eco BABY

When it’s so cloudy and cold out, we often times think that we don’t really need to apply sunscreen, but that couldn’t be further from the truth because, in fact, most sun damage and cancer causing rays penetrate through clouds and will still do a number on your skin if you don’t take the necessary steps to protect your skin from aging and pigmentation as well as skin cancer. So, with that being said, protect your skin and do it daily, not just at the beach, and onto my review! 😉

I’ve recently been testing out this new 100% natural sunscreen for the past month or so and I really like it thus far.

Previously, I had been using Vive Sana (for that review, check here), but I ran out of it and haven’t really had the time or money to re-purchase it. To be honest, I really like both of them and they both have their pros and cons.

First of all, the Eco Logical Skin Sunscreens are really lovely. Unlike most natural sunscreens, these aren’t overwhelmingly thick and actually spread really well. They take a minute or so to set into the skin and the white cast is not so glaringly obvious, but there’s none of the struggle I usually experience when using most naturally sunscreens. This one actually fades a bit once it’s massaged into the skin. As I said, you do have to let it sit for a minute and then the white cast fades out, but be careful not to over apply because then you will have a white cast. I did that the other day and it left too much white sunscreen cast in my brows. Ew. My B.

Eco Baby

Anyway, the formula has little to no scent and none of the chemically sunscreen smell I remember from my childhood (which I am hopelessly fond of due to nostalgia LOL). It’s really inoffensive and I think, for this reason, it would be fantastic for sensitive skin and babies. It also hasn’t made me break out at all which some sunscreens have done to me in the past and that’s certainly something I can appreciate.

Where this line of sunscreens really shine is in the hydration and spread-ability department because nearly all natural sunscreens I’ve tried have been seriously difficult to spread onto skin and even harder to blend. This one is really not at all difficult to apply. It spreads really easily onto skin and soaks in reasonably quickly, though the minimal white cast takes a minute or so to go away as long as you don’t over apply.

Also, these sunscreens are super hydrating to the skin because they include lots of beneficial plant oils including avocado and jojoba oil. The only thing I consider a somewhat con to these sunscreens is that they are not organic or GMO free and that’s kind of an important factor to some. If you want an organic sunscreen, check the link above to my Vive Sana review. If you just want the sunscreen to be 100% natural and made from beneficial ingredients, then this is a fantastic, solid line of sustainable and eco friendly sunscreens. They don’t include chemical sunscreens like conventional sun protection products, only a high concentration of zinc oxide (22%) . They are broad spectrum ( UVA / UVB ), water resistant, and are fragrance free and non-comedogenic ( will not clog pores ).

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil
Dry winter skin can really suck, especially when it’s coupled with irritation, redness, and flakiness, which is most of the time if not all. To keep my skin looking plump, hydrated and calm, I’ve taken to drawing up warm baths a few times a week and using this incredibly soothing bath oil by Max Green Alchemy – the Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil.

I’ve written a bit about Max Green Alchemy as I really love many, if not all, of their products. They are brilliant and made with organic, cruelty free, and wild crafted plant ingredients which seek to heal the skin from inside out and pretty much succeed in that effort, if you ask me. So, after reviewing this bath oil for about a month, it’s not really a surprise that I’d love this one too!

The scent of this bath oil is AMAZING and it really does soothe irritated and/or dry skin. The scent of it is exactly the same as their Skin Rescue Cream which I reviewed awhile back ( you can see that review – here ) and works just as well at calming skin inflammation as the cream, except without the added hydration you get from the cream. I get extremely dry skin come winter time and that dryness can easily turn into irritated, chapped skin which is not just horrible to look at, it can also be painful. This bath oil has helped me avoid that situation altogether and I am SO thankful!

Aside from being extremely effective at calming and hydrating skin, this bath oil is seriously relaxing. It smells incredible and the oil itself actually dissolves into the water rather than sitting on top of it like most oils do so it really envelops your skin in a cocoon of hydrating oil-infused bath water.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about this product ( and Max Green Alchemy products, in general ) is that fact that not only is this product effective, luxurious, and pleasant to use, but it also has an excellent ethical foundation to stand on. The ingredients are great, natural, cruelty free and the formulation leaves out typical nasties which can cause environmental or bodily harm so it’s really a product I can stand behind and I love that.

More Reasons to Love this Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil:

•” Pure organic botanic and essential oils calm, soothe and moisturize skin
• Supports the treatment of psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema
• Unique formula blends with bath water to infuse into skin
• Won’t leave nasty oil residue on the tub
• Steroid-free, paraben-free, petrochemical-free, GMO-free, lanolin-free, polysorbate-free, cruelty-free
• Enchanting non-medicinal aroma of organic chamomile and neroli
• Contains many certified organic ingredients
• 100% plant origin”

Today’s post is centering on my top hair care products of 2012 and this one is a serious no brainer!

I’ve had such issues this year with my hair being too dry, breakage, fall out, you name it, it’s been an issue for me. The only time I found I truly loved my hair’s look, feel and health was when I used this shampoo and conditioner from Max Green Alchemy (sadly, I’m out of it and too broke to replenish my stock just yet!). This shampoo and conditioner duo is AMAZING. Not only does it hydrate, detangle and bring lots of volume to my hair, it does so without the use of harmful, artificial ingredients!

I will definitely be replenishing my stock of this set ASAP ( you know, when I’m no longer broke) because it softens locks, encourages hair growth, hydrates really well and gives tons of body to my hair where other products have left it flat and lifeless.

I love that their formula is SO clean and green, steroid free, cruelty free, made with 100% plant ingredients AND it’s both sulfate and paraben FREE.

This is worth a look if you have frequent hair troubles like I did and the price is great for the value.

You can see my original review for this set – here.

What was your favorite hair care product(s) for 2012?

I want to preface this post by saying that I absolutely hate to do laundry.

Actually, hate might not even be that strong of a word. First of all, it takes forever, there’s all the manner of folding and hanging everything up, and most of all, the damn wait time for drying everything which brings me to the subject of this post – Woolzies!

These 100% eco friendly, 100% New Zealand wool dryer balls are my newest laundry love and I didn’t even know I could have love when it came to laundry!

Anyway, so aside from being totally green, these dryer balls are fantastic at softening clothing and cutting your dry time way down.

I’ve been using them for about 2 weeks now and I have seen a significant drop in the time it takes to dry all of my clothes as well as a subtle softening effect.

I know it seems super odd that I’m blogging about these, but I wanted to share them because they really are quite handy and they are supposed to last a long time.

The box they come in includes 6 Woolzies dryer balls, but you can probably use 4 or so if you didn’t want to use them all. Personally, I’ve been using 5 since last week as one of them seems to have rolled off the face of the planet. Knowing my dog, he’s probably hid it someplace.

Anyway, all you do to use these is place them in the dryer with your load and dry as usual. Don’t panic if your laundry sounds like it’s bouncing all over the place because that’s just the balls LOL; it momentarily worried me when I first tried these!

The cost per box (includes 6) is $35.99 with free domestic shipping. Worldwide shipping is only $6.95. Although I think the price is a bit expensive for something like this, but given the fact that they are supposed to last for over 100 loads of laundry, I think it may just be worth it.

You can buy your own box of Woolzies – here!

*I used these Woolzies with Ecover Liquid Detergent & Softener.

How do you “green” your laundry?

Do you use eco friendly laundry product and if not, what do you think of them?

Thanks Humaira! Awesome Nurture My Body Exfoliating Face Cleanser!

I’ve been meaning to do this post for ages and I just haven’t had a chance to do so, but I’m glad it’s finally happening! Yay!

First off, a special thanks to HumairaBeauty for hosting the wonderful giveaway that I won this awesome cleanser from! Also, a thanks to Nurture My Body for making such an awesome dual cleanser + exfoliator product that is gentle, cleansing and brightening.

I really love this cleanser and I am so happy that I won it! It smells of citrus which, for me, is brilliant in the morning when I’m half dead and need a pick-me-up. Aside from the really lovely scent, this really works, but gently so. It feels a bit like a scrub, but it has jojoba beads and almond meal so it’s not very scratchy to use or anything. It doesn’t feel like it’s shaving away at your skin, rather giving it a nice massage which leaves your skin cleaner, brighter and more hydrated.

I love that it works as both a cleanser and exfoliator in one product because it really does save a lot of time and effort. It does hydrate the skin as well, though you may need something more if you’re on the dry side of things. This is also great because it helps any skin treatments and serums absorb into the skin more efficiently as well; a feature I really like about it.

Also, this is a very natural beauty company. This cleanser includes loads of beneficial essential oils, carrier oils and plant extracts so it’s no wonder it works so well. Some notable ingredients include aloe vera gel, green myrtle essential oil, and   chamomile and lavender infusions. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a gentle, natural product that has a host of awesome natural ingredients, but is also very effective in a very gentle way. It’s pretty affordable at $30.57 as well.

You can check out this cleanser – here!

Thanks again to Humaira for hosting such a great giveaway.

ECO Swimwear Fashion + Accessory Pieces I’m Loving Right Now!

After reading a few blogs this morning, I was inspired to post on this after seeing my fellow blogger friend, Kajsa Anderson @KJAnderson via this post where she’s posted a bunch of lovely sportswear pieces. So, I’m using that as an excuse to post all the styles I’m currently in love with! I hope you enjoy!

Nothing Nasty Touches My Lips With Karen Murrell!

These are my new lip favorites!

SERIOUSLY. They are capitial A-mazing.

Created by Karen Murrell (of course), she sought to offer the world a beauty brand with all the lovely aesthetics and appeal, but without the guilty conscience.

Not only are they certified organic by New Zealand beauty standards, they are also cruelty free, not tested on animals, near vegan with the exception of cruelty free honey and beeswax, made with ingredients that are locally sourced and traceable, free of harmful and toxic ingredients, and super sustainable from the ground up.

I am so happy I have had the opportunity to test these lovelies from Karen Murrell out because I will forever be purchasing these lovely lippies from this moment on.

They are perfect in almost every single way and they have all the makings of a perfect lipstick + healing balm in one.

These little cannisters are made from a very special and sustainable material – polylactic acid – a corn resin based material that begins to dissolve back into the earth within 100 days. They’re also greenhouse gas neutral so they don’t contribute to emissions or global warming. Aside from that, the boxes they come in are made from 100% recycled and renewable sources using New Zealand paper and soy inks. All their packaging is also ECOCERT.

With a host of natural and organic ingredients, they also have a plan and philosophy to be completely ecologically sound. This means cruelty free, sustainable, mostly sourced locally and always traceable ingredients, and packaging that won’t make you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Check out the Lovely Swatches!

( From the Left – Carnation Mist, Coral Dawn & Sand Storm )

(Wearing my favorite shade – Carnation Mist)

So after all the technical talk, though I do think they have some impressive stats, I just want to mention that these lipsticks are beautiful to use as well. Not only are they beautiful to the earth, they look great on. They are really pigmented, hydrating and lovely. They look great and the colors are very lively and vibrant. They last a long time on the lips and smell so heavenly – just like cinnamon! It’s not overwhelming, but it’s such a pleasant surprise! No nasty wax taste or feel, these really moisturize your lips while looking fabulous. I’ve already converted a few people to these little lovelies!

So you see, it’s true, “nothing nasty touches my lips” with Karen Murrell.
