Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil
Dry winter skin can really suck, especially when it’s coupled with irritation, redness, and flakiness, which is most of the time if not all. To keep my skin looking plump, hydrated and calm, I’ve taken to drawing up warm baths a few times a week and using this incredibly soothing bath oil by Max Green Alchemy – the Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil.

I’ve written a bit about Max Green Alchemy as I really love many, if not all, of their products. They are brilliant and made with organic, cruelty free, and wild crafted plant ingredients which seek to heal the skin from inside out and pretty much succeed in that effort, if you ask me. So, after reviewing this bath oil for about a month, it’s not really a surprise that I’d love this one too!

The scent of this bath oil is AMAZING and it really does soothe irritated and/or dry skin. The scent of it is exactly the same as their Skin Rescue Cream which I reviewed awhile back ( you can see that review – here ) and works just as well at calming skin inflammation as the cream, except without the added hydration you get from the cream. I get extremely dry skin come winter time and that dryness can easily turn into irritated, chapped skin which is not just horrible to look at, it can also be painful. This bath oil has helped me avoid that situation altogether and I am SO thankful!

Aside from being extremely effective at calming and hydrating skin, this bath oil is seriously relaxing. It smells incredible and the oil itself actually dissolves into the water rather than sitting on top of it like most oils do so it really envelops your skin in a cocoon of hydrating oil-infused bath water.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about this product ( and Max Green Alchemy products, in general ) is that fact that not only is this product effective, luxurious, and pleasant to use, but it also has an excellent ethical foundation to stand on. The ingredients are great, natural, cruelty free and the formulation leaves out typical nasties which can cause environmental or bodily harm so it’s really a product I can stand behind and I love that.

More Reasons to Love this Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil:

•” Pure organic botanic and essential oils calm, soothe and moisturize skin
• Supports the treatment of psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema
• Unique formula blends with bath water to infuse into skin
• Won’t leave nasty oil residue on the tub
• Steroid-free, paraben-free, petrochemical-free, GMO-free, lanolin-free, polysorbate-free, cruelty-free
• Enchanting non-medicinal aroma of organic chamomile and neroli
• Contains many certified organic ingredients
• 100% plant origin”

The Answer To All Skin Irritation and Inflammation: Skin Rescue Cream

Today’s post is centering on my top hair care products of 2012 and this one is a serious no brainer!

I’ve had such issues this year with my hair being too dry, breakage, fall out, you name it, it’s been an issue for me. The only time I found I truly loved my hair’s look, feel and health was when I used this shampoo and conditioner from Max Green Alchemy (sadly, I’m out of it and too broke to replenish my stock just yet!). This shampoo and conditioner duo is AMAZING. Not only does it hydrate, detangle and bring lots of volume to my hair, it does so without the use of harmful, artificial ingredients!

I will definitely be replenishing my stock of this set ASAP ( you know, when I’m no longer broke) because it softens locks, encourages hair growth, hydrates really well and gives tons of body to my hair where other products have left it flat and lifeless.

I love that their formula is SO clean and green, steroid free, cruelty free, made with 100% plant ingredients AND it’s both sulfate and paraben FREE.

This is worth a look if you have frequent hair troubles like I did and the price is great for the value.

RainwaterBotanicalsXmasGiveaway2012

It’s yet another day of Christmas giveaways!

Are you excited yet?! 😀

Today’s giveaway feature one of my favorite affordable organic brands on Etsy – Rainwater Botanicals.

I’ve spoke about this brand over and over because they are handmade, super affordable, and they include organic and wild crafted ingredients in their skincare and body care products. More than that, their products work really effectively to heal skin with natural ingredients. To read my original post on Rainwater Botanicals, check here.

Today’s giveaway prizes are 2 of my favorite serums from this brand. Firstly, the Skin Repair Serum is fantastic for hydrating all skin types, combating premature aging, and fighting acne prone skin all at the same time. It’s been a big favorite of mine for ages and I think it’s so versatile as it’s meant to work for all skin types. The other serum is the Troubled Skin Facial Serum which helps to fight breakouts, but unlike many acne treatment products, this one is a super hydrating cream that heals acne gently and without drying the skin out. Both serums smell amazing and both work brilliantly!

Special thanks to Rainwater Botanicals for sponsoring today’s giveaway – it means so much to me as someone who loves the brand and as a blogger so thank you!

Korres - Quercetin & Oak Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Concealer

I purchased this concealer awhile ago from Sephora (You can see the original post I did – here) and I meant to review it, but I’ve been super busy and just haven’t gotten around to it until now.

So, sorry for the long wait if you were waiting for the review, it’s finally arrived!

Anyway, I’ll just make this quite short and sweet.

I love Korres products, but I was so disappointed with this concealer. It’s really thick and pasty and quite difficult to blend. Aside from that, it actually sets into my barely existent fine lines and makes my whole eye area look dry. Gross. Plus, when I do wear it, it causes small dot mini breakouts under my eyes.

It works decently enough on spots, but does nothing to treat them and I know it’s not a blemish concealer, but I guess I was just disappointed it doesn’t seem to have healing capabilities despite the natural ingredients.

I actually feel pretty ripped off given this one cost me $22 and really hasn’t delivered. I prefer my original favorite – the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Concealer I reviewed ages ago. It’s more hydrating, gentle, brightening, creamy, easily blendable and cheaper. While the ingredients aren’t as great as what’s in the Korres, at least it’s more effective and doesn’t break my under eyes out.

As sad as it is, especially because I love Korres, this one just missed the mark for me. I think, maybe, if you have super normal skin, this could work for you. It might actually also be okay if you have oilier skin that doesn’t break out. Everyone else may want to steer clear.

You can find this concealer on Sephora for $22 – here.

Living Nature Foundation

Today’s post features one of my first-ever natural liquid foundation reviews!

I had been obsessing over this foundation for ages and ages until Living Nature contacted me through Twitter, offering to send me one for review (Thank you so much again!), and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I’ve been reviewing this one for over a month now and I’ve loved every minute of it!

(Left side of my hand is with no primer and looks more matter, right side is with the Smooth Affair primer from Jane Iredale – you can see it’s more soft and dewy)

Not only does this foundation give solid medium coverage and a lovely finish, whether matte or dewy, it packs loads of valuable, beneficial ingredients such as manuka oil, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, and grapefruit extract. Plus, it’s certified organic! I love that it doesn’t irritate skin nor clog pores and I don’t have to feel guilty about wearing it because it’s all natural and earth friendly. I’ve had great results with both matte and dewy finishes. To get a matte finish, you simply apply this foundation as is after your moisturizer and to get a dewy velvety finish, use a primer. I’ve used the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Smoothing Primer and Brightener with great results. You can see my review for that – here.

I highly recommend this one as I feel it’s certainly well worth the cost given the benefits your skin will receive through using it, both for it’s anti-aging skin benefits the lovely effects it gives the skin.

Personally, I received Pure Taupe and I’m quite pale with neutral pink and yellow undertones, but they have several different shades for various different skin tone shades.

You can check out their various offered shades – here.

What is your favorite natural foundation?

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Before I being today’s post, I just want to take a second to say I am not a doctor. If you have a specific skin condition or if you are simply unsure whether this method will work for you, please consult your physician beforehand. This is simply a method that has really worked well for me so I hope it helps some of you in your goals for clear, glowing body skin.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know all about my body’s dry skin issues. That being said, I haven’t talked about the things I do to combat and keep my dry skin at bay. The main thing I’ve been doing for a few months now is oil cleansing for the body.

When people discuss oil cleansing, it’s usually referring to the face, but I’ve been using natural olive oil body oil to wash my body. This may actually turn quite a few people off, but it actually really works incredibly well for me.

First of all, I still use soap to cleanse delicate lady parts (sorry, it needs to be said), but everywhere else (aside from my hair) gets cleansed with the body oil I purchased at my local farmer’s market from a company called Ambrosia Foods.

I experimented cleansing this way for the first time because cleansing with traditional soap just wasn’t doing it for me. It didn’t matter if the body wash or soap was for dry skin, it still dried my skin out and occasionally made me peel. So, I thought, why not take the principles of oil cleansing for the face and apply that to my body?

So, in order to avoid the annoying oily type feeling, here’s how I achieve soft, glowing skin through oil cleansing without feeling super oily at the end of it all.

I posted about these gloves I picked up at Target several months ago from Eco Tools and they’ve worked very well for me. So, when I decided to begin my experimenting with oil cleansing for the body, these were a must-have. Basically what I do is I apply body oil (the one shown above or whatever body oil I have on hand) while in the shower and I massage it into my skin while using these exfoliating shower gloves. Then I rinse off a little, turn off the shower and dry my skin. The exfoliating gloves really help the oil absorb into my skin while sloughing off dead skin cells and cleansing dirt. Just remember to be gentle around your breast, neck and under arm areas where the skin is much thinner because exfoliating too hard can irritate and inflame your skin.

Not only does my skin not feel oily after the fact, but it’s left brighter, clearer, more supple and hydrated. If I feel I still need added moisture, I’ll apply a normal body lotion once out of the shower. My two current favorites are the Skin Rescue Lotion from Max Green Alchemy and the Intrinsic Organics Body Lotion because they both absorb easily without leaving residue behind and they hydrate the skin really well without clogging pores.

So, I know it may sound weird, but try it and see for yourself; you may be surprised at the results!

Words of caution – be careful when using oil in the shower, you can slip and hurt yourself if you’re not careful. Also, make sure you rinse your shower out well after bathing because it can cause dirt to stick to the tub if you don’t rinse with hot water after the fact and may also cause the next person to shower to slip and fall as well.

Have you ever tried oil cleansing before for the face or body?

What were your experiences with this method of cleansing?

Lust List: Fawn-Worthy Items for Fall 2012

As fall quickly approaches, I find myself browsing around online to find the best beauty products to take my hair, skin, and body into the next season gracefully, especially since season changes tend to throw my body a bit out of balance. Therefore, I really like to look for products that are a bit more nourishing than the light summer ones I’ve been using as well as some fuller coverage makeup which I can actually get away with wearing in the winter. Aside from that, I’ve found some new products as well that just seem like they would be great to try!

Check out my latest in beauty lust below!

SHAMPOO ALMOND & LINESEED 250ml

Korres Almond & Linseed Shampoo for Dry / Damaged Hair; € 12,50

With all the Summer sun, heat, and humity, my hair has taken a literal beating. It looks constantly frazzled, tangled and feels brittle and prone to breakage more than usual. It also feels a lot more fine than normal due to the dryness, despite having a lot of hair so I really want some hair products that nourish and rejuvenate my locks in a natural way.

MASK ALMOND & LINESEED 125ml

Korres Almond & Linseed Nourishing Hair Mask for Dry Hair; € 14,50

Goldfaden Revolution Eye Serum; $80

I can only use eye gels and super light eye creams during the Summer so I look forward to Winter because I can get away with a lot more for my skin and use more hydrating and nourishing serums, especially under my eyes. This one includes a short list of ingredients, all naturally derived to improve the eye are by brightening, firming and calming.

POMEGRANATE FOUNDATION PF1

Korres Pomegranate Foundation; € 29,30

I’m not really sure why we don’t seem to have this in the USA, but I’d gladly import it! It utilizes pomegranate and other natural ingredients to give the skin a natural medium and matte coverage. I really love Korres, but I haven’t seen any makeup that would suit my skin type as of yet. I didn’t even know they offered this until I discovered it on their site, but now it’s on my list!

Travel Set

Living Nature Body & Hair Essentials Kit; $34

Ever since I tried their Skin Essentials Kit & Radiance Night Oil (see reviews here), I’ve been dying to experience their other products to see if they are wonderful as well! Given that they utilize rare ingredients found only in New Zealand, I’m super curious to try them out and see!

Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream; $48

I was super excited when I discovered this one on SkinStore.Com because it’s combining several loves all at once – natural ingredients, BB creams, & custom shades! Also, don’t write this off if you’re a bit on the darker side, they actually offer this BB in quite a few shades so even if you’re on the tanner side of things, you might be able to find a shade that suits you!

10ml

Living Nature Soothing Manuka Honey Gel; $22

FEI’D Hyper-pigmentation Serum; $60

I have been hearing about this one for awhile so I think it’s new. It’s supposed to help fade scars and discoloration using natural licorice, mulberry and bearberry as well as other Chinese herbs instead of the harsh kojic acid or hydroquinone.

Skin Rescue Shower Gelee

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Shower Gelee; $14.99

If you’ve been here since the inception of this blog, you might know about my love turned obsession with all things Max Green Alchemy! If not, check out my reviews for the Skin Rescue Cream, their Scalp Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner, and the Elemeni Face Oil to see how awesome they are!

23237-300.jpg

Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Mask; $64

Living Nature Concealer; $30

You may have read my review on the Neutrogena Concealer (if not, see here). Ever since I discovered how awesome that one is, I really have been searching for a more natural replacement because, as much as I love the formula, I want something that will be a little kinder to my skin, especially under my eyes where the first signs of aging show up!

Korres - Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara

Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara; $20

Now available at Sephora, this mascara by Korres looks amazing! I’m always on the lookout for more natural eye products because anything you put near your eyes should be as natural and gentle as possible. That being said, I still haven’t found anything that beats the magic that is Diorshow Extase Mascara (see my review for it here).

Age Delay Cleansing Oil

Alpha-H Age Delay Cleansing Oil; $49.95 AUD

Again, if you’ve been following for awhile, you may know about my newfound devotion to Alpha-H (if not, check out my reviews here). I’m also currently testing out the Liquid Gold (OMG!) which I am loving and which deserves it’s own post. 😉 Anyway, I discovered this new cleansing oil from Alpha-H while browsing their site and it looks pretty lovely as it includes rose hip and tangerine in the formula.

Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil

Max Green Alchemy Skin Rescue Blooming Bath Oil; $9.99

This looks amazing for fall and winter bath treatments! Especially since I recently began doing Insanity, I find myself wanting to take baths more to soothe sore muscles and this seems like just the thing to keep my skin hydrated and my muscles and mind relaxed.

94 LIGHT GREY

Korres Myrrh & Oligoelements Nail Colour in Light Grey; € 8,00

I didn’t even know they carried nail colours, did you?

This one looks really lovely for fall and I was reading that all of their nail colours include natural ingredients that boost hydration, are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal, and that increase keratin levels and keep nails healthy instead of normal polishes which tend to make nails brittle and dry.

i Profumi di Firenze – Arancio di Sicilia; $99

Ever since sampling the Plenilunio scent (see review here), I have been eyeing all the others! This one is especially desirable because my last name is Sicilia and I’m Italian and well, I want it! So there. 🙂

So that’s all so far on my Fall Lust List, what’s on yours?

July Beauty Favorites!

  1. Neutrogena Healthy Skin 3-In-1 Concealer – I’ll be the first to admit I don’t seem to ever be getting enough sleep. I just stay up late, blogging away, reading blogs or books or just plain not sleeping. What can I say? I guess I’m just a night owl. This concealer is amazing. It takes me from dead to alive in less than 10 seconds and doesn’t break me out.
  2. Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – I have been using this one all month long and absolutely love it! It’s my natural version of Noxzema; it deep cleans without being too abrasive or drying to my skin. It’s so gentle and the muslin cloth offers just enough exfoliation to give my skin a glow, but not irritate me. Definitely a keeper! This is the perfect cleanse + exfoliate combo for anyone who wants the results without having to put too much effort or thought in and it’s all natural.
  3. Vive Sana Solar to Polar Ultra SPF40 Natural Sunscreen – This sunscreen is really amazing. It combines sun protection with beneficial skin ingredients so your skin is well hydrated and nourished while it’s being shielded from the sun. The only thing is the formula is a bit thick for my taste, but click here to see how I’m making it work anyway.
  4. Makeup Forever Professional Yellow Gold Eye Shadow in N101 – This eye shadow is amazing and works in any and every makeup situation. I like to use it all over my lid on days when I don’t feel like doing my eye makeup and it looks really pretty without being over the top. Also, even though it looks white-ish, it’s actually a very soft gold so I’ve used it on my eyes’ inner corners and it gives a really nice awake effect. This is a great multi-use eye shadow; I use it pretty much every single day. I’ve used it in this makeup look in case you want to see it in action!
  5. Makeup Forever Professional Apricot Orange Blush in N25 – This blush is the PERFECT blush for anyone who wants a natural glow, especially the paler girls who struggle with finding the proper color that doesn’t look too pink, red or purple. This would work well for any skin tone; I’ve used it on my more tan friends to great effect as well, although it’s not eye popping; it just gives the skin a really amazing glow. This has worked well for really natural glow looks and also beach bronze looks as well.
  6. Living Nature Radiance Night Oil – This nighttime facial oil works super well for helping my skin stay nourished and radiant. It’s really light, easily absorbed into the skin and doesn’t break me out. Actually, I think it has been helping to treat any breakouts I do have. Plus, the ingredients are incredibly natural and include really rare plant extracts only found in New Zealand.
  7. TanOrganic 100% Natural Sunless Self Tanner Spray – This is the most natural looking tanner I have ever used, ever. It doesn’t make me look orange tinted like most ones I’ve tried (L’Oreal, Sally Hansen, Etc.). Instead, I look really naturally bronzed. It’s really buildable; seriously a few sprays and you get a nice tan color so it would be really easy to over do it. If you end up purchasing some of this amazing tanner, go light on the first try. The color intensifies over a few hours time no joke, but the results are lovely and the spray makes this virtually streak free and idiot proof for tanning incompetents such as myself.
  8. ILIA Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Blossom Lady – This tinted lip conditioner gives a really nude type pink color to my lips that is super natural looking and also helps keep my lips hydrated. In this SoCal heat, my lips get chapped in what feels like every 5 seconds so this has surely saved me from that! I’ve been carrying it around in my purse all month long to reapply throughout the day.

So, those are my beauty favorites for July; what have you been loving this month?
