8 Beauty Picks for Earth Day

Troubled Skin Serum With Frankincense and Tamanu

Troubled Skin Serum With Frankincense and Tamanu

This Troubled Skin Serum from Rainwater Botanicals is one of my favorites for treating acne, but better yet is the fact that all Rainwater Botanicals products are super affordable (some are $10 or less), produced in the USA from organic and wild crafted ingredients, and they use recycled packaging and sustainable materials. They have loads of products that I love and you can learn more about them in a post I did here.

The Problem Solver Face Mask

The Problem Solver Mask by May Lindstrom is my favorite face mask to date and with good reason – it’s made with all natural ingredients including cacao, bamboo charcoal, and various natural minerals and clays so it literally comes from the earth. Also, all of the products by May Lindstrom come in reusable glass containers so there’s no plastic waste. Aside from the fact that it’s completely naturally formulated, this face mask works seriously well at clearing, calming, and toning the skin. It’s better than any mask I’ve tried yet. You can see my review for it here. Aside from this mask, they also have other fantastic products including The Good Stuff Radiance Oil which is amazing for getting that dewy glow look. You can see a post I did on how to use it here.

Karen Murrell lipsticks are some of the most sustainable lip products I’ve ever seen. They have some serious high standards set to them and they’ve really held up against them. The lipstick containers themselves and the packaging are all made with biodegradable, recycled or plant materials. The lipstick tube itself starts biodegrading back to the earth in 100 days which is something I’ve never heard of for any product let alone a lipstick. The lipsticks as products are not only extremely hydrating, but they smell amazing and have lovely, trendy colors that look great on any skin tone. I actually haven’t met a KM lippie I didn’t like. They are cruelty free, sustainable, locally sourced and traceable, ECOCERT, green house gas neutral, and made with all natural and organic ingredients. They are my favorite HG lipsticks. You can see the original post I did on them here.

Konjac Sponges are make facial cleansing simple, clean and green. They’re made from konjac, a kind of potato found in Japan, and various clays so they are entirely biodegradable. In fact, after a few months they actually begin to fall apart and literally degrade. They work really well to cleanse and soften skin without stripping it of it’s natural oils while also brightening, gently exfoliating and calming. Plus, they’re super cheap at only $9 each. You can see my original post on them here.

The Suti Cleanse Organic Balm is, hands down, the best cleansing balm I’ve ever tried. It’s super hydrating, cleansing, calming, and doesn’t clog pores. It comes with a muslin cloth so you can even use it to gently exfoliate skin without drying it out or irritating it. Made with all organic plant oils and butter, this balm can be used as a cleanser, moisturizer, face mask and exfoliant. The balm is made with a certified organic formula and comes in a reusable glass jar. You can see my original post on it here.

Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set

ECO Tools have some amazing brushes and they’re super sustainably made from bamboo and other sustainable materials. They work really well for applying makeup and even skincare products. I’ve used their smaller eye brushes to apply eye cream before and that works really well. Also, their shower gloves are amazing as well for body exfoliation.

Travel Set

Living Nature products are some of the best natural products I’ve tried. They offer a wide range of skincare and cosmetic products which are all really nice. They use exotic ingredients found in New Zealand and other naturally sustainable plant oils and extracts in order to soothe, hydrate and heal skin. I love how gentle their products are and they can definitely be used on any skin type, including sensitive. You can see my original post on their products here.

Antonia Burrell‘s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil is the best cleansing oil I’ve found for acne prone skin types, but it will definitely work well for any other skin type as well. It’s very gentle, calming and nourishing without being heavy. Aside from that, it comes in a reusable glass jar, is made from all natural and sustainable plant ingredients that actually work for skin without harming the environment.

What Are Your Top Eco Beauty Picks?

I’d love to know in the comments!

♥ Tianna

I get a lot of questions from readers asking me what cleansers would work best for their skin type so I thought I would post a few of my favorites that will work for one or more skin types so there are multiple options to choose from. I tried to keep everything on the affordable side, though some are more pricey. I hope you enjoy!

23148-300

Original Konjac Sponge; $9

ALL SKIN TYPES, EVEN SENSITIVE

This is a great one for all skin types! It’s super gentle, mildly exfoliating and non-irritating even for those with sensitive skin. You can even get these with different clays in them, if you like, depending on your skin type. Check those out here. This is a great cleansing tool + cleanser in one if you like to keep your routine simple, yet effective. Check out my review on this original sponge here!

Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm; £26.00

ALL SKIN TYPES, ESPECIALLY DRY, SENSITIVE, ACNE PRONE & ROSACEA TYPES

This is seriously one of my favorites! I think this could also work for any skin type as well. It’s a bit more on the expensive side of things, but it works incredibly well and is worth the price to me. If you have oily or combination to oily skin, you’ll want to use this with the muslin cloth to get more exfoliation and cleansing action, but if you’re more on the dry or sensitive side of things, you can simply massage this into your skin and rinse with warm water then pat dry. Check out my full review here.

Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser; 24.50

ALL SKIN TYPES EXCEPT DRY & HYPER-SENSITIVE TYPES

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR ACNE PRONE & OILY SKIN TYPES!

Another new favorite, this one is great for all skin types, though I don’t recommend it to anyone who has a sensitivity to essential oils or to someone with dry skin. This is really cleansing and creamy, but it’s not super nourishing so if you need that extra moisture, it’s better to go with the Suti CLEANSE, the AB Cleansing Oil or LN Vitalising Cleanser (see below). This one works especially well for those with combination to oily or oily skin and is really effective for those with clogged pores or acne. This gentle cleanse + exfoliate combo is great for clearing the skin. Check out my full review on this here.

100ml

Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser; $35

ALL SKIN TYPES, EXCEPT SUPER OILY TYPES.

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR DRY, SENSITIVE SKIN TYPES!

This is a really nourishing cleanser! It’s super gentle so it would be great for those with dry skin, sensitive skin or combination skin in the winter. I also find it’s nice to use when my combo to oily skin is looking particularly red or irritated because it helps to calm things down a lot. The scent in this is super subtle and there’s no sulfate or foaming; it actually just feels like a light, easily absorbed lotion only you rinse after. It leaves the skin feeling really soft and hydrated. See my full review here.

Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil; $102

ALL SKIN TYPES

If you’ve been following for awhile, you may know about my love for cleansing oils. If not, well, I love them! They are great for all skin types most of the time and they work so well at balancing the skin out, whether your problem is dryness, oiliness, clogged pores or redness. I love cleansing oils for when my skin is just completely out of whack and off balance. It’s a great way to balance everything out and calm any irritations. Plus, cleansing oils, a lot of the time, are easily absorbed into the skin and help to cleanse the skin without stripping anything from it. Also, they work well as an all-in-one type makeup remover and cleanser. Just be sure to do it 2x! See my full review for this cleansing oil here.

AMPM Wakeup Skin Smooth Washing Powder

NARUKO AMPM Wakeup Skin Smoothing Washing Powder; $14

OILY TO COMBINATION SKIN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH ACNE PRONE SKIN

NOT FOR DRY OR SENSITIVE TYPES

I love to use washing powders during hot, humid months when my skin is super oily and has a tendency to get congested. This is a great way to gently exfoliate the skin without being harsh while getting a good cleanse in. Plus, this one is only mildly foaming so it’s not as harsh as the OTC drugstore acne cleansers that can do more harm than good with their crap ingredients. This one includes rice powder and other ingredients to gently cleanse, smooth, and brighten the skin. See my full review on this here.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser; $15

ALL SKIN TYPES

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

GREAT FOR MAKEUP REMOVAL

This is an old favorite! It’s really great for any skin type, but it works especially well for those with sensitive skin or if you like to use a separate cleanser for makeup removal, this is a nice one. It smells really super fresh (actually true lol) – just like cucumbers. It’s very mild and more milky than foamy so it’s non-stripping to the skin. This is a really nice gel type textured cleanser and is great if you’re someone who doesn’t want to strip the skin of it’s natural oils, but also hates the oily feel of cleansing oils or balms. This one is a nice middle ground that will leave your skin cleansed, but not tight or dry. See my full review on this here.

Have you tried any of these amazing products yet?

If not, definitely click the links to read my reviews and pick some of these lovelies up!

1. Dairyface Nourishing Facial Refreshers – I have been loving these NFR’s from Dairyface! They are seriously fantastic for rejuvenating all skin types from dry to oily to sensitive. With their high content of fats, proteins, vitamins and lactic acid, they gentle exfoliate the skin, calm irritation and breakouts, and help with skin turnover. They are as natural as you can get which is why they have to be refrigerated, but that also makes them super cold and refreshing to wear on your face. I highly recommend everyone try these at least once! They have become a staple in my face mask collection of rescue products for when my skin is out of whack.

2. Original Konjac Sponge – This is so fantastic for people with sensitive skin. Though anyone will benefit from using these, those will sensitive and acne prone skin types will especially see benefits as these sponges are really gentle exfoliators and skin cleansers. For anyone who can’t use facial cleansing brushes like Clarisonic, this is a more gentle option. Plus, it’s simple, soap free, and eco friendly! I’ll be stocking up on these in the future!

3. Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm with Muslin Cloth – This is by far my favorite cleansing balm. It’s so gentle and nourishing to the skin. It works really well to cleanse and balance the skin without stripping it. I love to use it by itself as a facial massage cleansing balm or, for added benefits, with the muslin cloth which helps to exfoliate gently while cleansing. If you have particularly oily skin, you may be able to use this and forgo moisturizer. Definitely a new staple in my beauty collection!

4. Shaun T’s Insanity Workout – I know this isn’t technically a beauty product, but it certainly has helped improve all areas of my life including my body (5 pounds lost in the first week!), my mind (less stress = better skin), shinier hair, and more energy. I definitely feel that health has a lot to do with looking beautiful and feeling great and fitness is a great component of the health and beauty factors in your life so remember to not neglect it. Your body and skin will certainly thank you!

5. Karen Murrell Lipsticks – I’ve been raving about these lippies all month long! They are lovely to use – creamy, matte-ish finish without looking dry or cakey, moisturizing, subtle cinnamon scent, and made with seriously eco friendly and natural ingredients!

6 Erbaviva Rejuvenating Hand Cream – This hand cream has become a staple in my purse. It’s seriously hydrating, softening and brightening to my hands and I’ve seen a big improvement in the overall hydrated look and feel of my hands since I’ve begun to use this in the past month. My hands look younger – hydrated and soft as opposed to my previous dry, tight feeling hands of the past.

What are your favorites for August?

Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser Review

I received this sample from Organic Pharmacy a few weeks back and truly have loved it.

It features a host of organic and natural ingredients that are very beneficial to the skin including Rosemary, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Sunflower Oil, and many more.

I actually tried this sample a few weeks back, but I just have not had a chance to write about it until now.

I really loved this cleanser, if you can call it that.

I do think that it must have cleansed my skin quite well because it cleared breakouts and did not cause new ones.

The formula itself is very gentle and softening to the skin.

It moisturized my skin as well and left it feeling very hydrated, but it hardly feels like a cleanser should feel in conventional terms.

As you can see, this cleanser comes in a jar and looks very much like a cleansing balm type.

It melts into an oil when rubbed between your fingers and then you can apply it to your face.

It literally feels like you’re applying some kind of thick oil moisturizer to your face when you use it, but not in a bad way, at least not in my opinion.

Although it did feel sort of strange to apply this cleanser to my face, it did cleanse well and once I rinsed my face, it felt very balanced and hydrated.

It does not foam or milk or anything, though, so if that’s something you must have in a cleanser, this one may not be for you.

Also, if you are a hater of that “oily” feeling, you may want to avoid this, but if you can stand it, I definitely recommend you to give it a go.

Although the sample seems quite small, I was able to get about a week or so worth of use out of it.

I think any skin type could use this cleanser because it is really nourishing.

Drier skin types will need to follow with a moisturizer, but oilier skin types might be able to skip moisturizing altogether in the hotter months, if they like, because it is just that nourishing.

The only things I really don’t like about this hydrating cleanser are the price tag and the packaging.

Things that come in jars, unless they come with some sort of applicator tool, have a high rate of cross-contamination and bacteria spreading.

As much as I think it’s really beautiful, aesthetically, I just know it’s not very practical.

Also, this cleanser is very expensive, sitting firmly in the luxury skin care brand category, making it unlikely to be affordable to hardly anyone.

I think if you can afford it, then you should definitely try this out as it works very well.

It includes organic, natural, and top notch ingredients, but at nearly $64 USD, it is not realistically a plausible option for most.

I wish they sold smaller, more affordable sizes so their customer range could be more broad.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this unconventional cleanser and I really love the high quality organic ingredient list, but I cannot really justify the high price tag.

If you have cash to spare, definitely try this, if not, there are certainly more affordable organic options within your price range.
