Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm Review

If you’ve been following my blog then you’ll know I am a huge fan of Omorovicza Skincare, an extremely luxurious high end skincare brand that hails all the way from Budapest, Hungary. They are touted as utilizing the magic of natural minerals from Hungarian Moor Mud along with other natural, but usually very exotic ingredients to treat your skin to something special that is relaxing, rejuvenating and also effective.

I had some concerns about the price of the products as they are very expensive and I am not one to purchase if I am not sure how I will like the product, especially if it does cost upwards of $100 per product.

The Sample I Purchased on Ebay:

I was lucky enough to find a small sample size (5mL) of the Thermal Cleansing Balm for $20 on Ebay to try, which has lasted a surprising amount of uses, and then review for you all. 🙂

Application Instructions from Omorovicza:

Rub a small amount of this cleanser between your fingers and apply to the entire face (including eye contour). Massage gently using circular motions then rinse thoroughly using a damp lukewarm mitt or cloth.

Product Claims :

Our award-winning black balm gently but effectively cleanses skin without stripping, to leave it radiant, soft and silky-smooth.

My Experiences:

This is the first cleansing balm I have ever tried and I am really glad that it was because it works great!

It feels sort of strange and vaguely counter-intuitive to clean my face with “mud,” but it really does work! This black balm is a sort of paste, but it has a very silky feel to it. I have used it in a variety of ways: by hand (deposit paste on hands, rub on face and rinse), with my Clarisonic cleansing brush (deposit paste onto brush, use brush as usual and rinse), and also during a facial massage all with varying results.

First, the wash by hand method was fine, though I feel that this is not sufficient enough cleansing for my combination skin. I find that I need to either double cleanse (clean face 2X) or really massage the cleanser in.

This balm, therefore, worked better for me when used with my clarisonic or as a weekly or twice weekly facial massage. It really does feel more like I am moisturizing my face when I apply this balm, as opposed to the normal cleansing feeling, which can feel either stripped, dry, or normal depending on the cleanser. This balm leaves my skin with a completely new feeling after I use it. It feels like I don’t need a moisturizer at all, actually, which really amazes me. I am someone with typically oily skin during the summertime and this doesn’t by any means feel oily. It just feels fresh, moisturized and clean.

Who It’s For:

The Omorovicza site says this balm is suitable for all skin types and I really couldn’t agree more. It has great moisturizing properties while still being a pretty great cleanser. It’s surprising that this cleansing mud isn’t drying, but it isn’t at all. In fact, it feels much the opposite. I really think anyone can use this, even those with sensitive or acne-prone skin types may benefit. I think this would be especially beneficial to those with very dry skin and that, in summertime, it may be too much for someone with very oily skin. Otherwise, if those with oily skin use it, I think they could forgo moisturizer in the day time and just opt for sunscreen alone.

Best Uses:

I really enjoyed using this during my twice weekly facial massage. As someone who is on a budget, I really wanted to use this sparingly, even though it is amazing to use and works well. When used during my facial massage, it really gave me the “Spa treatment” feeling and the nice, yet subtle scent really relaxed me. You could also leave it on for 5-10 minutes for a mask type effect if you want to really let the minerals sink in. Add to that its cleansing and moisturizing abilities and I find it a nice heavenly treatment for my skin. Otherwise, if you have the cash to spare, use it daily. It’s really amazing!

Final Thoughts:

My final thoughts on Omorovicza’s Thermal Cleansing Balm are that it works very well, can be safely used on most to all skin types (except perhaps oily types in hot climates), and feels great on skin. I really think that this cleansing balm over time can improve your skin’s texture and maybe even shrink pores given that it clears out pores so well. Overall, I think that I may just splurge on this cleansing balm. It is made with mostly natural ingredients and shows results with consistent use after 2 weeks. Although it is really expensive, it seems to be one of the few that really lives up the hype and, for that, I am very impressed!

Where to Find:

You can purchase Omorovicza’s Thermal Cleansing Balm on their site – here. Otherwise, you can find it at Sephora, Blissworld,  BeautyBar, NeimanMarcus, or Amazon. If you are interested in trying samples, Omorovicza carries an Essentials Kit that has small travel size items you can try, otherwise Ebay is the only place likely to carry small sizes of the cleansing balm, but not anything else.
