Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Before I being today’s post, I just want to take a second to say I am not a doctor. If you have a specific skin condition or if you are simply unsure whether this method will work for you, please consult your physician beforehand. This is simply a method that has really worked well for me so I hope it helps some of you in your goals for clear, glowing body skin.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know all about my body’s dry skin issues. That being said, I haven’t talked about the things I do to combat and keep my dry skin at bay. The main thing I’ve been doing for a few months now is oil cleansing for the body.

When people discuss oil cleansing, it’s usually referring to the face, but I’ve been using natural olive oil body oil to wash my body. This may actually turn quite a few people off, but it actually really works incredibly well for me.

First of all, I still use soap to cleanse delicate lady parts (sorry, it needs to be said), but everywhere else (aside from my hair) gets cleansed with the body oil I purchased at my local farmer’s market from a company called Ambrosia Foods.

I experimented cleansing this way for the first time because cleansing with traditional soap just wasn’t doing it for me. It didn’t matter if the body wash or soap was for dry skin, it still dried my skin out and occasionally made me peel. So, I thought, why not take the principles of oil cleansing for the face and apply that to my body?

So, in order to avoid the annoying oily type feeling, here’s how I achieve soft, glowing skin through oil cleansing without feeling super oily at the end of it all.

I posted about these gloves I picked up at Target several months ago from Eco Tools and they’ve worked very well for me. So, when I decided to begin my experimenting with oil cleansing for the body, these were a must-have. Basically what I do is I apply body oil (the one shown above or whatever body oil I have on hand) while in the shower and I massage it into my skin while using these exfoliating shower gloves. Then I rinse off a little, turn off the shower and dry my skin. The exfoliating gloves really help the oil absorb into my skin while sloughing off dead skin cells and cleansing dirt. Just remember to be gentle around your breast, neck and under arm areas where the skin is much thinner because exfoliating too hard can irritate and inflame your skin.

Not only does my skin not feel oily after the fact, but it’s left brighter, clearer, more supple and hydrated. If I feel I still need added moisture, I’ll apply a normal body lotion once out of the shower. My two current favorites are the Skin Rescue Lotion from Max Green Alchemy and the Intrinsic Organics Body Lotion because they both absorb easily without leaving residue behind and they hydrate the skin really well without clogging pores.

So, I know it may sound weird, but try it and see for yourself; you may be surprised at the results!

Words of caution – be careful when using oil in the shower, you can slip and hurt yourself if you’re not careful. Also, make sure you rinse your shower out well after bathing because it can cause dirt to stick to the tub if you don’t rinse with hot water after the fact and may also cause the next person to shower to slip and fall as well.

Have you ever tried oil cleansing before for the face or body?

What were your experiences with this method of cleansing?

OMG I WANT THIS!

It’s the Special Edition Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser from Liz Earle, but this one is in Rose & Lavender! As you may know (if you’ve been on the follow train here at SA), I loveee the original Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser from Liz Earle (See My Review – Here!) and I’m just dying to try this one now I know it exists!

There are a few other cool things about purchasing this cleanser as well – 1. £2 of each sale will go toward the Prince’s Trust, a UK organization dedicated to bettering the lives of young people and assisting them in getting jobs, etc. You can learn more about the “Tomorrow Campaign” here. 2. Since this version uses rose and lavender, it may be especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin types!

Alas, I have disappointing news! They’re only selling it on their UK site! (Finally, something AJ’s Mommie can purchase! ;-)) I’m pretty sad about this news, but hopefully some of you lovelies can benefit!

It retails at £19.75.

Have A Lovely Weekend!

One of My Favorite Affordable Naturally Brightening, Skin Smoothing and Blemish Clearing Exfoliation Treatments!

Papaya & Willow Bark Smoothing Enzyme Exfoliator; $14.95

Happy Friday Everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment to let you all know about this amazing skin exfoliator I have used that has a pretty natural ingredient list, an awesome price (see above), and really great results.

The Papaya & Willow Bark Smoothing Enzyme Exfoliator by Claribel Skincare is ultra gentle and very effective. I purchased it off Etsy for only $14.95 USD, which is an incredible price, and I was very surprised at the results.

The formula is pretty simple and includes aloe vera, papaya enzymes and willow bark extract to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells off your face in only 2-10 minutes!

It’s a very watery type consistency, but it comes in a dropper bottle to ensure you get just the exact amount that you will need, which isn’t a lot by the way.

You apply a thin layer to your face and leave on for 2-10 minutes. You will feel a light tingling and sometimes a little of an itchy type sensation, but that’s supposed to happen. Obviously you want to wash it off right away if you experience anything more than that. It doesn’t really dry out or anything, it just feels a bit tingly and then you rinse after it’s been 2-10 minutes, no longer than that. It really is quite gentle as far as exfoliator treatments go, but see what time you’re comfortable with within the 2-10 minutes of recommended time. Everyone is different so you may find that you only need 2 minutes or you might need all 10. Your skin may change over time as well; just gauge it on how your skin feels and you’ll be fine.

Anyhow, so after I wash this treatment off my skin feels incredibly soft and smooth. I do experience a little bit of redness directly after using this, but it goes away within 30 minutes of washing this off and applying moisturizer.

What I love about this treatment is that there are “No Sulfates, Synthetic Preservatives, Petroleum, Parabens or Silicones.” Also, it’s gentle enough to use twice a day if you need it.

From my experimenting with this treatment, I have found that these are the best uses for it:

  • Acne Treatment
  • Blackhead / Whitehead Treatment
  • Pore Cleansing
  • Unclog Pores
  • Clear Dead Skin Cells
  • Slough Off Dry Skin / Flakes for Mature Skin
  • Regenerate and Stimulate Cell Regeneration
  • Get Healthy and Naturally Glowing Skin

I really love this product because it combines modern technology with natural plant power. I love natural and organic ingredients wherever possible, but I have found that when it comes to acid exfoliation, technology usually wins. Also, I hate purchasing a product that’s natural or organic and usually expensive only to find that it doesn’t work. I like the idea of Claribel Skincare taking the best of both worlds to offer affordable products that certainly get the job done, but without all the fillers and other unnecessary crap ingredients found in many mainstream brand products.

Easy Face Masks, Scrubs & Enzyme Peel Recipes Straight from Your Kitchen

A lot of times, I think people forget or maybe don’t even realize how simply it can be to enjoy the luxuries of a face mask, scrub or peel, even if you can’t afford to purchase one from the store.

Because of this, I thought I’d draw up a list so you can see exactly how many ingredients you likely have sitting in your pantry or refrigerator at this very moment that you could easily use in your beauty regimen!

Here are Some of My Favorites:

Oatmeal is one of the easiest and most obtainable face mask ingredients. You can mix it with water, milk or honey and blend it to form a paste or simply mix it with water and use it as a scrub. Oatmeal is great for sensitive skin types and those battling rosacea and redness. As a mask, apply to your face for 5-10 minutes and rinse.

Strawberries are great for brightening and toning the skin and they work wonders on acne. Blend a couple in a food processor or mash them by hand with some honey or a little water. Use as a scrub and the seeds will give you nice scrubbing action, but be sure t be gentle about it! As a mask, apply to your face for 5-10 minutes and rinse.

Yogurt is awesome for a number of skin concerns. It can work well at calming redness, cooling skin irritations, acne, and it gently exfoliates the skin as a mask. Make sure you use the plain variety, preferably plain Greek yogurt with full fat. Apply to your face for 5-10 minutes and rinse.

Milk probably seems like a really strange thing to be putting on your face, but it works wonders as a gentle exfoliant! The lactic acid in milk helps slough off dead skin cells without causing irritation, but make sure you choose an organic variety to avoid any hormones or steroids that can be found in conventional milk. All you have to do is brush a thin layer onto your face, leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse. Your skin should feel softer and brighter instantly!

Many acidic fruits such as pineapple, papaya, oranges and even apples offer mild exfoliation, brightening and enyzmes to encourage cell turnover for your skin.  Apples may be especially beneficial due to quercetin which is found naturally in apples and can be used to prevent premature aging, acne, and a host of other benefits. Blend a small amount of any of these fruits, apply a thin layer to face for 5-10 minutes and rinse. Try to use organic to avoid pesticides.

Cucumbers are very calming. A lot of people use slices on the eyes to calm redness and under eye puffiness, but you can also blend them to use in a cooling face mask. My favorite is blending cucumbers, fresh sage and some water for a very refreshing and cooling face mask. This will help with redness, acne, and puffiness. You can also use this as a really nice toner during the summer, but be sure to keep your toner spray bottle in the fridge to make it last longer!

Eggs are great for a myriad of skin needs. Egg whites are great applied as a firming face mask because they have a temporary tightening and lifting effect on the skin. Simply separate egg whites from the yolk and apply the whites in a thin layer on your face. Leave until dried and then either gently peel off or rinse with warm water. You can also use the yolk in eggs if you need extra moisture.

For a Face Scrub, you can add sea salt, brown sugar, or baking soda to any of these recipes. If you have drier skin, you may want to add a bit of extra virgin olive oil to the recipe.

That’s all for now!

Coming Soon! Organic Manuka Honey & Bee Venom Face Masks

Lately in the skincare world, especially in the world of high end high priced (or overpriced as I like to say), there has been a LOT of talk about Bee Venom masks, the  exotic benefits of Manuka Honey and the anti aging, anti acne, and overall skin health benefits this sort of mask can offer. Reviews are in for the Bee Venom mask by Manuka Doctor and people love it.

So I thought, why not offer a similar bee venom mask myself including certified organic manuka honey with bee venom, natural and organic oils, and natural botanical powders, clays and extracts that will give you the same benefits that the whopping $86 Manuka Doctor Bee Venom mask promises consumers without the hefty price tag.

After bouncing this idea off friends, family and customers, I have decided that this is definitely going to be something I want to offer customers, especially those who want a product that works just as well if not better than the high end, overpriced masks, but for a fraction of the price.

I will be doing a focus group trial run in the coming weeks to perfect a formulation so if anyone is interested in trying the product and answering questions for me, you get a free sample size amount of the product to test on yourself and then answer a questionnaire for me.

Feel free to email me at tiannasicilia@yahoo.com if you’re interested for more information.

Thanks!
