Pain is Fear Leaving the Body.

You’ve probably seen this original quote all over Pinterest, fitness websites, health websites and other fitness blogs, but I decided yesterday that the quote is wrong. Pain is not weakness leaving the body — it’s fear.

The reason I say this is because I had a weird revelation while running yesterday and that is – I don’t feel as afraid. 

I feel like fitness is such a liberating thing. We fight it as much as we might because it’s much easier to hide ourselves away rather than face the world and say “This is who I am…and proud of it” because doing that might mean judgment, rejection and yes, failure.

But I also realized another really epic thing and that is what we’re capable of when we stop being afraid, anxious and just go for what we want – it’s SO liberating!

I realize now that no matter what, I’d rather face my failures and get back up, face myself head on so I can improve and succeed in the future than stay forever on the ground because trying and failing is better than doing nothing at all and feeling constant anxiety, fear and despair.

So with each stride toward your goals, whether fitness related or not, move towards your better future with the confidence that you’re leaving fear behind you without a backwards glance.

 Today’s post focuses on all the amazing DIY pins I’ve discovered on Pinterest. There really are some awesome things to be discovered on Pinterest – definitely join if you haven’t already! I’m not much for crocheting or sewing or anything that requires a lot of patience (a virtue I was not gifted with) really, but I actually love this bracelet and plan on making one (or several) for myself! It seems pretty easy.

DIY Re-Vamped Flats From makeit-loveit.com via Pinterest

I really love this tutorial for re-vamping flats as I’m someone who tends to scuff up perfectly good flats in a month’s time. Yeah, I’m shoe-abusive and I tend to get bored easily so this is a fun way to change with the trends without going broke.

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m seriously going to pick up some hydrogen peroxide so I can test it out. Basically, you dip a Q-tip into some hydrogen peroxide and polish each tooth before brushing your teeth. Wait 30 minutes with the peroxide on your teeth before brushing regularly. People say there’s a huge difference when you do it for one week straight and it’s certainly cheaper and more eco than Crest white strips, right?

I looove to do DIY facials in the winter for some reason. I don’t know if that’s because I’m in somewhat hibernation and leave my house less or what, but it’s fun and these are pretty easy to make. I’ve done all of these except the bath one and the anti-redness facial. Though, lately, I am getting a lot of redness (I’ve run out of my Suti Cleansing Balm & Moisturizer! 😦 ) due to the weather changes so I may try the anti-redness one soon.

So, today I thought I would do another fashion finds post, inspired by fairy tales of course(!), and this time I’m doing it on Alice in Wonderland. Although she hasn’t really shown up in Once Upon  A Time (the ABC show I’m obsessed with!), I do think this type of post is tons of fun to do so I’m doing whichever characters I feel like doing, whether from the show or not, but I hope you enjoy anyway. After all, Alice is one of the most iconic fairy tale type characters even though she technically isn’t and I absolutely love her so, with that, here are my fashion finds for Alice, both modern and classic!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far and sticking to all of their fitness goals. I think these are super helpful, especially if you’re, like me, the kind of person who likes to mix it up with your workout frequently, you get bored easily and need change in your workout to stay engaged, or you just find new and different workout routines of interest. Okay so definitely check out the link above because it talks about how to pack your meals if you’re very busy, working, etc. The bag above, though, really caught my attention. It’s an earth friendly lunch pouch that has eco friendly gel embedded in the seams of the pouch itself so what you do is freeze the entire bag and then it keeps your lunch, snacks, etc. chilled for up to 10 hrs. Awesome, right?! If you want the bag, her post has Amazon links to a few different kinds of eco lunch bags.

This is one workout I’m seriously considering. With all the amazing shows that have come out, I’ve gone from watching little to no TV to watching a million and one shows and I’ve begun doing crunches and things all through. I’m not that great at push-ups, but ever since I saw the Swedish version of the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and they showed Noomi Rapace doing those insane push up, crunches thing, I’ve wanted to be better at them. I’m just saying…she looked like a total badass.

I love this one! It’s so important to put in the extra effort because, obviously, working out and being consistent isn’t always easy. I’ve lacked serious motivation to stick to Insanity this week so I did it twice so far this week and nearly every other day, I watched some TV, but I did crunches, knee ups, squats and plank while doing so. I feel less guilty that way.

I found this image seriously helpful for reasons why you’re hungry. In the past, I had a lot of issues discerning when I was actually hungry, when I was emotionally eating, when I was thirsty, etc. This is helpful to keep me mindful of my body and mindful of my food intake.

Exactly. You know, a lot of my goals in weight loss are not just about losing weight. It’s about proving to myself that I can do it if I try really hard. If I put in the effort. And it’s about living to your full potential as opposed to half-mast. Because you never know what you can achieve when you’re living life at your best potential self. Seems limitless right?

I posted this photo yesterday on Instagram (I’m @StorybookBeauty :-)) and I thought I would post on it as well because it dawned on me that, although this is something I’ve been doing for years, it may be entirely foreign to a lot of you.

This is how I catalog, keep track of and visualize all of my goals and dreams!

I first got the idea from my mom – she’s a damn wonder woman and the source of nearly every good idea I’ve ever had, even if indirectly, but then I think we all have the same feeling about our women we look up into in our lives, no?

Anyway, so Basically Here is How it Works: 

  1. Purchase a Cork Board & Push Pins Or Some Construction Paper and a Glue Stick. You will need scissors for both of these.
  2. Magazine Cut Outs Or Print Photos From The Net. Simply pick images that will represent your goals. For instance, my goals for this month are eat healthy, whole foods, workout consistently, Find Peace of Mind, Be More Fashionable & Spend Time with Friends & Family more. For eating healthy, I’ve chosen photos of dishes that look healthy, wholesome but also delicious to me! For working out, I’ve posted Nike type ads with motivational statements as well as pictures of people being active. For being more fashionable, I’ve pinned images of styles I like, people I think are fashionable, etc. Just get creative with it and have fun! I have a blast doing this every time; it’s like doing a grade school art project!
  3. Pin or Use a Glue Stick to Collage Your Photos Together. 
  4. Post In a Notebook that you consult daily or Post Up Your Cork Board in a place you Look Every Day to stay focused on them. The Bathroom or Facing Your Bed are both great because you will see it often. This is to keep you mindful of your goals all month. If you put it away and never look at it, it defeats the purpose. Make sure you browse your notebook often or if that’s not something you can remember, the cork board is the easiest way to do things because you can mount it on a wall wherever you spend a lot of time so you can see it frequently.
  5. Refresh Your Photos Each Month or At Least Once Every 3 Months. I like to do this because my goals often change or stay the same, but evolve to a more specific idea and I like my collage to reflect that. Plus, it keeps things fresh. It can get boring or you might start ignoring your board if you see it gathering dust or looking dated. Plus, this is a great way to remember your goals and always keep them in mind if you frequently update the board to reflect your heart’s desire.

I hope you like this idea and try it for yourself! It really does make a difference in my overall focus on my goals, my positivite attitude in life and towards my goals, etc. so I hope it can help you too!

Recently, my boyfriend reminded me of an old childhood favorite – Bob Ross.

If you’re unfamiliar, Bob Ross was a famous oil painter who used to host his own TV show, The Joy of Painting, on the PBS network. I used to watch him off and on as a kid, right along with Mr. Rogers who I also watched right along with Wishbone and the Magic School Bus.

So anyway, my boyfriend is an art student and we often watch a lot of different artists online together, especially on YouTube, but what’s funny is we keep going back to Bob Ross’ old PBS segments because they are seriously relaxing, optimistic and encouraging which got me to thinking – I want my childhood optimism back!

Somehow, I feel like we’ve all lost this childhood optimism and curiosity somewhere along the way.

I don’t know, maybe every generation feels this, but the 90’s seemed to me a more optimistic time than the present, though maybe that’s only because we no longer have Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross or perhaps the fact that I am no longer a child.

Who knows?

So then I thought about how inspiring Bob Ross has been to me, not even because of his painting (though I like that too!), but just because of his philosophy and attitude in life. For instance, he had famous lines such as “If you believe, you can do it,” and “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.”

In childhood, this never really made any sense to me. I simply enjoyed watching the show and listening to Mr. Ross’ calming voice, but looking back at the videos now, I am so moved, encouraged and inspired by it. I know a lot of people might look at it and mock it or maybe laugh and think it’s a joke, corny, or stupid, but I find it really touching, inspirational, optimistic, a little nostalgic and, most of all, uplifting.

After growing up and becoming an adult, I’ll be the first to admit I’ve lost a bit of my childish optimism to jaded sentiments, but each time I watch Bob Ross’ soft spoken painting advice, I feel a bit of that happy inner child returning.

I originally did this post where my fashion finds were inspired by Lisbeth Salander and I’ve had a lot of fun finding pieces this way so I decided to do a series of these with different female characters that I like from books, films, etc. for inspiration.

Katniss is strong, self-sufficient, tough, skilled, resilient, beautiful, and intelligent. She is another one who doesn’t let other people define or control her and she makes her own way. I love that about her. Some of the pieces are inspired by the books and some inspired by the film. I hope you enjoy!
