Skin Owl Argan Infusions

Back in late February, I wrote this post introducing Annie Tevelin, AKA the Skin Owl, and interviewing her on her lovely line of minimal, but nonetheless effective Skin Owl Argan Infusions. I’ve been testing out 3 samples that she sent me, 1 of each type of Argan Infusion available, of these lovely skin treatments and I’m happy to report back that these are just as awesome as they sound!

First off, they come in 3 different variations – Lavender, Clary Sage and Geranium. Although they are said to be suited for all skin types, each has a focus. For instance, lavender is said to be most beneficial for sensitive, oily, and acne prone skin while clary sage is said to be best for dry, mature skin types. Geranium is said to be best for combination skin types and those battling dullness. That being said, they are all safe for use on all skin types and I can attest to that because I’ve used all 3 of them on my sensitive, acne prone, combination skin with lovely results.

Argan Infusion: Lavender

They all come in lovely, yet simple dropper bottles and each has a different, but pleasant scent. My favorite is the lavender because I find it really relaxing and I got the best results with it, given it’s most recommended for my skin type. That being said, the others worked well also, but the results were less noticeable.

These all absorb almost immediately into the skin, leaving no residue behind, though a slight after thought of their given scents remain for a bit then fade after 30 or so minutes. Overnight, the results are pretty noticeable. Acne looks calmer and more diminished, redness and pigmentation look more calm and even which gives the skin more clarity, and the skin just looks much better on the whole.

One thing I will say is that if you have very dry skin, I would recommend this be used in conjunction with a more intense moisturizer or balm like Suti’s Organic Purity Balm or something as this is not moisturizing enough, in my opinion, for dry patches. I do think it’s plenty enough for combination to oily skin types, though, especially in Spring and Summer months. For dry skin types or in the Winter if you’ve experienced patchiness, you will need to layer a cream or balm over this. That being said, the results will still be apparent as I’ve used these both alone on the skin and underneath a skin balm with the same results.

Aside from use on the face, this can also be used to treat dryness  on the body, decollete and hands, though, again, you may need to layer a heavier balm if you’re battling serious dryness. For simple things like elbow patchiness, though, this will do fine alone. I had the best results with the Geranium Argan Infusion for skin dryness, but I think any one of these would work well. I also used the Clary Sage Argan Infusion on the ends of my hair which helped tame some flyaways really nicely and on the bottom of my feet. No idea if it had much effect on my feet, but the scent and feeling of it was nice and relaxing before bed! You’ll likely get best results on your feet is you apply a few drops and then put on socks before bedtime. I also used the Lavender Argan Infusion to heal some little cuts and a small oven burn I’d gotten on my hands and it really helped them to heal and diminish a LOT faster than if left to heal in their own time.

Overall, these Argan Infusions work superbly {yep I said that} and I’d highly recommend them to anyone and everyone who has skin concerns that need tending to – these are just the treatments to get the job done!

What Are Your Thoughts On These?

I’d Love to Know in the Comments!

I was recently sent a sample of this Intensive-C® Vitamin C Face Radiance Peel by Murad Skincare from The Beauty Box, a lovely online beauty retailer, which sells a number of popular and unique niche indie beauty products at great prices. I really love the site’s wishlist function which, once you set up an account, allows you to save the products you want to a wish list for later. I’m kind of obsessed with wish lists because they’re handy for keeping track of all the things I want, especially when it comes to beauty things.

Anyway, I was super excited to try this out as I’ve been praising Dr. Murad and his skin philosphies on this blog since the early days. If you weren’t with us yet, do check out this post and this post to learn more about Dr. Howard Murad’s awesome views on beauty and health. Otherwise, try out this delicious smoothie recipe from his book.

So, since receiving this from the lovely ladies of The Beauty Box a few weeks ago, I’ve tested it out several times and I am really happy to report back to you that this face peel works really well and surprisingly fast. It comes out of the squeeze tube easily enough and you can control how much comes out given it’s in a tube which I really like as I hate to waste product. It looks pretty much like a face lotion and you apply a thin layer to your face after cleansing. Then, you leave it on for up to 10 minutes and rinse off with a warm wash cloth. The feel of this isn’t nearly as noticeable as the Liquid Gold from Alpha-H which has a noticeable tingle to it. I don’t know if this will offer similar long term results to that, but it’s certainly a more gentle option for those who can’t bear the tingle of Alpha-H’s glycolic acid products. If you prefer a more natural peel option, check here.

This peel, as many of the products in the Intensive-C® line from Murad, utilizes a number of beneficial ingredients for the skin including glycolic acid and vitamin C which work to slough off dead skin cells and fight off free radical damage brought on by stress, pollution and UV rays to reveal a brighter, healthier complexion. They also utilize a variety of natural essential oils, plant extracts, clays and amino acids to help heal and encourage cell turnover and collagen production.

The difference between before and after using this is like night and day for me. I tried it a few weeks ago, for the first time, not thinking it’d be too effective, but I was really surprised that the effects seemed so immediately noticeable on my skin. After I rinsed the peel off, my skin looked instantly brighter, clearer, and felt softer and smoother. I’m not sure how they’re doing it all, but it really does work time and again as I’ve now used it several times and can attest to the consistent results this delivers. Not only that, but I do think it has actually improved my skin for the better and would certainly recommend it to those battling dullness, acne scarring or hyperpigmentation or brown spots, and other discoloration. Although I wish this was a more natural formula, the results are undeniable.

You can check this peel out at The Beauty Box – here.

Annie Tevelin – the Skin Owl

SkinOwl

I recently discovered a new beauty brand called SkinOwl – a beauty brand created by the Skin Owl herself, Annie Tevelin. After years of working in the beauty industry and experiencing the empty promises of many over priced and often ineffective cosmetic brands, the Skin Owl (Annie’s alter ego)  was created as a way to fight off Annie’s skin problems in a natural, yet effective way that was affordable, honest and simple. The goal is for SkinOwl to be a voice of truth in the beauty industry. I was very lucky to be able to pick the Skin Owl’s brain and share a bit of her brilliance and philosophy on beauty – Read on for my interview with her!

Argan Infusion: Lavender

Argan Infusion: Lavender

How did you first get into beauty?

I was so enthralled with skincare and makeup as a child. Every time I went shopping with my mother I would wander off to the cosmetics department. The women were so pretty, so put together. They were my first beauty mentors. I would go from counter to counter asking for tips and tricks and I was no more than 10! I was a sponge, taking everything in at such a young age. All the colors and textures. I was enamored. I’m convinced makeup taught me what color was way before Crayola. It wasn’t until I turned 25 that I decided to change careers and take a risk on a long-lost dream.

When did you create your alter ego, the Skin Owl, and what is the meaning behind the name itself?

SkinOwl was created in 2011 and was born to fill a void in the cosmetics industry. Like many of my clients, I spent a lot of money on products and treatments that didn’t work. Dermatologists cost me a lot of money and most of what they prescribed irritated my skin in the long run. When I thought about all of the women who might feel overwhelmed or lost when shopping for products, and with so many products available to them, I knew I had something to offer them with my experience. It just made sense for me to help people the best I could to look and feel their most beautiful. SkinOwl defines beautiful skin, wisdom, and truth as one entity.

Argan Infusion: Clary Sage

I’ve done a bit of reading about your products and I know that they include what you call the Argan Infusion. What exactly is the Argan Infusion and why is it so beneficial to skin?

Argan Infusion is a luxurious facial oil that can be used as a treatment or moisturizer on the face, nails and body. It comes in three infusions, Lavender, Geranium, and Clary Sage, each of which cater to different skin concerns. I’m not interested in creating “fluffy” products. I only want to offer healthy ingredients in products that work & Argan Infusion is a prime example of that. The anti-inflammatory properties are noticed after one day. The skin’s luminosity and radiance is restored in less than a week. And within a month, most people claim that they’ve never seen their skin look so youthful and balanced. It’s exciting to watch!

Argan Infusion: Geranium

Why is beauty integrity so important to you, not only as a person, but as a brand?
Integrity is the most important thing a person can have. It makes or breaks a person’s character. I’ve always wanted my personal life to mirror my professional life. I can’t imagine seeking a healthy lifestyle, having a positive outlook, and trying to achieve balance in my personal life without wanting the same for my company. SkinOwl has allowed me take what I find important and apply it elsewhere, so that it hopefully brings out the best in others.
And finally, please describe your idea of true beauty in one word or phrase.
“True beauty has nothing to hide. Feeling beautiful, not looking beautiful, is the key. “
– the Skin Owl

Thanks so much to the Skin Owl for her lovely and honest interview!

What Do You Think of the Skin Owl’s Beauty Philosophy?

Let Me Know in the Comments!

Hi lovelies!

I’m back with another Best of 2012 post (there are only 2 left!) and today’s post focuses on my 2 favorite facial exfoliators – one is more on the natural side than the other – both are VERY effective at exfoliating the skin so I hope this helps those of you looking for a nice facial exfoliant!

The first one may not be a surprise to most of you as I have raved and raved about Alpha-H’s Liquid Gold for awhile now and it is absolutely worth the hype! When you use this one properly, it really does reveal brighter, clearer, more beautiful skin over time. It’s unique in the way that you use it because it comes out like a watery toner consistency which you apply with a cotton pad after you’ve cleansed your skin. Then, you don’t apply anything else – just this – and leave it on overnight. So, no lotion or serum or anything except some eye cream, if you like, and the next day, your skin will look much improved! I was so excited the first time I used it because I didn’t know if I’d see the results so quickly or not and was scared of being disappointed, but it definitely didn’t let me down! I even think this has helped diminish some minor acne scars I have on my cheeks as well. The only hitch with this product is I recommend that it be used after you’ve really deeply cleansed your skin (or double cleansed) so that it can really penetrate deeply. If not, I notice that on nights when I’ve used it and been lazy with my cleansing, I can see it doesn’t make as much of a difference to my skin as it would if I cleansed properly so that’s important and secondly, this is NOT for sensitive skin types. I can be sensitive at times and I don’t use this when I am. If you react easily with products, I don’t recommend this one. For exfoliation on sensitive skin, I recommend using a muslin cloth with a nourishing cleanser like the Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser or Suti’s CLEANSE Organic Balm which will calm the skin while cleansing and exfoliating mildly.

You can see my original review post for the Liquid Gold by Alpha-H – here.

Papaya & Willow Bark Smoothing Enzyme Exfoliator

My second favorite facial exfoliant is the Papaya and Willow Bark Smoothing Enzyme Exfoliator by Claribel Skincare. This one is a much more natural choice in terms of exfoliators as it utilizes willow bark (natural form of salicylic acid) and papaya enzymes to slough off dead skin cells. This is very similar in consistency to the Liquid Gold, but it smells a lot better (LG smells like nothing while this is a bit fruity smelling!) and is only meant to be left on for around 5-15 minutes before rinsing it off. You definitely feel the tingle with this one, though not as intensely as you might with the Liquid Gold, but it works really well nonetheless and does so very naturally. I love how minimal the ingredient list is as well – Aloe Vera, Papaya Enzyme (Lactobacillus/Papaya Fruit Ferment Extract), and Willow Bark Extract and that’s it. Also, this one is much more affordable than the Alpha-H and has much the same function.

Bestcleansers2012_StorybookApothecary.Com

I’m so thrilled to begin a new series of posts today for the next week or so on all my top picks in beauty – skincare, makeup, hair, nails, tools, and body care products for the year 2012!

I’ve done a ton of reviews this year and sorted through the crap to bring you all the best products with the most effective, natural ingredients in their formulations so I hope you enjoy this series and leave your thoughts in the comments along the way!

Today’s post is focusing on the best facial cleansers of 2012 and if you’ve been following along for any measure of time, you won’t be surprised at my picks which I’ve spoke about again and again and again because they are my go-to cleansers.

First in the list is Antonia Burrell’s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil which is fantastic for any skin type, but will do especially well for those suffering from congestion, dullness, acne breakouts, skin that feels both oily and dry, and just generally imbalanced skin. That is not to say that other skin types won’t benefit, though, because this cleansing oil is really lovely and includes lots of potent plant extracts and oils which work to heal the skin from the inside out. It truly works and you will see incredible improvements in your skin in very little time, especially if you’re battling skin issues. To see my original review on this cleansing oil, check here.

Second in the list is Suti Skincare’s CLEANSE Organic Balm which I have raved and raved about. This has certainly been another of my go to cleansers for when my skin is out of balance, especially when it just feels drier than usual or tighter than usual or if it’s feeling red and inflamed. This is the best thing to calm skin down! I really love it as a massage balm to cleanse skin, especially as an all-in-one cleanser + makeup remover because not only does it get the job done, but it leaves my skin super soft, clear and hydrated without a moisturizer. Also, since they include a natural muslin cloth with the cleanse balm, you get a bit of gentle exfoliation if you use the cloth to remove the balm and there’s no oily residue (for those who dislike that!). I’ve enjoyed this one both in Summer and Winter months with great success. I think those with sensitive, dry, and mature skin will really enjoy this one a lot, but I also think there can be some benefit to those with other skin types as well, especially if you’ve had issues with skin that just seems to be out of sorts. The ingredients in this are amazing, natural AND effective all at once. You can see my original review on this cleanse balm here.

Third on the list is another cleanser that I’ve just talked and talked about over and over again and that is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which is brilliant for oily, acne prone skin types! I think it will work for other skin types as well, though very sensitive and dry skin types may want to tread carefully as this includes a strong amount of acne fighting essential oils which may irritate or dry your skin depending on your skin type. For those who have oily, combination or acne prone skin, though, this one is absolutely amazing! It works a lot like my childhood favorite Noxzema (and smells like it too!) though with a host of natural ingredients instead of harmful ones to clear pores out, balance oil production, calm breakouts and redness, and mildly exfoliate all at the same time. It works much like an old fashioned cleansing creme because you use 1-2 pumps which you massage all over your face including on eyes and lips to remove all traces of makeup and dirt. Then, you rinse the cloth in warm to hand hot water and use it to buff the cream off of your face. It really softens the skin, clears out dead skin cells and pores, and helps to combat breakouts. I love this one as a staple, especially in the Summertime. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

Lastly, there is Living Nature’s Vitalising Cleanser which I really love for all skin types as it is gentle enough for even the most sensitive, but will also benefits those with oily, combination or dry skin as well. I think that someone with breakouts may also benefit, but depending on your skin, you may need something more cleansing. This is a great one for if your skin is irritated or just feels dry or dull as it’s very hydrating to use. It feels a bit like using a very moisturizing lotion on your skin and it smells wonderful all while gently cleansing and nourishing the skin. I think those with dry and sensitive skin will really see a lot of benefit with this one because of the botanical ingredients and hydrating oils in the formulation. Also, if you have any kind of damage on your skin, this one is lovely for healing gently without causing any irritation or being too abrasive. It’s just a lovely, calming, gentle cleanser and it works very well in the Winter especially when your skin needs more hydration and nourishment. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

So, those are my picks for the best face cleansers of 2012 – What Are Yours?

Stay tuned all week for more of my top beauty picks for 2012!

12 Days of Christmas Giveaways - Liz Earle - StorybookApothecary.Com

Hello lovelies!

I’m back again with another day of giveaway goodies in my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways event and today’s giveaway item is the much-raved-about Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser by Liz Earle!

You may remember my review of this cleanser in late summer ( if not, you can see it here ) and how fantastic this cleanser was for my skin. It’s literally like an updated, more all-natural Noxzema type cleansing creme that softens, detoxes, and rejuvenates the skin. It has a nice minty feel about it, though it’s likely from the eucalyptus in the formula. It has loads of natural essential oils and extracts in the formulation so it will certainly benefit your skin over time, especially if you have issues with acne and the like.

A very special thanks to Liz Earle for donating this product for today’s giveaway and working with me and my blog – it means a lot to me.

I’m soo happy to share this awesome face mask with you today!

I’ve been wanting to try it for ages and only recently did I get my hands on one to test out.

First off, I just want to say I think those with super sensitive skin should steer clear of this one. It’s pretty intense as a skin treatment mask, but if you can hack it, it’s a seriously great face mask that will give you the results you want in very little time.

I find it seems especially effective for me now and that may be because, in winter, my skin is drier and has a tendency towards dullness, but this is just the perfect pick-me-up my skin needs to look it’s best!

Formulated with 15% glycolic acid, rose and lavender oils, honey, and wheatgerm oil, this face mask works quickly to slough off dead skin cells, encourage cell turnover, and infuse the skin with antioxidants and hydration all at once.

I love how super effective this mask is without taking too much of my day away.

All you do is apply a thin layer over the face and neck area, leave on for no longer than 10 minutes, and rinse off with warm water.

You definitely get the sense that this mask is working while you wear it as it has the awesome tingling factor, but it also shows an immediate difference when you rinse the mask off as well.

It’s important to mention that you really only need to use this mask once a week. It’s that potent of a treatment that any more might be too much for your skin and cause irritation instead of good. That’s not because the mask is harmful, it’s just very concentrated so use it sparingly and wisely.

Although this mask is pretty pricey, it’s well worth it in the results it gives you, in my opinion.

You can find it on Alpha-H.com or otherwise, Beauty Bay carries Alpha-H products as well and always has great deals and offers free worldwide shipping!

Find it on Beauty Bay – here.

Lust List: Fawn-Worthy Items for Fall 2012

As fall quickly approaches, I find myself browsing around online to find the best beauty products to take my hair, skin, and body into the next season gracefully, especially since season changes tend to throw my body a bit out of balance. Therefore, I really like to look for products that are a bit more nourishing than the light summer ones I’ve been using as well as some fuller coverage makeup which I can actually get away with wearing in the winter. Aside from that, I’ve found some new products as well that just seem like they would be great to try!

Check out my latest in beauty lust below!

SHAMPOO ALMOND & LINESEED 250ml

Korres Almond & Linseed Shampoo for Dry / Damaged Hair; € 12,50

With all the Summer sun, heat, and humity, my hair has taken a literal beating. It looks constantly frazzled, tangled and feels brittle and prone to breakage more than usual. It also feels a lot more fine than normal due to the dryness, despite having a lot of hair so I really want some hair products that nourish and rejuvenate my locks in a natural way.

MASK ALMOND & LINESEED 125ml

Korres Almond & Linseed Nourishing Hair Mask for Dry Hair; € 14,50

Goldfaden Revolution Eye Serum; $80

I can only use eye gels and super light eye creams during the Summer so I look forward to Winter because I can get away with a lot more for my skin and use more hydrating and nourishing serums, especially under my eyes. This one includes a short list of ingredients, all naturally derived to improve the eye are by brightening, firming and calming.

POMEGRANATE FOUNDATION PF1

Korres Pomegranate Foundation; € 29,30

I’m not really sure why we don’t seem to have this in the USA, but I’d gladly import it! It utilizes pomegranate and other natural ingredients to give the skin a natural medium and matte coverage. I really love Korres, but I haven’t seen any makeup that would suit my skin type as of yet. I didn’t even know they offered this until I discovered it on their site, but now it’s on my list!

Travel Set

Living Nature Body & Hair Essentials Kit; $34

Ever since I tried their Skin Essentials Kit & Radiance Night Oil (see reviews here), I’ve been dying to experience their other products to see if they are wonderful as well! Given that they utilize rare ingredients found only in New Zealand, I’m super curious to try them out and see!

Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream; $48

I was super excited when I discovered this one on SkinStore.Com because it’s combining several loves all at once – natural ingredients, BB creams, & custom shades! Also, don’t write this off if you’re a bit on the darker side, they actually offer this BB in quite a few shades so even if you’re on the tanner side of things, you might be able to find a shade that suits you!

10ml

Living Nature Soothing Manuka Honey Gel; $22

FEI’D Hyper-pigmentation Serum; $60

I have been hearing about this one for awhile so I think it’s new. It’s supposed to help fade scars and discoloration using natural licorice, mulberry and bearberry as well as other Chinese herbs instead of the harsh kojic acid or hydroquinone.

Skin Rescue Shower Gelee

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Shower Gelee; $14.99

If you’ve been here since the inception of this blog, you might know about my love turned obsession with all things Max Green Alchemy! If not, check out my reviews for the Skin Rescue Cream, their Scalp Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner, and the Elemeni Face Oil to see how awesome they are!

23237-300.jpg

Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Mask; $64

Living Nature Concealer; $30

You may have read my review on the Neutrogena Concealer (if not, see here). Ever since I discovered how awesome that one is, I really have been searching for a more natural replacement because, as much as I love the formula, I want something that will be a little kinder to my skin, especially under my eyes where the first signs of aging show up!

Korres - Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara

Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara; $20

Now available at Sephora, this mascara by Korres looks amazing! I’m always on the lookout for more natural eye products because anything you put near your eyes should be as natural and gentle as possible. That being said, I still haven’t found anything that beats the magic that is Diorshow Extase Mascara (see my review for it here).

Age Delay Cleansing Oil

Alpha-H Age Delay Cleansing Oil; $49.95 AUD

Again, if you’ve been following for awhile, you may know about my newfound devotion to Alpha-H (if not, check out my reviews here). I’m also currently testing out the Liquid Gold (OMG!) which I am loving and which deserves it’s own post. 😉 Anyway, I discovered this new cleansing oil from Alpha-H while browsing their site and it looks pretty lovely as it includes rose hip and tangerine in the formula.

Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil; $9.99

This looks amazing for fall and winter bath treatments! Especially since I recently began doing Insanity, I find myself wanting to take baths more to soothe sore muscles and this seems like just the thing to keep my skin hydrated and my muscles and mind relaxed.

94 LIGHT GREY

Korres Myrrh & Oligoelements Nail Colour in Light Grey; € 8,00

I didn’t even know they carried nail colours, did you?

This one looks really lovely for fall and I was reading that all of their nail colours include natural ingredients that boost hydration, are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal, and that increase keratin levels and keep nails healthy instead of normal polishes which tend to make nails brittle and dry.

i Profumi di Firenze – Arancio di Sicilia; $99

Ever since sampling the Plenilunio scent (see review here), I have been eyeing all the others! This one is especially desirable because my last name is Sicilia and I’m Italian and well, I want it! So there. 🙂

So that’s all so far on my Fall Lust List, what’s on yours?

Check out this past month’s favorites!

Have you tried any of these amazing products yet?

If not, definitely click the links to read my reviews and pick some of these lovelies up!

1. Dairyface Nourishing Facial Refreshers – I have been loving these NFR’s from Dairyface! They are seriously fantastic for rejuvenating all skin types from dry to oily to sensitive. With their high content of fats, proteins, vitamins and lactic acid, they gentle exfoliate the skin, calm irritation and breakouts, and help with skin turnover. They are as natural as you can get which is why they have to be refrigerated, but that also makes them super cold and refreshing to wear on your face. I highly recommend everyone try these at least once! They have become a staple in my face mask collection of rescue products for when my skin is out of whack.

2. Original Konjac Sponge – This is so fantastic for people with sensitive skin. Though anyone will benefit from using these, those will sensitive and acne prone skin types will especially see benefits as these sponges are really gentle exfoliators and skin cleansers. For anyone who can’t use facial cleansing brushes like Clarisonic, this is a more gentle option. Plus, it’s simple, soap free, and eco friendly! I’ll be stocking up on these in the future!

3. Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm with Muslin Cloth – This is by far my favorite cleansing balm. It’s so gentle and nourishing to the skin. It works really well to cleanse and balance the skin without stripping it. I love to use it by itself as a facial massage cleansing balm or, for added benefits, with the muslin cloth which helps to exfoliate gently while cleansing. If you have particularly oily skin, you may be able to use this and forgo moisturizer. Definitely a new staple in my beauty collection!

4. Shaun T’s Insanity Workout – I know this isn’t technically a beauty product, but it certainly has helped improve all areas of my life including my body (5 pounds lost in the first week!), my mind (less stress = better skin), shinier hair, and more energy. I definitely feel that health has a lot to do with looking beautiful and feeling great and fitness is a great component of the health and beauty factors in your life so remember to not neglect it. Your body and skin will certainly thank you!

5. Karen Murrell Lipsticks – I’ve been raving about these lippies all month long! They are lovely to use – creamy, matte-ish finish without looking dry or cakey, moisturizing, subtle cinnamon scent, and made with seriously eco friendly and natural ingredients!

6 Erbaviva Rejuvenating Hand Cream – This hand cream has become a staple in my purse. It’s seriously hydrating, softening and brightening to my hands and I’ve seen a big improvement in the overall hydrated look and feel of my hands since I’ve begun to use this in the past month. My hands look younger – hydrated and soft as opposed to my previous dry, tight feeling hands of the past.

What are your favorites for August?

A Glowing Complexion Made Easy: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser!

It may interest you to know that my very first face wash EVER was Noxzema’s Deep Cleansing Cream…and a quick search tells me they actually still exist with now updated packaging. If you’re not familiar, Noxzema is a cream cleanser (circa 1997) that comes in a blue jar and smells strongly of Eucalyptus I was pretty religious about using it, too, because I was like 8 and it felt all minty and cooling and grown up. Little did I know, Noxzema didn’t have the most natural formula then ( no idea what it’s like now, maybe I should do a retro review?) and so I’ve since moved on to more natural formulas.

That being said, there’s always been a super special place in my heart for Noxzema because it was the first cleanser I ever used that felt adult like and so when I had the chance to try the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, imagine my absolute surprise and joy when I discovered, holy double crap (cheesy expression compliments of 50 shades of crap), this cleanser is EXACTLY like a natural version of Noxzema!!

Okay, yeah I got excited. Like, I had to run and tell my boyfriend who had little to no reaction, but the point is, this cleanser is AMAZING. It’s SO creamy and smells medicinally therapeutic, similar to the eucalyptus scent I know from my early super naive and “ignorant of beauty” years, only with much more natural ingredients such as rosemary, eucalyptus (!), chamomile and cocoa butter.

To use this, you apply one pump’s worth of cream to a dry face, all over, including over your lips and eyes, though please don’t eat it, inhale it, and yes, close your eyes. Although, my super clumsy self did get it in my eye once and it actually wasn’t that bad. Anyhow, so you massage this cream over your entire face and neck and it takes EVERYTHING off. All your makeup, dirt, debris, that little bit of ketchup (or catsup?) you had sticking to your cheek that nobody bothered to tell you was there. Then, once you’ve slathered this on, you soak the muslin cloth (which comes with the cleanser) in hand hot water and lightly wring it out and use small sections of it to gently polish the cleanser off your skin. Using circular motions works best and once you’ve done your entire face, simply rinse the cloth and hang dry, splash some cold water on your face, pat dry and you’re done! It’s so super easy and I really like that it combines 2 steps – cleansing + exfoliating – in one. I used this pretty much every evening for about 3 weeks with really great effects – little to no break outs, smoother and softer skin, a seriously natural glow, less visible pores, and more hydrated skin because it was able to absorb more after a proper cleansing. That aside, the scent of this cleanser is so soothing and relaxing, very gentle and calming that it’s perfect for right before bed.

I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. It’s such a simple way to cleanse that is not only easy, but also really effective and gentle. For those of you that can’t afford a clarisonic or one of the fancy cleansing brushes, this is a nice alternative that, in my honest opinion, works just as well. In some instances, especially for those like myself who have sensitive or acne prone skin, I would say this even works better because there’s really no irritation involved. Since you control the muslin cloth, it’s up to you the amount of pressure you want to put on your skin so be gentle and you will be rewarded with a clearer, softer and more youthful glowing complexion. For those of you in the UK, you should be able to find this at Fenwick stores, John Lewis stores, a number of Boutiques in or around London, or on QVC UK.
