Today’s post is focused on how to get you the best skin possible without using products. I definitely think products can help skin out, but getting nice dewy and healthy skin, in my opinion, is easiest to create when following a healthy diet, utilizing a few beauty tips and DIY recipes. You’ll be surprised at how effective some of these really are. so without further delay, here are some tips on how to get flawless skin naturally.

EAT HYDRATING FOODS FOR GLOWING SKIN

Achieving glowing skin can seem impossible at times, and yes you can always fake it with makeup, but to get authentically glowing skin, I highly recommend a diet high in fruits and veggies, especially berries. They have very high concentrations of antioxidants, help keep your body hydrated (which in turn, hydrates your skin), and they are high in vitamins and nutrients essential to repairing and maintaining healthy skin. To learn more about the benefits of berries for your skin, check out the original post I did on this here. Aside from berries, there are a ton of hydrating foods you can consume to up the hydration of your cells and therefore your skin. Check out a list I’ve made of these foods – here.

DIY TONERS TO CALM REDNESS & INFLAMMATION

I used to think I needed some kind of magical product to fix my skin, but after much experimentation, I find that a nice DIY recipe works just as well, if not better, and I am left with a lot more cash in my pocket at the end of it all. One thing that I definitely deal with a lot, especially in the Summer time, is redness. The most effective treatment for this, by far, are toners and you can make a number of them with ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Check out the DIY toner recipes – here.

SUPPLEMENT FOR GREAT SKIN

Although we can do everything right, including eat well, sometimes I think it’s still pretty difficult to get all the nutrients our skin and body need to function at optimal levels. Because of this, I think supplements can be very beneficial to our systems, especially in resolving skin problems such as acne, dry skin, redness, and other issues. For a list of essential supplements for beauty and health, check here. There are many benefits to be gained from taking supplements, especially for preventing premature aging and treating existing issues. To see the beauty benefits of vitamins, check here.

PLANT OILS IN SKINCARE

You’re probably really familiar with the idea of using plant oils in skincare as many brands have begun to utilize these in their product formulations, but did you know that they can be just as beneficial used on their own? Some of you may still be wary of using oil on your skin, but don’t be. Choosing the right oil for you skin type, which you can do – here – is all you need to find the perfect plant oil that will benefit you the most. There are tons to choose from for any skin type from dry to sensitive to oily. To learn more about using oil in skincare, check out this post and if you’re unsure about how to use natural plant oils for the best results, you can get more information in this post that will help you.

What Are Some Simple Tricks or DIY Recipes You Use At Home To Treat Your Skin?

I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

♥ Tianna

Marie's Original Poison Ivy Oak SoapI trialed this a few months ago, but I just hadn’t had time to post on it until now.

Personally, when I was first sent this soap a few months ago, I thought, What do I need this for? as I obviously don’t have poison oak or poison ivy and felt I had no need for it, nor could I properly test it, but after using it for over a month, I’ve decided I really do like this soap as it actually helps calm skin irritations as well.

I’ve written a bit about my own skin issues and I occasionally get really itchy, dry skin, especially in the winter months due to the climate change and more extreme weather and I’ve found that this soap really does help calm the irritation. It’s formula includes oatmeal which has been known to aid in calming skin irritations such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis and you can even see the little pieces of oatmeal as you use it. What I like about that is that it offers some very mild exfoliation while calming and healing the skin with sassafras, white willow, noni, olive oil, and green clay. This soap is meant to treat poison ivy/oak as well as minor skin rashes and irritations and I truly think it works. Not only is it effective, but it’s also super affordable – you can get 1 bar of this awesome soap for only $7.99!

You can find out more about how this soap is made and how it helps to treat poison ivy and other skin irritations – here.

You can purchase the soap itself – here.

Have you ever had poison ivy / oak / sumac?

Hi Loves – Today’s Best Of 2012 post will focus on the top body care products I’ve discovered this past year. They are the cream of the crop amid all the massive amounts of product testing that I’ve done all year long so I hope it’s helpful for new product ideas and even some DIY beauty fun!

First in the list is the Aromatic Seaweed Body Wash by Astara Skincare. This body wash is fantastic for hydration and it’s very gentle so it won’t irritate even the most sensitive skin types. It’s formulation includes a sulfate free base of aloe vera, sea kelp and essential oils for a completely calming shower experience. I feel like the scent is super subtle and non-offensive while the wash itself is cleansing, but not drying and it actually helped calm irritation down while replenishing moisture, yet not being greasy. I definitely think that’s a hard medium to find in a body wash as I’ve had them be either too oily and difficult to rinse off or to stripping of the skin. This one is just right and will work well for just about anyone, in my opinion.

You can see my original review of this body wash – here.

The second in the list might surprise you because it’s not a particular brand’s product, but a DIY sugar scrub recipe I came up with last Spring. I’ve tried loads of body scrubs and polishes and nothing comes close to the awesome effects of this recipe for my skin. I find it’s both hydrating and gently exfoliating while also cleansing and brightening to my skin and I’ve done it all for like under $10 or something. It includes a formula of brown sugar, olive oil, and vodka or sake. You can also add in natural extracts and fruit powders for added benefits, if you have the or want to, and that’s all the better. You can check out my full post on how to make this scrub here.

The next product on this list is one of my absolute favorite body moisturizers ( if not my #1 favorite) because it is SO hydrating, calming and non oily. It absorbs into the skin pretty instantly, you need very little and it goes a long way, it smells fantastic but not overwhelming, and it can treat even the most sensitive skins such as those suffering from rosacea, dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema. It’s formulation is unique in that it includes both wild crafted and organic ingredients of 100% plant oils, it’s steroid free (for those looking for a treatment for a skin concern), cruelty free, and totally effective without any of the nasties included in most treatment type creams. If you have flakiness, extreme dryness or any skin concern, this is THE cream for you. IT WORKS. Check out my original review on this cream here.

The last product in this list is a bit of a cosmetic one, but nonetheless awesome. It is the Tan Organic Sunless Tanning Spray and not only does this tanner give my skin the most natural looking tan I’ve ever had (as far as tanners go obviously), but it does so with natural and organic ingredients. It’s won several awards in Ireland (where it’s made) for it’s effectiveness and formula and it is lovely for those of you are seeking a natural looking tan for your skin without the harm. Definitely recommend this to you if you’re into tanning. You can see my original review on this here.

Echium BioRejuvenate Eye Cream

I have had a really difficult time find the right eye cream for my sensitive under eyes. For some reason, a lot of them end up being too heavy for my under eyes and break me out, but the inner corners of my eyes are often dry and do still need some hydration. Because of the fickleness of my eye area, I’ve actually avoided eye creams for the most part altogether and it wasn’t until I read about Pai Skincare on a blog that I decided to try their Echium BioRejuvenate Eye Cream and it has been a godsend! Not only does it hydrate the entire eye area and help smooth fine lines, but it also helps broken capillaries (the little dots you get on the eye area from putting too much pressure or rubbing on them) which is something I haven’t seen from any other eye cream out there. Pai is certified organic by the UK Soil Association, Vegan, Cruelty Free and made especially for those with sensitive skin in mind. This is definitely a must-have for me in my skincare routine and I highly recommend it to anyone with eye care concerns such as dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and broken capillaries. You will see improvement with this!

Let me know in the comments below!

I just got this in my email and I’m so excited!

It seems like it’s been too long since I’ve had a chance to purchase from JB what with work, product reviews, and all that madness and I can’t think of a better time to purchase some of my favorites!

My favorite face wash from them – the JB Organic Face Wash, which I reviewed here, is likely one I’d pick up again. Some other favorites include their Blemish Clearing Serum (not sure why I haven’t done a review of this one!),  Blemish Clearing Cleanser, Green Apple Peel (Full Strength), Soothing Serum, Oil Free Moisturizer & their Organic Facial Rejuvenating Mask Their Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer is good for dry- combination to dry skin types. Their Green Apple Firming Body Moisturizer is also really good! I’ll have to make a mental note to do reviews on all of these or let me know if you want them reviewed!

Get Glowing, Youthful, and Hydrated Skin with Intrinsic Organics + GIVEAWAY!

So I recently discovered Intrinsic Organics, a natural, organic and handmade line of skincare and body care products. I was sent the following products and I am officially a convert of all three of them, especially the body lotion! The first item I was able to try was the Almond and Oatmeal Sugar Body Scrub. This feels lovely scrub is gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin, but gets some great scrubbing action so that it actually is effective for body exfoliation. It smells just like almonds and oatmeal and sugar (not surprisingly), which I love, because I find it really delicious! There are no oatmeal pieces in the scrub that I could see, even though I expected there to be for some odd reason. Instead, there are sugar granules and pieces and a strong almond scent that I really like. This works really nicely to exfoliate dead skin cells off your body without feeling too abrasive, hydrates the skin and smells lovely. The only drawback of this was that ants seemed to really like it as well so it attracted a decent amount of them all around the jar (though thankfully not inside it!). So, just as a hazard or warning, if you have any hint of a tendency toward ants in the Summer, you may want to hold off on getting this til winter, otherwise, I recommend storing it in the refrigerator when you aren’t using it. The fridge bit does make the scrub even more pleasant!

The second product I was able to try was the Hydrating Bergamot Blend Body Lotion, which is seriously one of the best lotions I’ve ever encountered. This doesn’t have the soothing feel of my favorite Skin Rescue Cream, but what it does have is the impressive ability to really hydrate the skin. If your issue is not with irritation, but with combating dryness, this would certainly benefit you. It feels like a cross between a creamy cream lotion and an oil type runnier lotion, but it really doesn’t feel oily or greasy at all. It’s a bit hard to explain the texture of this suffice to say that it works, it really does. It soaks in right away and just leaves the skin looking more nourished and glowing. I absolutely love this and will definitely purchase once I run out of the sample.

The last item I was able to try was the Chocolate Mint Chapstick Lip Balm. This is a really nice lip product! It doesn’t have a tint or anything, but the hydrating abilities of this are similar to the lotion in that it just melts into the lips without being too oily or greasy. It just feels lovely on the lips and very softening. I’m normally not a fan of chocolate type lip products, but this wasn’t so overwhelmingly chocolate that it bothered. Actually, I hardly notice the chocolate mint except in scent alone; the mint I do feel a bit because this is a little cooling on the lips, but mostly just super moisturizing and awesome to use.
