May Lindstrom – The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I recently review May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil and really have loved it so much I’m likely to purchase it once I run out of it because it’s so lovely. Aside from it’s naturally nourishing ingredients, it includes golden mica in the formula which lends a golden glow to my skin whenever I apply it. I really love the mini faux glow it gives my skin because I don’t have to sit 5 hours waiting for it to develop like I would with a self tanner. Granted, I don’t get a deep tan with this, but it’s a nice and simple way to get glowing Summer type skin without putting too much effort in and the ingredients in this all over Liquid Sunshine Oil looks great on my face and body.

I really enjoy wearing it when I don’t feel like wearing any makeup, but still want to look somewhat put together because it gives my skin a golden glow and dewy healthy look that allows my skin to shine through and look beautiful while doing it.  You still need a sunscreen when you go out as this doesn’t include SPF other than what’s naturally in plant oils ( no higher than SPF 5, if that ) , but it looks great by itself on makeup free days or beach days for that added golden glow on any skin tone or type.

You can purchase it from May Lindstrom – here.

Kanti Organics Body Oil

One of the great things about being a smaller beauty blogger such as myself is that I get to review more small business beauty brands and, often times, find out that I can get a great product for much less than higher end designer brands would offer it for.

Kanti Organics is one such small, but nonetheless awesome beauty brand!

They offer a small range of natural and organic skincare products for face, body and even babies. Their Restoring Body Oil is the second product I’ve tried from their lovely range of products and it’s been just as lovely as the first! I had first tried their Rejuvenating Facial Serum which I highly recommend. Both smell similar and AMAZING as well as being effective in hydrating, softening, and brightening skin.

The scent of this body oil is similar, as I said, to their Rejuvenating Facial Serum, but it’s a bit more subtle. It includes tons of natural and organic plant oils such as grape seed, coconut, apricot, and olive as well as other healing essential oils which give this oil it’s relaxing, intoxicating scent. It’s super hydrating and softening and works well straight out of the shower when skin is still damp. It also works fantastic when you add a few pumps to your bath to soften and moisturize skin, especially if you’re the type of person who hates applying and massaging in body oil – you will get similar benefits from the oil using it this way.

Really, I can’t recommend this enough as a body oil for anyone and everyone. It’s really lovely in scent without being overpowering so you can wear it with perfume or body spray and it’s super effective at hydrating and softening skin without too much fuss. It’s a solid body oil at a very affordable price so do check it out!

Happy Friday!

I am soo ready for the weekend!

I don’t know why, but this week has just been exhausting for me and I need some rest. Plus, I failed to wake up the past 2 days and didn’t go to the gym because I felt so exhausted so I’ll be working out today through the weekend to make up for it. Cannot believe I did that, but lady problems ( if you know what I mean ) have made me sluggish and moody. Lol.

Anyway, onto better things!

Over a week ago, I was sent more goodies from the lovely May Lindstrom and I got so excited about it that I proceeded to spam my Instagram with overly excited photos of everything (and if you like that sort of thing, definitely follow me @StorybookBeauty !).

I received a full size of The Good Stuff Radiance Oil and a mini sample of The Clean Dirt Cleanser. The Clean Dirt Cleanser looks almost identical to the Problem Solver Mask (check the bottom of this post for a link to that review!) that I previously received from May Lindstrom, but slightly less potent (thank goodness) so there was less sneezing on my part when I actually went to use it. It comes in a dry powder form that you mix with a bit of water to form a paste and then massage into the skin.

If you want to see exactly how The Clean Dirt should be used, below is a video of May Lindstrom herself demonstrating!

I really enjoyed trying this little mini sample of The Clean Dirt out. It’s a great cleanser for those who love to have that totally deep cleansing effect without using an abrasive product because even though it’s a mixture of several clay powders, minerals, raw spices, and raw cacao powder, it’s still really gentle on the skin. Aside from the gentle powder ingredients, this cleanser also includes a very unique form of vitamin C which is activated when it hits water to help increase blood flow on the skin and encourage cell turnover. Vitamin C is also said to help improve collagen production, assist with blemishes and pigmentation, and generally improve the overall condition of the skin.

It certainly helps to clean out the pores and I love that about it. For my combination skin, I still like to alternate between this and a more nourishing cleanser because my skin has been so dry, but this one cleans really well. The packaging is super luxurious and it smells nearly identical to the Problem Solver Mask – just like hot chocolate! Overall, I really like this cleanser and I think I might purchase the full size when it gets closer to Summer because it would really come in handy during the hot months when my skin inevitably gets super oily and somewhat clogged. I definitely recommend this to oily, combination (in Spring/Summer months) and acne prone skin types because I’ve found it to be especially beneficial at clearing my skin of breakouts, especially the annoyingly small white heads and blackheads. This cleanser has made a huge difference in the amount of blackheads on my nose area so, if you’re like me and have them on your nose or chin area, this can really help you clear up that situation!

You can learn more (and purchase, if you like!) about the Clean Dirt Cleanser – here.

Next up is this amazing multi-use oil, The Good Stuff Radiance Oil, which I have been loving!

Again, like all of the May Lindstrom products (at least the ones I’ve tried so far!), save for the Youth Dew, this one smells deliciously of chocolate! Yum!

I absolutely love chocolate so trying out these May Lindstrom products has been great, though I’ve been tempted to eat the products JUST KIDDING (please don’t eat them! Lol).

But really, The Good Stuff Radiance Oil really is Good Stuff.

Aside from it’s amazing scent, the formula includes cocoa, rose, lavender and ylang ylang along with various plant oils and shimmery minerals to help relax and rejuvenate the senses while also healing and hydrating the skin. It does include a bit of translucent minerals that add shimmer to the oil itself, which I love, and coupled with the plant oils, this oil really helps hydrate the skin. I’ve used to all over, including on my face, the bath, and a few times in my hair (on the ends, that is) to excellent effect!

On the body, this is a no brainer – it smells incredible and makes your skin feel all soft and look super glowing. As advised, it is best used directly after a bath or shower when your skin is still damp as it will absorb the oils into your skin much more effectively and leave your skin really soft and supple. I felt a bit like Todd, the Vegan, in Scott Pilgrim V. the World ( kidding again ), but I really felt and looked healthily glowing. On the face, I felt like it almost gave my skin a mini faux glow that was really natural looking, yet made my skin look more flushed and hydrated. On my hair, I don’t really know that it did much except tame small flyaways, but the smell is so hypnotic that I loved having it infused into my wet hair because I could smell it all day thereafter. In the bath, it really helps soften skin and the scent is super relaxing and enjoyable.

really love this oil and I will definitely repurchase when I run out. Though the May Lindstrom products are not cheap, by any means, I really feel you do get good value for your money as The Clean Dirt and The Problem Solver Mask both come in dry form and will last you ages, literally. They all come in lovely, top quality glass bottles that look super chic on your bathroom counter, but more importantly, they actually work and they do so without using harmful, artificial ingredients.

OilArganic 100ml

Happy Thursday!

I hope you’re all having a great week – mine’s been quite hectic and busy! Anyhow, today’s post focuses on a really lovely multi-use dry oil from the amazing Tan Organic. If you’re unfamiliar with Tan Organic, they’re an excellent beauty brand from Ireland that originally came out with a really great organic self tanner (hence the name – Tan Organic). I reviewed it this past Summer and you can see that review – here. Much like their 100% natural award-winning sunless tanner, their multi-use oil, Oil Arganic, is made with the same high standards and quality. It includes various beneficial certified organic plant oils including argan oil, olive oil, hemp seed oil, avocado oil, evening primrose oil, rose and orange peel oils. Although they really market toward the rose fragrance, the bottle I received for review really smelled much more like citrus-y orange peel than anything, but I personally love citrus scents so I prefer that to rose. This  multi-use oil works really well for the body and hair. Although I don’t see any miraculous effects happening when I use it in my hair, it does help tame frizz and smells really pleasant. Actually, where this oil really shines is when you use it straight out of the shower. The easy spray applicator makes it super simple to spray and massage into the skin right away and the formula absorbs really seamlessly, leaving no greasy residue or oiliness behind. I think this would be a great one for the Summer, especially if you plan on showing off your legs a lot or going to the beach regularly, because it definitely gives your skin a nice glow. In Winter, especially straight out of the shower, this helps keep your skin hydrated and supple and avoids the ashy, tight dryness we all dread. I definitely recommend this dry oil as a very affordable, natural option for those who want quality without the huge price tag. This one is definitely worth it!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Before I being today’s post, I just want to take a second to say I am not a doctor. If you have a specific skin condition or if you are simply unsure whether this method will work for you, please consult your physician beforehand. This is simply a method that has really worked well for me so I hope it helps some of you in your goals for clear, glowing body skin.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know all about my body’s dry skin issues. That being said, I haven’t talked about the things I do to combat and keep my dry skin at bay. The main thing I’ve been doing for a few months now is oil cleansing for the body.

When people discuss oil cleansing, it’s usually referring to the face, but I’ve been using natural olive oil body oil to wash my body. This may actually turn quite a few people off, but it actually really works incredibly well for me.

First of all, I still use soap to cleanse delicate lady parts (sorry, it needs to be said), but everywhere else (aside from my hair) gets cleansed with the body oil I purchased at my local farmer’s market from a company called Ambrosia Foods.

I experimented cleansing this way for the first time because cleansing with traditional soap just wasn’t doing it for me. It didn’t matter if the body wash or soap was for dry skin, it still dried my skin out and occasionally made me peel. So, I thought, why not take the principles of oil cleansing for the face and apply that to my body?

So, in order to avoid the annoying oily type feeling, here’s how I achieve soft, glowing skin through oil cleansing without feeling super oily at the end of it all.

I posted about these gloves I picked up at Target several months ago from Eco Tools and they’ve worked very well for me. So, when I decided to begin my experimenting with oil cleansing for the body, these were a must-have. Basically what I do is I apply body oil (the one shown above or whatever body oil I have on hand) while in the shower and I massage it into my skin while using these exfoliating shower gloves. Then I rinse off a little, turn off the shower and dry my skin. The exfoliating gloves really help the oil absorb into my skin while sloughing off dead skin cells and cleansing dirt. Just remember to be gentle around your breast, neck and under arm areas where the skin is much thinner because exfoliating too hard can irritate and inflame your skin.

Not only does my skin not feel oily after the fact, but it’s left brighter, clearer, more supple and hydrated. If I feel I still need added moisture, I’ll apply a normal body lotion once out of the shower. My two current favorites are the Skin Rescue Lotion from Max Green Alchemy and the Intrinsic Organics Body Lotion because they both absorb easily without leaving residue behind and they hydrate the skin really well without clogging pores.

So, I know it may sound weird, but try it and see for yourself; you may be surprised at the results!

Words of caution – be careful when using oil in the shower, you can slip and hurt yourself if you’re not careful. Also, make sure you rinse your shower out well after bathing because it can cause dirt to stick to the tub if you don’t rinse with hot water after the fact and may also cause the next person to shower to slip and fall as well.

Have you ever tried oil cleansing before for the face or body?

What were your experiences with this method of cleansing?

DIY Recipe: Simple Summer Bronzing Oil for Face & Body

I recently wrote this post about whether or not Storybook Apothecary should carry a bronzing oil and some of you expressed an interest in a DIY recipe for a bronzing oil so here it is!

Enjoy!

Things You Will Need:

  • Bronze or Gold Mica Powder (1 Teaspoon per Ounce of Oil)
  • Organic Oil of Your Choice
  • Green Tea Eco Extract (Optional)

I mixed several different colors of gold and bronze mica powders to get this color, but use colors you think will suit your skin tone.

The paler you are, the most golden the color should be. If you’re a bit beige, you may want to add more bronze and if you’re even darker, you’ll want to add mostly bronze and only a little gold.

Next you’ll want to choose an oil (preferably organic) to use. I’ve used a mixture of organic evening primrose, sunflower, olive and grape seed oil.

Sunflower and olive oils are great for added sun protection because they offer mild sun protection to your skin naturally. You still need to use a sunscreen/sunblock, but these oils will certainly help protect you from the sun alongside your sunscreen/sunblock.

I also added green tea extract to this mixture because many studies have shown that using green tea in your skin products may help protect your skin from damaging UV rays.

You don’t have to use green tea extract and you don’t have to use multiple oils, you can just use one oil of your choice and no extract.

It’s up to you.

After that, you’ll want to choose a container.

It really depends on if you want to use this as a facial bronzing oil or body bronzing oil.

I used an amber glass dropper 1 ounce bottle that I had on hand, but you can use an old body oil or facial oil container. Whatever you like.

Once you’ve mixed your mica, oil(s), and extracts together in a bowl, pour it into your chosen container and that’s it!

It’s super easy and really a nice way to add sun protection, moisture and a lovely glow to your skin this summer!

I hope you decide to try this and let me know how it goes!

 ❤
