Real Techniques Core Collection

{ This is NOT a sponsored post. I am not affiliated or associated with this company at all. I purchased these makeup brushes of my own free will and with my own money. As always, all opinions stated in this and any of my posts are completely my own. }

Everyone in the “blogosphere” has raved on and on about these incredible brushes from YouTube E-famous Pixiwoo’s Samantha Chapman – the Real Techniques makeup brush line – and after long last I have finally been able to get hold of some to see for myself!

I picked up their Core Collection and Expert Face Brush from Ulta and the first thing that really impressed me are the prices of these brushes. They are along the same price point of Eco Tools ( a big favorite of mine ) – around $8-$10 for a single brush and around $20 for a set of 3-4 brushes. The brushes alone look to be of very high quality and after using them, I find them to be very durable with little to no shedding from the bristles. The bristles are very soft and fluffy, but super dense and compact.

Included in the Core Collection:

  • Detailer Brush – Awesome for using eye shadow in crease, with cream eye shadow, or to conceal spots on the face. Although they market this as a concealer brush mainly, I wouldn’t use it to conceal under my eyes. I tried it and found it to be way too small and left the product looking streaky.
  • Pointed Foundation Brush – Although they market this as a foundation brush, I am not a huge fan of typical foundation brushes. I preferred to use this as an under eye concealer brush and it worked fantastically for that purpose.
  • Buffing Brush – This is a great multi-purpose brush for bronzer, blush or mineral foundation powder. I have used it for all 3 of these and it has worked really well. My only advice for using this with bronzer or blush is that you don’t need a massive amount of product. This brush is really good at utilizing a small amount of product for just the right amount of color payoff so there’s no need to pick up a ton of product because it will end up packing on way too much. This is also brilliant for full coverage powder foundation application – I used it with my Alima Pure Mineral Foundation and it came out really nice.
  • Contour Brush – This is one of the main brushes in this set that I was pretty excited to try out. It actually works just as they advise. It works great for contouring on the face and only a little bit of product is needed to create a nice diffused look. I really love it! Now all I need is a good contour powder! Any recommendations? Please leave them in the comments below!!
  • Panoramic Brush Case + Stand – This case is surprisingly nice and simple, but multi-functional. I was really surprised because it’s a simple fold up makeup case for the brushes, but one end can be flipped back which turns the case into a little stand for the brushes. It’s really quite a nice touch and it gives good value to this set.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

The other brush I picked up was their Expert Face Brush which has gotten really great reviews for it’s application of face products, in general, but namely liquid and cream type foundations. I haven’t used this for liquid foundation yet, but I have used it loads of times now with my RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up which gave me great results.  This brush is quite short, but the bristles are super densely packed so you have a lot of control. I find that with longer bristle face brushes, it’s really easy to feel like you don’t have much control because they are easily bent every which way. This one makes application easy, seamless and streak free without much effort or skill.

Overall, I really love these brushes. They are super unique in design, in my opinion, because they are made to help everyday makeup users such as myself apply products with ease and they definitely succeed in that. A lot of times, makeup brush brands generally all look the same and have the same function, but I really love that these brushes deviate a bit and offer brushes that are easy for the everyday person to use. I think these would be fantastic for anyone who is new to using makeup and makeup brushes because they are super easy to use and they are very affordable. They are sold in a number of places online, including on their own Real Techniques home site and even now Walmart’s online shop even offers them.  I’m not sure if Walmart has them in store yet, but you can find them in Ulta or Boots, if you have those near you.

What do you think of makeup brushes?

Do you use them or do you prefer using your hands or Q-tips?

I just saw that Too Faced Cosmetics is currently having a sale and yes, I had to blog it!

Anyway, they’re discounting things up to 70% Off, which is insane and awesome all at once!

To Get You All in the Shopping Mood, Here’s a Few of My Favorites from Too Faced!

Lip Injection Duo

Lip Injection Duo; $26 $10

I tried Too Faced Lip Injection wayyy before I started this blog which is likely why I never thought to review it. It totally burn-tingles going on, but I’m the kind of girl who wants plump lips so bad that I’m sitting there like ” Oo It burns so good! ”  Just kidding. It does plump lips, though temporarily, and it smells like cinnamon which I love! Up to you whether you like the tingly feeling or not.

Luggage Tag

Luggage Tag $10 $5

I have been wanting a Luggage Tag for ages so I might actually pick this one up. I just think they’re cute ways of accessorizing luggage and also a great way to figure out which non-descript suitcase is yours at the baggage claim. Just saying!

Natural Beauty

Natural Beauty Kit $29 $14

I really loved their eye shadow primer, Shadow Insurance, but that was a few years ago so no idea if they’ve changed the formula or not. If not, this is awesome! If yes, I am lost. I’ve never tried the face primer because, as you might know, I’m really paranoid when it comes to using face primers that have silicone. If you are too, feel free to check out this one or this one, both of which I love and one of which has silicone! I like this kit in spite of the face primer, though, because it’s a fantastic value and that’s really what a cheap girl like me wants – a fantastic deal. Yep. Thrifty is IN people! 😉

Little Black Book of Beauty

Little Black Book of Beauty Kit $36 $18

Lastly, they have this kit which I saw for $36 around this past December and have really loved the design of it, but was too cheap to spring for it at the time. Now that it’s literally half the price, I just might pick it up!

Get A Customized Sun-Kissed Look + Natural Sun Protection With Susan Posnick’s ColorFLO Bronzer!

Susan Posnick’s ColorFLO Bronzer

I was so happy to receive this for review from the lovely Susan Posnick because I have read so many reviews on the ColorFLO Face Mineral Powder Foundation and I was impressed by the high level of natural sun protection her line of mineral makeup offers and the natural ingredient list that includes vitamins A and E for skin benefits while you wear it!

This bronzer is super easy to use and, although it comes in only one shade, it is easily customized to your skin tone, the desired amount of coverage and cosmetic use.

It comes in a tube with an attached brush and pump so you can easily apply this loose bronze powder wherever you are. I should mention that a little bit goes a long way with this powder so don’t click the pump too many times. It comes out and seems like it’s not much, but the color is very pigmented and you may end up with more mineral bronzer than you want on your cheeks. The benefit of this is that once you get the hang of how to control the application of this bronzer, you can build the coverage from a light glowing flush of color to a full color pigmented bronzer all over, as desired.

I’ve tried this in a number of ways: as a light flush of color on the top of my cheek bones without any other makeup, as a contour bronze in the hollows of my cheeks, and as an all over bronzer when I felt like looking particularly sun-kissed and beach ready. Be careful not to use too heavy a hand because it can have disastrous effects; a light hand provides sheer, glowing skin effects that look awesome so tread lightly!

Lastly, I love the vitamin benefits and natural sunscreen properties in this because my skin is both protected from free radicals and damaging UV rays all in one fell swoop. It’s perfect for lazy summer days when I don’t feel like applying a million and one skincare layers just to protect my skin from everything under the sun (literally and figuratively!).

I definitely recommend this for the Summer because it’s so easy to use and very versatile.  The soft milled powders look really natural, softening fine lines and minimizing pores. The only downside to this is the price; at $64 USD, it’s sitting firmly in the luxury cosmetic category. If you have the money to spare, it’s definitely worth a go given the natural and skin beneficial ingredient list. I’ve been carrying it around with me for days when I look particularly tired or pale to give my skin a nice glow or for poolside days when I want to look sun-kissed!

Physician’s Formula Cashmere Wear™ Ultra-Smoothing Bronzer Review

So I recently picked this up at Target for $13.99 USD, which is a pretty good deal in my opinion! I’d heard a lot of buzz about this bronzer as a possible drugstore type bronzing powder option for those on a budget and it includes some beneficial skin ingredients as well.

This bronzer goes on very smooth and soft, it looks quite light and lends only a slight shimmer to the skin in a really nice peachy beige color that I think would be flattering to any skin tone, but will work especially well for anyone like me who is unbearably pale.

It really gives off a nice “glow” type look without looking like you got smacked in the face with glitter or making your skin look super shiny so it’s a great option for anyone who wants something a bit more subtle or who is avoiding bronzing liquids for fear of looking too shiny. This isn’t extremely shiny at all. It is really light and soft so I only use it as a nice highlighter type over the top of my cheek bones. If you’re looking for something to contour and shape with while giving your skin a nice bronze, check out the CARGO HydraBronze I featured recently – here!  Also, a nice plus of this bronzing powder is that the formula includes hyaluronic acid (in the form of sodium hyaluronate) so this theoretically will help hydrate the skin while wearing it. No word on how accurate this claim is, but it definitely hasn’t dried my skin or made me look ashy so that’s awesome!

Other Features:

  • Fragrance Free
  • Oil Free
  • Non-comedogenic

Overall, I really like this bronzing powder. It is a nice highlighter and feels really soft and light on the skin. It hasn’t broken my skin out and it doesn’t look cakey. I definitely recommend this to those trying to get the “glowing skin” look without looking oily or shiny or anyone who wants a nice bronzer powder with a bit of shimmer, but very little to no glitter. This is super affordable and very available at any local drugstore like Walgreens, Rite Aid, or CVS. Alternatively, you can also find this at Target or on Drugstore.com. It is also available directly from Physician’s Formula – here!

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Powder

I am a huge fan of Juice Beauty products and this is one of my favorites in their line.

It is definitely my favorite blemish clearing powder on the market.

They may have been the ones to pioneer this type of powder, but I am really not sure as Bare Minerals and E.L.F. both have mineral powders that claim to do the same as this one, but which I tried and fell short in my opinion, though E.L.F. is definitely a cheaper option.

I tried this powder 2 separate times with various results, but I have used up both completely.

Application Instructions from Juice Beauty:

The perfect addition to Juice Beauty’s Organics to Clear Skin regimen. For day wear, layer and finish with our Foundation or Powder. For night, use to calm and clear.

Product Claims :

This on the spot Blemish Clearing Powder combines organic fruit extracts, minerals and bamboo powder to soothe, calm and clear blemishes, leaving your skin healed and concealed.

My Experiences: I tried this blemish clearing powder for the first time some time last year. I really loved it! It works well against breakouts, sets well over makeup, under makeup, or you can even wear this to sleep over your nighttime skincare. It is pretty light, but you can wear it alone if you want to go makeup free during the day as well. I love that it is made with mostly natural and organic ingredients, especially organic aloe powder and the various organic fruit extracts. This powder is really healing, not drying at all and has a nice finish to it.

My only real issue with this is that it is expensive ($29) for the amount you get, which is less than 1/2 Oz. It just was not cost effective for me to buy this every 2 months when I, inevitably, ran out. I do not mind dropping a large sum of money on my skincare or even makeup products when the product 1.) lives up to its promises and 2.) lasts a sufficient amount of time which, for me, is about 3 months. This powder lasts me like 1-2 months, if that, but if you can afford it, the powder is amazing. I would use it as a powder foundation, finishing powder and treatment for acne ALL THE TIME, but the size of this powder is just not economical for me.

Product Cons:

  • May be considered expensive to some
  • Small size (less than 1 Oz.) may not be considered economical

Final Thoughts:

I really love this powder. Not only does this powder clear my breakouts quickly and without causing any dryness, but the finish is awesome and matte, which I love. I love that the ingredients are natural and organic. The ingredients include organic aloe and bamboo, which I know help to calm redness and irritation. I also love that they include organic pomegranate seed oil to help with collagen synthesis because it means I’m getting both an acne and wrinkle treatment in this powder. I would permanently use it as a mineral foundation replacement if it came in a larger size, but unfortunately, it does not.

I really hate that this comes in such a small size (.35 Oz.) because it’s not economical for me. I wish that it was a larger size so it would last me a longer amount of time. Then I would be able to justify spending nearly $30 USD on it if it lasted me a few months. When I used this, it barely lasts me a month when I have bad breakouts and it lasts me about 2 when I spot treat. That being said, if you can afford it, it is SO worth it!

For anyone with occasional breakouts and spots, this is the perfect way to treat them! It’s not drying, irritating, and it won’t make you peel. I wore this over makeup, under makeup, as a makeup replacement, and to bed. It never broke me out, it looked great with my makeup, though if you don’t like a matte finish, you may not like it. For someone like me, especially in summertime when I’m battling oily shine, I love it.
