Aurelia Miracle Skin Cleanser

{ This cleanser was provided to me by Aurelia Skincare for review }

I’m super excited to share the latest face cleanser I’ve been testing out by Aurelia Skincare!

The Miracle Cleanser, as they call it, is definitely one to obsess over!

First off, Aurelia Skincare offer a number of skincare products which all focus on offering natural healing to the skin.

They seek to achieve this by utilizing natural Bio-Organic plant essences and oils in their product formulations as well as their own unique probiotic technology which helps balance stressed skin in order to allow your skin to reap the most benefits from these valuable natural ingredients.

It’s all very high tech and complicated, but the idea is that your skin can be damaged over time by stress, inflammation, and other factors caused by diet, the environment, etc. and which can cause skin issues such as premature aging, acne, and redness and the technology combined with the ingredients in the Aurelia Skincare products seek to correct and heal these issues in order to bring new life to your skin.

Utilizing a number of plant oils and essences including coconut oil, shea butter, chamomile, eucalyptus, rosemary, and bergamot, this super creamy cleanser is very softening, hydrating, and healing. It feels a lot like a cross between using Pond’s cold cream and the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish because it feels super creamy and lotion-like, but it’s quite cleansing and has a similar scent to the Cleanse & Polish.

What I really love about this cleanser is the fact that when I use it with my clarisonic, it leaves my skin super soft, calm and hydrated.

The Liz Earle sometimes made my skin a bit dry, but this does not at all. I also really enjoyed using the muslin cloth they sent with this cleanser as well because it also gives the skin that smooth, soft feel while still gently exfoliating.

It seems like it would be a great way for sensitive skin to exfoliate without causing irritation.

Last of all, I’ve been using this quite regularly and I have experienced very little to no breakouts at all in the entire time which seriously impresses me, especially given that this cleanser is so thick and creamy so I highly recommend this cleanser as one that any skin type can try comfortably.

Check it out on the Aurelia Skincare website – here.

You can also learn more about the cleanser in a video they’ve done on it – here.

I was recently sent this lovely, all natural petroleum jelly alternative balm called Waxelene for review.

It’s a very simple balm moisturizer with a short and simple list of ingredients : Organic Soy Oil, Beeswax, Organic Rosemary Oil, and Natural Vitamin E ( from soy beans ).

I really, really  love this natural alternative to petroleum jelly because it has super healing properties and is very effective, but the formula is uncomplicated and easily pronounced.

This balm reminds me a lot of the Egyptian Magic Skin Cream ( see my review on that – here ), only this has a much more pleasant smell than that one in my opinion. Both are pretty equally effective, though this one is a lot more affordable.

I’ve used this balm all over my face and body, on cuts, scars and any skin irritation or dryness I can find and it has done amazingly well. It has quickly healed cuts, scrapes and burns, leaving no scar behind. It hydrates my skin really nicely and doesn’t break me out. It actually does a nice job of sealing in all my skincare products for overnight repair treatment which I love. It moisturizes dry hands, nails and cuticles. I’ve even used it around my eyes and it doesn’t irritate them at all so if you have a small child, I think this would definitely be gentle enough to use on them as well. This is a solid medicine cabinet must have; I will definitely purchase this when I’ve run out.

Special thanks to Waxelene for making this awesome balm and giving me the opportunity to try it – it’s AWESOME!

You can learn more about and purchase the Waxelene balm – here.

Have you ever tried the Waxelene petroleum jelly alternative?

What are your thoughts about natural alternatives to petroleum jelly?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

It’s the Special Edition Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser from Liz Earle, but this one is in Rose & Lavender! As you may know (if you’ve been on the follow train here at SA), I loveee the original Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser from Liz Earle (See My Review – Here!) and I’m just dying to try this one now I know it exists!

There are a few other cool things about purchasing this cleanser as well – 1. £2 of each sale will go toward the Prince’s Trust, a UK organization dedicated to bettering the lives of young people and assisting them in getting jobs, etc. You can learn more about the “Tomorrow Campaign” here. 2. Since this version uses rose and lavender, it may be especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin types!

Alas, I have disappointing news! They’re only selling it on their UK site! (Finally, something AJ’s Mommie can purchase! ;-)) I’m pretty sad about this news, but hopefully some of you lovelies can benefit!

It retails at £19.75.

Disclaimer: I was NOT given compensation to write this blog post in any way. My opinions, thoughts and experiences with this product are my own.

I get a lot of questions from readers asking me what cleansers would work best for their skin type so I thought I would post a few of my favorites that will work for one or more skin types so there are multiple options to choose from. I tried to keep everything on the affordable side, though some are more pricey. I hope you enjoy!

Original Konjac Sponge; $9

This is a great one for all skin types! It’s super gentle, mildly exfoliating and non-irritating even for those with sensitive skin. You can even get these with different clays in them, if you like, depending on your skin type. Check those out here. This is a great cleansing tool + cleanser in one if you like to keep your routine simple, yet effective. Check out my review on this original sponge here!

Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm; £26.00

This is seriously one of my favorites! I think this could also work for any skin type as well. It’s a bit more on the expensive side of things, but it works incredibly well and is worth the price to me. If you have oily or combination to oily skin, you’ll want to use this with the muslin cloth to get more exfoliation and cleansing action, but if you’re more on the dry or sensitive side of things, you can simply massage this into your skin and rinse with warm water then pat dry. Check out my full review here.

Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser; 24.50

Another new favorite, this one is great for all skin types, though I don’t recommend it to anyone who has a sensitivity to essential oils or to someone with dry skin. This is really cleansing and creamy, but it’s not super nourishing so if you need that extra moisture, it’s better to go with the Suti CLEANSE, the AB Cleansing Oil or LN Vitalising Cleanser (see below). This one works especially well for those with combination to oily or oily skin and is really effective for those with clogged pores or acne. This gentle cleanse + exfoliate combo is great for clearing the skin. Check out my full review on this here.

Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser; $35

This is a really nourishing cleanser! It’s super gentle so it would be great for those with dry skin, sensitive skin or combination skin in the winter. I also find it’s nice to use when my combo to oily skin is looking particularly red or irritated because it helps to calm things down a lot. The scent in this is super subtle and there’s no sulfate or foaming; it actually just feels like a light, easily absorbed lotion only you rinse after. It leaves the skin feeling really soft and hydrated. See my full review here.

Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil; $102

If you’ve been following for awhile, you may know about my love for cleansing oils. If not, well, I love them! They are great for all skin types most of the time and they work so well at balancing the skin out, whether your problem is dryness, oiliness, clogged pores or redness. I love cleansing oils for when my skin is just completely out of whack and off balance. It’s a great way to balance everything out and calm any irritations. Plus, cleansing oils, a lot of the time, are easily absorbed into the skin and help to cleanse the skin without stripping anything from it. Also, they work well as an all-in-one type makeup remover and cleanser. Just be sure to do it 2x! See my full review for this cleansing oil here.

AMPM Wakeup Skin Smooth Washing Powder

NARUKO AMPM Wakeup Skin Smoothing Washing Powder; $14

I love to use washing powders during hot, humid months when my skin is super oily and has a tendency to get congested. This is a great way to gently exfoliate the skin without being harsh while getting a good cleanse in. Plus, this one is only mildly foaming so it’s not as harsh as the OTC drugstore acne cleansers that can do more harm than good with their crap ingredients. This one includes rice powder and other ingredients to gently cleanse, smooth, and brighten the skin. See my full review on this here.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser; $15

This is an old favorite! It’s really great for any skin type, but it works especially well for those with sensitive skin or if you like to use a separate cleanser for makeup removal, this is a nice one. It smells really super fresh (actually true lol) – just like cucumbers. It’s very mild and more milky than foamy so it’s non-stripping to the skin. This is a really nice gel type textured cleanser and is great if you’re someone who doesn’t want to strip the skin of it’s natural oils, but also hates the oily feel of cleansing oils or balms. This one is a nice middle ground that will leave your skin cleansed, but not tight or dry. See my full review on this here.

What’s your favorite go-to cleanser?

Recently, I was sent some small samples of the Malin+Goetz line of skincare and I was pretty excited because they are made here in the USA! If you’re unfamiliar, Malin and Goetz is a basic skincare line that utilized the experience of 2 men working in business and marketing to create an eco friendly line that would work even for the most sensitive skin types.

Ever since the economy meltdown, I am looking for new brands made in the USA for everything – clothes, shoes, food, and, of course, beauty, but it’s difficult what with all the corporation out sourcing to every other country in the world, but our own, to find things that are actually American made. It’s a really shame, in my opinion, because we used to be completely self-sufficient (think 1950’s), but now we are so dependent and I want us to be more self-sufficient. So, anyway, it’s just one more reason for me to get behind this skincare brand 😉

Check Out What I’ve Tested:

grapefruit face cleanser.

Grapefruit Face Cleanser

This cleanser contains .5 % grapefruit extract and loads of amino acids for hydration and skin cell renewal, helping your skin to heal, stay calm, balanced and moisturized.

They also say it’s gentle enough for rosacea prone skin types as well as dry and breakout prone.

Personally, I like this as a gentle basic cleanser. It certainly gets the job done! It’s light, calming, and non-drying. It includes some nice ingredients as well, though I wish they had a more natural formula.

If you’re someone who wants a nice gentle all-in-one makeup removing, skin cleaning type cleanser, this is a nice one to try out.

jojoba face scrub.

Jojoba Face Scrub

A nice and gentle face scrub, I enjoy the jojoba meal in this one because it feels like I’m getting scrubbing action without the irritation. This also includes their “Amino Acid Technology” so it’s meant to help rebuild your skin as well as hydrate. I don’t know how much of that I got as I was only able to use this a few times, but I do enjoy the scrub nonetheless.

spf 15 face moisturizer.

SPF 15 Face Moisturizer

This is a really gentle face sunscreen. If you’re someone who constantly breaks out from typical sunscreen formulas (like me), this may be worth a go. I really like that it’s gentle and light. It’s not heavy or sticky at all, though it does have a faint hint of that typical sunscreen smell which some may or may not mind. I personally like it, though I prefer natural physical sunscreens (think zinc oxide) which don’t give off the scent (it comes from chemical sunscreens like octinoxate and avobenzone). Nonetheless, it offers both UVA and UVB sunscreen protection as well as their “Fatty Acid Absorption Technology” which is said to hydrate, balance and protect from free radical and sun damage all at once. This was my favorite product from them!

vitamin e shaving cream.

Vitamin E Shaving Cream

This is a super nice shaving cream. It doesn’t get super foamy or puffed up or anything, but it’s nice and milky and a little foamy which works well. Enriched with vitamin E and menthol, this is both hydrating and cooling to use so it helps prevent razor burn. It also includes their “Amino Acid Hydration Technology” as well so it works to prevent the ashy dryness usually caused from shaving with bar soap. I really like that it includes vitamin E and their hydration technology because it does seem to prevent razor burn. I was only able to use this once to shave my legs, but it was to really nice effect. I’m not much for buying shaving cream, but I may just try this one out. It’s really nice to use and it does help calm skin after shaving.

Overall, I really like this as an American made skincare brand. It’s really great for people who don’t want anything too complicated, but just want something basic that works well because this does. I do think they could be more natural and green with their formulas, but as far as effectiveness and gentleness goes, Malin+Goetz have got you covered.

Twist Bands Revisited

It’s pretty ironic that BeautyHabit sent me these for review given that I previously posted about how useless they were. I originally received a Twistband head band in my May GG Birchbox and hated it. I thought, wow this looks so cheap, what a ploy for money, waste of cash, etc.  (See that post – here, for proof) And, as painful as it is for me to say this, I was wrong. Really wrong.

Ugh, it’s so not easy to say that, but it’s true!

I think I initially missed the point of what makes these Twistbands so awesome and useful before, but now I think I’m starting to get it. You see, I’ve had a lot of issues lately with getting headaches and pulling my hair unintentionally from hairbands and pulling my hair out so I’ve been using these twistbands a lot because they are really gentle on your hair. They don’t pinch, snag or stress your hair out. The material is super gentle and doesn’t pull or snag my out at all.

I’m so surprised that I actually like these things now. I still don’t know how I feel about paying $10 for  6 of these ($1.40 each approx.), but if you have a sensitive scalp and traditional hair bands aren’t cutting it, this may just be worth it.

Get Glowing, Youthful, and Hydrated Skin with Intrinsic Organics + GIVEAWAY!

So I recently discovered Intrinsic Organics, a natural, organic and handmade line of skincare and body care products. I was sent the following products and I am officially a convert of all three of them, especially the body lotion! The first item I was able to try was the Almond and Oatmeal Sugar Body Scrub. This feels lovely scrub is gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin, but gets some great scrubbing action so that it actually is effective for body exfoliation. It smells just like almonds and oatmeal and sugar (not surprisingly), which I love, because I find it really delicious! There are no oatmeal pieces in the scrub that I could see, even though I expected there to be for some odd reason. Instead, there are sugar granules and pieces and a strong almond scent that I really like. This works really nicely to exfoliate dead skin cells off your body without feeling too abrasive, hydrates the skin and smells lovely. The only drawback of this was that ants seemed to really like it as well so it attracted a decent amount of them all around the jar (though thankfully not inside it!). So, just as a hazard or warning, if you have any hint of a tendency toward ants in the Summer, you may want to hold off on getting this til winter, otherwise, I recommend storing it in the refrigerator when you aren’t using it. The fridge bit does make the scrub even more pleasant!

The second product I was able to try was the Hydrating Bergamot Blend Body Lotion, which is seriously one of the best lotions I’ve ever encountered. This doesn’t have the soothing feel of my favorite Skin Rescue Cream, but what it does have is the impressive ability to really hydrate the skin. If your issue is not with irritation, but with combating dryness, this would certainly benefit you. It feels like a cross between a creamy cream lotion and an oil type runnier lotion, but it really doesn’t feel oily or greasy at all. It’s a bit hard to explain the texture of this suffice to say that it works, it really does. It soaks in right away and just leaves the skin looking more nourished and glowing. I absolutely love this and will definitely purchase once I run out of the sample.

The last item I was able to try was the Chocolate Mint Chapstick Lip Balm. This is a really nice lip product! It doesn’t have a tint or anything, but the hydrating abilities of this are similar to the lotion in that it just melts into the lips without being too oily or greasy. It just feels lovely on the lips and very softening. I’m normally not a fan of chocolate type lip products, but this wasn’t so overwhelmingly chocolate that it bothered. Actually, I hardly notice the chocolate mint except in scent alone; the mint I do feel a bit because this is a little cooling on the lips, but mostly just super moisturizing and awesome to use.
