Happy Mid Week Inspiration & Fitspo!

This week’s post is all about allowing yourself to reach for the success you truly deserve. I was thinking about this a lot the other day, especially in terms of my own life and success, and I realized that it actually is really difficult to feel like I deserve what I want. I’m not sure why this is. Is it from a lifetime of the world trying to convince me I am unworthy through media imagery and millions of must-have products or a more innate and ingrained feeling of  inadequacy caused by something closer to home? I’m not so sure where it comes from, but I know it’s something a lot of us, men and women, deal with. We feel less-than all the time and why? It’s not serving us to be less than our full potential nor is it serving anyone else or the world. So, today, I am trying my very best (and I hope you will all do the same) to just give myself what I deserve. This goes for any area of life whether it’s the proper care for my physical and emotional states or working toward the job I really want instead of settling for one I don’t want.

So, that’s the theme for this week – Give yourself what you truly deserve whatever that may be for you. You DO deserve it!

The last thing I wanted to share are some fun 30 fitness challenges that anyone can do. If you have trouble fitting in time to work out and want to get fit, relieve stress or just improve your day in a small way ( yep I’m Dr. Seuss now! LOL ), definitely try these challenges out. Everyone has time to do at least one challenge a month. The workouts per day will take you 5 minutes or less.

I’m super excited about these lovely new items from Stila Cosmetics! They’ve recently come out with 3 new BB creams – an illuminating one, a bronzing one, and an HD type which I think is meant for photos. All of them are meant to be long lasting for all day wear. I love BB creams, but these seem especially nice for those who are going for specific effects on their skin whether that be glowing skin, bronzed skin or even picture perfect skin. I like that they are tailored to specific beauty effects as opposed to just being called “BB cream” or whatever.

A lot of cosmetic companies seem to be just re-branding their tinted moisturizers as BB creams and calling it a day which I kind of find irritating. I don’t think they really understand the meaning and purpose of Korean BB creams so they’re just trying to ride the BB fame tailcoat without fully comprehending the point, but that’s just me. I like that these BB creams have deviated from the typical western brand imitation pattern. I definitely think it makes these stand out from the massive wave of BB’s, CC’s & even DD’s that have come out recently.

Next, they’ve come out with 2 really lovely tinted waterproof liquid eye liners that are super whimsical and look like they’d be tons of fun to wear this summer! I love that both colors are very bright and that the eye liners are liquid and waterproof so they will last longer than typical color liners. Many colored liners that I’ve tried in the past usually have super light pigmentation, crappy color payoff or otherwise, they rub off in a few seconds so you can never get any good wear out of them. I’m hoping these have better pigmentation and the fact that they’re long lasting AND liquid ( will last longer on that alone ) sounds quite promising!

The last new items from Stila are the After Glow Lip Colors in Rave Red, Vivid Violet and Party Pink. What’s really fascinating about these is that they contain fluorescent pigments so when they are exposed to UV lights (aka black lights), they glow! They also claim that the colors will also be brighter in normal light due to the special pigments in the formula as well so that’s lovely! Other benefits include long lasting and super pigmented color pay-off that’s buildable, oat extract and sunflower oil to calm and hydrate lips, vitamins C & E for antioxidant protection and benefits, and delicious cherry flavor. I’m pretty excited for these lip colors because I love the 90’s rave girl look, personally, and I am really enjoying neon colors at the moment so this definitely appeals to me!

It’s not always easy for me to stay inspired in life or my goals and it’s certainly not easy believing in myself, but the way I see it is, if I don’t believe in myself, no one else will either. Fun In the Sun Fitness: Aqua Cycling

I recently read an article about this new fitness trend called aqua cycling and thought it was a really interesting and fun take on water fitness!

Basically, the idea is that you’re cycling in a pool and the resistance is created and determined by how fast you pedal in the water so it adjusts to your own level.

What I really think is cool about this is that it combines having fun in the Summer with fitness, more specifically spinning, which is pretty intense and a very effective form of cardio. Sadly, there are no fitness clubs in my area that offer this type of thing, but if you’re area offers it, please try it out for me and let me know how it is!

There is a club in New York that offers it and you can check out their site – here.

Apparently, it’s also gaining popularity in Europe, especially France, and you can see a video of that here. A cool aspect of the way they do aqua cycling in France is that they actually do it  in a large pool outdoors instead of an indoor fitness pool and they’re in the sunlight with music so it really has that summer fun sport vibe.

For now, I guess I can try the hydrobikes in Long Beach which isn’t really the same thing at all, but does involve pedaling on water LOL.

Natural DIY Hair Mask Recipe_StorybookApothecary.com

I have been having the worst hair issues that I’ve had in years.

With the change of the season, I feel like they’ve only gotten worse.

Even with some of the lovely hair products I’ve tried, I only find temporary relief and once I run out of the products, my hair goes back to the same miserable condition.

Breakage, split ends, unmanageable hair, tangled hair, dryness, dullness, frizziness, a ridiculous amount of fall out,  lack of body and volume, and just a general crappy crap mess when it comes to my hair.

Originally, I tried this mask because I was looking for a natural way to brighten up my hair for Spring without actually coloring it given that I have given my hair a fair amount of abuse in the past few years where hair dye is concerned and also that I was too afraid to really experiment without risking more damage and drama in the hair department so going the natural route has always been the safest bet for me.

I discovered this incredible recipe on YouTube via Andrea’s Choice – see her video here – but I actually altered it slightly to fit what I had on hand and I think I’ve gotten better results because of it!

Here’s What You Need: 

  • Equal Parts Organic Coconut Oil & Honey/ Manuka Honey – I used Manuka honey, but any honey will work. I say equal parts because I used about 2 tablespoons of each, but if you have shorter hair you could use 1:1 tablespoons or if you have longer or thicker hair than me, you might need about 3-4 tablespoons of each so just use your judgment. 
  • A small bowl
  • A spoon
  • A spare Grocery Bag to put on your head.
  • A Towel for keeping the mixture off your clothes.
  • Gloves (Optional)

Application:

STEP 1:  Mix Equal Parts Honey & Coconut Oil with a spoon in a bowl until thoroughly blended.

STEP 2: Wrap A Towl around your shoulders and secure with a hair band to prevent any of the mixture from transferring to your clothes.

STEP 3: Apply the mixture with or without gloves, as desired. Where you apply the mixture depends on what effects you want out of this treatment. If you want natural highlights, focus on the top layer of hair and the crown of your head in order to emulate the way the sun naturally hits and highlights hair. If you want an all over treatment, apply the mixture from roots to ends, mainly massaging into the scalp and saturating the ends.

STEP 4: After applying the mixture to your hair, wrap your hair in the grocery bag and leave in, as desired, for 30 minutes to 2 hours. Your hair will get really stiff and feel pretty unpleasant, but that’s normal.

STEP 5: Rinse hair in the shower, first with water only and then shampoo and condition as usual.

The Result? 

My hair has literally never felt better!

It’s super soft, manageable, bouncy, voluminous, shiny, frizz free, and it has some nice, natural looking red highlights in it! I’ve done this treatment 2 different times and had equally awesome results both times. I will continue doing this treatment every week or so for a bit as I’d really like to see how light I can get my hair to go. Also, I find that this treatment has done wonders for the condition of my hair. The difference is night and day and one thing I notice that I really love is that before, when I would wash my hair normally, I generally found that my hair was seriously imbalanced. It would get oily and flat in about a day’s time, but still feel really knotted, dry, and generally look unattractive. Now, after this treatment, I notice my hair looks amazing even though I’m going on 3 days without shampooing or anything and, for me, that is AWESOME! Lastly, another thing I noticed is that I’m experiencing bouncy waves and curls that I really haven’t had since I was 8 or something so that is AMAZING!

I hope you all can try this treatment if you want natural, damage free highlights for Spring & Summer or, especially, if you have any of the hair worries that I’ve been experiencing because I definitely think you will notice a huge difference!

  1. Favourite spring nail polish? I don’t really have a solid favorite for all time, but my current is favorite is Tropicana Nights by Karma Organic Spa & You can see my review for it – here.
  2. What is your must-have lip colour this spring? My must-have lip color for Spring is Coral Dawn by Karen Murrell. I really love KM lipsticks for a number of reasons – they’re eco and completely biodegradable, 100% natural, and the colors are very beautiful and pigmented. Plus, they smell like cinnamon! You can see a bunch of her amazing lipstick colors – here.
  3. Show us your favourite spring dress! Hmm.. I don’t actually have one really, but this one is nice! 
  4. What’s your favourite flower? My favorite flower used to be roses, but these days I really love dandelions and orchids. 
  5. Favourite spring scarf/accessory? My favorite Spring accessory is probably my Coral Dawn lipstick by KM. I always feel like a nice lip color really brightens up your face.
  6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Make-up, fashion or both!)
  7. Favourite spring candle? I really like this one by EkoMiko Candles. It smells really floral and lovely; plus it’s very eco friendly and natural!
  8. Favourite body spray/perfume for spring? My favorite fragrance for Spring is the Parfums de Nicolai in L’eau a La Folie which I recently got for my birthday! It smells like coconut, vanilla and lime which feels very Spring/Summer to me! It really evolves as you wear it and smells light, but pleasant. 
  9. What is spring like where you live? It’s pretty much either rainy and cool or on the hotter side of things. Living in Cali, you’ll find that the weather is really bi-polar here. It can be super hot one day and then ridiculously cold and rainy the next and it’s pretty much like that year round. 
  10. What’s your favourite thing about spring? My favorite thing about spring is that we enjoy mostly warm days, but it’s not so hot that it’s miserable yet. Yay! Also, we get some nice Spring showers occasionally which I really enjoy. I also really love all the colors in fashion during this season. 
  11.  Are you a spring cleaner? YES! It takes me forever to get around to doing it, but once it’s done, everything is super clean and I feel super accomplished! 
  12. Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation? Nope not really. I’d like to visit Georgia, but we will see how that goes. I’m trying to pay off debt so that really cuts into my spending for trips and things, but eventually I will go to all the places I’d like to go and it shall be awesome!

Tone It Up – Bikini Series – 8 Weeks to Get Bikini Ready!

So, I recently joined the “Bikini Series” challenge which is a series done by the lovely ladies of Tone It Up, a fitness blog for women. The ladies behind TIU, Karena & Katrina, have both gone through their own weight loss journeys in the past and are now both fitness trainers and nutritionist experts. As best friends, they seek to help other women get the bodies they want through exercise and healthy eating. Their “Bikini Series” is in it’s 3rd year and as I had been following them for awhile now, I thought it was time to join in on the fitness fun, as it were.

Once you sign up, you get tons of emails with loads of workout routines, recipes and other tips to help get you started as well as daily emails with fun workouts they create on their YouTube channel for you to do. I’m not sure how they plan on choosing winners for this “Bikini Series,” but according to this post they did last week, there will be 4 Grand Prize winners that will win Contiki Vacations to go on their ultimate beach adventure as well as 20 prizes for other participants during the duration of the challenge which lasts 8 weeks.

So, I’m really freaking nervous about this whole challenge thing. It’s exciting and cool to have a great support system of women around, but then it’s scary to think about posting progress photos on the internet. It just freaks me out, but I’m doing it anyway because that’s how I roll these days. Also, I really like the TIU program and hopefully it can help me in my own journey to achieving body bliss 😉  so wish me luck on that and hope you all can join up as well!

Perfect Fit Rice Protein Powder

Coincidentally, they also sell their own Perfect Fit Rice Protein Powder which I was sent awhile back for review and have been trying it out. Basically, this protein powder is made with organic brown rice protein that is raw, gluten free, Vegan, Non-GMO, Kosher, Non-Fat, Low in Sodium, and Free of Sugar, Dairy, Lactose, Cholesterol, Soy, Corn, Wheat and Allergens. { That was a mouthful }

What I really like about this protein powder is that it doesn’t have any crap in it that a lot of other protein powders include that’s basically just filler and makes it cheaper for them to make. Instead, the Perfect Fit Protein is all quality ingredients and nothing more, nothing less. It tastes really good in smoothies and includes a nice portion of protein (15g per serving) so you definitely get the right amount for post workout recovery, despite it being a healthier option. You can use the powder to bake with as well or make protein pancakes, though I haven’t done that yet. The price point for this protein powder is really good and very comparable to others on the market, but more worth the value for your money, in my opinion, because it’s really good quality. One downside to this powder is that it doesn’t last well once it’s in a smoothie. For example, I made a smoothie with it and then had some leftover which I put in the fridge for the next day. I had it the next day and it kind of made my stomach hurt which I think is due to the rice in the formula itself ( rice expands in liquid over time ) so I don’t recommend letting anything you make with this protein powder sit. It works best when you simply use it right away. I enjoy mine in fruit smoothies.

On a last side note, they also sent me a really nice Summery lip balm which has a lovely fruit tropical scent to it that was nice to keep in my gym bag so definitely recommend that if you like cute, simple lip balms!
