I ♥ Spring Tag!

  1. Favourite spring nail polish? I don’t really have a solid favorite for all time, but my current is favorite is Tropicana Nights by Karma Organic Spa & You can see my review for it – here.
  2. What is your must-have lip colour this spring? My must-have lip color for Spring is Coral Dawn by Karen Murrell. I really love KM lipsticks for a number of reasons – they’re eco and completely biodegradable, 100% natural, and the colors are very beautiful and pigmented. Plus, they smell like cinnamon! You can see a bunch of her amazing lipstick colors – here.
  3. Show us your favourite spring dress! Hmm.. I don’t actually have one really, but this one is nice!
  4. What’s your favourite flower? My favorite flower used to be roses, but these days I really love dandelions and orchids.
  5. Favourite spring scarf/accessory? My favorite Spring accessory is probably my Coral Dawn lipstick by KM. I always feel like a nice lip color really brightens up your face.
  6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Make-up, fashion or both!)
  7. Favourite spring candle? I really like this one by EkoMiko Candles. It smells really floral and lovely; plus it’s very eco friendly and natural!
  8. Favourite body spray/perfume for spring? My favorite fragrance for Spring is the Parfums de Nicolai in L’eau a La Folie which I recently got for my birthday! It smells like coconut, vanilla and lime which feels very Spring/Summer to me! It really evolves as you wear it and smells light, but pleasant.
  9. What is spring like where you live? It’s pretty much either rainy and cool or on the hotter side of things. Living in Cali, you’ll find that the weather is really bi-polar here. It can be super hot one day and then ridiculously cold and rainy the next and it’s pretty much like that year round.
  10. What’s your favourite thing about spring? My favorite thing about spring is that we enjoy mostly warm days, but it’s not so hot that it’s miserable yet. Yay! Also, we get some nice Spring showers occasionally which I really enjoy. I also really love all the colors in fashion during this season.
  11.  Are you a spring cleaner? YES! It takes me forever to get around to doing it, but once it’s done, everything is super clean and I feel super accomplished!
  12. Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation? Nope not really. I’d like to visit Georgia, but we will see how that goes. I’m trying to pay off debt so that really cuts into my spending for trips and things, but eventually I will go to all the places I’d like to go and it shall be awesome!

I tag anyone who would like to do this Spring tag and please link your posts in the comments!

Otherwise, what’s your favorite part about Spring?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

10 Styles I’m Ready to Rock for Spring!

I’m not huge on fashion trends.

It’s not that I don’t like fashion because I love fashion; I just prefer to do it my way instead of following the trends of the runways or whichever. I feel like some of the trends are super unrealistic for everyday wear and then some only look good on certain body types (usually stick thin) and hence wouldn’t even look right if I tried them. For this reason, I always seem to be on my own strange, yet awesome trend schedule and that’s fine with me because I like having a unique style and I don’t mind standing out a bit.  After all, variety is the spice of life and you should have fun being who you are, whether that means following a trend or not.  Just make sure you have fun and that it’s a style or look that you really like and feel confident in. That’s not to say I never like things that are on trend because I usually like a lot of them. I’m just saying I don’t really care if I follow them to a T one way or the other.

With that, here are some styles I’m excited about this coming Spring & Summer that may or may not be on trend 😉

The Ballerina Look

Uploaded by Coco Blanchard via Pinterest

I’ve always felt like ballerinas have an ethereal grace about them in the way they can control their bodies, but also in the outfits they wear. From tutus to leotards to less conventional styles, there’s just something really classic and beautiful about mixing classic ballet pointe shoes with anything, really.

Chloé Ballerina Flats - Masha Dancer

Chloé Ballerina Flats – Masha Dancer

Take these ballerina flats by Chloé. They’re super fashionable and wearable for us who aren’t actual ballerinas, but they still have that awesome look to them. It reminds me of when I was in high school – I had these black ballerina flats that I’d gotten at Nordstroms. I don’t even remember who made them at this point, but they had ribbon lacing all the way up the ankle and they made me feel so light footed and lovely all the time. *Sigh* Those are some shoes I literally wore into the ground until my mom threw them out because they were falling apart so badly.

Brightly Colored Clothing & Accessories

Cambridge Satchel Company Exclusive to Asos 11″ Coral Fluro Leather Satchel

I’m really loving bright Springy colors at the moment. I know that’s pretty on trend which is cool!

I actually first spotted this awesome Cambridge Satchel over on Minnie Mélange, only I prefer it in the coral color as opposed to the cool green color she picked up.

Image 1 of TFNC Swing Dress in Jewelled Crochet

TFNC Swing Dress in Jewelled Crochet – ASOS

I’m loving really flowy material for Spring and I always love lace type tops and dresses, but I’d love this dress even more with a brightly colored pink skinny belt or something to make it a bit more bright.

SURRENDER BOW PLATFORMS – TopShop

Brightly colored platforms are a fantastic way to add color to otherwise basic looking outfits that include a lot of black, beige or white and I really love these bow platforms! They also come in a funky pink color as well.

Braids

I’ve always loved braids, but with this season and the amount of never ending ways people have recently come out with just astounds and enthralls me. From fishtails to milkmaid style braids, I just find them all so lovely and there are tons of fantastic blogger tutorials online to learn how to do them all!

Crisp Spring Nail Designs

Hannah Miller from Instagram via Pinterest

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know how nail inferior I am, but ever since I’ve joined Pinterest and seen how amazing some of these nail designs are, I can’t help but get inspired to try some of them myself.

From salt manicures to these incredible jeweled ones, chevron designs, and other variations of the french manicure, it looks so fun and creative! I must admit that since starting this blog and discovering nail art, I have become a bit more ambitious when it comes to painting my nails and doing designs on them. Not saying I can do any of it or do any of it well, but I can try!

Colored Mascaras

Nvey Eco Volumising Mascara | Spirit Beauty Lounge

I’ve been some kind of obsessed with colored mascaras for the better part of 3 months now, especially the copper hued Macao from ILIA Beauty that I recently spotted at Beauty Habit {see it below}. This one from Nvey Eco also looks promising and comes in black, brown AND blue!  There are also some pretty amazing color options from Sephora and Make Up Forever as well.

A Natural Glow

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I’m not a huge fan of self tanner most days. When it looks awesome it looks really great, but for everyday looks, I just can’t be bothered to keep applying it without getting sloppy so I prefer a body oil or lotion with a bit of shimmer in it and May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil is perfect for that, especially in the Spring and Summer when it’s fun to have that slightly bronzed golden look! It smells heavenly { like chocolate! } and makes skin look naturally glowy and golden because it hydrates really well and includes shimmery mica in the formula. It’s definitely a holy grail body product for me as far as packaging, natural formula, and overall effect on the skin both superficially and beauty benefit wise. You can see my full review for it – here. If you absolutely prefer self tanner, a really great one is the one by TanOrganic and you can see my review for that – here.

Nudes, Pinks, & Nudey Pinks!

Pieces Heart Print Cami – ASOS

Even when it’s not Spring, I love nude and pink colored pieces because they just go with absolutely everything and they look super feminine and romantic which I really love, given my period film obsession. It’s just the ultimate chic, womanly look in my mind, I suppose.

Neons

Neon Yellow Power Play Blazer – Nasty Gal

Normally I really hate neon, but for some reason lately, I am loving neon yellow, blue, pink and some shades of green as long as they’re paired with grey, black, or white. It just goes, am I right?

Wedge Sneakers

Hilight Wedge Sneaker – Black – Nasty Gal

In spite of the fact that my boyfriend thinks I’m an absolute lunatic for loving them, I really love this whole platform/ wedge sneaker trend! Ironically enough, I had some platform sneakers way back in the day when I was like 10-11. I’m not sure where I got them, but I remember I thought I was so cool because the Spice Girls wore platform everything and I finally had my own! Shortly after, my little sister hijacked them so she could look taller and I’ve no idea what happened to them now, but just the idea that I could get that Spice Girl style back gets my heart pumping! Anyone else relate to this? No?

Swimwear

Image 4 of ASOS Caged Bow Back Swimsuit

Caged Bow Back Swimsuit – ASOS

The last thing I’m really excited for is swimwear because I feel like the swimsuits that have come out lately have been edgier and edgier and the cuts all look really fun and unique. The one above is one such style. Doesn’t it look cool?! The pieces tie in the back so it looks all bandage-esque. You know it’s a good day when one piece swimwear is looking pretty awesome as opposed to mom-like.

Dancing Mesh 2 Piece Suit – ECO Swimwear – Maaji Swimwear

I’ve actually never seen anything like the bathing suit above where the top is all loose fitting on top. It looks so comfortable and lounge-worthy which I really like about it. I think a lot of girls, especially plus ones want to wear these type of 2 piece suits, but without them hugging their body in an unflattering way. I love that this one is loose fitting because it can be flattering for many different body types.

Beach Bunny Swimwear – Time is Love Bikini – Orchid Boutique

This is another great style that’s really unique. It’s not as diverse as the others, but I really love the bead work and it’s perfect for those who get really tan in the summer because the color looks great against tan skin tones.

Malai Swimwear EXCLUSIVE – Gates of Chic One Piece Suit

I’m really happy that one piece bathing suits are getting less and less boring! This one has such a cool design on the back and I like having a nice one piece around for swimming as 2 piece suits just fall off when you’re trying to do laps. I’m just saying – a girl’s got to be practical!

Block Party Bikini – Nasty Gal

This last suit is a big trend for the spring and that’s color blocking. I don’t actually much like the color block trend in clothing as I think it looks a bit too 1985 for comfort, but I really like it here on this suit. It just works!

What Fashion Trends Are You Loving For Spring or Are You Making Up Your Own?

I’d Love to Know in the Comments!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are enjoying your week so far!

I apologize for my silence over the weekend – I’ve been finding that lately I need to unplug on weekends and just chill without being on the computer as I spent way too much time on it in December and think I may have burnt myself out a little bit. That being said, I’m really doing my best to get in more fitness than I did in December (little to none, other than massive amounts of holiday shopping walking around and cooking – does that count??) and get back on track with healthy eating and my goals for 2013. Isn’t everyone?

But anyhow, onto today’s post!

So, lately I’ve been super obsessed with all things velvet and I mean, I LOVE velvet on any given day, but somehow, in the winter time, that love goes up to obsessive levels and I just want everything in my closet to turn to velvet. Obviously I have yet to win the lottery so that hasn’t happened, but here’s a few of my favorite velvet pieces that I wanted to share with you all. I hope you all can incorporate some velvet into your lives as I think it’s such a feminine, soft, and romantic fabric for the winter (or you know, any time!). Also, it would be especially nice come Valentine’s Day – I’m just saying!

Velvet Peplum Jacket – NastyGal.com – via Pinterest

I really love the peplum style lately and this jacket is super chic because the fabric is layered, black goes with everything AND velvet will keep you nice and warm!

I recently saw this sales clerk at Forever 21 wearing burgundy velvet sneakers ( which, in hindsight, may have spurned this whole velvet fixation…) and I’ve been on a manhunt for a pair of my own ever since. These seem to be the closest thing to velvet sneakers that I can find and they are really cute! For some reason, there don’t seem to be a whole lot of options for velvet sneakers, though, which is strange because it’s 2013 and I just imagine we have everything.

Bathing Beauty One Piece in Blue Velvet by Esther Williams – ModCloth.com – via Pinterest

I’m not sure why there is a velvet bathing suit for sale, but hey, I’d rock it! Although, my boyfriend did mention that it might be unflattering once it gets wet, but what does he know?

Sophie Platform Pump – Black – NastyGal.com – via Pinterest

Aside from my velvet obsession, I also have a fixation on mary jane style shoes so the fact that this heel combines both is perfect!

Pinned Image

Heart to heart dress – pixiemarket.com – via Pinterest

I love the heart cut out in this dress! The design itself makes it a fantastic choice for Valentine’s Day or any other romantic day in your calendar. Personally, I’d be wearing this whenever and wherever I could get away with it, you know, because of the velvet 😛 .

Pinned Image

Esmeralda Boot – Green – NastyGal.com – via Pinterest

Other style fixations of mine include boots of all shapes and sizes and I love these because they are forest green and slip on (yes, I’m lazy!) so hoorah for that! I have been resolving to add more color to my wardrobe in 2013 and I think this would make a lovely addition.

Pinned Image

Blue Cocktail Dress – USTrendy.com – via Pinterest

I have one other minor fixation in fashion with all things lacey and mesh and since this dress combined lace mesh, velvet AND purple together, I just think it’s adorable.

Snow Palace Skater Dress by MINKPINK – threadsence.com – via Pinterest

There seem to be a limited number of colors where velvet is concerned, but I can count on classics to be included – red, black, and occasionally blue, green and purple. I love this classic red velvet dress with a modern twist. The cutouts are a really cute way to show some skin while still keeping your look classy and chic.

Cute Black Top – Velvet Top – Sleeveless Top – $34.00 – Lulus.com – via Pinterest

As I said, I also have a slight obsession with peplum tops at the moment and this top is just simple and adorable! I love that it’s black because it will work with tons of different looks and styles and helps to jazz up any simple look just a little bit more.

Otherwise, definitely follow me on Pinterest here.
