NEW Stila Cosmetics – Illuminating HD Bronzing Beauty Balm, Glowing Lip Color, and More!

Lovely NEW Beauty Items from Stila Cosmetics! - Storybookapothecary.com

I’m super excited about these lovely new items from Stila Cosmetics! They’ve recently come out with 3 new BB creams – an illuminating one, a bronzing one, and an HD type which I think is meant for photos. All of them are meant to be long lasting for all day wear. I love BB creams, but these seem especially nice for those who are going for specific effects on their skin whether that be glowing skin, bronzed skin or even picture perfect skin. I like that they are tailored to specific beauty effects as opposed to just being called “BB cream” or whatever.

A lot of cosmetic companies seem to be just re-branding their tinted moisturizers as BB creams and calling it a day which I kind of find irritating. I don’t think they really understand the meaning and purpose of Korean BB creams so they’re just trying to ride the BB fame tailcoat without fully comprehending the point, but that’s just me. I like that these BB creams have deviated from the typical western brand imitation pattern. I definitely think it makes these stand out from the massive wave of BB’s, CC’s & even DD’s that have come out recently.

Next, they’ve come out with 2 really lovely tinted waterproof liquid eye liners that are super whimsical and look like they’d be tons of fun to wear this summer! I love that both colors are very bright and that the eye liners are liquid and waterproof so they will last longer than typical color liners. Many colored liners that I’ve tried in the past usually have super light pigmentation, crappy color payoff or otherwise, they rub off in a few seconds so you can never get any good wear out of them. I’m hoping these have better pigmentation and the fact that they’re long lasting AND liquid ( will last longer on that alone ) sounds quite promising!

The last new items from Stila are the After Glow Lip Colors in Rave Red, Vivid Violet and Party Pink. What’s really fascinating about these is that they contain fluorescent pigments so when they are exposed to UV lights (aka black lights), they glow! They also claim that the colors will also be brighter in normal light due to the special pigments in the formula as well so that’s lovely! Other benefits include long lasting and super pigmented color pay-off that’s buildable, oat extract and sunflower oil to calm and hydrate lips, vitamins C & E for antioxidant protection and benefits, and delicious cherry flavor. I’m pretty excited for these lip colors because I love the 90’s rave girl look, personally, and I am really enjoying neon colors at the moment so this definitely appeals to me!

Summer is right around the corner so I thought I’d share some posts I’ve done recently (and some not so recently) to help you prepare for this super fun season!

Some people buy new clothes and makeup for summer while others get super fit for “bikini season.” Others do nothing at all and simply enjoy the weather.

Obaz Retro One Piece Swimsuit – Marc Jacobs?

Hi Lovelies!

I hope you’re all having a great week so far!

Mine has been really hot – we’re having upwards of 100 F degrees here in California, at the moment, and it’s been less than pleasant!

Normally, I enjoy this weather, but as I currently live in an area without a pool or beach nearby, it is kind of horrible.

That being, it’s led to fantasies about swimming and, of course, swimsuits!

There seem to be so many amazing styles floating around this season and I really think there is something for everyone. I’ve tried to do a good mix of plus and straight sized styles so everyone has something lovely to pin to their Pinterest “wish list” boards! 😉

I hope you enjoy my current lust list of swimsuits!

The Happiest Place On Earth: Your Guide to Disneyland — Anaheim, CA, USA

{ This is NOT a sponsored post in any way. I love Disneyland and all things Disney and personally have my own annual passport so this post is simply sharing my favorite bits of Disneyland. I am not affiliated or associated with anyone from Disney. All opinions stated are  my own honest opinions, as always. }

This is the first of a series of “wanderlust” or travel type posts I’ll be doing for the Summer as a way to share the places I’ve been to and really love with you all.

I hope that, if you’re traveling to any of these places this Summer, these posts will help make the most of your experiences!

One thing that my boyfriend and I share a huge mutual love for is all things Disney, but more than that, Disneyland, and I think many Southern California natives share this same sentiment with us!

Disneyland is the happiest place on earth.

No, really. It is.

I actually think one of the happiest moments in my adult life was my 20th birthday gift – an annual passport to Disneyland.

If you haven’t been to Disneyland, you really ought to and here’s why:

  1. Disneyland is the happiest place on earth.
  2. Disneyland allows you to be a child for an entire day, no matter your age.
  3. Disneyland has the best rides for all ages and is a great place to spend a vacation with your family.
  4. Disneyland is not just an amusement park – It’s an adventure of the imagination and the senses.
  5. Disneyland inspires hope, whimsy, and pure unadulterated joy from ALL of it’s patrons.
  6. It is literally impossible to be angry, sad, or upset at Disneyland. EVER.
  7. You can go on many adventures all within one park!

Now that you know a few reasons why Disneyland is amazing, here’s my unofficial guide to my favorite amusement park!

FAST PASSES

Just as a bit of a side note, since I’ll be mentioning these quite a bit in this post. A Fast Pass is a ticket that you can get for some rides (not all) at Disneyland, usually the more popular ones like Space Mountain and Indiana Jones have them. They have a few kiosks near that specific ride where you can go and insert your Disneyland park ticket and it will spit out a fast pass for that ride. The fast pass ticket gives you times at which you can return to get on the ride and wait in the significantly shorter “fast pass” line as opposed to the “stand by” line. The “stand by” line is just the normal line (or queue for UK) everyone can stand in and just wait to get on the ride. The “fast pass” line is for those who get the “fast pass” tickets and this drastically shortens the wait time, especially for the more popular rides.

One thing to note about fast passes is that you can only have one at a time so choose the ride you want to get on the most. It used to be that you could have fast passes for all rides all at once, but they stopped doing that so now you’ll have to get one at a time. I know it’s kind of confusing so if you want me to explain further, comment below and I’ll try my best to answer any questions you may have.

THE RIDES YOU HAVE TO GO ON

Rides at Disneyland are not the fastest, scariest, or the biggest you’ve ever seen, but they are the most fun you’ll ever have. They have a certain timelessness about them that can’t really be explained, only experienced firsthand. Here are the ones you must go on when you pay Disneyland a visit!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN {In Frontierland} :

Second to Space Mountain, this is my favorite ride at Disneyland. It has a lot of character. Everyone wants to be a pirate, right? This ride takes you on a boat ride through the world of plunderin’ gold and other piratey things, plus they’ve updated it now to reflect characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean films so Captains Jack Sparrow and Barbosa both make appearances. They feature some really awesome pirate music and the entire thing is a ton of fun.

SPACE MOUNTAIN {In Tomorrowland}:

Space Mountain is pretty much my favorite ride at Disneyland and it’s really difficult to choose a favorite one because there are a lot of really fantastic rides. Space Mountain is kind of difficult to describe, but it’s basically like going on a roller coaster in space. Like, if you were inside a planetarium with stars and constellations all around you and you were on a roller coaster inside that, then that would be what this ride is like. It’s quite fast, but in a fun way. It’s not scary at all. The line is almost always ridiculously long so I recommend when you get into the park that you get a fast pass for Star Tours (that is always ridiculously long wait) and then go straight to Space Mountain because the later it gets, the longer the line and if it’s hot out, you’ll be waiting in line in the super bright sunlight.

HAUNTED MANSION {In Frontierland}:

Although it has a spooky name, this ride is not scary at all. It’s actually really kind of dated looking, but that’s a big part of what makes it fun, in my opinion. It’s like riding through an old spooky “Haunted Mansion” and just sort of observing all the spookiness…erm, to spooky fun music. The ride is very slow so you can really take everything in and enjoy the awesome props they’ve put into this one. The line is actually one of the lesser busy ones and usually doesn’t take long to get into, even if you’re there on a busy day so you can go on this at any time – no need to get a fast pass.

STAR TOUR {In Tomorrowland}:

This is a newly renovated ride and features characters from Star Wars in it. It’s completely “virtual simulation” so you don’t actually go anywhere; you’re in a room with seating of about 20 ish people (like a plane sort of) and the seats move back and forth and react to what happens on the screen. This ride is VERY popular and you will need to get a fast pass for it VERY early on in your day or just get in the “stand by” line (queue) for this straightaway when you get into the park otherwise, you won’t be getting on it. It’s very busy and crowded and the wait can be up to 2 hours long, depending on how busy the park is that day. The ride is totally worth it, though, because it features Star Wars characters and a really cool space flight simulation of sorts. The really cool thing about it is that there are over 200 different scenarios you can experience on the ride so you can literally ride it 200 times and never experience the same thing. I don’t recommend this ride to anyone who gets motion sickness easily as the seats do quite a bit of jostling around, but it’s not overwhelming, and the ride is only a few minutes long so it’s up to your own judgment.

INDIANA JONES {In Adventureland}:

This is another personal favorite of mine. It’s also another pretty popular one so I recommend trying to get on this one early in the day as the wait for this tends to get really long or the ride breaks down. You can get a “fast pass” for this one and, if you’re trying to get on it in the afternoon, I recommend it because the line (queue) is in nearly direct sunlight at the beginning and it’s pretty hot if you go in the Summer. It’s definitely worth waiting, however you do it (stand by or fast pass), because it’s really fun to go on! It’s basically a reproduction of the Indiana Jones films (the older ones, not the newest one) and you ride an old jeep through an underground lair of sorts with really fun music, pyrotechnic effects, animatronics, and other bits. It really feels like being on a fun “Indiana Jones” adventure.

Other awesome rides include Thunder Railroad, Splash Mountain (great for really hot days), The Matterhorn (one of the oldest rides at Disneyland), Alice in Wonderland, Alice In Wonderland’s Mad Hatter Tea Cups, Peter Pan, Roger Rabbit in Toon Town and many many more

INNOVENTIONS:

This is not really a ride, but it’s still really awesome to see and they update the displays frequently. This is basically a walk through exhibit of sorts in Tomorrowland that is a couple of levels. They have a lot of futuristic technology on display as well as current smart phones, video game systems, and others that you can pick up and check out or play. They have a live robot show that is really cool to see, a display of futuristic looking kitchens and living rooms to walk through, and a closer look at the animations of Disney characters as well. You can also check out Disney songs and even record yourself singing them. I think this is a fun place to cool off from the outside and relax a bit, in between rides, and see something really interesting. Aside from the displays that are always showcased, they also have more current Disney items there like the photo shown above as they are currently displaying all of the Iron Man suits from Iron Man 3. This changes a lot and I remember back when Tron came out they had the Tron Cycle there so it may be something totally different when you come visit!

THE BEST PLACES TO EAT

This is a big one! There are a TON of awesome places to eat at Disneyland. One thing to be said about the food is that it can get pretty expensive so, if you prefer not to spend on food, I recommend bringing a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks and leaving it in your car ( It’s not allowed in the park ), but you can go out to your car to eat lunch – just be sure to have one of the attendants at the gates stamp your hand so you can be re-admitted!

If you do plan on eating the delicious food at Disneyland, read on!

BLUE BAYOU RESTAURANT:

If you can get in to enjoy this food, definitely do because it is some of the best food! You have to make reservations to eat at the Blue Bayou which you can do by calling in the day before or that morning. Otherwise, you can also go to the Blue Bayou in the morning when you first get into the park and place your reservation for the evening at that time. This restaurant is in Frontierland and is actually inside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride so it looks like it’s constantly late evening in New Orleans inside the restaurant which is SO COOL! Aside from the ambiance, the food is DIVINE. The meals are about $20-$40 each, depending on what you order, but it is totally worth it! Most meals are inspired by traditional New Orleans type food – Jambalaya, Seafood, etc. The service is pretty impeccable and while I wouldn’t eat there every single time I visit Disneyland, it is definitely worth doing at least once.

TURKEY LEGS:

This is what my boyfriend and I eat when we are being cheap, but in spite of that, these are one of the best and most delicious snacks at Disneyland! They’re slow cooked so the meat rolls of the bone easily and the flavor is brilliant. They cost a massive $9 each, but that’s kind of cheap in Disneyland prices, and if you like turkey legs and meat, this will be one of the best you have ever tried. The main little vendors that carry these turkey legs are in the center square that’s right out of Main Street before you go into the different “lands” on the left hand side.

BENGAL BBQ:

This is a healthier choice for those who are looking for more balanced meals, though still really great. Located right inside Adventureland, they sell meat and grilled veggie kabobs as well as tropical themed dishes, and drinks. Right next to it, they also have a slushy type drink bar that’s tropical jungle theme as well, though I don’t go there much.

CAFE ORLEANS:

This is another lovely restaurant in Frontierland that’s really good. It’s more affordable than Blue Bayou and still has similar food options with a few more dishes as well. It’s almost like an old style cafeteria, in my opinion, but the food is pretty decent. I personally don’t go here too much because it’s always packed with people. If you want to avoid the tourism rush, try another place.

REDD ROCKETT’s PIZZA PORT:

This is another favorite place to eat, though it’s kind of overpriced for what they give you. They serve a variety of mostly pizza, pasta and salads at exorbitant prizes, but everything tastes pretty good. It looks like a buffet when you walk in, but don’t be fooled, every item is individually priced from your drink to your salad to your entree so check the prices! This one is located right next to Space Mountain and is pretty popular, but it’s a more affordable option for those who want a place to sit down and eat as opposed to snacking on vendor cart food.

STAGE DOOR CAFE:

This is one of the cheapest places you can eat, but it’s very fast food. It’s located inside Frontierland and it’s not as busy as some of the other places, but you can literally go up and order and then sit down in the tables area and eat. Meals per person are around $10-$12 and they have limited options of chicken strips, french fries and soft drinks and I think maybe some hot dogs or burgers, but if you’re on a budget, it might be worth checking out.

TROPICAL IMPORTS {Healthy Snacks!}:

This isn’t a place to eat so much as it is a good place to get a healthy snack. They offer packaged fruit, various nuts, juices and bottled water and it’s one of the few vendors that actually offers it so if you have dietary restrictions or want to eat healthy, this is a great place to grab some snacks. It’s right to the left of Indiana Jones in Adventureland.

MAIN STREET SHOPPING

There are a TON of options in Main Street (where you first walk into the park) so I’m not going to focus on specific shops because there are too many to name. They all have much of the same merchandise and souvenirs so just have a look through them. Instead, I’m just going to highlight some of my favorite things about Main Street in terms of items, goodies, etc.

THE CANDY, ICE CREAM, & OTHER GOODIES:

First up, Main Street has some pretty extravagant candies and baked goods. They have candy apples in all manner of toppings from basic caramel apples to chocolate apples with sprinkles and more. They have rice krispies, handmade chocolates, and massive packaged lollipops. They even have a small sugar free section as well as flavored popcorns and things. One of my favorites on Main Street is the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor which smells incredible and the ice cream is really great as well. They have a nice selection of flavors and it feels very old fashioned. It’s a great place to get a cone if you love ice cream.

MERCHANDISE & OTHER SOUVENIRS:

There are so many places to buy souvenirs and things in Disneyland. You will pretty much be constantly surrounded by things to buy. One thing I think it somewhat worth buying are the Minnie Mouse Ear Headbands and the Mouse Ear Hats which come in all manner of designs. The hats can be custom embroidered with your name on them and the headbands come in many themes from mardis gras to traditional to purple sequins. Most of these are on display in Frontierland near Pirates of the Caribbean, but they have them in various places around the park. Another worthy souvenir is a t-shirt or sweatshirt, in my opinion, with the Disneyland logo as they’re a fun way to remember your visit. They have tons of candy and things, but these are more lasting souvenirs.

DOWNTOWN DISNEY

The last thing I wanted to mention is Downtown Disney. This is another place in itself that’s basically a shopping area right next to Disneyland. There are many shops, including clothing shops and a Sephora, as well as food vendors and it’s worth a look if you really want to enjoy some shopping, otherwise stick to Disneyland. This is a fun place to browse if you just want to get in some shopping, but it’s not a part of the park; they just have some souvenir shops in this area with Disney related merchandise as well as other conventional shops.

So those are some of my favorite things about Disneyland! I hope this unofficial guide helps you if you’re planning a visit soon!

Please let me know in the comments if you want more “travel” type posts like this one for the places I’ve been to (and will go to in future) in my area and others such as hotels, spas, and other vacation spots and I can do more for you all in the future!

What did you think of this “travel” wanderlust type post?

I’d love to know your thoughts!

Summer 2013 Makeup Collections I’m Really Excited About

Estee Lauder – Bronze Goddess Summer Collection

There are so many beauty collections that have come out (or will be coming out soon!) from a ton of different beauty brands for Summer and I’m excited for all of the bright colors and bronze, which is weird for someone as habitually pale as me, but hey, I can change right?

Anyway, I just wanted to share some products I’m super excited about for Summer so I hope you enjoy!

Estee Lauder – Bronze Goddess – Illuminating Powder Gelée

I actually swatched this lovely illuminating highlighter because I’d heard so much about the Estee Lauder gelee powders and I was pretty curious to feel the texture. This is SO beautiful! It is super soft on the skin and it looks luminous instead of glittery. It’s a very beautiful light golden color that I think anyone could pull off and it could be used as a highlighter or even just an eye shadow in my opinion.

Estee Lauder – Bronze Goddess – Pure Color – Liquid Eyeliner Duo

I actually went out and bought this recently because I saw it in a YouTube video of the Bronze Goddess collection and since I’ve been looking for a new liquid eyeliner that lasts on my oily lids, I thought I’d give this a go. It’s ridiculously pigmented, both the gold and the black colors, and they last for AGES. They just do not come off. I showered and wore both of these on my eyes for around 10 hours and they still didn’t smudge or come off. They start to budge when you apply oil to get it off, but these are super waterproof and long lasting for Summer.

Paul and Joe Beach Baby Limited Edition Summer Collection 2013

I love the pastel colors of this summer collection from Paul & Joe, especially their eye liner and eye and lip gloss duos! They all look super wearable and just pretty for anytime. I love that they’re duos because you can use the colors alone, together, or however you like and duos always make me feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck!

24574-300.jpg

Paul & Joe – Limited Edition Beach Babe – Eye Gloss & Lip Gloss Duo – Santa Monica

I really love this color for the beach. It just has that lovely shimmer that you know will look fantastic on a day at the beach or pool or whichever. At the same time, it’s really soft and while it doesn’t have the bold brightness that a lot of summer collections have, it still looks very beautiful.

24575-300.jpg

Paul & Joe – Limited Edition Beach Babe – Eye Gloss & Lip Gloss Duo – Nice

This is a bit brighter for the Paul & Joe summer collection, but I surprisingly like how these two colors look together. It is a bit indulgent in the 10 year old fun girl inside of me, but I still think they would look lovely!

Illamasqua Paranormal Collection

I have been SO obsessed with the Paranormal Collection by Illamasqua ever since I saw the swatches for these lipsticks on BritishBeautyBlogger. They are so lovely, even though they really aren’t typical of summer collections. To be honest, I’m always a bit more vampy most days anyway and the lipsticks in this collection look amazing!

Lipstick in ESP

Illamasqua Lipstick in ESP

I especially love the lipstick ESP – it just looks so bold and pretty, but mysterious. I think it would be so brilliant for night looks. I just love it!

L’ÉTÉ PAPILLON DE CHANEL

OMG! How pretty is this collection from Chanel?!?! I don’t typically gravitate toward Chanel that much, to be honest, but I love the theme and coloring for their summer collection which literally means ” Chanel’s Summer Butterfly.” I just think it’s very pretty and fresh and bright and I’m obsessing over their brightly colored mascaras!

INIMITABLE WATERPROOF VOLUME - LENGTH - CURL - SEPARATION (57 BLUE NOTE)

CHANEL INIMITABLE WATERPROOF VOLUME MASCARA

I am seriously tempted to pick up all of the brightly colored waterproof mascaras from this collection because they look so lovely! They have bright blue, yellow, and even a green tint and I just think colored mascaras are amazing at the moment. I don’t really know why I’m so fixated, but there you have it.

Clarins Splendours Summer Colour Collection

I love the look of the Clarins Splendours Summer Colour Collection, though it’s a bit more “safe” in terms of Summer looks, in my opinion. I just feel like it’s the same old thing and not that it doesn’t work because, for Clarins, this is still amazing. They do the all natural Summer look really well and their products always look lovely, but I guess I was just more impressed with the riskier bolder summer collections. Even MAC came out with some cool looking collections for Summer! Anyway, back to Clarins- their bronzing powder looks really nice and reminds me of something Mayan or Aztec and I love the idea of another shimmering body oil. I can never have too many of those – just saying!

Introducing the Hanami Collection

Hanami Collection – Spring Limited Edition Collection

I realized this collection from Alima Pure isn’t Summer, but I’ll do a separate post on their summer collection once I have a chance. Until then, I just noticed their Spring collection which looks really lovely and personally, I think would be equally lovely in Summer. The colors are really feminine, but still bright and beautiful.

Sale on Mineral Bronzer

Alima Pure Bronzer Sale

Also, on a more “summer” note, they’re currently having a sale on mineral bronzers so definitely check that out! You can get 20% off any of their bronzers by entering “GLOWING” at checkout.

Get Ruby's Summer Look

Simply Summer – Jane Iredale

I LOVE Jane Iredale makeup and this look they’ve put together for Summer is lovely. They haven’t released a Summer collection that I’ve seen specifically, but they do have a new tinted moisturizer for Summer which looks promising! I already have their brightening primer and you can see the review for that – here.

Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer

Jane Iredale Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer

This Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer has all of the loveliness of their other face makeup products, but has Summer in mind with it’s lightness so I will definitely look into picking up one of these for the super hot days we have here in Cali!

Zoya Polish Summer Color 2013 Collection

I haven’t had the pleasure of trying any Zoya polishes out yet and they’re not really sold in stores around me, but I have been internet stalking their site for months. If you don’t know, they offer natural nail polishes which are free of nasties, but have amazing long lasting pigment irregardless.

Zoya Polish Summer Color 2013 Collection

They have lovely colors and a lot of bloggers favor them for their long lasting polishes over conventional brands which is pretty impressive, in my opinion. They have a massive amount of color options available so there’s literally something for everyone.

Zoya Nail Polish in Rikki ZP674

Zoya Nail Polish in Rikki

I’m most intrigued by their Summer color collection with all of the shimmery colors, especially this one called “Rikki,” because it just looks like something a mermaid would wear and that says Summer to me personally!

Natural DIY Hair Mask Recipe_StorybookApothecary.com

I have been having the worst hair issues that I’ve had in years.

With the change of the season, I feel like they’ve only gotten worse.

Even with some of the lovely hair products I’ve tried, I only find temporary relief and once I run out of the products, my hair goes back to the same miserable condition.

Breakage, split ends, unmanageable hair, tangled hair, dryness, dullness, frizziness, a ridiculous amount of fall out,  lack of body and volume, and just a general crappy crap mess when it comes to my hair.

Originally, I tried this mask because I was looking for a natural way to brighten up my hair for Spring without actually coloring it given that I have given my hair a fair amount of abuse in the past few years where hair dye is concerned and also that I was too afraid to really experiment without risking more damage and drama in the hair department so going the natural route has always been the safest bet for me.

I discovered this incredible recipe on YouTube via Andrea’s Choice – see her video here – but I actually altered it slightly to fit what I had on hand and I think I’ve gotten better results because of it!

Here’s What You Need:

  • Equal Parts Organic Coconut Oil & Honey/ Manuka Honey – I used Manuka honey, but any honey will work. I say equal parts because I used about 2 tablespoons of each, but if you have shorter hair you could use 1:1 tablespoons or if you have longer or thicker hair than me, you might need about 3-4 tablespoons of each so just use your judgment.
  • A small bowl
  • A spoon
  • A spare Grocery Bag to put on your head.
  • A Towel for keeping the mixture off your clothes.
  • Gloves (Optional)

Application:

STEP 1:  Mix Equal Parts Honey & Coconut Oil with a spoon in a bowl until thoroughly blended.

STEP 2: Wrap A Towl around your shoulders and secure with a hair band to prevent any of the mixture from transferring to your clothes.

STEP 3: Apply the mixture with or without gloves, as desired. Where you apply the mixture depends on what effects you want out of this treatment. If you want natural highlights, focus on the top layer of hair and the crown of your head in order to emulate the way the sun naturally hits and highlights hair. If you want an all over treatment, apply the mixture from roots to ends, mainly massaging into the scalp and saturating the ends.

STEP 4: After applying the mixture to your hair, wrap your hair in the grocery bag and leave in, as desired, for 30 minutes to 2 hours. Your hair will get really stiff and feel pretty unpleasant, but that’s normal.

STEP 5: Rinse hair in the shower, first with water only and then shampoo and condition as usual.

The Result?

My hair has literally never felt better!

It’s super soft, manageable, bouncy, voluminous, shiny, frizz free, and it has some nice, natural looking red highlights in it! I’ve done this treatment 2 different times and had equally awesome results both times. I will continue doing this treatment every week or so for a bit as I’d really like to see how light I can get my hair to go. Also, I find that this treatment has done wonders for the condition of my hair. The difference is night and day and one thing I notice that I really love is that before, when I would wash my hair normally, I generally found that my hair was seriously imbalanced. It would get oily and flat in about a day’s time, but still feel really knotted, dry, and generally look unattractive. Now, after this treatment, I notice my hair looks amazing even though I’m going on 3 days without shampooing or anything and, for me, that is AWESOME! Lastly, another thing I noticed is that I’m experiencing bouncy waves and curls that I really haven’t had since I was 8 or something so that is AMAZING!

I hope you all can try this treatment if you want natural, damage free highlights for Spring & Summer or, especially, if you have any of the hair worries that I’ve been experiencing because I definitely think you will notice a huge difference!

What’s Your Favorite DIY Hair or Beauty Treatment?

I’d love to know in the comments!

4LovelyFragrancesforSpring_StorybookApothecary.com

The Spring and Summer are all about being light and airy, fresh and renewed, and I think your fragrances during this time should really reflect that notion, don’t you?

I have tried out tons and tons of perfume samples and purchased many of my own as well and I thought I’d share some of my favorite fragrances for the season with you all!

Parfums de Nicolaï – L’Eau à la Folie Eau de Toilette – This is, hands down, my favorite fragrance for Spring! It’s a mixture of lime and vanilla-esque coconut. You can smells the citrus notes a lot on top, but when it’s dried down after a few hours, you’ll notice the sweeter scents so it’s always changing, but also really light and fresh which I love! I don’t normally care for citrus scents in my perfume as I prefer more deep, amber types, but this one is really pleasant and comes from a really unique brand that I can only find on Beauty Habit. I’ve actually purchased the small bottle of this because I love it so much!

Alice & Peter – Cheery Cherry Eau de Parfum – This is one that I’ve received as a sample with a Beauty Habit order and was surprised that I actually liked it! I thought it would be all fruity and that’s not something I’m particularly keen on, but this one is really nice and not too overpowering. It has floral and fruity notes all through the top, heart and base, but surprisingly isn’t sickeningly sweet and it might be because they balance it out with vanilla and caramel. I’m not sure what it is, really, that makes this so nice, but I love it and the packaging is adorable and cute!

i Profumi di Firenze – Plenilunio (Full Moon) – This is my favorite perfume EVER. It smells incredible. I think it would be a lovely fragrance for Spring and Summer evenings because, though it is light, it’s a bit more on the bolder side of things. The notes are all over the place, but they go together surprisingly well. They include mandarin and strawberries with amber, white musk and soft woods so it’s a nice, seamless blend of that deeper earthy scent with a bit of light sweetness that is amazing to me. I will definitely be purchasing this soon from Beauty Habit ( they have the exclusive on this one ), but it’s quite unique in that it’s handmade in small batches from Italy and you know what that means, right? Yep, it’s expensive !

Honore des Pres – Love Coconut Eau de Parfum – This is another nice scent for Spring and Summer, but especially nice for beachy summer days! It’s very much tropical in character because they’ve included coconut milk, tonka bean, vanilla bourbon, and organic coconut essence, but all of the sweetness is nicely balanced with a bit of white cedar and, oddly enough, coriander. It’s really light and lovely, but has that bit of tropical island coconut scent we all seem to associate with Bahamas and the beach.

Have you guys seen this new product from Urban Outfitters?

I saw a post on this on TheBeautyDepartment and it’s such a brilliant and fun way to do a hair treatment, especially with your girl friends!

It’s basically a water based color tint infused into a hydrating hair treatment masque. So, you treat your hair with it and then when you rinse it out, it leaves a soft tint in your hair that lasts a few washes – fun right?!

If you want to pick up some of these cool tinted hair masks, they are at Urban Outfitters – here.

Anyway, I’m super psyched about this new product – What do you guys think?

May Lindstrom – The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I recently review May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil and really have loved it so much I’m likely to purchase it once I run out of it because it’s so lovely. Aside from it’s naturally nourishing ingredients, it includes golden mica in the formula which lends a golden glow to my skin whenever I apply it. I really love the mini faux glow it gives my skin because I don’t have to sit 5 hours waiting for it to develop like I would with a self tanner. Granted, I don’t get a deep tan with this, but it’s a nice and simple way to get glowing Summer type skin without putting too much effort in and the ingredients in this all over Liquid Sunshine Oil looks great on my face and body.

I really enjoy wearing it when I don’t feel like wearing any makeup, but still want to look somewhat put together because it gives my skin a golden glow and dewy healthy look that allows my skin to shine through and look beautiful while doing it.  You still need a sunscreen when you go out as this doesn’t include SPF other than what’s naturally in plant oils ( no higher than SPF 5, if that ) , but it looks great by itself on makeup free days or beach days for that added golden glow on any skin tone or type.

You can see my original review on The Good Stuff Radiance Oil – here.

You can purchase it from May Lindstrom – here.

I’m not huge on fashion trends.

It’s not that I don’t like fashion because I love fashion; I just prefer to do it my way instead of following the trends of the runways or whichever. I feel like some of the trends are super unrealistic for everyday wear and then some only look good on certain body types (usually stick thin) and hence wouldn’t even look right if I tried them. For this reason, I always seem to be on my own strange, yet awesome trend schedule and that’s fine with me because I like having a unique style and I don’t mind standing out a bit.  After all, variety is the spice of life and you should have fun being who you are, whether that means following a trend or not.  Just make sure you have fun and that it’s a style or look that you really like and feel confident in. That’s not to say I never like things that are on trend because I usually like a lot of them. I’m just saying I don’t really care if I follow them to a T one way or the other.

With that, here are some styles I’m excited about this coming Spring & Summer that may or may not be on trend 😉

The Ballerina Look

I’ve always felt like ballerinas have an ethereal grace about them in the way they can control their bodies, but also in the outfits they wear. From tutus to leotards to less conventional styles, there’s just something really classic and beautiful about mixing classic ballet pointe shoes with anything, really.

Chloé Ballerina Flats - Masha Dancer

Chloé Ballerina Flats – Masha Dancer

Take these ballerina flats by Chloé. They’re super fashionable and wearable for us who aren’t actual ballerinas, but they still have that awesome look to them. It reminds me of when I was in high school – I had these black ballerina flats that I’d gotten at Nordstroms. I don’t even remember who made them at this point, but they had ribbon lacing all the way up the ankle and they made me feel so light footed and lovely all the time. *Sigh* Those are some shoes I literally wore into the ground until my mom threw them out because they were falling apart so badly.

Brightly Colored Clothing & Accessories

I’m really loving bright Springy colors at the moment. I know that’s pretty on trend which is cool!

I actually first spotted this awesome Cambridge Satchel over on Minnie Mélange, only I prefer it in the coral color as opposed to the cool green color she picked up.

I’m loving really flowy material for Spring and I always love lace type tops and dresses, but I’d love this dress even more with a brightly colored pink skinny belt or something to make it a bit more bright.

SURRENDER BOW PLATFORMS – TopShop

Brightly colored platforms are a fantastic way to add color to otherwise basic looking outfits that include a lot of black, beige or white and I really love these bow platforms! They also come in a funky pink color as well.

Braids

I’ve always loved braids, but with this season and the amount of never ending ways people have recently come out with just astounds and enthralls me. From fishtails to milkmaid style braids, I just find them all so lovely and there are tons of fantastic blogger tutorials online to learn how to do them all!

Crisp Spring Nail Designs

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know how nail inferior I am, but ever since I’ve joined Pinterest and seen how amazing some of these nail designs are, I can’t help but get inspired to try some of them myself.

From salt manicures to these incredible jeweled ones, chevron designs, and other variations of the french manicure, it looks so fun and creative! I must admit that since starting this blog and discovering nail art, I have become a bit more ambitious when it comes to painting my nails and doing designs on them. Not saying I can do any of it or do any of it well, but I can try!

Colored Mascaras

I’ve been some kind of obsessed with colored mascaras for the better part of 3 months now, especially the copper hued Macao from ILIA Beauty that I recently spotted at Beauty Habit {see it below}. This one from Nvey Eco also looks promising and comes in black, brown AND blue!  There are also some pretty amazing color options from Sephora and Make Up Forever as well.

A Natural Glow

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I’m not a huge fan of self tanner most days. When it looks awesome it looks really great, but for everyday looks, I just can’t be bothered to keep applying it without getting sloppy so I prefer a body oil or lotion with a bit of shimmer in it and May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil is perfect for that, especially in the Spring and Summer when it’s fun to have that slightly bronzed golden look! It smells heavenly { like chocolate! } and makes skin look naturally glowy and golden because it hydrates really well and includes shimmery mica in the formula. It’s definitely a holy grail body product for me as far as packaging, natural formula, and overall effect on the skin both superficially and beauty benefit wise. You can see my full review for it – here. If you absolutely prefer self tanner, a really great one is the one by TanOrganic and you can see my review for that – here.

Nudes, Pinks, & Nudey Pinks!

Even when it’s not Spring, I love nude and pink colored pieces because they just go with absolutely everything and they look super feminine and romantic which I really love, given my period film obsession. It’s just the ultimate chic, womanly look in my mind, I suppose.

Neons

Neon Yellow Power Play Blazer – Nasty Gal

Normally I really hate neon, but for some reason lately, I am loving neon yellow, blue, pink and some shades of green as long as they’re paired with grey, black, or white. It just goes, am I right?

Wedge Sneakers

Hilight Wedge Sneaker – Black – Nasty Gal

In spite of the fact that my boyfriend thinks I’m an absolute lunatic for loving them, I really love this whole platform/ wedge sneaker trend! Ironically enough, I had some platform sneakers way back in the day when I was like 10-11. I’m not sure where I got them, but I remember I thought I was so cool because the Spice Girls wore platform everything and I finally had my own! Shortly after, my little sister hijacked them so she could look taller and I’ve no idea what happened to them now, but just the idea that I could get that Spice Girl style back gets my heart pumping! Anyone else relate to this? No?

Swimwear

Caged Bow Back Swimsuit – ASOS

The last thing I’m really excited for is swimwear because I feel like the swimsuits that have come out lately have been edgier and edgier and the cuts all look really fun and unique. The one above is one such style. Doesn’t it look cool?! The pieces tie in the back so it looks all bandage-esque. You know it’s a good day when one piece swimwear is looking pretty awesome as opposed to mom-like.

Dancing Mesh 2 Piece Suit – ECO Swimwear – Maaji Swimwear

I’ve actually never seen anything like the bathing suit above where the top is all loose fitting on top. It looks so comfortable and lounge-worthy which I really like about it. I think a lot of girls, especially plus ones want to wear these type of 2 piece suits, but without them hugging their body in an unflattering way. I love that this one is loose fitting because it can be flattering for many different body types.

Beach Bunny Swimwear – Time is Love Bikini – Orchid Boutique

This is another great style that’s really unique. It’s not as diverse as the others, but I really love the bead work and it’s perfect for those who get really tan in the summer because the color looks great against tan skin tones.

Malai Swimwear EXCLUSIVE – Gates of Chic One Piece Suit

I’m really happy that one piece bathing suits are getting less and less boring! This one has such a cool design on the back and I like having a nice one piece around for swimming as 2 piece suits just fall off when you’re trying to do laps. I’m just saying – a girl’s got to be practical!

Block Party Bikini – Nasty Gal

This last suit is a big trend for the spring and that’s color blocking. I don’t actually much like the color block trend in clothing as I think it looks a bit too 1985 for comfort, but I really like it here on this suit. It just works!
