TONS of Naruko Skincare Samples: Speed Reviews

{All Naruko Skincare Samples were Provided for Review by Naruko USA}

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Naruko skincare. Their favorite products are the night jellies that they offer, but they also have various lines of skincare for different skin types, issues and concerns and I was lucky this past winter/ spring season to be able to test out a few of them for a few months.

Here’s a look at everything I received for review. Naruko has been super generous to me and I couldn’t be more grateful to have the opportunity to try more of their products because they are a brand that I would purchase from no matter what. If you’re unfamiliar with this brand, Naruko is a Taiwanese beauty brand that mainly offer a variety of skincare products for all your skin concerns including acne, dry skin, discoloration or pigmentation, and more. The brand is known for selling products that are naturally effective and include a variety of all natural ingredients combined with some scientific research to ensure the best results for your skin.

Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Cream

The first item I tested out was their Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Cream. It comes in an air tight plastic container which dispenses the perfect amount of cream out of a hole in it’s center when you press down on the top. It’s really sanitary and effective way to keep your cream clean as well as keep it from oxidation which will make ingredients less effective over time so I really like the packaging for it’s practical function. Aside from the packaging, this is a great cream for those with dry skin or combination skin who are dry in the winter or spring seasons. I got really super dry skin this past winter and this was a really nice cream to keep my skin from dehydration.

Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask

I absolutely love sheet masks! They are super easy to use, effective and very mess-free. They come in rectangle envelopes with face shaped cotton masks that are pre-soaked in the mask ingredients so you literally just pull them out, place them on your face and relax for 10-15. A lot of them don’t even need to be rinsed off, though you can if you’d prefer to. This one is super hydrating and softening.

Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Foaming Wash

This face wash was hit and miss for me. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the gratifying peeling that happened when I used it. It basically lathers up really nicely and when you massage it onto your skin, it starts to peel the dead skin off your face to reveal brighter skin beneath and you can literally see the skin coming off in little pieces. It’s not painful and there’s very little to no abrasion going on so it’s done more chemically than anything. It doesn’t feel like a face scrub much at all so, if you’re not into scrubs, this doesn’t feel like that. Instead, it just massages dead skin off your face and reveals new skin after. I really liked the peeling bit of this face wash, but as for treating dryness, it was not nearly as much hydration as I wanted and needed in a winter cleanser. I actually think face balms work much better for me than this, which I found to be brightening, but still a bit drying. It may work better for others, but for me, it didn’t hydrate enough. This might be great for those who battle oily skin, but also have dryness.

Tea Tree Oil Out Peeling Gel

This is another peeling type product that’s super fun to use. It does feel more like a scrub as it has tiny little beads in the formula, but they aren’t rough at all to use. To use this, you apply a small amount to skin and massage it around your face gently (avoiding eye area) for a minute or so. You will see small pieces of skin come off in the same way as the face wash and you need to rinse after using this to get all the little pieces completely off. I liked this better than the face wash, but it still didn’t hydrate my skin enough. I really just enough the scent of the Naruko tea tree products, to be honest. This is a great one for acne prone skin types.

Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Eye Gelly

This hydrating night eye jelly is perfect for under the eyes. It’s super thick and goopy feeling, but it will soak in completely within an hour so that does go away eventually. It really does hydrate the eye area and protect it nicely. It didn’t cause breakouts on my skin at all so that’s a great bonus for those who have dry under eyes, but experience eye sensitivity and acne, because it’s very hydrating without being heavy or causing irritation.

Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Gelly

Although this hasn’t taken the place of my favorite night jelly, it’s still a really lovely Night Jelly and it’s especially beneficial for dry skin types or those currently experiencing dryness. It has a really lovely, yet subtle rose scent and feels hydrating, but light on the skin.

AMPM Super Triple HA Skin Hydrator Seru

AMPM Super Triple HA Skin Hydrator

This very hydrating, yet light serum has a high concentration of B vitamins and hyaluronic acid to help hydrate, plump, and soothe skin. I really like how light this serum is, despite the fact that it’s very moisturizing. I think this is perfect for combination and oily skin types who have trouble finding serums that both hydrate the skin and are not super heavy. This is a great one for those who have trouble with heavier moisturizers, but still want a hydrating serum to use.

Facial White Illuminating Cotton Pads

The last item I received is this box of texturized cotton pads that are unique to Naruko. They are dual sided with one side being very smooth and one side being cross-hatched for gently buffing the skin. These are fantastic to use with facial toners or to remove makeup because the cross-hatched side really buffs the skin clean and gently exfoliates while the smooth side polishes and smooths the surface. I really saw a huge difference in my skin with using these alongside a toner and I definitely think they’re worth the little extra cost.

Overall, these products from Naruko, unsurprisingly, were really awesome. They all work really well at hydrating the skin and putting some life into otherwise dry skin cells. I definitely had an issue with dryness this past season and these products all helped a lot. I don’t think there was anything I really loved out of this bunch, but they’re all pretty solid as good skincare choices in my book. I don’t think I’d use them in the Summer time really as my skin can’t really handle it and prefers oils to lotions. I know that sounds weird and backward, but that’s how my skin is. If I had to pick favorites, I would choose the Night Eye Jelly, the Tea Tree Peeling Gel and the Cotton Pads, but these are all worth a look if hydration is what you need so definitely give them a look!

All-in-One Snail Repair Cream

All-in-One Snail Repair Cream – peachandlily.com

{Disclaimer – This cream was sent to me for review from PeachandLily.com}

This is going to sound bizarre to those of you who haven’t heard the latest Korean beauty craze.

That’s right, I’m talking snails.

Okay, not snails, but snail extract on your face.

{ I’ll give all you newbies a second to let that sink in… }

Yep.

Don’t you dare click away and let me cope with this weirdness on my own!

If you’re completely new to this Korean beauty craze, then let me enlighten you all to a whole new world of beautiful strangeness. The Korean beauty industry has recently released a host of creams from various brands featuring an odd new ingredient – you guessed it – snail mucus extract. According to those headlining this new beauty trend, they claim that the mucus from snails has the power to heal, rejuvenate and hydrate skin in a powerful way.

Anyway 🙂

So, it’s my very first “snail cream” beauty experience and, as much as I seriously hate admitting to it, it’s been awesome! First of all, I just want to clarify a bit for those of you who might think there is straight up snail mucus or ground up snail shell in this cream because that’s definitely not the case. It’s actually all very scientific. The cream simply includes a 92% concentration of “snail extract” which is from the mucus of snails (gross, at first look…), but is dried, purified and turned into a powdered extract before it ever gets near your finished cream so I suppose it’s not all bad once you get down to it.

Is it weird? Only when I think about it.

I was actually expecting this cream to have a bizarre scent or texture ( or maybe bits of snail residue in it ), but this cream is seriously nice and also, thankfully, pleasantly scented in an inoffensive way. In many ways, this cream feels much like any other when applied, though it is seriously hydrating without being heavy and sinks in near instantly. It does have a slight stickiness to it, but that goes away in 30 minutes or less after the cream sinks into the skin. Once it does, there’s no residue left behind or anything.

Once you get passed to fact that this includes snail mucus in the formula, it really is lovely. The cream itself comes in a very luxurious glass jar and a little bit of this cream goes quite a long way. Although it’s marketed as a repair cream for aging and things, I really think any skin type could use this safely, even sensitive and acne prone skin types. My advice is to exfoliate properly before applying this and to only use it at night as it may cause a bit of oiliness if you have oily to combination skin.

I’ve been using this cream for nearly a month now and I can honestly say it’s improved my overall skin texture, smoothed some fine lines, improved the hydration levels of my skin, and even diminished some acne scarring. I don’t think it does anything for acne, really, but it doesn’t exacerbate any existing blemishes nor does it cause any new ones so that’s a major plus for me when it comes to creams. I highly recommend this cream as one to consider if you’re new to this whole snail cream phenomena and you want to give it a go.

Nip+Fab CC Cream

I’ve never tried anything from Nip+Fab, but it seems to be pretty popular in the UK and I know CC creams are gaining a lot of steam. I don’t know that I’m necessarily into jumping on that bandwagon, but this one looks like it might be okay.

Anyone tried it?

Rouge Bunny Rouge XXX Lip Plump Gloss

Rouge Bunny Rouge XXX Lip Plump Gloss

Last year I tried a few RBR products, including their Bronzing Liquid, Blush Wand ( Titian ), and their Tinted Moisturizer (see those reviews – here) – all of which were really lovely and I’ve been curious to try their other products. This is a new plumping lip gloss they’ve recently come out with and I love the packaging. I know, I’m kind of shallow when it comes to cosmetics at times, but whatever.

Invisible Pores Detox Mask

REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask

 REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask

I have heard a TON of good things about REN Skincare, but haven’t tried it for myself. They have a lot of different lines within their brand for different skin types and concerns (sensitive, acne prone, etc) and this is a face mask meant for combination skin.

ISUN – Blackhead Solvent Oil

ISUN Skincare Blackhead Solvent Oil

I tried a bunch of mini samples from the ISUN line a few months ago ( you can see that post – here ) and really liked their natural skincare products so I thought this would be an interesting product to try given that I always have trouble getting rid of blackheads, especially on my nose. I like that they give step by step instructions on how to remove blackheads while using this oil.

Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

Although I don’t seem to have many wrinkles at this point in my life since I’m 23, I do like using anti-aging serums and creams anyway because I’m prepared like that, but often they tend to be on the heavy side. I love that this one is a retinoid serum because retinol seems to work really well on my combination skin and it is an ingredient that has a lot of benefits to its use from aiding in clearing acne to fine lines to hyper-pigmentation so I’m definitely interested in this as an all-in-one treatment serum!

Marvis – Amarelli Licorice Toothpaste

Marvis – Amarelli Licorice Toothpaste

I don’t know why, but I just think the idea of this toothpaste sounds so exotic and fun. I love the design of the tube and I also love that the formula includes licorice for cleansing teeth because licorice is actually an anti-inflammatory and would be beneficial for the entire mouth area, in my opinion.

Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil

Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil

I’ve seen SO many reviews on the REN Moroccan Rose Otto line of body products and they look absolutely lush! I love rose scented things when they are done right so I hope this line of one of those because I’m not a fan of that Grandma’s house potpourri scent at all. Lol.

ILIA – Mascara – Macao

ILIA Beauty – Mascara in Macao

Ever since I saw this on the Beauty Habit site a few weeks ago, I’ve been a bit obsessed with it and I really love ILIA Beauty in general (see my post on other ILIA Beauty products – here).  I just love the coppery color because it seems really unique and like it would brighten up the eye area a lot. I love deep black mascara, but I seem to be getting more into colors these days.

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer

Unfortunately, due to time constraints and my budget, I haven’t been able to try any Tarte products so far. I saw this the other day at Sephora and swatched it, though, and it does seem really lovely. You might know about my constant search for a good concealer that’s both hydrating, yet not oily, and this might be it. Plus, I’ve been really curious to try Tarte products for ages and this might be a good way to start!

Antonia Burrell – Cream Supreme Moisturizer

Antonia Burrell – Cream Supreme Moisturizer

Last summer, I first tried a mini sample of Antonia Burrell’s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil ( see that review – here ) and loved it. It is still my favorite cleansing oil to date and I’ll be purchasing a full size very soon, but I saw that they also carry this moisturize which seems like a great option for times when my skin gets a bit drier. Plus, this moisturizer is targeted at every skin problem you can think of from blackheads and acne to hyper-pigmentation and scarring. It’s expensive, but if it delivers as well as their cleansing oil, I think it’s definitely worth the price!

Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil

Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil

I spotted this on a recent trip to Sephora and was immediately enthralled. I think it would make a great body moisturizer and it has this lovely citrusy scent that’s really nice so I definitely want to try this one out! I love that it includes healing argan oil like many of the JM products do.

STEAMCREAM – Melody

STEAMCREAM – Melody

love Steamcream! Seriously. I recently ran out of the sample I received from them in Chagrin which I absolutely loved and was super depressed to find out they had discontinued it. Then I spotted this one on Beauty Habit and I love the design! It reminds me of Burberry and I just like that classic look a lot. Honestly, I’d buy all the Steamcreams if I could afford it. They’re just awesome. You can read my original SteamCream review – here.

Fresh Skincare Rose Face Mask

Fresh Skincare Rose Face Mask

I really like Fresh Skincare’s Soy line of products ( see my review for the Fresh Soy Cleanser – here ), but I’ve been yearning after this Rose Face Mask for ages. I am always swatching it at Sephora, but it’s so expensive ($50!) for a face mask that I don’t even know will be worth it. It smells amazing, just like cucumbers, but it has pieces of rose in it and looks a bit like tea or something. I will have it one day!

Liquid Gold Radiance

Liquid Gold Radiance Brightening Lotion

Liquid Gold Radiance Brightening Lotion

I’m a huge fan of Alpha-H products and you’ll know all about that if you’ve been following this blog for a small measure of time. They have super effective, awesome products. If this is all new to you, check out my original post on them – here. I’m not sure if this is a new Alpha-H product or maybe I just never noticed it before, but it sounds awesome! It’s meant to brighten skin (obviously) using their signature glycolic acid and also, in turn, help with diminishing the appearance of scarring and hyper-pigmentation. I don’t deal with a lot of scarring or brown spots, but I have a few and they bug. Maybe I’m neurotic (yep), but I’d like to treat that before it becomes an issue and who doesn’t like bright skin, right?

Christophe Robin – Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

Christophe Robin – Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

I saw this and just thought it looked like a really interesting product! It’s a scrub for your scalp and it’s meant to really cleanse. It’s meant for people who deal with itchy scalps or oily scalps a lot, but personally, I don’t deal with those issues much (unless it’s super hot out) and would likely use this as a weekly clarifying treatment instead of using a clarifying shampoo which I think can be stripping a lot of the time. I like that you massage it into the scalp because I think it would be helpful in hair growth, but that’s my own hypothesis, not a claim made by the company. Also, my boyfriend deals with an itchy oily scalp all the time so it might help him as well!

What Products Are You Looking To Try Lately or Loving That You Tried Recently?

Let Me Know in the Comments Below!

50ml

If you’ve been following a long, you’ll know about my love for the New Zealand beauty brand, Living Nature. If you’ve tried them yourself, you’ll know exactly why I love them so much because, not only are the ingredients upheld to the highest standards, but the products themselves are also quite effective in doing what they claim to.

This past December, I was lucky enough to receive this Nourishing Night Cream along with their Nourishing Hand & Body Cream
( see that review – here ) and Vitalising Cleanser ( see that review – here ) and have been testing it out since then ( for almost 2 months ). It has a similar texture to their Vitalising Cleanser, though obviously without being a cleanser. The cream is super hydrating and nourishing without feeling heavy or greasy at all. There’s no reside left behind on your skin as it totally absorbs within 5 minutes. I love the smell which is pleasant, yet not overwhelming. It carries the same scent that seem to be signature of most Living Nature products and which I’ve come to identify many of their products with which I really like. Their products certainly work synergistically, but will also be just as well when used with other brands. I love that this cream is hydrates so well without being overly greasy or leaving an oily residue behind because I have oily to combination skin so sometimes that kind of texture in a cream will make my skin breakout. Thankfully, this one is super gentle and effective. It hasn’t done much by way of wrinkles or maybe I just don’t have enough for it to show the difference notably, but it certainly helps heal broken capillaries around the eyes and nose and hydrates really well so it effectively calms redness, inflammation and dullness all in one go. The ingredients are effective, yet natural at the highest standard, and they really work to improve the skin noticeably. I highly recommend this for anyone who combats dryness, dullness, irritation, redness, inflammation, fine lines, and broken capillaries or scarring as I think these are the areas it’s been most effective in improving.

Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser Review

Over the winter break, I was sent some Living Nature products for review, including this lovely Nourishing Hand and Body Cream. I didn’t really think much of it, but after I ran out of the body lotion I was using in December, I quickly began using this one daily and I’ve really loved it!

It’s formulation includes various plant oils including macadamia and avocado as well as active manuka honey to lock moisture into the skin and nourish it from the inside out. What I really love about this lotion is that it’s super hydrating without being greasy or oily. I love using body oils and more intensive body treatments during the night, but this is the perfect thing to use during the day. It soaks into the skin immediately and so there’s no waiting around for everything to dry before getting dressed. The scent is really pleasant, but not overwhelming or too strong, just refreshing. I actually ran out of face moisturizer for a few days and was so desperate for hydration that I did (GASP!) use this once or twice on my face and ‘lo and behold – no breakouts! That being said, it might be a bit too hydrating in summer for oily to combination skin types, but dry skin types might like this as an all around useful cream and men may enjoy it for it’s multi-function as well, though the scent isn’t particularly masculine. I highly recommend this cream to anyone and everyone who needs hydration and balance for their skin as it will hydrate you, quite literally, all over.

Living Nature Skincare Essentials Kit Review

Living Nature Liquid Foundation Review

If you’ve been following for awhile, you’ll know all about my love for Living Nature products. I had first done a review on their Skin Essentials Kit which you can see here, if you care to, and loved their Vitalising Cleanser as much as the Summer as I have done now using it again in Winter time. This time, with a slightly larger bottle, I’ve been using the lovely Vitalising Cleanser for over a month and a half and really loving it all the more!

As with all Living Nature products, the Vitalising Cleanser is made with all natural, skin nourishing, and exotic ingredients native to New Zealand (where the brand comes from) and leaves out all the nasties such as parabens, preservatives, and other harmful ingredients. Instead, this cleanser features avocado oil, macadamia oil, active manuka honey, and various plant essential oils and extracts to nourish, calm and cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural oils.

It is recommended for normal to dry skin, but I think if you have combination skin, it may do you some good, especially in the winter, as this cleanser has really helped keep the chapped redness at bay for me. Especially in those typical spots where dry, chapped skin tends to show up like around the nose, this cleanser works wonders. Aside from it’s ability to calm and moisturize, it is great at cleansing the skin without that tight, dry feeling and brilliantly removes makeup without irritating. I can massage this right over my eyes, lips and entire face to remove my makeup and it does a great job at getting rid of every bit of it. If I really want a more intense clean, I find that using this cleanser with a clarisonic or a muslin cloth ( remove cleanser with cloth in warm to hand hot water ) really helps the benefits of this cleanser to be absorbed by the skin and helps the skin feel and look smoother and softer!

I highly recommend this cleanser as a perfect staple for those who deal with dryness and/or irritation and redness either during the Winter or at any time. It is just the thing to bring skin back to a calm, revitalized state.

Bestcleansers2012_StorybookApothecary.Com

I’m so thrilled to begin a new series of posts today for the next week or so on all my top picks in beauty – skincare, makeup, hair, nails, tools, and body care products for the year 2012!

I’ve done a ton of reviews this year and sorted through the crap to bring you all the best products with the most effective, natural ingredients in their formulations so I hope you enjoy this series and leave your thoughts in the comments along the way!

Today’s post is focusing on the best facial cleansers of 2012 and if you’ve been following along for any measure of time, you won’t be surprised at my picks which I’ve spoke about again and again and again because they are my go-to cleansers.

First in the list is Antonia Burrell’s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil which is fantastic for any skin type, but will do especially well for those suffering from congestion, dullness, acne breakouts, skin that feels both oily and dry, and just generally imbalanced skin. That is not to say that other skin types won’t benefit, though, because this cleansing oil is really lovely and includes lots of potent plant extracts and oils which work to heal the skin from the inside out. It truly works and you will see incredible improvements in your skin in very little time, especially if you’re battling skin issues. To see my original review on this cleansing oil, check here.

Second in the list is Suti Skincare’s CLEANSE Organic Balm which I have raved and raved about. This has certainly been another of my go to cleansers for when my skin is out of balance, especially when it just feels drier than usual or tighter than usual or if it’s feeling red and inflamed. This is the best thing to calm skin down! I really love it as a massage balm to cleanse skin, especially as an all-in-one cleanser + makeup remover because not only does it get the job done, but it leaves my skin super soft, clear and hydrated without a moisturizer. Also, since they include a natural muslin cloth with the cleanse balm, you get a bit of gentle exfoliation if you use the cloth to remove the balm and there’s no oily residue (for those who dislike that!). I’ve enjoyed this one both in Summer and Winter months with great success. I think those with sensitive, dry, and mature skin will really enjoy this one a lot, but I also think there can be some benefit to those with other skin types as well, especially if you’ve had issues with skin that just seems to be out of sorts. The ingredients in this are amazing, natural AND effective all at once. You can see my original review on this cleanse balm here.

Third on the list is another cleanser that I’ve just talked and talked about over and over again and that is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which is brilliant for oily, acne prone skin types! I think it will work for other skin types as well, though very sensitive and dry skin types may want to tread carefully as this includes a strong amount of acne fighting essential oils which may irritate or dry your skin depending on your skin type. For those who have oily, combination or acne prone skin, though, this one is absolutely amazing! It works a lot like my childhood favorite Noxzema (and smells like it too!) though with a host of natural ingredients instead of harmful ones to clear pores out, balance oil production, calm breakouts and redness, and mildly exfoliate all at the same time. It works much like an old fashioned cleansing creme because you use 1-2 pumps which you massage all over your face including on eyes and lips to remove all traces of makeup and dirt. Then, you rinse the cloth in warm to hand hot water and use it to buff the cream off of your face. It really softens the skin, clears out dead skin cells and pores, and helps to combat breakouts. I love this one as a staple, especially in the Summertime. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

Lastly, there is Living Nature’s Vitalising Cleanser which I really love for all skin types as it is gentle enough for even the most sensitive, but will also benefits those with oily, combination or dry skin as well. I think that someone with breakouts may also benefit, but depending on your skin, you may need something more cleansing. This is a great one for if your skin is irritated or just feels dry or dull as it’s very hydrating to use. It feels a bit like using a very moisturizing lotion on your skin and it smells wonderful all while gently cleansing and nourishing the skin. I think those with dry and sensitive skin will really see a lot of benefit with this one because of the botanical ingredients and hydrating oils in the formulation. Also, if you have any kind of damage on your skin, this one is lovely for healing gently without causing any irritation or being too abrasive. It’s just a lovely, calming, gentle cleanser and it works very well in the Winter especially when your skin needs more hydration and nourishment. Check out my original review on this cleanser here.

So, those are my picks for the best face cleansers of 2012 – What Are Yours?

Stay tuned all week for more of my top beauty picks for 2012!
