50ml

If you’ve been following a long, you’ll know about my love for the New Zealand beauty brand, Living Nature. If you’ve tried them yourself, you’ll know exactly why I love them so much because, not only are the ingredients upheld to the highest standards, but the products themselves are also quite effective in doing what they claim to.

This past December, I was lucky enough to receive this Nourishing Night Cream along with their Nourishing Hand & Body Cream
( see that review – here ) and Vitalising Cleanser ( see that review – here ) and have been testing it out since then ( for almost 2 months ). It has a similar texture to their Vitalising Cleanser, though obviously without being a cleanser. The cream is super hydrating and nourishing without feeling heavy or greasy at all. There’s no reside left behind on your skin as it totally absorbs within 5 minutes. I love the smell which is pleasant, yet not overwhelming. It carries the same scent that seem to be signature of most Living Nature products and which I’ve come to identify many of their products with which I really like. Their products certainly work synergistically, but will also be just as well when used with other brands. I love that this cream is hydrates so well without being overly greasy or leaving an oily residue behind because I have oily to combination skin so sometimes that kind of texture in a cream will make my skin breakout. Thankfully, this one is super gentle and effective. It hasn’t done much by way of wrinkles or maybe I just don’t have enough for it to show the difference notably, but it certainly helps heal broken capillaries around the eyes and nose and hydrates really well so it effectively calms redness, inflammation and dullness all in one go. The ingredients are effective, yet natural at the highest standard, and they really work to improve the skin noticeably. I highly recommend this for anyone who combats dryness, dullness, irritation, redness, inflammation, fine lines, and broken capillaries or scarring as I think these are the areas it’s been most effective in improving.

Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser Review

Over the winter break, I was sent some Living Nature products for review, including this lovely Nourishing Hand and Body Cream. I didn’t really think much of it, but after I ran out of the body lotion I was using in December, I quickly began using this one daily and I’ve really loved it!

It’s formulation includes various plant oils including macadamia and avocado as well as active manuka honey to lock moisture into the skin and nourish it from the inside out. What I really love about this lotion is that it’s super hydrating without being greasy or oily. I love using body oils and more intensive body treatments during the night, but this is the perfect thing to use during the day. It soaks into the skin immediately and so there’s no waiting around for everything to dry before getting dressed. The scent is really pleasant, but not overwhelming or too strong, just refreshing. I actually ran out of face moisturizer for a few days and was so desperate for hydration that I did (GASP!) use this once or twice on my face and ‘lo and behold – no breakouts! That being said, it might be a bit too hydrating in summer for oily to combination skin types, but dry skin types might like this as an all around useful cream and men may enjoy it for it’s multi-function as well, though the scent isn’t particularly masculine. I highly recommend this cream to anyone and everyone who needs hydration and balance for their skin as it will hydrate you, quite literally, all over.

Living Nature Skincare Essentials Kit Review

Living Nature Liquid Foundation Review

If you’ve been following for awhile, you’ll know all about my love for Living Nature products. I had first done a review on their Skin Essentials Kit which you can see here, if you care to, and loved their Vitalising Cleanser as much as the Summer as I have done now using it again in Winter time. This time, with a slightly larger bottle, I’ve been using the lovely Vitalising Cleanser for over a month and a half and really loving it all the more!

As with all Living Nature products, the Vitalising Cleanser is made with all natural, skin nourishing, and exotic ingredients native to New Zealand (where the brand comes from) and leaves out all the nasties such as parabens, preservatives, and other harmful ingredients. Instead, this cleanser features avocado oil, macadamia oil, active manuka honey, and various plant essential oils and extracts to nourish, calm and cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural oils.

It is recommended for normal to dry skin, but I think if you have combination skin, it may do you some good, especially in the winter, as this cleanser has really helped keep the chapped redness at bay for me. Especially in those typical spots where dry, chapped skin tends to show up like around the nose, this cleanser works wonders. Aside from it’s ability to calm and moisturize, it is great at cleansing the skin without that tight, dry feeling and brilliantly removes makeup without irritating. I can massage this right over my eyes, lips and entire face to remove my makeup and it does a great job at getting rid of every bit of it. If I really want a more intense clean, I find that using this cleanser with a clarisonic or a muslin cloth ( remove cleanser with cloth in warm to hand hot water ) really helps the benefits of this cleanser to be absorbed by the skin and helps the skin feel and look smoother and softer!

I highly recommend this cleanser as a perfect staple for those who deal with dryness and/or irritation and redness either during the Winter or at any time. It is just the thing to bring skin back to a calm, revitalized state.

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil
Dry winter skin can really suck, especially when it’s coupled with irritation, redness, and flakiness, which is most of the time if not all. To keep my skin looking plump, hydrated and calm, I’ve taken to drawing up warm baths a few times a week and using this incredibly soothing bath oil by Max Green Alchemy – the Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil.

I’ve written a bit about Max Green Alchemy as I really love many, if not all, of their products. They are brilliant and made with organic, cruelty free, and wild crafted plant ingredients which seek to heal the skin from inside out and pretty much succeed in that effort, if you ask me. So, after reviewing this bath oil for about a month, it’s not really a surprise that I’d love this one too!

The scent of this bath oil is AMAZING and it really does soothe irritated and/or dry skin. The scent of it is exactly the same as their Skin Rescue Cream which I reviewed awhile back ( you can see that review – here ) and works just as well at calming skin inflammation as the cream, except without the added hydration you get from the cream. I get extremely dry skin come winter time and that dryness can easily turn into irritated, chapped skin which is not just horrible to look at, it can also be painful. This bath oil has helped me avoid that situation altogether and I am SO thankful!

Aside from being extremely effective at calming and hydrating skin, this bath oil is seriously relaxing. It smells incredible and the oil itself actually dissolves into the water rather than sitting on top of it like most oils do so it really envelops your skin in a cocoon of hydrating oil-infused bath water.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about this product ( and Max Green Alchemy products, in general ) is that fact that not only is this product effective, luxurious, and pleasant to use, but it also has an excellent ethical foundation to stand on. The ingredients are great, natural, cruelty free and the formulation leaves out typical nasties which can cause environmental or bodily harm so it’s really a product I can stand behind and I love that.

More Reasons to Love this Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil:

•” Pure organic botanic and essential oils calm, soothe and moisturize skin
• Supports the treatment of psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema
• Unique formula blends with bath water to infuse into skin
• Won’t leave nasty oil residue on the tub
• Steroid-free, paraben-free, petrochemical-free, GMO-free, lanolin-free, polysorbate-free, cruelty-free
• Enchanting non-medicinal aroma of organic chamomile and neroli
• Contains many certified organic ingredients
• 100% plant origin”

The Answer To All Skin Irritation and Inflammation: Skin Rescue Cream

Happy Friday Lovelies!

Today’s post focuses on my top picks for facial masks. This is one area which was a bit of a no brainer for me because I have a clear set of masks that just do the trick for my trouble at any given moment and these are it. Highly recommend them, definitely read my original review(s) for those interested, and I hope it helps keep your skin in great shape in 2013!

First on the list is the Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Face Mask. This face mask is incredible for TONS of skin issues including but not limited to acne, dullness, fine lines, dry skin, scarring, and pigmentation (brown spots). I don’t recommend using this anywhere near the eyes so make sure there is a wide berth from your eyes and the face mask as the skin on your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face and is more likely to suffer from irritation. This mask is seriously potent so I don’t recommend this for sensitive skin as it has a very noticeable tingle to it! If your skin can handle it, it is well worth the temporary discomfort, though, because it feels a bit like a mini peel in that your skin feels instantly softer, clearer, cleaner and brighter after using this face mask. Like many of the Alpha-H products, this utilizes the magic that is glycolic acid at a substantial 15% and is used for exfoliating dead skin cells and encouraging cell turnover while  manuka honey, lavender and vitamin E which work to protect, hydrate and calm fresh cells.

I highly recommend this one for those with trouble skin or those battling dullness, pigmentation or scarring. Although it’s a bit pricey, it’s well worth it, in my opinion!

You can check out my original post on this face mask here.

Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask

Next on the list is the Wei Beauty Purify Chi Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask. This mask is fantastic for those with clogged pores, acne, dry skin, and oily skin. It does wonders for me in hot weather when I’ve been oilier than usual and have a few spots. It definitely has a bit of that tingling sensation, though not nearly as intense as the Alpha-H one. Also, the mask itself is formulated with many natural botanical extracts including Golden Root, Chrysanthemum, and Reishi Mushroom to brighten, purify and de-clog pores. Als, these little pots of face mask will last for about 2-3 face masks each so it does last quite a long time, even if you like to layer it on. I love that applying this mask feels like your very own mini day spa and it works at a level of intensity that most skin types can handle and that is much less intense than the Alpha-H. I don’t know that I’d recommend it for sensitive skin types; if I were you, I’d try to see if you can get your hands on a sample and do a patch test first. You can see my original post on this mask here.

dairyface

This is probably one of the more unique natural beauty brands I’ve reviewed this past year and with good reason! Dairyface use totally fresh ingredients to keep your face, body and everything else in tip top shape! Their products are all made with a natural base of yogurt cultured from milk produced by grass-fed cows in order to offer your skin an optimal level of omega 3’s, probiotics, prebiotics, and other vitamins. This base in then blended with various herbs to treat different skin issues including redness, irritation, acne, dryness, clogged pores, and dull skin. I love how gentle, yet effective these products are as face masks! Plus, since they have to be refrigerated, they offer instant relief to skin suffering from irritation, redness or dryness. The lactic acid in the milk gently exfoliates skin while also calming it with herbs and using the proteins in the milk to plump and hydrate cells. I think this type of product is perfect for any and all skin types (do a patch test first if you’re unsure!) and one that anyone can definitely benefit from. I have also used these products as a body mask and a hair mask which really softened and hydrated both my hair and body. My only recommendation is be sure to use another body wash and shampoo after these to rinse Dairyface full out otherwise you’ll smell later and have dried milk around on your skin and hair! suticleanseorganicbalm

This last one is one of my favorite all around multi-use beauty products of 2012. It is just such a seriously fantastic product that does so many things and would work for nearly any skin type, including sensitive and acne prone types. It is first and foremost an organically certified cleanse balm which includes many hydrating oils and valuable essential oils which work to cleanse, calm, rejuvenate and moisturize the skin all at once. Since it is also quite hydrating, it can work as a cleanser & moisturizer in one and since it comes with a natural muslin cloth, you can actually get mild exfoliation when you use it to remove the cleansing balm. Aside from that, this balm also works as a face mask and definitely helps to hydrate dry skin. When my skin gets that ugly, tight and dry feeling, I just literally pop a thin layer of this on and my skin instantly feels fuller, smoother, softer and yes, more hydrated. I love this cleansing balm for everything and IT WORKS . Try it, you won’t regret it. To see my original post on this cleanse balm, check here.

Stay tuned for a few more of these “Best of Beauty 2012” posts as I’ll be doing a few more for body and nails.

That’s all for My Favorite Face Masks of 2012 – What’s Yours?

Let me know in the comments!

Have a Great Weekend!

Bestcleansers2012_StorybookApothecary.Com

I’m so thrilled to begin a new series of posts today for the next week or so on all my top picks in beauty – skincare, makeup, hair, nails, tools, and body care products for the year 2012!

I’ve done a ton of reviews this year and sorted through the crap to bring you all the best products with the most effective, natural ingredients in their formulations so I hope you enjoy this series and leave your thoughts in the comments along the way!

Today’s post is focusing on the best facial cleansers of 2012 and if you’ve been following along for any measure of time, you won’t be surprised at my picks which I’ve spoke about again and again and again because they are my go-to cleansers.

First in the list is Antonia Burrell’s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil which is fantastic for any skin type, but will do especially well for those suffering from congestion, dullness, acne breakouts, skin that feels both oily and dry, and just generally imbalanced skin. That is not to say that other skin types won’t benefit, though, because this cleansing oil is really lovely and includes lots of potent plant extracts and oils which work to heal the skin from the inside out. It truly works and you will see incredible improvements in your skin in very little time, especially if you’re battling skin issues. To see my original review on this cleansing oil, check here.

Second in the list is Suti Skincare’s CLEANSE Organic Balm which I have raved and raved about. This has certainly been another of my go to cleansers for when my skin is out of balance, especially when it just feels drier than usual or tighter than usual or if it’s feeling red and inflamed. This is the best thing to calm skin down! I really love it as a massage balm to cleanse skin, especially as an all-in-one cleanser + makeup remover because not only does it get the job done, but it leaves my skin super soft, clear and hydrated without a moisturizer. Also, since they include a natural muslin cloth with the cleanse balm, you get a bit of gentle exfoliation if you use the cloth to remove the balm and there’s no oily residue (for those who dislike that!). I’ve enjoyed this one both in Summer and Winter months with great success. I think those with sensitive, dry, and mature skin will really enjoy this one a lot, but I also think there can be some benefit to those with other skin types as well, especially if you’ve had issues with skin that just seems to be out of sorts. The ingredients in this are amazing, natural AND effective all at once. You can see my original review on this cleanse balm here.

Third on the list is another cleanser that I’ve just talked and talked about over and over again and that is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which is brilliant for oily, acne prone skin types! I think it will work for other skin types as well, though very sensitive and dry skin types may want to tread carefully as this includes a strong amount of acne fighting essential oils which may irritate or dry your skin depending on your skin type. For those who have oily, combination or acne prone skin, though, this one is absolutely amazing! It works a lot like my childhood favorite Noxzema (and smells like it too!) though with a host of natural ingredients instead of harmful ones to clear pores out, balance oil production, calm breakouts and redness, and mildly exfoliate all at the same time. It works much like an old fashioned cleansing creme because you use 1-2 pumps which you massage all over your face including on eyes and lips to remove all traces of makeup and dirt. Then, you rinse the cloth in warm to hand hot water and use it to buff the cream off of your face. It really softens the skin, clears out dead skin cells and pores, and helps to combat breakouts. I love this one as a staple, especially in the Summertime. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

Lastly, there is Living Nature’s Vitalising Cleanser which I really love for all skin types as it is gentle enough for even the most sensitive, but will also benefits those with oily, combination or dry skin as well. I think that someone with breakouts may also benefit, but depending on your skin, you may need something more cleansing. This is a great one for if your skin is irritated or just feels dry or dull as it’s very hydrating to use. It feels a bit like using a very moisturizing lotion on your skin and it smells wonderful all while gently cleansing and nourishing the skin. I think those with dry and sensitive skin will really see a lot of benefit with this one because of the botanical ingredients and hydrating oils in the formulation. Also, if you have any kind of damage on your skin, this one is lovely for healing gently without causing any irritation or being too abrasive. It’s just a lovely, calming, gentle cleanser and it works very well in the Winter especially when your skin needs more hydration and nourishment. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

Today’s giveaway is a big one as there are 3, count them, THREE Full Sized products up for grabs from the much-loved New Zealand beauty brand, Living Nature!

You may remember me reviewing their travel essentials kit and night face oil in the past summer both of which were amazing to use. If not, you can see my original review on some of their products here. The kit included the Vitalising Cleanser which is up for giveaway today and it’s just a brilliant cleanser. Super gentle, extremely softening and great for any skin type, even the most sensitive types. I’ll be doing a review on these 3 in more depth when I have time so stay tuned for that, but so far, they are all incredible! The Nourishing Hand Cream is super hydrating and softening and the bottle is actually quite large – nearly 7 ounces – which is HUGE for a hand cream. I’ve actually been testing it as a body cream as well because it’s so huge. The Nourishing Night Cream is also brilliant thus far – super moisturizing and it is quite thick, but not heavy and absorbs instantly.

After celebrating their 25 years anniversary offering these lovely natural products, they’ve updated their packaging to a “True Colours” range of colors that look super classy, but really stand out as natural, eco and body friendly. Plus, the new packaging is out just in time for the holidays!

Living Nature Foundation

Today’s post features one of my first-ever natural liquid foundation reviews!

I had been obsessing over this foundation for ages and ages until Living Nature contacted me through Twitter, offering to send me one for review (Thank you so much again!), and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I’ve been reviewing this one for over a month now and I’ve loved every minute of it!

(Left side of my hand is with no primer and looks more matter, right side is with the Smooth Affair primer from Jane Iredale – you can see it’s more soft and dewy)

Not only does this foundation give solid medium coverage and a lovely finish, whether matte or dewy, it packs loads of valuable, beneficial ingredients such as manuka oil, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, and grapefruit extract. Plus, it’s certified organic! I love that it doesn’t irritate skin nor clog pores and I don’t have to feel guilty about wearing it because it’s all natural and earth friendly. I’ve had great results with both matte and dewy finishes. To get a matte finish, you simply apply this foundation as is after your moisturizer and to get a dewy velvety finish, use a primer. I’ve used the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Smoothing Primer and Brightener with great results. You can see my review for that – here.

I highly recommend this one as I feel it’s certainly well worth the cost given the benefits your skin will receive through using it, both for it’s anti-aging skin benefits the lovely effects it gives the skin.

Personally, I received Pure Taupe and I’m quite pale with neutral pink and yellow undertones, but they have several different shades for various different skin tone shades.

You can check out their various offered shades – here.

What is your favorite natural foundation?

It’s crazy how fast October has come and gone!

I’m shocked it’s already November, actually, but alas.

So, with the end of another month, it’s time again for monthly favorites!

  1.  Living Nature Radiance Night Oil. I’ve been a fan of this one for awhile, but I haven’t really appreciated it fully until now because the weather’s finally changed and I actually need the extra nourishment. This is a lovely facial oil for night skincare. You can see my original review on it – here
  2. Jane Iredale Zap&Hide Blemish Concealer. I actually just received this one for review and I normally wouldn’t jump the gun like this, but I’m shocked I actually like this! One end is an acne treatment balm while the other is a concealer. Review for this one coming soon!
  3. Living Nature Foundation. Although the coverage isn’t full really, I do like the light to medium coverage of this foundation. I love the ingredients in it that work to improve your skin while you’re wearing it and it has a lovely finish when used with primer! Review coming soon!
  4. Ambrosia Foods Olive Body Oil. I mentioned this body oil earlier in the week when I spoke about oil cleansing for the body. Again, I know it must sound strange, but it actually does work and this has been amazingly cleansing and softening for my skin. Check out the post on it – here.
  5. Alpha-H Balancing Moisturizer and Gentle Exfoliant. This has been a favorite for awhile now and I’d actually run out of it, but I just got some more recently and I’ve been loving it more than ever! It’s perfect for breakouts, dullness, hyper-pigmentation, scarring, oiliness, dry skin, etc. It’s my favorite moisturizer for day and night at the moment. I love love love it. You can see the original review for it – here.
  6. Pai Echium BioRejuvenate Eye Cream. This eye cream is slowly, but surely becoming my favorite eye cream. I’ve been using it for a few months now and I love it, especially now that my eyes actually need the extra hydration right now. It’s super light, fast-absorbing and it really does seem to have an effect on fine lines! Check out my original review on this – here.

What are your beauty favorites for October?

Happy Friday Everyone!

I’m back again with my favorites for winter, but this time it’s for beauty, and I’m featuring another one of my favorite blogger’s picks as well!

I hope you enjoy!

[Please Note – Click the product name links for full reviews]

Suvana Honey and Paw Paw Balm

This is an amazing balm for healing, but I love it for healing and hydrating chapped lips! Organic and filled with top notch ingredients, this one is a must-have for me when the weather turns windy and cold.

Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm

love this cleansing balm! I am pretty sure it’s my favorite one…ever. It’s very hydrating, but it doesn’t leave any oily feeling onces rinsed off and dried. Your skin will simply feel renewed, hydrated and soft. Something to keep in mind with this one is that you’ll get more out of it if you massage it into your face for about a minute or so before rinsing.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold

I recently discovered this one, but my love for Alpha-H has been plastered across this blog since I discovered them a few months ago! They seriously are amazing and super effective! This product is no different. It applies like a toner. You use a cotton pad to apply and leave on overnight. You only use it once every other day, but when you do, you use it alone. Using other products with it will diminish it’s effectiveness so if you can’t resist, try to apply it right before bed so you can just go to sleep right away. It’s totally worth it because your skin will look brighter, clearer and more even toned over time when you use this consistently.

And Now…

Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm

Suti Cleanse Balm (recommended by Tianna) is perfect when you have sensitive skin as its very gentle and nourishing, not to mention how lovely the smell is.

Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner

Klairs Toner is a winner for me due to the fact that it has this cooling effect and makes your skin feel refreshed without drying it out.

Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum

Now this is a one of a kind serum, since it looks like water with much thicker consistency and it’s not greasy. It’s also very moisturising for a serum so it’s a big plus since sometimes I use it on its own.
