’ve done recently (and some not so recently) to help you prepare for this super fun season!

Some people buy new clothes and makeup for summer while others get super fit for “bikini season.” Others do nothing at all and simply enjoy the weather.

How Do You Prepare for Summer?

What’s Your Favorite Part of Summer?

♥ Tianna

Today’s post focuses on all the amazing DIY pins I’ve discovered on Pinterest. There really are some awesome things to be discovered on Pinterest – definitely join if you haven’t already! It’s convinced me I can make everything despite a severe handicap (no, not really) when it comes to crafts. So, here are some of my favorites; I hope you enjoy!

DIY Bracelet From animatedknots.com via Pinterest

I’m not much for crocheting or sewing or anything that requires a lot of patience (a virtue I was not gifted with) really, but I actually love this bracelet and plan on making one (or several) for myself! It seems pretty easy.

DIY Nail Polish Tutorial From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’ve been wanting to try this one for ages and I really love this tutorial. Anyone tried this yet with their eye shadows? Any advice is appreciated!

Pinned Image

DIY Coconut Milk Shampoo From onegoodthingbyjillee.com via Pinterest

I really want to do this one as hair products can be pretty expensive, but I’m concerned about it being color safe. Again, if anyone has advice on this front!

DIY Re-Vamped Flats From makeit-loveit.com via Pinterest

I really love this tutorial for re-vamping flats as I’m someone who tends to scuff up perfectly good flats in a month’s time. Yeah, I’m shoe-abusive and I tend to get bored easily so this is a fun way to change with the trends without going broke.

Not sure if this actually works on nails, but I’ll try it soon and let you know!

never buy white strips again!: dip q-tip in hydrogen peroxide (the key ingredient in whitestrips) and apply to surface of teeth for 30 sec before brushing teeth) once a day for a few days. Teeth will look whiter in 2 days.

DIY Whiten Your Teeth via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m seriously going to pick up some hydrogen peroxide so I can test it out. Basically, you dip a Q-tip into some hydrogen peroxide and polish each tooth before brushing your teeth. Wait 30 minutes with the peroxide on your teeth before brushing regularly. People say there’s a huge difference when you do it for one week straight and it’s certainly cheaper and more eco than Crest white strips, right?

DIY Blackhead Treatment From stylebees.com via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m curious to see how it will work. May try this one tonight as I finally picked up some lemons. Anyone tried this yet?

DIY Eyelash Growth Treatment From fashionindie.com via Pinterest

I have seriously long lashes (Italians are hairy okay), but since I decided to get tweezer happy as a teen, my brows grow in bizarrely and don’t grow in at all in some places so I may try this one out on my brows.

DIY Nail Dots Pinned from Pinterest for iPhone via Pinterest

As I’ve said, I’m nail – inferior, but the idea of making dots on my nails sounds like fun. I’m like a kid banging on a piano – I can’t actually play the damn thing, but I can pretend.

At-Home Spa Treatments From lulus.com via Pinterest

I looove to do DIY facials in the winter for some reason. I don’t know if that’s because I’m in somewhat hibernation and leave my house less or what, but it’s fun and these are pretty easy to make. I’ve done all of these except the bath one and the anti-redness facial. Though, lately, I am getting a lot of redness (I’ve run out of my Suti Cleansing Balm & Moisturizer! 😦 ) due to the weather changes so I may try the anti-redness one soon.

Map Nails via Pinterest [Not sure of source – if someone knows, please let me know so I can update this!] – You can get a tutorial for this here though > http://polishpedia.com/map-nails.html

This seems like a fun alternative to painting my nails and it looks cool too!

DIY Sock Bun From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’m trying this one tonight as I haven’t had the heart to mutilate any of my socks until now, but this one seems too good to pass up and certainly more gentle than constantly putting my hair in a bun the normal way. Maybe.

Romantic French Braid Tutorial From abeautifulmess.typepad.com via Pinterest

I may try this come Thanksgiving. I really love the look! It’s so simple, but very romantic and it’s cold out and about that time when I get super sentimental and pull out my Pride & Prejudice and start quoting about “how ardently I admire and love you..” and my boyfriend looks at me like, WTH did you just say? with his eyebrow raised. Yes, it happens.

ANYWAY!

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far ❤

I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday!

I’m constantly browsing the web to find inspiring pictures of fit women, fitness tips, healthy recipes, motivational tips, etc. and I thought I would share some of my favorites with all of you. Perhaps they will help motivate you as much as they have done for me! Be prepared for a semi-long post of pictures!

[I do NOT own any of these images. I’ve only found them online. Some of them have been pushed around the net so long, I can’t find their origin point to give proper credit so if they belong to you, please comment and I’ll update them with proper credits. Thanks!]

I love this list of ways to stay motivated. It really puts things into perspective for me and helps me stay positive. Think of solutions, not problems. Reasons why you cant rather than excuses for why you can’t. Because you can.

I find this so awesome! I always clean when I’m pissed off or stressed so this certainly helps me see the “upside of anger.” Also, I like that I can get things done and burn calories too. For some reason, when I see this, I just think “hot housewife” or something. Weird, maybe, but it’s true!

[Source: http://bloging.lifeplusfitness.com/index.php/on-the-go-meal-plan-how-to-get-in-shape-with-a-busy-life-2/ ]

Okay so definitely check out the link above because it talks about how to pack your meals if you’re very busy, working, etc. The bag above, though, really caught my attention. It’s an earth friendly lunch pouch that has eco friendly gel embedded in the seams of the pouch itself so what you do is freeze the entire bag and then it keeps your lunch, snacks, etc. chilled for up to 10 hrs. Awesome, right?! If you want the bag, her post has Amazon links to a few different kinds of eco lunch bags.

Again, check the link on this one. This lady really knows what she’s talking about. I really like the tips she gives for working out and staying motivated and I love that she’s realistic about it.

I’ve just been lusting after these hotpants by Zaggora for ages. They’re meant to help you burn more calories while you workout! Definitely check them out, though they are a bit pricey.

This one just makes me smile. I love spreading kindness and happiness. I wish I could find the exact post this is from, but alas, I couldn’t find it. The blog is lovely though!

This is one workout I’m seriously considering. With all the amazing shows that have come out, I’ve gone from watching little to no TV to watching a million and one shows and I’ve begun doing crunches and things all through. This is a nice fun workout to try as opposed to sitting for hours on the couch.

YEAH! Lol, this is going into my list of “Things to say to my boyfriend,” you know, just because. I like to see what I can get away with. 😉

I love the strength in this photo as well as the lovely designs they’ve edited into the image. Very pretty!

[Source: http://dangshefine.stockphotosweb.com/post/26800417768 ]

I’m not that great at push-ups, but ever since I saw the Swedish version of the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and they showed Noomi Rapace doing those insane push up, crunches thing, I’ve wanted to be better at them. I’m just saying…she looked like a total badass.

[Source: http://fitspoholic.tumblr.com/ ]

I love this one! It’s so important to put in the extra effort because, obviously, working out and being consistent isn’t always easy. I’ve lacked serious motivation to stick to Insanity this week so I did it twice so far this week and nearly every other day, I watched some TV, but I did crunches, knee ups, squats and plank while doing so. I feel less guilty that way.

love this quote! I hate when either I catch myself talking about things without doing them or hearing others do it, it just grinds on my nerves. I want to be someone who does things, who has an effect and makes an impression. This is a great reminder to stop talking and do things.

[Source: http://dangshefine.stockphotosweb.com/post/26361210284 ]

So true! I mean, how much waiting do we actually do thinking there will be a perfect moment? But the thing is, the perfect moment will never show itself so just go. Just do what you need to do to get what you want in life because no one else is going to do it for you.

This one really put things into perspective for me. That is a LOT of minutes in a day. Of course I have time to exercise at least once a day.

She looks so graceful considering how awkward the pose is, but I love the definition in her arms and legs. She looks so toned and strong, but still lithe and feminine and that’s definitely something I’m striving for!

running songs for a half marathon

I love workout playlists! This one is really great! It’s always the worst when I’m on a roll jogging and the music runs out. Then I have to scramble to change the song and it throws me off my groove. Anyone else have this issue? Lol.

[Source: http://pattyys.tumblr.com/post/31883862654]

This always motivates me to try hard, work harder in each exercise I do, and run/walk/jog or just move for longer. The more muscles you have, the more calories you burn. Keep it in mind next time you work out!!

[Source: http://dangshefine.stockphotosweb.com/post/32821016965 ]

I want to look this graceful and focused while running. You know, as opposed to out of breath and sweaty.

Amazing body. I try to imagine what I would look like at my ideal in my mind’s eye. They say this can help bring your dreams, goals, aspirations into reality by visualizing and then taking action towards them. What do you think?

This is something I need to remember at all times. A lot of times, I find myself feeling super discouraged because I lost 1 lb, 2 lbs, etc. I know, it’s not a lot, but it’s still something and I need to remind myself that little things add up to big change in the long run.

I typically sort of have this hate for Dr. Oz ever since he featured “Diabesity” on his show, but I actually like this Tangerine “Weight-Orade” as he calls it. Pretty yummy.

This idea always excites me as I’m not someone who can all out sprint for 40 minutes. I prefer a calm jog/walk pace, but this is a nice idea to vary things up and rest when I need to. After all, it burns more fat that way!

I was surprised to find I actually do want this. It’s nice to be able to look back and be proud of your progress. No one wants to stay the same or never change. Everyone wants growth, progress, life.

I found this image seriously helpful for reasons why you’re hungry. In the past, I had a lot of issues discerning when I was actually hungry, when I was emotionally eating, when I was thirsty, etc. This is helpful to keep me mindful of my body and mindful of my food intake.

Exactly. You know, a lot of my goals in weight loss are not just about losing weight. It’s about proving to myself that I can do it if I try really hard. If I put in the effort. And it’s about living to your full potential as opposed to half-mast. Because you never know what you can achieve when you’re living life at your best potential self. Seems limitless right?

So, I hope this is helpful to you as much as it has been to me and have a lovely weekend!

Get Glowing, Youthful, and Hydrated Skin with Intrinsic Organics + GIVEAWAY!

So I recently discovered Intrinsic Organics, a natural, organic and handmade line of skincare and body care products. I was sent the following products and I am officially a convert of all three of them, especially the body lotion! The first item I was able to try was the Almond and Oatmeal Sugar Body Scrub. This feels lovely scrub is gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin, but gets some great scrubbing action so that it actually is effective for body exfoliation. It smells just like almonds and oatmeal and sugar (not surprisingly), which I love, because I find it really delicious! There are no oatmeal pieces in the scrub that I could see, even though I expected there to be for some odd reason. Instead, there are sugar granules and pieces and a strong almond scent that I really like. This works really nicely to exfoliate dead skin cells off your body without feeling too abrasive, hydrates the skin and smells lovely. The only drawback of this was that ants seemed to really like it as well so it attracted a decent amount of them all around the jar (though thankfully not inside it!). So, just as a hazard or warning, if you have any hint of a tendency toward ants in the Summer, you may want to hold off on getting this til winter, otherwise, I recommend storing it in the refrigerator when you aren’t using it. The fridge bit does make the scrub even more pleasant!

The second product I was able to try was the Hydrating Bergamot Blend Body Lotion, which is seriously one of the best lotions I’ve ever encountered. This doesn’t have the soothing feel of my favorite Skin Rescue Cream, but what it does have is the impressive ability to really hydrate the skin. If your issue is not with irritation, but with combating dryness, this would certainly benefit you. It feels like a cross between a creamy cream lotion and an oil type runnier lotion, but it really doesn’t feel oily or greasy at all. It’s a bit hard to explain the texture of this suffice to say that it works, it really does. It soaks in right away and just leaves the skin looking more nourished and glowing. I absolutely love this and will definitely purchase once I run out of the sample.

The last item I was able to try was the Chocolate Mint Chapstick Lip Balm. This is a really nice lip product! It doesn’t have a tint or anything, but the hydrating abilities of this are similar to the lotion in that it just melts into the lips without being too oily or greasy. It just feels lovely on the lips and very softening. I’m normally not a fan of chocolate type lip products, but this wasn’t so overwhelmingly chocolate that it bothered. Actually, I hardly notice the chocolate mint except in scent alone; the mint I do feel a bit because this is a little cooling on the lips, but mostly just super moisturizing and awesome to use.

Guest Post: “Fountain of Youth” by Kirsten @F00dVentures

A few days ago, I posted this post asking anyone if they wanted to do a guest post and Kirsten @F00dVentures sent me an email with an awesome post so without further delay, here it is and I hope you enjoy and check out her blog!

“Fountain of Youth: What I Do to Stay Looking (and Feeling) Young

First of all, I want to thank Tianna for allowing me this opportunity to be a guest blogger. I have had a blast writing posts on my own blog. It’s a bit of a funny story how this came about. I decided I wanted to do a post on the types of foods you should be eating for healthy hair. That same morning (literally as I was typing out that post for my blog), Tianna made a post asking if anyone wanted to be a guest blogger. If I had known that sooner, I would have saved the healthy hair post for her blog. ( Check out that post – here! ) But I think the fountain of youth will make for a fine post as well.

So let’s get to it 🙂

The fountain of youth is not a foreign concept. Everybody wants to not only look young but feel young.  While I can’t say there is really some miracle elixir out there that will suddenly transform you back to the way you used to look when you were in your 20s, there are small things you can do on a daily basis that will make all of the difference in the world as you age.

I think I’ve done a pretty good job so far, implementing these into my daily lifestyle. I take a look at my peers (I am 26) and can’t help but judge them. I remember what these people looked like in high school. Many of them have gained an excessive amount of weight, they have horrible diets, and still carry on as if they are teenagers (smoking and drinking and partying). They look like they are in their 30s instead of their 20s. I know that stressful jobs and lifestyles will take their toll, but there are only a handful of people I went to school with that have aged well (and we’re only in our mid 20s!) If these people look this bad now, just imagine how they are going to look when they are actually in their 30s.

So here are my tips for having that youthful glow:

1)      Protect yourself from the sun. I don’t mean skulk around in your house all day. Wear sunglasses and SPF. Even when it is cloudy out, the rays from the sun will still shine through even if you can’t see them. They can still do damage to your skin and cause wrinkles. So make sure to protect both your skin and your eyes all year round.

2)      Avoid smoking. There is mounting research constantly talking about smoking and the detrimental things it can do to the body. The most recent research is now saying that smoking can age the skin by releasing enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, important components of the body. When this happens, you are more likely to get wrinkles than your non-smoking counterparts.

3)      Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Dry skin is unhappy skin. Dry skin also makes lines and wrinkles more noticeable. Moisturized skin is happy skin. It also gives the appearance of youth. I make sure to moisturize my face and my body every day.

4)      Get enough zzzz’s. Research has shown that a lack of sleep can cause the body to produce excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells. In order to counter this, hit the pillow. Sleeping produces human growth hormone (HGH) which helps the skin remain thick, more “elastic” and less likely to wrinkle.

5)      Eat a wide array of fruits and veggies. These foods contain free-radical fighting substances called antioxidants. Free radicals are known to cause all kinds of diseases, including aging. Antioxidants combat free radicals so make sure to eat plenty of them on a daily basis.

6)      Eat lots of fish. Fish, especially salmon, contains essential fatty acid omega 3. One of the things this fatty acid is responsible for is keeping the skin nourished and youthful. The reason it’s called “essential” is because the body cannot make it on its own. So if you want that youthful glow, be sure to include fish into your diet at least 3 times a week.

7)      Don’t overwash your face. Like hair, your face makes its own oils that keep it looking nice and youthful. If you constantly wash your face, then you’re constantly stripping it of these oils.

8)      Avoid excessive alcohol use. I think the number one thing my peers do that makes them age is excessive alcohol use.  Alcohol dehydrates the skin due to its toxin content. These toxins remove moisture from your skin resulting in wrinkles. I’m all for having a good time but I’m a firm believe that a good time can be had w/o alcohol.

9)      Drink lots of water. Your body is made up of water. In addition to its many other functions in the body (transporting nutrients for example), it also hydrates the skin. So drink up that H20.

10)   Be conscious of what you put not only in your body but on your body. This may fall on deaf ears since this is somewhat of a beauty blog. I mean no disrespect when I say this. I love Tianna’s blog and I think she does a great job of using natural products. But one thing I believe that has helped me stay young looking is the lack of makeup I wear. I stopped wearing makeup when I was 19. The main reason was because I worked in a soup restaurant and by noon my makeup was practically melting off my face. It was not very becoming. Another reason was that it was just an added expense. And lastly, I was just sick of constantly having to check myself all day to make sure my makeup looked okay. I definitely have my flaws though. I still break out like a teenager which is annoying. But I feel that piling on makeup is not going to help the problem, I feel letting my skin breathe is going to be a better solution. So my point after all that, is if you are going to wear makeup or put things on your face, at least make it natural. Tianna has done a great job of reviewing natural products and has even sent me a few of them which I am ecstatic to try out. Just like you should be mindful of what you eat, be mindful of what you put on your body.

Hopefully this post will help you all find your own fountain of youth 🙂 “

Thanks again to Kirsten @f00dVentures for doing this awesome guest post!

Happy Friday !

My New Dessert Love: Frozen Grapes

So I have recently become obsessed with eating frozen grapes.

And not JUST because I’m on a diet, which I am.

But also because they are SO delicious.

Initially, I thought, “Well, okay, grapes taste okay and freezing them is supposed to be like a treat so I guesssssss I’ll try it.”

Do note the monotony.

And I cannot believe how delicious this simple snack is.

All I did was put a ziploc of grapes in the freezer for a few hours and voila!

My new favorite snack!

So delicious, low calories, perfect diet food and my new favorite any time of the damn day food.

Yep and it’s not totally unfounded either.

Did you know grapes have a lot of health and beauty benefits as well?

Aside from studies done showing the nutrients in grapes may help to lower blood pressure, it may also aid in the prevention of various cancers, improve cognitive functions, improve cardiovascular health and more!

In terms of beauty benefits, grapes may also help with cell regeneration and turnover, protect from free radical damage and oxidative stress in the body AND skin, and the alpha-hydroxy acids may also help to clear problem skin and prevent wrinkles and fine lines!

A little extra bonus, the malic acid in grapes may also help to whiten teeth by removing surface stain discoloration and preventing other stains from sticking as well.

Just more reasons for me to love them!

How about you guys?

Do you guys love grapes?

Have you ever tried them frozen?

Let me know in the comments!

The foodie in me is dying to discuss this!
