Liquid Minerals A Foundation

Hello Lovelies!

Today’s post centers on another liquid foundation I’ve been testing out for over a month now that I really love. You may remember my review on the Living Nature Foundation (If not, you can read the review – here) which I loved as well, but this foundation by Jane Iredale is a bit different, though nonetheless fantastic!

First off, if you’re unfamiliar with Jane Iredale, it is a natural beauty brand that offers a range of natural cosmetics that function as both makeup AND skincare. This is why they refer to their brand as “Skincare Makeup” because their products often have dual functionality for both aesthetics (looks) and the skin (anti-aging, anti-acne, etc.) effects that they claim come from wearing their cosmetics over an extended period of time. Their products are cruelty free and this foundation, in particular, is vegan and gluten free as well.

I was lucky enough to be sent this foundation with both their foundation brush and their Balance Hydrating Antioxidant Spray. The foundation brush is quite standard as far as brushes go. It’s a nice quality foundation brush, but for me, I prefer applying my foundation with a buffer brush or beautyblender type sponge so this didn’t get much use. I really dislike applying with this kind of brush and then having to smooth out the inevitable streaks so unfortunately, this brush didn’t get much use. Though I will say, if you enjoy using this kind of brush, the brush is a nice quality, there’s been absolutely no shedding at all, and it’s made of taklon nylon so it’s cruelty free and vegan.

Their Liquid Minerals A Foundation is very unique in that it is formulated with a calming base of aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin which suspend liposomes (they look like little liquid capsules in the bottle) which encapsulate many active ingredients and serve to penetrate your skin and help it absorb all of the benefits of these ingredients most effectively.

So, when you use this foundation, you’re not only meant to have a great finish, but also skin benefits over time and through continued use. Their formula is calming, lightweight, and includes a number of beneficial ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate (hydration), oat extract (calms irritation, redness), willow bark extract (acne, balances skin sebum), and many other extracts which are said to work to improve your skin from the inside out while providing an outwardly beautiful look.

But do their claims live up when tested? Personally, I think so! Although the coverage isn’t full, it is a nice moderate to medium soft finish. Since it’s water based, it won’t irritate skin or clog pores and it has not made my skin break out at all. I did find it quite weird to use at first because the pigment capsules are suspended in aloe gel and when you first pump the liquid out, the first few pumps come out clear, but after the first time, it’s fine to apply and the liquid comes out in a fairly even consistency.

This formula does fill in pores, though it’s not mask-like or heavy at all. In fact, it feels like I’m not wearing anything at all. Strangely enough, I find this to be more like a complexion enhancer than anything, but it does dry down to a semi-matte type light to medium coverage despite not feeling like it’s heavy or cakey. The coverage is even more so when applied using their Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener (You can see my review for that – here) and the staying power is much more polished with the primer than without.

I have been really enjoying using this foundation with their Balance Antioxidant Hydrating Spray as a setting spray – it gives a lovely dewy finish and I’m really loving that natural look this winter, especially because my skin can actually tolerate that look when it’s colder so I’m taking full advantage while I can!

I love the scent of this spray – it’s very natural, pleasant and light. There’s nothing at all overbearing about the scent like some other sprays / toners can sometimes be and it seems to be nicely hydrating without feeling oily or like there’s a residue on the skin so I love that for my skin.

Balance Antioxidant Hydration Spray

Overall, this is a really solid natural foundation! I love the idea of there being skincare benefits to wearing foundation, though I didn’t see a huge improvement in my skin that was seriously noticeable in the month and a half I’ve been using this. That being said, I love that their formulation is, for the most part, a very natural, gentle one that won’t irritate sensitive skin or clog pores for those with problem skin either. It doesn’t give a full coverage, but then, if you’re using natural, you can’t expect a hugely full coverage as it’s meant to accent your skin and even it out, but not cover it. The antioxidant spray was a nice addition to using this foundation – I highly recommend it for those who want that dewy natural finish. If not, this foundation dries down to a semi-matte or matte without it, depending on your skin type and what moisturizer you use. The foundation brush was good quality and build, but at $41, it’s not cheap and as someone who isn’t into that kind of brush, I’ll be passing it on to my sister who can get more use out of it than me.

What are your thoughts on using natural foundation as opposed to conventional types?

It’s crazy how fast October has come and gone!

I’m shocked it’s already November, actually, but alas.

So, with the end of another month, it’s time again for monthly favorites!

  1.  Living Nature Radiance Night Oil. I’ve been a fan of this one for awhile, but I haven’t really appreciated it fully until now because the weather’s finally changed and I actually need the extra nourishment. This is a lovely facial oil for night skincare. You can see my original review on it – here
  2. Jane Iredale Zap&Hide Blemish Concealer. I actually just received this one for review and I normally wouldn’t jump the gun like this, but I’m shocked I actually like this! One end is an acne treatment balm while the other is a concealer. Review for this one coming soon!
  3. Living Nature Foundation. Although the coverage isn’t full really, I do like the light to medium coverage of this foundation. I love the ingredients in it that work to improve your skin while you’re wearing it and it has a lovely finish when used with primer! Review coming soon!
  4. Ambrosia Foods Olive Body Oil. I mentioned this body oil earlier in the week when I spoke about oil cleansing for the body. Again, I know it must sound strange, but it actually does work and this has been amazingly cleansing and softening for my skin. Check out the post on it – here.
  5. Alpha-H Balancing Moisturizer and Gentle Exfoliant. This has been a favorite for awhile now and I’d actually run out of it, but I just got some more recently and I’ve been loving it more than ever! It’s perfect for breakouts, dullness, hyper-pigmentation, scarring, oiliness, dry skin, etc. It’s my favorite moisturizer for day and night at the moment. I love love love it. You can see the original review for it – here.
  6. Pai Echium BioRejuvenate Eye Cream. This eye cream is slowly, but surely becoming my favorite eye cream. I’ve been using it for a few months now and I love it, especially now that my eyes actually need the extra hydration right now. It’s super light, fast-absorbing and it really does seem to have an effect on fine lines! Check out my original review on this – here.

What are your beauty favorites for October?

Coming Soon! Healing Face Powders, Blush and More!

Image

So, after finally establishing my shop on Etsy, I am now able to focus on expanding my line a bit from the 3 original serums.

I am very excited about the line of healing face powder foundation shades and blushes that I will be coming out with very shortly!

They will include a strong calming powder base with botanical powders and extracts. This is something I have never seen done much if at all and that is basically the use of all natural botanical powders in the powder formulation.

This means that your makeup will function as both a means to look awesome and offer color, but also as a treatment while you wear it as the botanical ingredients work to help soften lines, calm redness and inflammation and even help to clear breakouts.

This is something I have always wanted in a powder myself so I am extremely psyched to be able to offer it to my customers!

Not only will you be able  wear the powders as a powder foundation and a blush, but the formulations themselves are designed to improve your skin and not only cover up blemishes, fine lines, and hyper-pigmentation, but also help to treat them!

These will be $25 for a 20 gram twist and lock sifter jar (saves product and great for travel!).

Only one size will be available initially, but I am thinking of  adding a 10 gram jar to offer a smaller trial type size for those who want to try it before buying the larger jars and also to make it more affordable to students, bargain hunters and the like who are on a budget.

^Let me know what you think! Do you want smaller jars to be available?

Aside from these awesome powders, I plan on also offering a line of face/eye creams to offer those who love the creamy texture of a face cream or eye cream over the texture of serums. These will include an acne, wrinkle and eye cream.
I may also add in a brightening cream in the future.

These will typically run the same prices as the serums, depending on size so about $15-$25.

Lastly, I will be adding concentrated creamy and gel facial cleansers. The gel cleansers will be more for brightening and blemish clearing while the cream cleansers will be more moisturizing and nourishing for dry, mature and sensitive skin types. In the beginning, I am going to offer these in smaller sizes, but they will last you a good amount as a little will go a long way. Later, I will add in larger sizes. Cleansers will be about $15-$25 as well.

That’s all for now!

I’m very excited about all of this and I hope you will leave me feedback on what your thoughts are.

Have a Nice Weekend!

Stay Beautiful
