Hello Lovelies!

I saw this post on Creativity Arise the other day and loved her post so I thought I’d do it as well! I am loving these little questionnaires on different topics lately for some reason. I also thought this one was quite appropriate given I’ve woken up to rainy overcast this morning and, in Cali, we associate that with Fall & Winter as we really don’t get snow. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and anyone who wants to do the tag, please do(!), and definitely link me in the comments so I can read your responses!

1. What is your favorite thing about winter?

My favorite thing about winter is the rain, the boots, and the scent of chimney smoke on cold air.

2. What is your least favorite thing about winter?

The difficult time I seem to have getting out of bed, you know, more than usual when it’s freezing cold out.

Health & Beauty

3. What are your favorite skin care items for the cold winter months?

I have soo many, but lately I’m all about Suti’s Cleanse Organic Balm & Purity Balm as my skin has been kind of dry lately. (See reviews for those here & here) I also really love cleansing oils. My favorite cleansing oil is the one from Antonia Burrell which is great for both acne and dry skin (see the review for it here), but right now I’m testing out one from Moist.

4. What’s your favorite travel size hand cream?

Hands down – Erbaviva Hand Cream. It’s so gentle & nourishing, but there’s no greasiness to it at all. It’s a great one for cold weather. See my review for it here.

5. What are your favorite eye shadow/ lipstick colors for winter months?

Right now, I’m really into doing a daytime type smoky eye with all brown, beige, bronze and gold type colors and also simple liquid eyeliner in plum colors. For lipstick, I am on the lookout for a nice deep plum or burgundy color that’s been on trend for fall, but I haven’t found one yet. If anyone has any advice on a good one, do let me know! Other than that, I love the lipsticks by Karen Murrell & ILIA. See reviews on both here & here.

6. What is your favorite hair product for the cold winter months?

I really love the Max Green Alchemy line of hair products You can see their review here. I also really love the deep conditioner from Brown Butter Beauty which is super affordable and organic. Not sure why I haven’t done a review yet.

Fashion Preference

Boots: thigh high, knee high, mid calf, flat boots, or booties?

Knee high and thigh high boots for life! I love that look with leggings or tights. I love the style of ankle/ calf boots, but my calves tend to be a bit on the large size so they just make me look short and I kind of avoid them for that haha. Wish I was taller!

Layering: Cardigans, blazers, or pull over sweaters/jumpers?

Cardigans and hoodies. I love hoodies when I’m just cold and feeling lazy. I love cardigans and leather jackets with scarves, though, for a really cute fashionable look.

Accessories: Hats, scarves, or gloves?

Scarves & gloves! I’m not much of a hat person. My mom kind of freaked me out about it when I was young because my sister and I went through a very odd phase of wearing backward caps every day (like I said, ODD phase! LOL. ) and my mom kept telling me I was going to lose my hair if I wore hats all the time so ever since then, I’ve sort of been traumatized against wearing them. Yep.

Dresses or pants (trousers)?

Pants, leggings, jeans, etc. I also really love shorts with tights. I went through a stint where all I wore was dresses, but lately I’m anti-dresses.

Life

What is your favorite winter holiday?

Halloween. It’s just full of so much life and character.

What is your favorite drink during the cold winter months?

hot ginger tea with lemon & honey, jasmine green tea plain, and occasionally hot chocolate is nice.

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

I don’t really have one, but I do love The Santa Clause and watching Twilight Zone marathons. For some reason, I also really get a yearning to watch period films like Pride & Prejudice in winter…

Would you rather…

…attend a Christmas party or New Year’s Eve party?

NYE party as I always stay home and it would be a lovely change!

…toast marshmallows in your indoor fireplace or outdoors at a bonfire?

bonfires on the beach are the best, but I also love fire pits!

…go north to New York City or south to Miami?

NYC! I’ve never been and always wanted to go for a visit. I’d love watch the ball drop on NYE!

…bring the new year in partying at a club with friends, spending quality time at home with family watching the ball drop, at church praising God for blessing you to see another year, or having dinner with family and friends?

I would love to go to or have a dinner party with both friends and family. We’ve always been real casual, but I’d love to do a formal dinner party type event.

…create a New Year’s resolution or focus on something else?

I love NY resolutions, but I prefer not to wait for the NY to do them. I’m always working toward my goals, no matter the time or place.

…go snowboarding, skiing, ice skating, or have a snowball fight?

I love ice skating! Snowboarding mildly terrifies and thrills me at the same time. I used to really love skiing as a child, but I haven’t done it in ages. As I said, I live in Cali so I have to travel an hour or so to the mountains to enjoy this kind of thing. I’m just happy when I visit snow because I never see it otherwise. I enjoy sledding haha.

Last but not least….

Tell me your favorite memory of winter.

One of my favorite memories of winter is going up to Mt. High with my sister and going sledding all day. Also, the first time I went snowboarding with my boyfriend and some friends. It was such a great day. We all took lessons and went boarding. I was not very accomplished at it and, living in Cali, went smartly in layered jeans + leggings. Not only did I get seriously drenched after a few hours of doing that, but we all had bruises and welts from bailing out so many times going down hills haha.

What’s Your Favorite Part About Winter?

I was reading this post on La Belle Dame Sans Merci and thought it was really fun, not only reading more about her as a person (which kind of gives insight into her blogging and style, tbh!), but I also thought it might be fun to do the tag here as well so I hope you enjoy!

Are you named after anyone?
This may come off as kind of odd, but I’m actually named after a street in Hollywood somewhere according to my mom. She worked there in her 20’s and I guess she passed that street (aptly named Tianna Road, I believe) and vowed that, if she had a daughter, she would name her Tianna as she loved the name so much. It’s weird, I know, but my mom is someone who dances to the beat of her own drum in every sense of the word.


When was the last time you cried?

It’s been awhile since I actually had a good cry, but I get teary eyed watching movies all the time. Like, all the time haha.

Do you have children?
Nope. I’m 23 and no thoughts of having kids at this point. I like kids, but I also like giving them back to their parents at the end of the day!


If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
Uh YEAH! Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty awesome. I know lots of cool and fun things to do, I do eye shadow decently (so we could be all girly n shizz) AND I have tons of movies to introduce you to. Oh, and I cook yummy food. I’m also quite a good gift giver. Now I feel like I’m a friend applicant in an interview or something…so weird to talk about myself, but I AM COOL OKAY. Haha.


Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Yes, definitely. Apart from being American, I’m Irish and Italian heritage so I pretty much subsist on sarcasm and trying to get the last word in edgewise.

What’s your favourite cereal?
Hmm. I don’t eat much cereal, but when I do, I prefer Honey Bunches of Oats.

Whats the first thing you notice about people?

The first thing I notice about people is whether or not they have a sense of humor. I can’t handle people who are overly serious about everything. You need to be able to laugh because life sucks sometimes and I need someone to make fun of it with me.


What’s your eye colour?

Scary movie or happy endings?

Both! I am a HUGE movie buff. My current favorite horror film is Silent Hill 2 and my all time favorite romance is … ermm that question is too hard, but my favorites are Pride & Prejudice and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Favourite smells?
Coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, lemon, cilantro, cucumbers, andddddddddddddddddddd jasmine green tea. I also love perfumes, but don’t get me started, it’s a long list!


Summer or Winter?
Fall / Winter. I don’t like the extreme heat, but I don’t really like constant snow much either. That’s why I love California. It’s an equal hour to either the beach or the mountains.

Computer or television?

Computer. I love my laptop!

What’s the furthest you’ve been away from home? 

Cardiff, Wales


Do you have any special talents?

I can sing, act, anddddd I’m quite a good cook. I write really great angsty poetry as well. 😉

Where were you born? 

Southern California, born and raised.

What are your hobbies? 

Singing, Acting, Writing, Blogging, Cooking, Reading, Fitness, and Films.


Favourite movies?

WAY too many to name them all, but off the top of my head – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Love Me If You Dare, A Good Year, Pride & Prejudice (with Keira Knightley), The Painted Veil, Harry Potter films, The Girl in the Cafe, Dark Knight, and  yeah just ask me haha. I am movie obsessed.

I know, I know. It might sound tantamount to self-absorbed to be giving yourself a gift, but hear me out. As someone who normally forgets about herself and always puts others’ needs before my own, I think it’s high time I gave myself a gift and a lot of us women are the same in that.

We become preoccupied with the needs of others before our own and the next thing you know, you’re the one letting yourself fall off the deep end, especially where health is concerned, so I decided to say no this year.

No, I will not bake all that unhealthy food. I am going to exercise 5-6 times per week and eat healthily instead. No, I don’t want to cook for 4 hours while everyone else enjoys the holiday. I’d rather pitch in and contribute one or two dishes and spend the time with those I love instead of slaving over a hot stove, but I digress.

So, this holiday season, take some time and dedicate a bit of it to yourself – whatever that means. Whether it’s taking the extra hour or so to read, exercise, or something else for just you, I say do it.

After all, you’re important too, right?

So, right now, I (and the damn universe!) am giving you permission to do something for your health, state of mind, and overall well being this year and not feel bad about it.

Don’t wait until the new year to get your resolutions together.

Start right now and don’t stop.

The rain – hands down! I also like the smell of fireplaces in the cold air, wearing boots and scarves, and the fact that it gets darker earlier. I’m something of a night owl.

What’s Your Favorite Thing About Fall?

So, you know that feeling: it’s Tuesday, yet I still feel sluggish, unmotivated, and tired. I don’t want to work out at all, but yet, I do. I know if I don’t I’ll have that negative self-talk to battle in the back of my mind and the nagging disappointment in the pit of my stomach, but the junk I ate over the weekend is taking it’s toll. I feel less than motivated to get going again.

What do you do when you’re feeling like utter crap, but you know you need to get up and go to keep your goals in order? I personally look for any and all motivating photos, quotes and plans I can find ASAP! I know, it sounds a bit cheesy, but it really does help get me in the mood. And if my diet has been less than stellar the past weekend, I get back on track with morning fruit (or plain yogurt w/ PB) and a light sandwich or salad for lunch. Aside from that, I start downing cups of water like my life depends on it. I know it sounds extreme, but if I feel fatigued, water really does help pick me up a bit.

How do you get/stay motivated to work out?

I hope everyone’s had a lovely week up until now and is planning something fun for the weekend!

Personally, I will hopefully be going to see Silent Hill tonight (if not, it’s another awesome #ThankGrimmItsFriday! Lol) , to the farmer’s market tomorrow and dinner with my boyfriend Saturday night for our anniversary (:-)), and then Once Upon A Time sunday. I also want to try to fit in going to see Cloud Atlas. This is what happens when you spend the past 2 weekends staying home. It overloads into payday weekend haha.

New Alpha-H products! The Blemish Control Spot Gel, Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Face Mask, and the Age Delay Facial Oil. Expect reviews on these in a few weeks!

A refill of one of my favorites – the Balancing Moisturizer and Gentle Exfoliant. This is incredible for those who suffer from frequent breakouts, pigmentation, or dullness. I miss their old packaging (this is their new) frankly; before I got around 3 ish ounces. Now I’m only getting less than 2 ounces ? I’m happy the formula didn’t change and the new packaging looks nice, but I wish the amount that you get didn’t change by nearly an ounce worth.

The healthy version of deep dish chocolate chip cookie pie. It’s made without flour, sugar, or butter. Instead I used applesauce, garbanzo beans, hazelnut oil, and brown sugar splenda. Thanks ChocolateCoveredKatie! I altered her recipe a bit to suit what I had on hand, but it was delicious anyway!

This is an idea my boyfriend and I came up with in our efforts to max out our daily activity levels. Basically, the left side is where we take turns adding new exercises. For instance, I add the push -ups, later he added 10 crunches, etc. until the end of the day. So, every time we visit the bathroom, we do all the exercises listed plus we add one until the list is full. The right side is what we do before each shower/bath.

I love drinking things out of mason jars. I don’t really know why. I just feel like I’m cool or something. I know, way to be /hipster, but I like the look to it. It’s so shabby chic, if you will. This is my jasmine green tea. Yum! It’s from Twinings. They make lovely teas if you like the bag variety.

My boyfriend’s mom got me on yet another Korean soap. Omg, how they take over your life! So, last night, while we were watching another episode of Big , she made homemade popcorn! Yum! It’s such an awesome snack. Also, the show is pretty good as well. I mean, Gong Yoo is in it and anything he’s in is really well acted and…*ahem* he’s also super hot.

September 11th, 2001.

That statement alone sends chills up and down my spine.

Every time I discuss this with someone, we always end up talking about where we were, what we were doing and how we found out about the attack on our Twin Towers, Flight 93 in Pennsylvania and the attack on the Pentagon.

Whether you were there in NYC, in Pennsylvania, in Washington D.C., or somewhere else far away, I think we all felt the same vibration of terror and loss.

I was 12 when it happened and I can vividly remember where I was when this all happened. I took the bus in the morning and I used to get up early to check the weather on the news, but on this particular morning, there was no weather; there was only the same continuous feed of two airplanes crashing, one after another, straight into the twin towers. I actually thought it was a joke originally. Or maybe they were airing a film instead of the news? So, naturally, I went to get my mom. I did have to go to school so I ended up jogging away to catch the bus, leaving my mom to sit in shock in front of the TV, but there was pretty much no escaping the events of the day.

Every kid on my bus was discussing it, otherwise they didn’t yet know what I was talking about. I remember that in every one of my classes, my teachers all had their TVs on the news. I don’t think we, as young students, truly understood how unprecedented this attack was or how real. That being said, we all somehow realized, on a small level, that things would never be the same and they haven’t been since this happened. That being said, I think that amid the horror and destruction of 9/11, there was also a crazy amount of unrivaled bravery and compassion from ordinary American citizens that continues to inspire me to this very day. Although this event has stayed with us since then because of all who were lost and all the destruction and ugliness, horror and panic we have endured; we will always remember, but we will find our way back as Americans and as compassionate human beings.

That being said, I seriously dislike the name they’ve chosen for this day – “Patriot Day”. It just makes me feel instant disgust because all I think of is the Patriot Act – an act passed after 9/11 happened that has violated our rights as Americans in a serious way and something that always makes me think of this old quote from one of our founders.

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”  –

With that, I do feel a deep sense of sorrow for those lost, a sense of pride and unity for my country, and belief that we will move forward to a better future with the knowledge, understanding and lessons learned from our past. I also think we’re capable of coming up with less predictable names.

I feel like my purpose in life is to connect with people and tell stories. Whether that is through writing, acting, or art, that’s what I truly love. Oh! I also love to cook and travel. Definitely need to be doing those 2 as well 😉

There are way too many books that I love, but my all time favorite series is Harry Potter by JK Rowling and my current favorite series is the Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson.

3. Who or what inspires you most in life?

Stories, especially fantasy and science fiction, inspire me a lot. I have a love for film, books, and anything that can tell a good story.

4. Would you rather donate time or money?

It depends on what it is, but usually time.

5. What are your best qualities? 

My ability to make people laugh, cheer people up, and my gift giving ability. Seriously, I give some epic gifts ;-).

6. If you were an organ in the body which would you be and why? 

Uhhh..no idea.. a heart, maybe? I’m alive, full of energy, and I never stop moving (very twitchy disposition).

7. Why do you blog? 

I blog because I love to tell stories. I love to tell people about the things that interest me, whether beauty, fitness, health or something random that I thought about today. I also love people. People truly fascinate me and I love meeting and learning about all different types of people from all over the world. It’s magical.

8. What is your greatest accomplishment? 

No idea as I’m not dead yet so I can’t properly assess this one…

9. Who is your role model/ hero and why?

My role models are positive people who have an impact on the world and artists whose work inspires me. Examples – James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers, Bill Nye, Christopher Nolan, and many others.

10. If you could be anything or anyone in the world,what would it be and why?

I would be an actor and a writer. I love to act more than anything and I love to write as well; both are great ways to share my stories with others – one with words and one with actions.

Recently, my boyfriend reminded me of an old childhood favorite – Bob Ross.

If you’re unfamiliar, Bob Ross was a famous oil painter who used to host his own TV show, The Joy of Painting, on the PBS network. I used to watch him off and on as a kid, right along with Mr. Rogers who I also watched right along with Wishbone and the Magic School Bus.

So anyway, my boyfriend is an art student and we often watch a lot of different artists online together, especially on YouTube, but what’s funny is we keep going back to Bob Ross’ old PBS segments because they are seriously relaxing, optimistic and encouraging which got me to thinking – I want my childhood optimism back!

Somehow, I feel like we’ve all lost this childhood optimism and curiosity somewhere along the way.

I don’t know, maybe every generation feels this, but the 90’s seemed to me a more optimistic time than the present, though maybe that’s only because we no longer have Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross or perhaps the fact that I am no longer a child.

Who knows?

So then I thought about how inspiring Bob Ross has been to me, not even because of his painting (though I like that too!), but just because of his philosophy and attitude in life. For instance, he had famous lines such as “If you believe, you can do it,” and “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.”

In childhood, this never really made any sense to me. I simply enjoyed watching the show and listening to Mr. Ross’ calming voice, but looking back at the videos now, I am so moved, encouraged and inspired by it. I know a lot of people might look at it and mock it or maybe laugh and think it’s a joke, corny, or stupid, but I find it really touching, inspirational, optimistic, a little nostalgic and, most of all, uplifting.

After growing up and becoming an adult, I’ll be the first to admit I’ve lost a bit of my childish optimism to jaded sentiments, but each time I watch Bob Ross’ soft spoken painting advice, I feel a bit of that happy inner child returning.
