Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil
Dry winter skin can really suck, especially when it’s coupled with irritation, redness, and flakiness, which is most of the time if not all. To keep my skin looking plump, hydrated and calm, I’ve taken to drawing up warm baths a few times a week and using this incredibly soothing bath oil by Max Green Alchemy – the Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil.

I’ve written a bit about Max Green Alchemy as I really love many, if not all, of their products. They are brilliant and made with organic, cruelty free, and wild crafted plant ingredients which seek to heal the skin from inside out and pretty much succeed in that effort, if you ask me. So, after reviewing this bath oil for about a month, it’s not really a surprise that I’d love this one too!

The scent of this bath oil is AMAZING and it really does soothe irritated and/or dry skin. The scent of it is exactly the same as their Skin Rescue Cream which I reviewed awhile back ( you can see that review – here ) and works just as well at calming skin inflammation as the cream, except without the added hydration you get from the cream. I get extremely dry skin come winter time and that dryness can easily turn into irritated, chapped skin which is not just horrible to look at, it can also be painful. This bath oil has helped me avoid that situation altogether and I am SO thankful!

Aside from being extremely effective at calming and hydrating skin, this bath oil is seriously relaxing. It smells incredible and the oil itself actually dissolves into the water rather than sitting on top of it like most oils do so it really envelops your skin in a cocoon of hydrating oil-infused bath water.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about this product ( and Max Green Alchemy products, in general ) is that fact that not only is this product effective, luxurious, and pleasant to use, but it also has an excellent ethical foundation to stand on. The ingredients are great, natural, cruelty free and the formulation leaves out typical nasties which can cause environmental or bodily harm so it’s really a product I can stand behind and I love that.

More Reasons to Love this Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil:

•” Pure organic botanic and essential oils calm, soothe and moisturize skin
• Supports the treatment of psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema
• Unique formula blends with bath water to infuse into skin
• Won’t leave nasty oil residue on the tub
• Steroid-free, paraben-free, petrochemical-free, GMO-free, lanolin-free, polysorbate-free, cruelty-free
• Enchanting non-medicinal aroma of organic chamomile and neroli
• Contains many certified organic ingredients
• 100% plant origin”

The Answer To All Skin Irritation and Inflammation: Skin Rescue Cream

Today’s post is centering on my top hair care products of 2012 and this one is a serious no brainer!

I’ve had such issues this year with my hair being too dry, breakage, fall out, you name it, it’s been an issue for me. The only time I found I truly loved my hair’s look, feel and health was when I used this shampoo and conditioner from Max Green Alchemy (sadly, I’m out of it and too broke to replenish my stock just yet!). This shampoo and conditioner duo is AMAZING. Not only does it hydrate, detangle and bring lots of volume to my hair, it does so without the use of harmful, artificial ingredients!

I will definitely be replenishing my stock of this set ASAP ( you know, when I’m no longer broke) because it softens locks, encourages hair growth, hydrates really well and gives tons of body to my hair where other products have left it flat and lifeless.

I love that their formula is SO clean and green, steroid free, cruelty free, made with 100% plant ingredients AND it’s both sulfate and paraben FREE.

This is worth a look if you have frequent hair troubles like I did and the price is great for the value.

I get a lot of questions from readers asking me what cleansers would work best for their skin type so I thought I would post a few of my favorites that will work for one or more skin types so there are multiple options to choose from. I tried to keep everything on the affordable side, though some are more pricey. I hope you enjoy!

23148-300

Original Konjac Sponge; $9

ALL SKIN TYPES, EVEN SENSITIVE

This is a great one for all skin types! It’s super gentle, mildly exfoliating and non-irritating even for those with sensitive skin. You can even get these with different clays in them, if you like, depending on your skin type. Check those out here. This is a great cleansing tool + cleanser in one if you like to keep your routine simple, yet effective. Check out my review on this original sponge here!

Suti CLEANSE Organic Balm; £26.00

ALL SKIN TYPES, ESPECIALLY DRY, SENSITIVE, ACNE PRONE & ROSACEA TYPES

This is seriously one of my favorites! I think this could also work for any skin type as well. It’s a bit more on the expensive side of things, but it works incredibly well and is worth the price to me. If you have oily or combination to oily skin, you’ll want to use this with the muslin cloth to get more exfoliation and cleansing action, but if you’re more on the dry or sensitive side of things, you can simply massage this into your skin and rinse with warm water then pat dry. Check out my full review here.

Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser; 24.50

ALL SKIN TYPES EXCEPT DRY & HYPER-SENSITIVE TYPES

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR ACNE PRONE & OILY SKIN TYPES!

Another new favorite, this one is great for all skin types, though I don’t recommend it to anyone who has a sensitivity to essential oils or to someone with dry skin. This is really cleansing and creamy, but it’s not super nourishing so if you need that extra moisture, it’s better to go with the Suti CLEANSE, the AB Cleansing Oil or LN Vitalising Cleanser (see below). This one works especially well for those with combination to oily or oily skin and is really effective for those with clogged pores or acne. This gentle cleanse + exfoliate combo is great for clearing the skin. Check out my full review on this here.

100ml

Living Nature Vitalising Cleanser; $35

ALL SKIN TYPES, EXCEPT SUPER OILY TYPES.

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR DRY, SENSITIVE SKIN TYPES!

This is a really nourishing cleanser! It’s super gentle so it would be great for those with dry skin, sensitive skin or combination skin in the winter. I also find it’s nice to use when my combo to oily skin is looking particularly red or irritated because it helps to calm things down a lot. The scent in this is super subtle and there’s no sulfate or foaming; it actually just feels like a light, easily absorbed lotion only you rinse after. It leaves the skin feeling really soft and hydrated. See my full review here.

Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil; $102

ALL SKIN TYPES

If you’ve been following for awhile, you may know about my love for cleansing oils. If not, well, I love them! They are great for all skin types most of the time and they work so well at balancing the skin out, whether your problem is dryness, oiliness, clogged pores or redness. I love cleansing oils for when my skin is just completely out of whack and off balance. It’s a great way to balance everything out and calm any irritations. Plus, cleansing oils, a lot of the time, are easily absorbed into the skin and help to cleanse the skin without stripping anything from it. Also, they work well as an all-in-one type makeup remover and cleanser. Just be sure to do it 2x! See my full review for this cleansing oil here.

AMPM Wakeup Skin Smooth Washing Powder

NARUKO AMPM Wakeup Skin Smoothing Washing Powder; $14

OILY TO COMBINATION SKIN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH ACNE PRONE SKIN

NOT FOR DRY OR SENSITIVE TYPES

I love to use washing powders during hot, humid months when my skin is super oily and has a tendency to get congested. This is a great way to gently exfoliate the skin without being harsh while getting a good cleanse in. Plus, this one is only mildly foaming so it’s not as harsh as the OTC drugstore acne cleansers that can do more harm than good with their crap ingredients. This one includes rice powder and other ingredients to gently cleanse, smooth, and brighten the skin. See my full review on this here.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser; $15

ALL SKIN TYPES

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

GREAT FOR MAKEUP REMOVAL

This is an old favorite! It’s really great for any skin type, but it works especially well for those with sensitive skin or if you like to use a separate cleanser for makeup removal, this is a nice one. It smells really super fresh (actually true lol) – just like cucumbers. It’s very mild and more milky than foamy so it’s non-stripping to the skin. This is a really nice gel type textured cleanser and is great if you’re someone who doesn’t want to strip the skin of it’s natural oils, but also hates the oily feel of cleansing oils or balms. This one is a nice middle ground that will leave your skin cleansed, but not tight or dry. See my full review on this here.

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce one of my really good friends to you. Her name is Courtney and she’s just started her very own beauty blog here on WordPress: Root Beaut.

A little bit of background: We’ve been friends since before I even wore makeup, had any clue how to apply eyeliner, or had a skincare routine to speak of and she’s actually one of the first people to introduce me to MAC makeup (among others) and has shown me how to properly apply the stuff as well. Today, she’s an absolutely brilliant makeup artist who has studied cinema makeup and knows how to do brilliant things with cosmetics. Seriously. She’s always had an aptitude for beauty and making others look incredible with makeup so I’m actually surprised it took her this long to start a beauty blog, but I am SUPER FREAKIN’ ECSTATIC (yes, I just yelled it at you) that she finally has joined in the madness.

June Beauty Favorites!

I can’t believe July is already here!

June went by so incredibly fast and I have been so busy that I haven’t even had time to blink and notice that we are already knee deep in Summer weather!

I apologize for the delay on this; I wanted to get some of these reviews out before I posted my favorites so you all would be able to go and have a look if it any pique your interest so without further delay, here’s my favorites for June!

CARGO HydraBronze Powder

This bronzer has been amazing to use! I absolutely love it for contouring my cheek bones and it works great for a light bronze that doesn’t look too dark. I also love that they’ve included hyaluronic acid in the formula because it’s never drying to my skin; it just looks super soft and amazing!

Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil

I’ve truly loved this Natural Glow Cleansing Oil by Antonia Burrell because it feels amazing, smells great and is really hydrating. It was perfect to alternate using this with the Alpha-H Triple Action Cleanser (read the full Alpha-H Reviews – here! ) because some days, my skin needed a more hydrating cleanser and this was just the thing! It features a host of awesome ingredients and feels great to use in a deep cleansing facial massage without being drying. Definitely worth a try for any skin type!

I Profumi di Firenze in Pleniluno Fragrance

I have been wearing this scent all month long! It smells amazing and is nice and light; perfect for the summer time! I am not a fan of fruity scents, but this has the perfect balance of fruitiness and musk so it just WORKS! It smells completely intoxicating and I will definitely buy the full size when I run out the of the small sample.

Alpha-H Gentle Balancing Moisturizer with 10% Glycolic Acid

This stuff is seriously one of my new holy grail products! It has been amazing at clearing up any breakouts that I have and brightening up my skin so that it doesn’t look dull and lifeless. It is a bit intense to use and may not be suitable for very sensitive types, but it is amazing for acne prone skin types and it may also be awesome for those experiencing dullness, hyper-pigmentation or dryness frequently. It has a slight tingling sensation due to the high content of glycolic acid so it should be used once every other night or even only a few times a week to get the effects, but it really does the trick!

Rouge Bunny Rouge Tinted Moisturizer in Adansonia

This tinted moisturizer has a lot more coverage than your average tinted moisturizer and I really like the soft finish! It blends nicely and looks natural and fits easily into my makeup bag with it’s thin design! I’ve been using it on regular work days when I want a bit more than a simple powder!

Suti Skincare’s Organic Purity Moisturising Balm

This balm has been amazing at calming my skin when it freaks out for no reason! I’ve loved using it, especially at to help heal breakouts, calm redness and hydrate any dryness I experience. I totally recommend this to anyone with easily irritated skin!

Eyeko London Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

I received this eyeliner in my June Birchbox Review and I’ve pretty much been using it ever since! The felt tip on this is so easy to use and create thick or thin lines on my eyes. Plus, I love the change of pace with this deep purple color when I feel like black would be too harsh. It’s been a nice change for summer!

ECO Tools Bath & Shower Gloves

I mentioned these awhile back in my Target Beauty Haul post. I am so glad that I purchased these! They are amazing to use in the shower with any soap or body wash because they help massage the ingredients into your skin while at the same time gently exfoliating so when you’re done, your skin is SO SOFT! My skin is always so incredibly soft when I step out of the shower now and it’s given my skin a nice glow which is awesome for the summertime! Plus, they were so cheap at $2.99 USD so you can’t beat that!

That’s all my June beauty faves! I hope you enjoyed!

Another Amazing Product from Max Green Alchemy: Skin Rescue Cream

If you’ve been following along my skincare escapades (yes, escapades!), then you’ll have read about my fantastic experience with the Max Green Alchemy’s Scalp Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner Set (Read the Review on that – here!) and what incredible results I had with it.

Personally, when I was asked to review another product from Max Green Alchemy, I was still a bit skeptical. I experience a lot of products and, a lot of times, they have one good product that I truly love, and a host of others that are either just okay or not so good.

This is so NOT the case with Max Green Alchemy!

I have had such amazing results with this cream that I am starting to believe that they can do no wrong!

Their all plant ingredient formulas approach to skincare, haircare and body care has me believing that they are certainly worth the cost as they create natural products that work without harmful ingredients. They are not only natural ingredients, but they are effective ingredients, which I think is something worth noting because I think a lot of people think “oh yes, it’s natural, but does it work, or is it just slopping around on my skin being useless?”

I totally understand this mentality because there are a lot of useless natural products out there and it can be difficult to wade through the sea of organic, natural frenzy and find the ones that actually do work.

My experiences with this cream are nothing short of miraculous.

I have been suffering from rough dry patches on my shoulders and neck for some time and nothing seemed to be able to diminish them… until now.

I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but it is absolutely true.

This cream in combination with the ONE Skincare Olive Oil Nourishing Treatment (See the review for that – here!) has managed to greatly diminish the patchiness in just under two weeks AND soothe a painful sunburn that I got over this past weekend in only a few days!

It smells just as lovely as the lemon scented shampoo and conditioner set, but this one is more plant-like with less citrus.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is suffering from extreme dryness, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis or any other skin irritation.

This cream works!

I couldn’t be more amazed or happy about this and, although this cream was sent to me for review, I will certainly be purchasing this once this cream runs out!

Get Naturally Shiny & Voluminous Hair with Max Green Alchemy

Recently, I was lucky enough to be sent a full sized set of Max Green Alchemy’s Scalp Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner.

I am always hesitant about green and natural hair care products; not because I am not for all natural, I am really, but I have had some bad experiences when it comes to natural products for hair.

A lot of times, they end up being either too drying or too oily and usually leave cringe-worthy residues on my scalp, which is totally gross and not something I would wish on anyone.

That being said, this shampoo and conditioner set is NOT like that!

Thank God for that because I never know when I’m trying new products what the effects will be; catastrophic or miraculous.

In this case, it was definitely the latter!

This shampoo and conditioner duo is very gentle, using 100% plant/natural origin ingredients including tea tree, lavender, lemon tea tree and macadamia oil, to name a few.

They both have the delicious scent of lemon, which was so energizing to use in the morning, and they have not been like most tea tree hair products I’ve used in the past which I have found to be super drying to my hair.

For instance, my boyfriend has super oily hair and loves the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner set, but I personally cannot use it as I have less oily hair than him and find it much too drying.

Great Qualities:

  • Petrochemical-free
  • Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate-free
  • Paraben-free
  • Lanolin-free
  • Cruelty-free
  • Safe for Color Treated Hair
  • Won an ELLE Beauty Green Star Award for Best Conditioner 2009
  • Approved by Vegan.Org
  • Includes many Certified Organic Ingredients

This set by Max Green Alchemy is incredible and far beats out a lot of other shampoos and conditioners that I have tried.

It beats out a lot of natural and mainstream hair care products alike in that both the shampoo and conditioner can be used for people with all sorts of hair concerns such as dandruff control, itchy scalp, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis of the scalp, oily and dry hair, volume (not a claim by them, but my experience!), oily and dry scalp, and flakiness.

With this awesome formula that really seems like it could suit anyone male or female, I am totally won over. My boyfriend has used this to great result and better oil control, and I have found that my hair is more voluminous, shiny without being oily, frizz FREE, and tangle free.

I experience much less fallout and breakage than with even the Awapuhi Ginger line from Paul Mitchell, which I previously loved for its scent and conditioning qualities.

This set actually beats that for me!

After using both the shampoo and conditioner for around two weeks, I definitely see a difference. I find my hair silkier and more manageable than ever without having to sacrifice my dedication to making most of my products green and natural and that is the number one reason that I am won over by Max Green Alchemy’s Scalp Rescue set.

OVERALL RATING: 9/10

Aside from this wonderful shampoo and conditioner set, they also carry other hair products such as pomade, styling gel, and sculpting pastes.

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Powder

I am a huge fan of Juice Beauty products and this is one of my favorites in their line.

It is definitely my favorite blemish clearing powder on the market.

They may have been the ones to pioneer this type of powder, but I am really not sure as Bare Minerals and E.L.F. both have mineral powders that claim to do the same as this one, but which I tried and fell short in my opinion, though E.L.F. is definitely a cheaper option.

I tried this powder 2 separate times with various results, but I have used up both completely.

Application Instructions from Juice Beauty:

The perfect addition to Juice Beauty’s Organics to Clear Skin regimen. For day wear, layer and finish with our Foundation or Powder. For night, use to calm and clear.

Product Claims :

This on the spot Blemish Clearing Powder combines organic fruit extracts, minerals and bamboo powder to soothe, calm and clear blemishes, leaving your skin healed and concealed.

My Experiences: I tried this blemish clearing powder for the first time some time last year. I really loved it! It works well against breakouts, sets well over makeup, under makeup, or you can even wear this to sleep over your nighttime skincare. It is pretty light, but you can wear it alone if you want to go makeup free during the day as well. I love that it is made with mostly natural and organic ingredients, especially organic aloe powder and the various organic fruit extracts. This powder is really healing, not drying at all and has a nice finish to it.

My only real issue with this is that it is expensive ($29) for the amount you get, which is less than 1/2 Oz. It just was not cost effective for me to buy this every 2 months when I, inevitably, ran out. I do not mind dropping a large sum of money on my skincare or even makeup products when the product 1.) lives up to its promises and 2.) lasts a sufficient amount of time which, for me, is about 3 months. This powder lasts me like 1-2 months, if that, but if you can afford it, the powder is amazing. I would use it as a powder foundation, finishing powder and treatment for acne ALL THE TIME, but the size of this powder is just not economical for me.

  • Can be Worn Anytime – Night or Day
  • Calms Skin without Drying like many other powder treatments
  • Includes Natural & Organic Ingredients that heal the skin.

Product Cons:

  • May be considered expensive to some
  • Small size (less than 1 Oz.) may not be considered economical

Final Thoughts:

I really love this powder. Not only does this powder clear my breakouts quickly and without causing any dryness, but the finish is awesome and matte, which I love. I love that the ingredients are natural and organic. The ingredients include organic aloe and bamboo, which I know help to calm redness and irritation. I also love that they include organic pomegranate seed oil to help with collagen synthesis because it means I’m getting both an acne and wrinkle treatment in this powder. I would permanently use it as a mineral foundation replacement if it came in a larger size, but unfortunately, it does not.

I really hate that this comes in such a small size (.35 Oz.) because it’s not economical for me. I wish that it was a larger size so it would last me a longer amount of time. Then I would be able to justify spending nearly $30 USD on it if it lasted me a few months. When I used this, it barely lasts me a month when I have bad breakouts and it lasts me about 2 when I spot treat. That being said, if you can afford it, it is SO worth it!

For anyone with occasional breakouts and spots, this is the perfect way to treat them! It’s not drying, irritating, and it won’t make you peel. I wore this over makeup, under makeup, as a makeup replacement, and to bed. It never broke me out, it looked great with my makeup, though if you don’t like a matte finish, you may not like it. For someone like me, especially in summertime when I’m battling oily shine, I love it.

Where to Find:

You can find Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Powder – here – on their website or otherwise at Sephora, Beauty.com, SkinStore.Com, or Birchbox.com.
