May Lindstrom – The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I recently review May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil and really have loved it so much I’m likely to purchase it once I run out of it because it’s so lovely. Aside from it’s naturally nourishing ingredients, it includes golden mica in the formula which lends a golden glow to my skin whenever I apply it. I really love the mini faux glow it gives my skin because I don’t have to sit 5 hours waiting for it to develop like I would with a self tanner. Granted, I don’t get a deep tan with this, but it’s a nice and simple way to get glowing Summer type skin without putting too much effort in and the ingredients in this all over Liquid Sunshine Oil looks great on my face and body.

I really enjoy wearing it when I don’t feel like wearing any makeup, but still want to look somewhat put together because it gives my skin a golden glow and dewy healthy look that allows my skin to shine through and look beautiful while doing it.  You still need a sunscreen when you go out as this doesn’t include SPF other than what’s naturally in plant oils ( no higher than SPF 5, if that ) , but it looks great by itself on makeup free days or beach days for that added golden glow on any skin tone or type.

You can see my original review on The Good Stuff Radiance Oil – here.

You can purchase it from May Lindstrom – here.

First Aid Beauty - Ultra Repair Cream

Most of the time lately, I’ve been doing product reviews from items that companies send me and while that’s amazing and just as nice, it’s also fun to find my own products to try out while shopping and then review those as well.

This is one such product. I purchased it on a recent trip I took to Sephora when I picked up a brush replacement head for my Clarisonic. I actually bought it in the 2 Oz. tube, but I’ll be picking up the largest size I can find ( maybe on their site directly ) as soon as possible because it is AMAZING.

First off, the Ultra Repair Cream is meant to hydrate, heal and provide relief to those suffering from irritation of any kind. They market it toward those with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, keratosis pilaris, or anyone who suffer from itchy, dry skin, but I really think anyone could benefit from it. Personally, I think everyone should just have this cream sitting around because it’s that awesome, but hey, that’s just me.

Including a variety of hydrating and soothing ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal and shea butter, this cream is incredibly hydrating and thick without feeling heavy, greasy, or leaving any kind of residue. I love that because if I’m not using body oil, I don’t want my cream to be overly oily really. I just want it to soak in and dissipate once it’s been massaged into the skin and this does just that and more. It’s extremely nourishing without feeling heavy at all, but it really calms down itchiness and dryness in about 24 hours. I apply this before bed and wake up with calmer, more hydrated and healthier looking skin.

Another thing that really makes this cream stand out for me is the fact that I can use it anywhere, including on my face, and not break out. That is a huge deal for me given that most face creams make my blemish prone combination skin flare up. This does not. In fact, when I had some dry patches on my chin, not only did they clear up overnight with this, but it made my skin look healthier and more balanced. Many products often advertise that they can be used anywhere, but few seldom actually can be, you know, without dire consequences. This really can be used anywhere, safely, on any skin type with any skin concerns and I truly believe you’d see benefits from continued use. I have.

Aside from this cream being really affordable, well formulated, and super effective, I love that it’s not something they’ve given a lot of hype. Not to say it doesn’t deserve it, but I feel like I’ve discovered a hidden gem in First Aid Beauty! This was the first product I tried from them and now I’m bound to try out their entire line because this experience was that good.

You can check out the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream – here or at Sephora where I purchased it – here.

The Truth About Oil in Skincare

I’m not huge on fashion trends.

It’s not that I don’t like fashion because I love fashion; I just prefer to do it my way instead of following the trends of the runways or whichever. I feel like some of the trends are super unrealistic for everyday wear and then some only look good on certain body types (usually stick thin) and hence wouldn’t even look right if I tried them. For this reason, I always seem to be on my own strange, yet awesome trend schedule and that’s fine with me because I like having a unique style and I don’t mind standing out a bit.  After all, variety is the spice of life and you should have fun being who you are, whether that means following a trend or not.  Just make sure you have fun and that it’s a style or look that you really like and feel confident in. That’s not to say I never like things that are on trend because I usually like a lot of them. I’m just saying I don’t really care if I follow them to a T one way or the other.

With that, here are some styles I’m excited about this coming Spring & Summer that may or may not be on trend 😉

The Ballerina Look

Pinned Image

Uploaded by Coco Blanchard via Pinterest

I’ve always felt like ballerinas have an ethereal grace about them in the way they can control their bodies, but also in the outfits they wear. From tutus to leotards to less conventional styles, there’s just something really classic and beautiful about mixing classic ballet pointe shoes with anything, really.

Chloé Ballerina Flats - Masha Dancer

Chloé Ballerina Flats – Masha Dancer

Take these ballerina flats by Chloé. They’re super fashionable and wearable for us who aren’t actual ballerinas, but they still have that awesome look to them. It reminds me of when I was in high school – I had these black ballerina flats that I’d gotten at Nordstroms. I don’t even remember who made them at this point, but they had ribbon lacing all the way up the ankle and they made me feel so light footed and lovely all the time. *Sigh* Those are some shoes I literally wore into the ground until my mom threw them out because they were falling apart so badly.

Brightly Colored Clothing & Accessories

I’m really loving bright Springy colors at the moment. I know that’s pretty on trend which is cool!

I actually first spotted this awesome Cambridge Satchel over on Minnie Mélange, only I prefer it in the coral color as opposed to the cool green color she picked up.

TFNC Swing Dress in Jewelled Crochet – ASOS

I’m loving really flowy material for Spring and I always love lace type tops and dresses, but I’d love this dress even more with a brightly colored pink skinny belt or something to make it a bit more bright.

SURRENDER BOW PLATFORMS – TopShop

Brightly colored platforms are a fantastic way to add color to otherwise basic looking outfits that include a lot of black, beige or white and I really love these bow platforms! They also come in a funky pink color as well.

Braids

I’ve always loved braids, but with this season and the amount of never ending ways people have recently come out with just astounds and enthralls me. From fishtails to milkmaid style braids, I just find them all so lovely and there are tons of fantastic blogger tutorials online to learn how to do them all!

Crisp Spring Nail Designs

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know how nail inferior I am, but ever since I’ve joined Pinterest and seen how amazing some of these nail designs are, I can’t help but get inspired to try some of them myself.

From salt manicures to these incredible jeweled ones, chevron designs, and other variations of the french manicure, it looks so fun and creative! I must admit that since starting this blog and discovering nail art, I have become a bit more ambitious when it comes to painting my nails and doing designs on them. Not saying I can do any of it or do any of it well, but I can try!

Colored Mascaras

I’ve been some kind of obsessed with colored mascaras for the better part of 3 months now, especially the copper hued Macao from ILIA Beauty that I recently spotted at Beauty Habit {see it below}. This one from Nvey Eco also looks promising and comes in black, brown AND blue!  There are also some pretty amazing color options from Sephora and Make Up Forever as well.

A Natural Glow

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I’m not a huge fan of self tanner most days. When it looks awesome it looks really great, but for everyday looks, I just can’t be bothered to keep applying it without getting sloppy so I prefer a body oil or lotion with a bit of shimmer in it and May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil is perfect for that, especially in the Spring and Summer when it’s fun to have that slightly bronzed golden look! It smells heavenly { like chocolate! } and makes skin look naturally glowy and golden because it hydrates really well and includes shimmery mica in the formula. It’s definitely a holy grail body product for me as far as packaging, natural formula, and overall effect on the skin both superficially and beauty benefit wise. You can see my full review for it – here. If you absolutely prefer self tanner, a really great one is the one by TanOrganic and you can see my review for that – here.

Nudes, Pinks, & Nudey Pinks!

Even when it’s not Spring, I love nude and pink colored pieces because they just go with absolutely everything and they look super feminine and romantic which I really love, given my period film obsession. It’s just the ultimate chic, womanly look in my mind, I suppose.

Neons

Neon Yellow Power Play Blazer – Nasty Gal

Normally I really hate neon, but for some reason lately, I am loving neon yellow, blue, pink and some shades of green as long as they’re paired with grey, black, or white. It just goes, am I right?

Wedge Sneakers

Hilight Wedge Sneaker – Black – Nasty Gal

In spite of the fact that my boyfriend thinks I’m an absolute lunatic for loving them, I really love this whole platform/ wedge sneaker trend! Ironically enough, I had some platform sneakers way back in the day when I was like 10-11. I’m not sure where I got them, but I remember I thought I was so cool because the Spice Girls wore platform everything and I finally had my own! Shortly after, my little sister hijacked them so she could look taller and I’ve no idea what happened to them now, but just the idea that I could get that Spice Girl style back gets my heart pumping! Anyone else relate to this? No?

Swimwear

Image 4 of ASOS Caged Bow Back Swimsuit

Caged Bow Back Swimsuit – ASOS

The last thing I’m really excited for is swimwear because I feel like the swimsuits that have come out lately have been edgier and edgier and the cuts all look really fun and unique. The one above is one such style. Doesn’t it look cool?! The pieces tie in the back so it looks all bandage-esque. You know it’s a good day when one piece swimwear is looking pretty awesome as opposed to mom-like.

Dancing Mesh 2 Piece Suit – ECO Swimwear – Maaji Swimwear

I’ve actually never seen anything like the bathing suit above where the top is all loose fitting on top. It looks so comfortable and lounge-worthy which I really like about it. I think a lot of girls, especially plus ones want to wear these type of 2 piece suits, but without them hugging their body in an unflattering way. I love that this one is loose fitting because it can be flattering for many different body types.

Beach Bunny Swimwear – Time is Love Bikini – Orchid Boutique

This is another great style that’s really unique. It’s not as diverse as the others, but I really love the bead work and it’s perfect for those who get really tan in the summer because the color looks great against tan skin tones.

Malai Swimwear EXCLUSIVE – Gates of Chic One Piece Suit

I’m really happy that one piece bathing suits are getting less and less boring! This one has such a cool design on the back and I like having a nice one piece around for swimming as 2 piece suits just fall off when you’re trying to do laps. I’m just saying – a girl’s got to be practical!

Block Party Bikini – Nasty Gal

This last suit is a big trend for the spring and that’s color blocking. I don’t actually much like the color block trend in clothing as I think it looks a bit too 1985 for comfort, but I really like it here on this suit. It just works!

Happy Thursday!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic day!

I’m so excited to share this incredible hair care line with you today! It was sent to me for review from their salon in London, UK, and I’ve been loving it since it arrived really.

It is the Gielly Green Luxury Natural Hair Care and they’ve sent me their Repair Shampoo and Repair Mask for review. I’ve been using both for a few weeks regularly now and I’m super excited because this line is just amazing!

Repair Shampoo and Complementary Mask image

Repair Shampoo + Complementary Mask

First off, the shampoo and repair mask both smell incredible!

Not only do they both have this amazing cocoa vanilla type scent to them, which I love, but they also work really well to cleanse and condition the hair without stripping it of valuable natural oils. Instead, their formulas include a variety of natural plant oils and butters to repair damage, strengthen and restore elasticity, and add hydration and shine. The Repair Shampoo that I received really lathers quite nicely and cleanses the hair well without feeling drying at all.  My only complaint is that it doesn’t detangle much, but the repair mask definitely does the rest of the work really well anyway so that’s just nit-picking at this point.

Repair Mask image

Gielly Green Repair Mask

The Repair Mask is mud based, but also includes a variety of natural oils to refine and soften hair as well as  improve shine, elasticity and, of course, repair damage done. I really like the creaminess of this conditioner. It looks like custard in the jar and smells like dessert as well, but don’t eat it! It conditions, softens and detangles locks really nicely and it’s much much easier to comb through once I’m done showering.

Over these past few weeks, this set from Gielly Green has made my hair much more manageable, softer, shinier (though not oilier, thankfully), added volume, and a lot less dead looking. The winter and too much hair coloring really did a number on my hair and this has made my hair look much more healthy and full of life. I also love that the products are all naturally formulated, sulfate free and include beneficial plant oils and butters for optimal hydration and repair through the use of natural ingredients. I definitely plan on purchasing this set once I run out of the samples that Gielly Green sent me and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has damaged or frequently tangled hair, especially if it’s long, because this does the trick!

Kanti Organics Body Oil Review

Blogger Link Love Friday #4

Kanti Organics Body Oil has the right balance of natural moisture for the rejuvenation of your skin.

Kanti Organics Body Oil

One of the great things about being a smaller beauty blogger such as myself is that I get to review more small business beauty brands and, often times, find out that I can get a great product for much less than higher end designer brands would offer it for.

Kanti Organics is one such small, but nonetheless awesome beauty brand!

They offer a small range of natural and organic skincare products for face, body and even babies. Their Restoring Body Oil is the second product I’ve tried from their lovely range of products and it’s been just as lovely as the first! I had first tried their Rejuvenating Facial Serum which I highly recommend. Both smell similar and AMAZING as well as being effective in hydrating, softening, and brightening skin.

The scent of this body oil is similar, as I said, to their Rejuvenating Facial Serum, but it’s a bit more subtle. It includes tons of natural and organic plant oils such as grape seed, coconut, apricot, and olive as well as other healing essential oils which give this oil it’s relaxing, intoxicating scent. It’s super hydrating and softening and works well straight out of the shower when skin is still damp. It also works fantastic when you add a few pumps to your bath to soften and moisturize skin, especially if you’re the type of person who hates applying and massaging in body oil – you will get similar benefits from the oil using it this way.

Really, I can’t recommend this enough as a body oil for anyone and everyone. It’s really lovely in scent without being overpowering so you can wear it with perfume or body spray and it’s super effective at hydrating and softening skin without too much fuss. It’s a solid body oil at a very affordable price so do check it out!

Hot Cleansing Oil

I’ve been meaning to review this cleansing oil for some time as I’ve had it and been testing it in various ways, on and off, since December. I know, I know, that’s a crazy long time, but I’ve just had so much stuff to review, it’s been overwhelming to test everything properly and review them in good time so I hope you’ll forgive me 😛

Anyway, this cleansing oil was sent to me for review from the lovely people over at Gold Sakura, a beauty shop which exclusively offers natural Japanese beauty products, and I was thrilled because I love Asian beauty products! If you haven’t experienced Asian beauty products yet, you really ought to. This particular cleansing oil is the Moist Hinoki Deitanseki Hot Cleansing Oil which is a naturally formulated cleanser from Japan that utilizes honey, yogurt filtrate, castor oil and Japanese cypress oil also known in Japanese as Hinoki.

This cleansing oil is perfect for all skin types, especially acne prone, because it really heats up when you use it and clears out pores, unlike some cleansing oils which can feel leave a heavy oily residue, this one feels heavy while you cleanse your skin, but it deep cleans and rinses completely off so there’s no film left on the skin when you’re done and your skin still gets completely clean. Another thing I really love about this cleansing oil is the hinoki ( Japanese cypress oil ) in it because it makes the oil feel almost cooling to the skin while you massage it in and leaves the skin feeling really fresh and clean like a more stripping cleanser would, only without the stripping or the harsh ingredients.

This is great for removing makeup and its super gentle, yet effective. I highly recommend this for those struggling with acne who also battle dryness because this hydrates without irritating or clogging pores. All other skin types could probably benefit from using this as well, though I think it’d be most beneficial for dry acne prone skin types. The cooling, refreshing effect of it really does feel like a Japanese hot spring or something and I’ve quite enjoyed trying it out!

A Closer Look At My Favorite Taiwanese Beauty Brand – Naruko

Get Naturally Clear Skin with Naruko’s Apple Seed & Tranexamic Acid Line

I’ve recently been trying out this deep conditioning hair mask from Acure Organics as my hair has felt seriously damaged these days and I’ve been needing conditioners almost every time I shower given how tangled it becomes. This conditioning hair mask smells really pleasantly of minty freshness without being overpowering. The scent seems more like a subtle afterthought than anything so it can be used with other products without scents clashing much.

To apply this, you simply take a small amount (depending on hair length; mine is long and I use about 1-2 quarter sizes) and massage it into your hair, concentrating on the ends. Then, relax and let it do it’s thing for 5 minutes, comb through and rinse. The formula includes argan oil and CoQ10 for their nourishing properties as well as argan stem cells which are said to penetrate the follicle while locking in color and hydration.

I really enjoy the scent of this conditioner and it does add a fair amount of shine and volume to my hair. The only thing is that my hair was still pretty tangled after using this, though less so than before, and I actually find the name a bit confusing ( …Root Repair) because it sounds like you’re meant to use it on the roots of hair even though it’s meant to be used on your ends. Other than that, I really enjoyed using this hair mask. It works fairly well and it doesn’t leave a residue or film behind on the hair which I like a lot. I just wished it had been a bit more detangling than it was, but if you’re more concerned with volume and shine, this is a really natural and effective hair mask option for those needs.

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic day so far and enjoying the week. I’ve been kind of scatter brained lately and fell off a bit on my early morning workouts, but I’ll jump right back on tomorrow morning with that so, it happens. I’ve been pretty on with my eating, except for this past weekend which was pretty off all weekend. Thank goodness I was able to just maintain my weight instead of gain so I’m grateful for that. I’m kicking it into high gear this week and really buckling down with my diet and fitness plans so I can keep on the right track. So with all that on my mind, I thought I’d better update with my goals for this month while it’s still semi-early in the month, though I’m a bit late in posting.

Here’s Last Month’s Goals & How I Did:

  1. Make More Money AND Save More Money. I actually got a raise in the new year (yay!!) and I am still working on saving a bit. I am on the right track, though, so I just need to stay on it.
  2. Organize My Closet, Room & Bathroom Areas! I haven’t done this AT ALL. It so needs to get done, but I’d really like to purchase some organizers for this project and I haven’t been able to do that yet so when I do, it’s more likely to happen.
  3. Stay Consistent With the Gym & Working Out 5-6 Times Per Week. I’ve been really consistent on going to the gym and working out if I wasn’t able to go so I’m happy about that!
  4. Stay Consistent With Healthy Eating. With my diet, I’ve been really on or just okay and rarely have I been just completely off. This weekend I did slip up a bit, but I was back on track by Sunday so I’m glad I have been okay with that. I’d like to keep on with this and be more consistent with making my lunch for the week.
  5. Lose 10-15 pounds. I actually did lose 8 pounds in the past month or so since January so yay! I know it’s not the 15 pounds I wanted, but it’s a start.
  6. Be A More Romantic Girlfriend. I think I’ve been doing okay at this. We’ve been taking time to go watch films together and hang out a bit, but I would like to plan more things to do on the weekend as well.

My Goals for this Month:

  • Make My Lunches for the Week More Consistently. I have been pretty consistent where healthy eating is concerned, but I admit I’ve been eating out way too much this past week and it’s mostly due to my being too tired or too lazy to prepare my lunches for the week so starting clean this week with my lunches all prepared, I’d really like to keep on with making my lunches each week because it does keep my healthy eating on track.
  • Go to the Gym 5-6 Times Per Week ( 4 Times At 5 AM During Week ). I’ve been really good with this, but I just like a nice reminder. The only thing I really fell off with was my morning workouts. With daylight savings “Spring Forward” with the clock going forward an hour, it’s been tough.
  • Do More Fun & New Things With My Boyfriend. As I said, we’ve been going to see films together and hanging out, but I’d like to plan more things for us to do and I’d like us to go on a mini vacation sometime this Summer or something. Anyone have any ideas to recommend?
  • Organize My Bathroom & Closet. This just NEEDS to get done. I will be picking up the organizing boxes, dividers and shelving sometime this month and it WILL happen.
  • Save Money. It’s still on my list and it will happen soon.
  • Lose 10-15 Pounds. I know it’s ambitious, but I’m keeping this on my list because I really need to motivate myself with weight loss so I’m keeping it on here so it stays on my mind.
  • Get Up At 4 AM Tues-Friday for My Morning Workouts. As I said above, my morning workout has fallen off and I’d like to get back to that so I’ll be going back to my 4AM wake up times this week and going on through this month. I really enjoyed the improved energy and focus I got from getting up earlier and getting my workout done first thing.
  • Spring Clean. This is just a general note to clean out my closet, clean out my bathroom and get rid of junk and clutter that’s been sitting around catching dust.

My Goals for 2013

Hi Loves!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend and enjoying your time off ( if you have it ).

I’ve had a busy week and I’m enjoying getting back on track with my workouts, healthy eating and all that jazz. I had quite a difficult time this past week waking up at my usual 4 AM to work out at the gym for some reason so I took it pretty easy and only worked out 3 times at the gym during the week and once at home doing a bit of strength training (squats, lunges, etc.). I’ll be going all weekend to get my workouts in and make up for the times I missed during the week and try to get back on track with that by Monday.

As for healthy eating, I’ve done pretty well except for a few days this week where I had 2 cheat meals and caved and bought some white bread ( had 1 slice ) and peanut M&Ms (why are they SO delicious?!). Other than that, I’ve been on a good track with eating.

That aside, I’ve received some beauty stuff this week for review and I’ve been doing a lot of reading. I just finished reading the Host by Stephenie Meyer which is surprisingly really good – highly recommend it if you like Sci-fi! Now I’m onto Beautiful Creatures since I recently saw the film (based on the book) and loved it so much I felt the need to read the novel it’s been adapted from. Highly recommend the film Beautiful Creatures, if you haven’t seen it yet, and also Warm Bodies (a Zombie love story?) – both were really entertaining! If you haven’t heard of any of these, I’ll give you quick rundowns below:

Beautiful Creatures: It’s basically about witches, only they refer to themselves as Casters and it takes place in the South USA. Lena Duchannes is the new girl in Gatlin while Ethan Wates has lived there his entire life. Ethan longs to escape from Gatlin when he meets mysterious Lena. Together, they discover much about their ancestors, their history, and the seemingly normal Southern town of Gatlin.

Warm Bodies: Essentially, Warm Bodies is about a boy zombie who falls in love with a human girl. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s really funny and cute!

The Host ( book not film ) : The film looks pretty accurate to the book, but it’s not out yet so I can’t say for sure. The book by itself is really good! The plot is that earth has been overtaken by aliens who are basically parasites because they inhabit our human bodies and erase our minds. Wanderer inhabits Melanie, a young human female, but finds that Melanie is still there in her mind when she does and she can’t get her to go away. It’s such a fascinating story about humanity, the nature of kindness, battle for species’ survival and the goodness of souls universally.

I received this line of Less Is More Organic Hair Care as well which I’m excited to try out soon!  They included Lindengloss Shampoo & Conditioner, Flower Whip Curl and Frizz Lotion & LimeSouffle Styling Cream. Everything smells lovely!

Lastly, I picked up some new running shoes because my Nike shoes were getting a bit worn down and starting to feel off which was making my knees hurt. These are Reebok Realflex Scream 2.0 running shoes and they are SUPER comfortable! I love how they fit my feet like a glove and the cushioning feels like I’m walking on a firm mattress. They’re super supportive of my arches and I can’t wait to run in them! I can do a full review of these, if you like, so let me know if you want one in the comments!

How Was Your Week?
