Real Techniques Core Collection

{ This is NOT a sponsored post. I am not affiliated or associated with this company at all. I purchased these makeup brushes of my own free will and with my own money. As always, all opinions stated in this and any of my posts are completely my own. }

Everyone in the “blogosphere” has raved on and on about these incredible brushes from YouTube E-famous Pixiwoo’s Samantha Chapman – the Real Techniques makeup brush line – and after long last I have finally been able to get hold of some to see for myself!

I picked up their Core Collection and Expert Face Brush from Ulta and the first thing that really impressed me are the prices of these brushes. They are along the same price point of Eco Tools ( a big favorite of mine ) – around $8-$10 for a single brush and around $20 for a set of 3-4 brushes. The brushes alone look to be of very high quality and after using them, I find them to be very durable with little to no shedding from the bristles. The bristles are very soft and fluffy, but super dense and compact.

Included in the Core Collection:

  • Detailer Brush – Awesome for using eye shadow in crease, with cream eye shadow, or to conceal spots on the face. Although they market this as a concealer brush mainly, I wouldn’t use it to conceal under my eyes. I tried it and found it to be way too small and left the product looking streaky.
  • Pointed Foundation Brush – Although they market this as a foundation brush, I am not a huge fan of typical foundation brushes. I preferred to use this as an under eye concealer brush and it worked fantastically for that purpose.
  • Buffing Brush – This is a great multi-purpose brush for bronzer, blush or mineral foundation powder. I have used it for all 3 of these and it has worked really well. My only advice for using this with bronzer or blush is that you don’t need a massive amount of product. This brush is really good at utilizing a small amount of product for just the right amount of color payoff so there’s no need to pick up a ton of product because it will end up packing on way too much. This is also brilliant for full coverage powder foundation application – I used it with my Alima Pure Mineral Foundation and it came out really nice.
  • Contour Brush – This is one of the main brushes in this set that I was pretty excited to try out. It actually works just as they advise. It works great for contouring on the face and only a little bit of product is needed to create a nice diffused look. I really love it! Now all I need is a good contour powder! Any recommendations? Please leave them in the comments below!!
  • Panoramic Brush Case + Stand – This case is surprisingly nice and simple, but multi-functional. I was really surprised because it’s a simple fold up makeup case for the brushes, but one end can be flipped back which turns the case into a little stand for the brushes. It’s really quite a nice touch and it gives good value to this set.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

The other brush I picked up was their Expert Face Brush which has gotten really great reviews for it’s application of face products, in general, but namely liquid and cream type foundations. I haven’t used this for liquid foundation yet, but I have used it loads of times now with my RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up which gave me great results.  This brush is quite short, but the bristles are super densely packed so you have a lot of control. I find that with longer bristle face brushes, it’s really easy to feel like you don’t have much control because they are easily bent every which way. This one makes application easy, seamless and streak free without much effort or skill.

Overall, I really love these brushes. They are super unique in design, in my opinion, because they are made to help everyday makeup users such as myself apply products with ease and they definitely succeed in that. A lot of times, makeup brush brands generally all look the same and have the same function, but I really love that these brushes deviate a bit and offer brushes that are easy for the everyday person to use. I think these would be fantastic for anyone who is new to using makeup and makeup brushes because they are super easy to use and they are very affordable. They are sold in a number of places online, including on their own Real Techniques home site and even now Walmart’s online shop even offers them.  I’m not sure if Walmart has them in store yet, but you can find them in Ulta or Boots, if you have those near you.

What do you think of makeup brushes?

Do you use them or do you prefer using your hands or Q-tips?

Have you ever tried these Real Techniques brushes?

If not, what’s your favorite makeup brush brand?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

I just saw that Too Faced Cosmetics is currently having a sale and yes, I had to blog it!

Anyway, they’re discounting things up to 70% Off, which is insane and awesome all at once!

To Get You All in the Shopping Mood, Here’s a Few of My Favorites from Too Faced!

Lip Injection Duo

Lip Injection Duo; $26 $10

I tried Too Faced Lip Injection wayyy before I started this blog which is likely why I never thought to review it. It totally burn-tingles going on, but I’m the kind of girl who wants plump lips so bad that I’m sitting there like ” Oo It burns so good! ”  Just kidding. It does plump lips, though temporarily, and it smells like cinnamon which I love! Up to you whether you like the tingly feeling or not.

Luggage Tag

Luggage Tag $10 $5

I have been wanting a Luggage Tag for ages so I might actually pick this one up. I just think they’re cute ways of accessorizing luggage and also a great way to figure out which non-descript suitcase is yours at the baggage claim. Just saying!

Natural Beauty

Natural Beauty Kit $29 $14

I really loved their eye shadow primer, Shadow Insurance, but that was a few years ago so no idea if they’ve changed the formula or not. If not, this is awesome! If yes, I am lost. I’ve never tried the face primer because, as you might know, I’m really paranoid when it comes to using face primers that have silicone. If you are too, feel free to check out this one or this one, both of which I love and one of which has silicone! I like this kit in spite of the face primer, though, because it’s a fantastic value and that’s really what a cheap girl like me wants – a fantastic deal. Yep. Thrifty is IN people! 😉

Little Black Book of Beauty

Little Black Book of Beauty Kit $36 $18

Lastly, they have this kit which I saw for $36 around this past December and have really loved the design of it, but was too cheap to spring for it at the time. Now that it’s literally half the price, I just might pick it up!

Today’s post focuses on all the amazing DIY pins I’ve discovered on Pinterest. There really are some awesome things to be discovered on Pinterest – definitely join if you haven’t already! It’s convinced me I can make everything despite a severe handicap (no, not really) when it comes to crafts. So, here are some of my favorites; I hope you enjoy!

DIY Bracelet From animatedknots.com via Pinterest

I’m not much for crocheting or sewing or anything that requires a lot of patience (a virtue I was not gifted with) really, but I actually love this bracelet and plan on making one (or several) for myself! It seems pretty easy.

DIY Nail Polish Tutorial From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’ve been wanting to try this one for ages and I really love this tutorial. Anyone tried this yet with their eye shadows? Any advice is appreciated!

DIY Coconut Milk Shampoo From onegoodthingbyjillee.com via Pinterest

I really want to do this one as hair products can be pretty expensive, but I’m concerned about it being color safe. Again, if anyone has advice on this front!

DIY Re-Vamped Flats From makeit-loveit.com via Pinterest

I really love this tutorial for re-vamping flats as I’m someone who tends to scuff up perfectly good flats in a month’s time. Yeah, I’m shoe-abusive and I tend to get bored easily so this is a fun way to change with the trends without going broke.

Not sure if this actually works on nails, but I’ll try it soon and let you know!

never buy white strips again!: dip q-tip in hydrogen peroxide (the key ingredient in whitestrips) and apply to surface of teeth for 30 sec before brushing teeth) once a day for a few days. Teeth will look whiter in 2 days.

DIY Whiten Your Teeth via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m seriously going to pick up some hydrogen peroxide so I can test it out. Basically, you dip a Q-tip into some hydrogen peroxide and polish each tooth before brushing your teeth. Wait 30 minutes with the peroxide on your teeth before brushing regularly. People say there’s a huge difference when you do it for one week straight and it’s certainly cheaper and more eco than Crest white strips, right?

DIY Blackhead Treatment From stylebees.com via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m curious to see how it will work. May try this one tonight as I finally picked up some lemons. Anyone tried this yet?

DIY Eyelash Growth Treatment From fashionindie.com via Pinterest

I have seriously long lashes (Italians are hairy okay), but since I decided to get tweezer happy as a teen, my brows grow in bizarrely and don’t grow in at all in some places so I may try this one out on my brows.

DIY Nail Dots Pinned from Pinterest for iPhone via Pinterest

As I’ve said, I’m nail – inferior, but the idea of making dots on my nails sounds like fun. I’m like a kid banging on a piano – I can’t actually play the damn thing, but I can pretend.

At-Home Spa Treatments From lulus.com via Pinterest

I looove to do DIY facials in the winter for some reason. I don’t know if that’s because I’m in somewhat hibernation and leave my house less or what, but it’s fun and these are pretty easy to make. I’ve done all of these except the bath one and the anti-redness facial. Though, lately, I am getting a lot of redness (I’ve run out of my Suti Cleansing Balm & Moisturizer! 😦 ) due to the weather changes so I may try the anti-redness one soon.

Map Nails via Pinterest [Not sure of source – if someone knows, please let me know so I can update this!] – You can get a tutorial for this here though > http://polishpedia.com/map-nails.html

This seems like a fun alternative to painting my nails and it looks cool too!

DIY Sock Bun From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’m trying this one tonight as I haven’t had the heart to mutilate any of my socks until now, but this one seems too good to pass up and certainly more gentle than constantly putting my hair in a bun the normal way. Maybe.

Romantic French Braid Tutorial From abeautifulmess.typepad.com via Pinterest

I may try this come Thanksgiving. I really love the look! It’s so simple, but very romantic and it’s cold out and about that time when I get super sentimental and pull out my Pride & Prejudice and start quoting about “how ardently I admire and love you..” and my boyfriend looks at me like, WTH did you just say? with his eyebrow raised. Yes, it happens.

ANYWAY!

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far ❤

I’m absolutely loving the new Elie Tahari lineup for Spring 2013! (You can see it – here – if you like!) He featured a variety of vibrant colored super chic tailored womens’ wear that featured deep hues of blue, green, purple, and pinky corals and fuschia as well as lighter ocean blues and pinks which just popped with tons of color!

His collections seem to have a way of being eye-catching yet understated which I find really impressive and for his Spring 2013 Collection, he enlisted the help of top makeup artists from Jane Iredale to create totally flawless looks for the show!

All of the looks were so beautiful and totally on trend – faces were first given a dewy golden base with the Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener and the Brand New Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream (I mentioned this one recently – here – on my list of items to try in Fall 2012) to give the skin a naturally youthful and healthy look.

After they primed and prepped faces, Jane Iredale makeup artists created charcoal smoky eyes with natural lips. Using shadow palettes from the Simply Magical Color Collection such as the Sundown Pure Pressed Eye Shadow Triple  and  Mystikol in Smoky Quartz, they created beautifully subdued smoldering eye looks. They coupled this with youthful plush lips using the LipDrink SPF15 Lip Balm.

What do you think of the makeup looks that were created for this show?

Personally, I love that they used a natural cosmetics line such as Jane Iredale to create such feminine, sexy, understated looks. They matched perfectly with Elie Tahari’s collection and I love that they’ve done it in such a natural way!

What do you guys think?

Honeybee Gardens Party Girl Face Palette Review + GIVEAWAY!

I was so happy when Honeybee Gardens sent me this palette for review and I’ve been trying to post on it for ages! I’d actually done some looks with it awhile ago and I was all set to post on it and show you all the fun looks I created with these shadows when, like a complete idiot, I deleted them off my phone without thinking. Then I had to move so it’s all been one thing after another! So, I apologize for the delay on this because I have been wanting to show it to you for awhile now and I finally did some brand new looks for it! I hope you enjoy!

I think this palette is fantastic because it has such vibrant colors for the Summer that anyone can wear and look great. The number one thing I love about this eye shadow palette is the ingredients. It includes a lot of natural ingredients in these eye shadow colors such as kaolin clay, vitamin E, roman chamomile, cucumber, and aloe. Plus,  these colors are totally customizable and can be toned down or built up for eye-catching makeup looks that work well for day and night.

This palette features 4 extremely pigmented and bright colors – Velour (deep purple), Mojito (mint green), Cupcake (soft pinkish violet) and Shipwreck (deep blue). It also includes a really nice quality dual ended eye shadow brush made of bamboo which I found to be really handy to use when I was out an about.

One thing I really love about Honeybee Gardens in general is their commitment to natural beauty and this palette truly highlights that with the fact that their ingredients are natural and skin beneficial as well as being eco-friendly AND cruelty free!

A Closer Look At The Colors:

Makeup Look With Cupcake and Velour:

For this look, I’ve added a color shimmer shadow over the top as these pigmented colors are basically matte with a very subtle shimmer and for some reason, I’m all about gold lately! I’m also wearing the Eyeko eyeliner I got in my June Birchbox (see that review – here!). I wore this look for a subtle evening type makeup look as I was going to the movies with my boyfriend!

Makeup Look with Shipwreck:

See what I mean about the gold obsession?

Sorry for my crazy eye look haha. I don’t know why I’m squinting my eye so much; I think I must be trying to “aim” my eye at the camera, but that’s just ridiculous and obviously didn’t work out to well for me. Anyhow, just avoid trying to stare at my random crazy eye too long and focus on the eye shadow! LOL.

I feel like it goes really nice with those glowy dewy type looks and I’ve really enjoyed wearing it especially with the CARGO HydraBronze Powder I recently bought because it just feels really Summer-y! So this look also includes the gold because I’m just that obsessed with gold at the moment, but I also added some nude shimmer and beige colors  because I’m spontaneous like that.

Makeup Look with Mojito:

So this is the last look and my favorite! It’s pretty sea and mermaid inspired and I really like the way it turned out. On the inner third of my eye, I’ve used gold shimmer shadow (of course!) and then the mojito in the center and then a deep bronze shimmer shadow on the  outer third of my eye. It looks a bit strange in the photo, but in person I promise it looks very ethereal and mystic! It’s a really pretty look, though I didn’t actually wear it anywhere. I just sort of played around with it a bit and had some fun. I think this would work well for something theatrical like a Halloween costume look or a fairy whimsical look. I feel like it totally embodies Summer though and I hope you like it!

I really love this eye shadow palette and I’ve been using it a lot for creating fun looks for when I’m out and about on the weekends. Honeybee Gardens carries a number of other equally lovely shadow palettes and they’re all very affordable and have really cute themes for each season and every look. If you’re not too deep into makeup, they also carry a number of awesome skincare, body care and even a men’s line of products!
