It’s another day for a giveaway in my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways event and today’s prize is the Tinted Moisturizer by Alpha-H in Medium!

I’ve been a huge fan of Alpha-H for awhile now from their face masks to their Liquid Gold, moisturizers, face cleansers, and the list goes on. They have incredibly effective products that work, especially on acne prone problem skin. I also think their products would be quite effective against hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin tone as well. You can check out my original post on Alpha-H here if you would like to learn more about their incredible products.

A special thanks goes out to Alpha-H for sponsoring today’s giveaway and providing this lovely product. 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways - Liz Earle - StorybookApothecary.Com

Hello lovelies!

I’m back again with another day of giveaway goodies in my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways event and today’s giveaway item is the much-raved-about Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser by Liz Earle!

You may remember my review of this cleanser in late summer ( if not, you can see it here ) and how fantastic this cleanser was for my skin. It’s literally like an updated, more all-natural Noxzema type cleansing creme that softens, detoxes, and rejuvenates the skin. It has a nice minty feel about it, though it’s likely from the eucalyptus in the formula. It has loads of natural essential oils and extracts in the formulation so it will certainly benefit your skin over time, especially if you have issues with acne and the like.

A very special thanks to Liz Earle for donating this product for today’s giveaway and working with me and my blog – it means a lot to me.

As I’ve been so busy preparing all the giveaway posts for my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways Event, I just have not had the time to do all the reviews, makeup looks and other normal beauty posts I’d normally be doing about now so sorry for the lateness on this favorites post and the lack of a typical collage that I’d normally do. If you haven’t done so already, definitely hurry and sign up for the 2 giveaways that are open as the first closes in 12 hours or so and the second closes in less than 48 hours!

  • Alpha-H Liquid Smoothing & Perfecting Face Mask.  This one has been a real life saver! My skin has been all over the place since the weather started to change and this mask has kept breakouts in check and helped smooth out patchiness, brighten dullness and just wake my skin up. It’s a great pick-me-up mask and it has the great tingling effects with the results to back it up! Highly recommend this one!
  • Living Nature Foundation. I’ve really been loving this foundation as it has a lot of healing ingredients in the formula including harakeke flax gel and manuka which are said to heal, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin and I really can attest to these effects! Although the coverage is not full, it has a general light to medium that’s buildable and really seems to even out the skin without covering it up. I love that it lets my skin breath and doesn’t break me out. Plus, it’s nicely hydrating and looks even more polished when used with the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Primer.
  • Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener. This primer is so great! Although I covet my Korres primer because it is silicone free and I’ve had something of a phobia when it comes to silicone primers given how often they seem to make me breakout, I really love this one and it does not make me break out so that is fantastic! Instead, it gives that fantastic poreless finish we all associate with silicone primers with none of the typical irritation associated with them. Normally, in the past I’ve felt like, well I’d like the poreless look today so let me use this crap primer and pray my skin doesn’t react in the five hours I’m wearing it and I’d usually break out. But with this primer, I don’t have to worry because I never break out! It makes my skin look great and gives the natural foundations ( like the Living Nature or Jane Iredale ones) a fuller coverage that still looks natural, though a bit more finished.
  • The Leakey Collection Marula Oil. This has been such a great oil for hydrating my skin! I love that it’s just pure marula oil and that it’s a product I can really stand behind in terms of ethics and things. The oil itself feels so silky and yet it absorbs almost instantly into the skin and no residue. This is something I would absolutely repurchase though I’d need to save up a bit as it’s a little bit of a splurge!
  • Suti Skincare Cleanse Organic Balm. Last on the list, but nonetheless amazing! If you follow then you’ll have somewhat of an idea of the extent of my little obsession with Suti products. They just have such greatly formulated products and these products actually work! Some natural products are all natural and then their formulas suck despite their fantastic ingredient list, but these are so effective! I love this cleanse balm for any time, all the time. It just seems to really straighten my skin out when it’s going haywire for no reason and that’s whether it’s summer, winter, whatever. This. Just. Works. Try it. It’s amazing and it will nourish and smooth your skin in a beautiful way.

So, that’s it for my November favorites!

What are you loving this winter season to keep your skin in great shape or get the perfect fall makeup look?

I just got this in my email and I’m so excited!

It seems like it’s been too long since I’ve had a chance to purchase from JB what with work, product reviews, and all that madness and I can’t think of a better time to purchase some of my favorites!

My favorite face wash from them – the JB Organic Face Wash, which I reviewed here, is likely one I’d pick up again. Some other favorites include their Blemish Clearing Serum (not sure why I haven’t done a review of this one!),  Blemish Clearing Cleanser, Green Apple Peel (Full Strength), Soothing Serum, Oil Free Moisturizer & their Organic Facial Rejuvenating Mask Their Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer is good for dry- combination to dry skin types. Their Green Apple Firming Body Moisturizer is also really good! I’ll have to make a mental note to do reviews on all of these or let me know if you want them reviewed!

Anyway, Happy Shopping!

Liquid Minerals A Foundation

Hello Lovelies!

Today’s post centers on another liquid foundation I’ve been testing out for over a month now that I really love. You may remember my review on the Living Nature Foundation (If not, you can read the review – here) which I loved as well, but this foundation by Jane Iredale is a bit different, though nonetheless fantastic!

First off, if you’re unfamiliar with Jane Iredale, it is a natural beauty brand that offers a range of natural cosmetics that function as both makeup AND skincare. This is why they refer to their brand as “Skincare Makeup” because their products often have dual functionality for both aesthetics (looks) and the skin (anti-aging, anti-acne, etc.) effects that they claim come from wearing their cosmetics over an extended period of time. Their products are cruelty free and this foundation, in particular, is vegan and gluten free as well.

I was lucky enough to be sent this foundation with both their foundation brush and their Balance Hydrating Antioxidant Spray. The foundation brush is quite standard as far as brushes go. It’s a nice quality foundation brush, but for me, I prefer applying my foundation with a buffer brush or beautyblender type sponge so this didn’t get much use. I really dislike applying with this kind of brush and then having to smooth out the inevitable streaks so unfortunately, this brush didn’t get much use. Though I will say, if you enjoy using this kind of brush, the brush is a nice quality, there’s been absolutely no shedding at all, and it’s made of taklon nylon so it’s cruelty free and vegan.

Their Liquid Minerals A Foundation is very unique in that it is formulated with a calming base of aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin which suspend liposomes (they look like little liquid capsules in the bottle) which encapsulate many active ingredients and serve to penetrate your skin and help it absorb all of the benefits of these ingredients most effectively.

So, when you use this foundation, you’re not only meant to have a great finish, but also skin benefits over time and through continued use. Their formula is calming, lightweight, and includes a number of beneficial ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate (hydration), oat extract (calms irritation, redness), willow bark extract (acne, balances skin sebum), and many other extracts which are said to work to improve your skin from the inside out while providing an outwardly beautiful look.

But do their claims live up when tested? Personally, I think so! Although the coverage isn’t full, it is a nice moderate to medium soft finish. Since it’s water based, it won’t irritate skin or clog pores and it has not made my skin break out at all. I did find it quite weird to use at first because the pigment capsules are suspended in aloe gel and when you first pump the liquid out, the first few pumps come out clear, but after the first time, it’s fine to apply and the liquid comes out in a fairly even consistency.

This formula does fill in pores, though it’s not mask-like or heavy at all. In fact, it feels like I’m not wearing anything at all. Strangely enough, I find this to be more like a complexion enhancer than anything, but it does dry down to a semi-matte type light to medium coverage despite not feeling like it’s heavy or cakey. The coverage is even more so when applied using their Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener (You can see my review for that – here) and the staying power is much more polished with the primer than without.

I have been really enjoying using this foundation with their Balance Antioxidant Hydrating Spray as a setting spray – it gives a lovely dewy finish and I’m really loving that natural look this winter, especially because my skin can actually tolerate that look when it’s colder so I’m taking full advantage while I can!

I love the scent of this spray – it’s very natural, pleasant and light. There’s nothing at all overbearing about the scent like some other sprays / toners can sometimes be and it seems to be nicely hydrating without feeling oily or like there’s a residue on the skin so I love that for my skin.

Balance Antioxidant Hydration Spray

Overall, this is a really solid natural foundation! I love the idea of there being skincare benefits to wearing foundation, though I didn’t see a huge improvement in my skin that was seriously noticeable in the month and a half I’ve been using this. That being said, I love that their formulation is, for the most part, a very natural, gentle one that won’t irritate sensitive skin or clog pores for those with problem skin either. It doesn’t give a full coverage, but then, if you’re using natural, you can’t expect a hugely full coverage as it’s meant to accent your skin and even it out, but not cover it. The antioxidant spray was a nice addition to using this foundation – I highly recommend it for those who want that dewy natural finish. If not, this foundation dries down to a semi-matte or matte without it, depending on your skin type and what moisturizer you use. The foundation brush was good quality and build, but at $41, it’s not cheap and as someone who isn’t into that kind of brush, I’ll be passing it on to my sister who can get more use out of it than me.

It’s convinced me I can make everything despite a severe handicap (no, not really) when it comes to crafts. So, here are some of my favorites; I hope you enjoy!

DIY Bracelet From animatedknots.com via Pinterest

I’m not much for crocheting or sewing or anything that requires a lot of patience (a virtue I was not gifted with) really, but I actually love this bracelet and plan on making one (or several) for myself! It seems pretty easy.

DIY Nail Polish Tutorial From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’ve been wanting to try this one for ages and I really love this tutorial. Anyone tried this yet with their eye shadows? Any advice is appreciated!

DIY Coconut Milk Shampoo From onegoodthingbyjillee.com via Pinterest

I really want to do this one as hair products can be pretty expensive, but I’m concerned about it being color safe. Again, if anyone has advice on this front!

DIY Re-Vamped Flats From makeit-loveit.com via Pinterest

I really love this tutorial for re-vamping flats as I’m someone who tends to scuff up perfectly good flats in a month’s time. Yeah, I’m shoe-abusive and I tend to get bored easily so this is a fun way to change with the trends without going broke.

Not sure if this actually works on nails, but I’ll try it soon and let you know!

never buy white strips again!: dip q-tip in hydrogen peroxide (the key ingredient in whitestrips) and apply to surface of teeth for 30 sec before brushing teeth) once a day for a few days. Teeth will look whiter in 2 days.

DIY Whiten Your Teeth via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m seriously going to pick up some hydrogen peroxide so I can test it out. Basically, you dip a Q-tip into some hydrogen peroxide and polish each tooth before brushing your teeth. Wait 30 minutes with the peroxide on your teeth before brushing regularly. People say there’s a huge difference when you do it for one week straight and it’s certainly cheaper and more eco than Crest white strips, right?

DIY Blackhead Treatment From stylebees.com via Pinterest

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m curious to see how it will work. May try this one tonight as I finally picked up some lemons. Anyone tried this yet?

DIY Eyelash Growth Treatment From fashionindie.com via Pinterest

I have seriously long lashes (Italians are hairy okay), but since I decided to get tweezer happy as a teen, my brows grow in bizarrely and don’t grow in at all in some places so I may try this one out on my brows.

DIY Nail Dots Pinned from Pinterest for iPhone via Pinterest

As I’ve said, I’m nail – inferior, but the idea of making dots on my nails sounds like fun. I’m like a kid banging on a piano – I can’t actually play the damn thing, but I can pretend.

At-Home Spa Treatments From lulus.com via Pinterest

I looove to do DIY facials in the winter for some reason. I don’t know if that’s because I’m in somewhat hibernation and leave my house less or what, but it’s fun and these are pretty easy to make. I’ve done all of these except the bath one and the anti-redness facial. Though, lately, I am getting a lot of redness (I’ve run out of my Suti Cleansing Balm & Moisturizer! 😦 ) due to the weather changes so I may try the anti-redness one soon.

Map Nails via Pinterest [Not sure of source – if someone knows, please let me know so I can update this!] – You can get a tutorial for this here though > http://polishpedia.com/map-nails.html

This seems like a fun alternative to painting my nails and it looks cool too!

DIY Sock Bun From beautylish.com via Pinterest

I’m trying this one tonight as I haven’t had the heart to mutilate any of my socks until now, but this one seems too good to pass up and certainly more gentle than constantly putting my hair in a bun the normal way. Maybe.

Romantic French Braid Tutorial From abeautifulmess.typepad.com via Pinterest

I may try this come Thanksgiving. I really love the look! It’s so simple, but very romantic and it’s cold out and about that time when I get super sentimental and pull out my Pride & Prejudice and start quoting about “how ardently I admire and love you..” and my boyfriend looks at me like, WTH did you just say? with his eyebrow raised. Yes, it happens.

ANYWAY!

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far ❤

I’m soo happy to share this awesome face mask with you today!

I’ve been wanting to try it for ages and only recently did I get my hands on one to test out.

First off, I just want to say I think those with super sensitive skin should steer clear of this one. It’s pretty intense as a skin treatment mask, but if you can hack it, it’s a seriously great face mask that will give you the results you want in very little time.

I find it seems especially effective for me now and that may be because, in winter, my skin is drier and has a tendency towards dullness, but this is just the perfect pick-me-up my skin needs to look it’s best!

Formulated with 15% glycolic acid, rose and lavender oils, honey, and wheatgerm oil, this face mask works quickly to slough off dead skin cells, encourage cell turnover, and infuse the skin with antioxidants and hydration all at once.

I love how super effective this mask is without taking too much of my day away.

All you do is apply a thin layer over the face and neck area, leave on for no longer than 10 minutes, and rinse off with warm water.

You definitely get the sense that this mask is working while you wear it as it has the awesome tingling factor, but it also shows an immediate difference when you rinse the mask off as well.

It’s important to mention that you really only need to use this mask once a week. It’s that potent of a treatment that any more might be too much for your skin and cause irritation instead of good. That’s not because the mask is harmful, it’s just very concentrated so use it sparingly and wisely.

Although this mask is pretty pricey, it’s well worth it in the results it gives you, in my opinion.

You can find it on Alpha-H.com or otherwise, Beauty Bay carries Alpha-H products as well and always has great deals and offers free worldwide shipping!

Find it on Beauty Bay – here.

What’s your favorite face mask for bright, clear skin?

I’m so excited we’re finally well into the Fall / Winter season so, of course, I started browsing online for winter wants and things I’ve been eyeing for awhile that may be relevant for the winter time and others that I just want irregardless of the season.

So, without further delay, here’s my massive Beauty Lust List for Winter!

What’s On Your Beauty Wish List for Winter?

Living Nature Foundation

Today’s post features one of my first-ever natural liquid foundation reviews!

I had been obsessing over this foundation for ages and ages until Living Nature contacted me through Twitter, offering to send me one for review (Thank you so much again!), and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I’ve been reviewing this one for over a month now and I’ve loved every minute of it!

(Left side of my hand is with no primer and looks more matter, right side is with the Smooth Affair primer from Jane Iredale – you can see it’s more soft and dewy)

Not only does this foundation give solid medium coverage and a lovely finish, whether matte or dewy, it packs loads of valuable, beneficial ingredients such as manuka oil, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, and grapefruit extract. Plus, it’s certified organic! I love that it doesn’t irritate skin nor clog pores and I don’t have to feel guilty about wearing it because it’s all natural and earth friendly. I’ve had great results with both matte and dewy finishes. To get a matte finish, you simply apply this foundation as is after your moisturizer and to get a dewy velvety finish, use a primer. I’ve used the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Smoothing Primer and Brightener with great results. You can see my review for that – here.

I highly recommend this one as I feel it’s certainly well worth the cost given the benefits your skin will receive through using it, both for it’s anti-aging skin benefits the lovely effects it gives the skin.

Personally, I received Pure Taupe and I’m quite pale with neutral pink and yellow undertones, but they have several different shades for various different skin tone shades.

You can check out their various offered shades – here.

What is your favorite natural foundation?
