Acai Anti-Oxidant Cleansing Creme

Beauty minimalism is something seldom sought after by those who buy beauty products, but for those who want a more natural, yet simple way for beauty, Bambola Beauty may be the answer!

Although not organic, they have all natural skincare formulated products at decent prices.

I had the pleasure of receiving 2 small samples from them; their Acai Cleansing Creme and their Lip Repair Balm.

Their Acai Cleansing Creme is really nourishing, softening and gentle. They include no surfactants so there is no foaming action, but it cleanses your skin really well without stripping it of natural oils. Included in it’s formula are nourishing sunflower oil and brightening mandarin oil, lemon juice extract, and acai extract for vibrant, healthy skin. I really love this cleansing creme for removing makeup! I think if you have normal skin, you may be able to skip a moisturizer using this; it’s that hydrating. I would recommend this one more for normal to dry skin types and maybe combination in cold winter. It’s great at removing makeup for me, but it’s so hot right now that it makes me far too oily to use in the Summer. Actually, for me to solely use this as a cleanser, it would need to be super windy and cold otherwise I just could not do it. That doesn’t make it bad; just not right for my skin type, though I think it would be heavenly for those with dry, mature skin or normal skin. Someone with combination to dry may also benefit in the fall/winter.

I also tried their Lip Repair Balm which comes in a simple chap stick tube and features a very simple list of ingredients: Beeswax, Coconut, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Honey, Real Vanilla, Stevia. I really love that the ingredient list is short and simple and this lip balm works really well! It’s very nourishing, has a sweet subtle scent and flavor, and it’s easily absorbed into the lips. I feel like it literally melts into my skin. I’ve been using it on and off for a few months and it’s really helped keep my lips hydrated. I highly recommend this one, though I think $9 for it is a bit steep.

Overall, I really love how simple this brand is. It’s the modern furniture for Beauty in my mind and it takes all the steps of natural beauty and makes them simple and straightforward. Although I think their products are a bit expensive, I do like that they are natural and that’s something I can appreciate. I think this will especially benefit those who don’t want something complicated, but still want something natural that works. The look and feel is classy and conscientious.

5 Tips and Tools for Body Exfoliation

It’s easy to put huge emphasis on the skin on your face while totally neglecting the skin on your body, but your body skin still ages, dulls, dries up, and sustains damage over time with too little attention so it’s important to take the necessary steps to keep your body skin in great condition just like the skin on your face.

Here are some steps I follow to keep my skin glowing, youthful and hydrated!

1. Use the Right Tools. This is super important! A lot of people never think to exfoliate the skin on their bodies, but it actually really helps to keep the skin on your body looking healthier and improves it’s ability to absorb moisture ten fold if you do it properly. What tools you use really depends on your skin type. For me, the Eco Tools Exfoliating Shower Gloves (pictured above) that I purchased in my June Target Haul work best. They are just abrasive enough, but not too harsh for my very sensitive, but very dry skin. Just don’t press down too hard otherwise you’ll do more harm than good. If you’re not someone with sensitive skin, you may want to look into using a dry brush, a method in which you use a dry brush on dry skin before showering. Otherwise, you can also use a simple wash cloth or something a little fancier, like this one from Etsy. If you own a Clarisonic and have normal skin, you can also invest in buying a Body Brush Attachment, which works well with any wash you choose to use. You can also use bath poufs, but I prefer not to given they are made of cheap plastic which attracts more bacterial than natural fibers and is too harsh for my skin.

2.Be Gentle. Remember your body is your temple! Don’t get crazy pressing down with any of your body tools because it may cause tearing, inflammation, and other damage to the skin that can onset a myriad of issues such as eczema breakouts, psoriasis, dry skin, acne breakouts and more. So just run your tools over your body with a very small amount of pressure. It should NOT hurt; it should simply feel like a nice scrub. Also, be extremely gentle on areas where the skin is typically much thinner than other parts of your body such as around your breasts, neck, under arms, and lady (or man!) parts.

3. Pick the Right Body Wash for Your Skin. First off, do NOT use drugstore bar soap. I hate this super cheap bar soap. It seriously is the worst thing for all skin, period, whether it’s on your face or body. If you absolutely insist on using a bar to cleanse, use this one from Rainwater Botanicals or another natural soap bar that avoids abrasive and irritating sulfates. For my sensitive skin, I prefer to use this one made from Olive Oil that’s hydrating and gentle; just be sure to keep it in the fridge as it’s so soft and melts at room temperature. Otherwise, most of the time I use a creamy body wash such as the amazing Seaweed Body Wash I reviewed awhile back by Astara Skincare which is incredibly gentle, hydrating and sulfate-free. If you don’t want to spend much money on a body wash, there are some really affordable ones from SoftSoap that are Soap-free. I like this one. Just be sure to read the back and make sure it says “Soap free.” These are easily found at Target or any pharmacy type drugstore. If you’re not a fan of body tools, investing in a body scrub with hydrating oils in it is a great way to combine exfoliation and cleansing. Sugar scrubs are more gentle than salt scrub, but jojoba beads are usually the most gentle even though they aren’t as natural as the former ones. Avoid scrubs that use bits and pieces of nuts or anything such as walnut or almond bits which can rip tiny holes in the skin, letting bacteria cause issues!

3. Don’t Over-Do It! This is the same concept as being gentle. Listen to your body! You don’t need to exfoliate for more than like 5 minutes maximum, and even that might be too much. Just listen to your skin and see what’s right for you.

4. Hydrate and Seal In Moisture. Remember to use a hydrating, preferably sulfate-free formula for your body wash for optimal hydration. Then, when you exit the bath / shower, pat dry yourself, but don’t worry if you’re still damp. Actually, it’s better if you are. If you really want to get intense about it, you can apply your moisturizer directly while you’re standing in the shower and before drying off. Keep in mind, you’ll need to work harder to help your moisturizer sink in because of the water, but the overall effects are worth it. Apply body moisturizer right away to seal in moisture. Be sure to use a lotion, cream or balm that includes moisturizing vegetable oils, plant and nut butters, and other beneficial extracts for nutrient and hydration. Also, spend some time massaging it into your skin to improve circulation and really let in sink into your skin rather than sitting on it. Good moisturizers include this one from Max Green Alchemy for sensitive, dry or those who have skin disorders or conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Otherwise, a nice body oil like this one from Tallulah Jane or any cream, lotion or body oil that includes beneficial oils, butters and extracts should work fine. Go with a serum or light lotion if you have oily or breakout prone body skin. I like this one from Cetaphil.

So that’s it!

It may take some time to get used to this new routine, but over time, your skin will thank you for it by looking well hydrated, firmer (less cellulite!), more glowy and smooth.

Go Green with EkoMiko Luxury Intimate Massage Candles!

I was contacted by the very gracious Bradley from EkoMiko Candles about doing a review on these and, at first, I was a little hesitant. After all, it’s an intimate massage candle so I didn’t know how up my alley that would be, but I am very glad I decided to give it a go and was able to receive this lovely candle with an impressive message!

First off, it’s seriously so much more than just a luxury candle.

It’s made of 100% natural coconut butter wax and other natural, organic and eco certified ingredients to nourish and feed your skin for massage or as a hand / body balm.

Check here to read more about the ingredients.

The candle wax is a lot softer than your typical candle. Actually, it feels more like a body balm than a candle. I used a bit to moisturize my hands and it worked really well, whether the candle was lit or not. The candle I received, EkoHeroine, has a very feminine floral scent that is really nice and uplifting. They also have EkoHero, a scent that seems to be aimed more toward men and/or as a night time scent, that I received a small sample of and which is much more musky and masculine (obviously) than the EkoHeroine scent. I actually prefer the EkoHero scent, to be honest, but they are both really well-scented nonetheless.

The box packaging itself is seeded, meaning it can be planted directly into the ground and wild flowers will grow from it!

How cool is that?!

As if that wasn’t enough, the jar is made of recycled wine bottles, with a thin wood wick, and something I’ve never heard of before; the leaflets that come with this candle are made not from paper, but stone! It’s pretty shocking when you actually get to feel the little fold out leaflets because they are really glossy and very soft. Nothing about it says stone at all. Technology has come a LONG way if this is what they can make with stone!

That’s right; ^ this paper is made from stone!

Crazy, right? I thought so too!

I really love the overall message of this product. It really seems to promote a healthier, greener, more earth-friendly lifestyle and I love that. I only used this once for massage, much to my boyfriend’s displeasure, and only for his hands, but I felt the effect was really nice. I feel like this is literally a body balm in candle form. The fact that it’s meant for couples’ type massage is really awesome, but I love that the massage itself helps your skin soak up the impressive ingredients and the scent allows for a totally relaxing experience.

Although I think that $59 USD is extremely steep for any kind of candle, I do feel that this candle certainly offers more than your typical candle in every aspect. It’s truly an all-inclusive earth friendly product that I really love with a scent I will continue to enjoy during bath time and relaxing evenings at home without worry of inhaling unfriendly chemicals, damaging the ozone, endangering plants or chopping down many trees.

The price truly is the only drawback to this candle…other than their really awkward demo video which I can’t wrap my head around; it just seems bizarre, creepy (especially the staring bit), and a bit ludicrous that a woman would be like that in any situation, ever, and I really hope it’s supposed to be funny. Otherwise, if you are marketing to women, I just don’t really get it. (sorry! Lol. It made me giggle, but then maybe I’m just immature like that.)

I feel like a demo video would be better served if you highlighted the incredible nature that is encompassed in this product as opposed to random chick moisturizing in a suggestive way because, in my opinion, that only works for adult and lingerie type retail sites. I get that it’s an intimate massage candle, but it just seemed a bit off point to me.

Okay, rant over and out!

Anyway, that aside, I do love the candle and the incredible feat they have achieved with their completely green, packaging and paper included, luxury massage candles that are definitely worth checking out.

Egyptian Magic Skin Cream Review

So, recently, I was very lucky to receive a very generous sample from Egyptian Magic to review for this blog. I actually had written them because I have been wanting to try this cream for a long time. Given the huge reputation they seem to have among cult beauty enthusiasts and makeup artists, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some to try so I could review it for you guys!

Product Claims : They have so many claims under their belt from celebrities, celeb makeup artists, etc. to testimonials of scar healing, wound healing, and the successful treatment of psoriasis and eczema, Egyptian Magic Skin Cream has been endorsed by celebrities, models and doctors alike.

…Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream “The People’s Choice” is made with the blessings and guidance of our ancestors and with the following pure ingredients: olive oil, bees wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, bee propolis and Divine love. Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream “The People’s Choice” is sold through upscale health food stores, homeopathic pharmacies, and estheticians’ offices. In addition gynecologists, plastic surgeons, homeopathic physicians, chiropractors from all over the world sell Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream “The People’s Choice.”…

My Experiences: I really have my reservations about products like these. Yes, I was so excited to try it given the cult-ish type devotion some people have to it, but I was also worried I might be disappointed. That being said, when I received it, I dove right in! I can now say I AM A BELIEVER! I really love love love this cream! I have had chronic dry skin patches on my arms and neck and this really helps with the dryness! I don’t know if it will cure the dryness over time, but I definitely see a huge difference in such a short amount of time. Where most lotions will moisturize the patches for the moment and return to patchiness an hour later, or worse make me peel. This cream hydrates and protects long term and my skin looks better the morning after instead of returning to its previous dry state!

Also, I can use this cream anywhere. I have tested this on my body with great results as well as my face, hands and hair. If you subscribe, you know I have pretty reactive acne-prone skin. This did NOT break me out! This really surprised me a lot because the consistency of this cream looks and FEELS a lot like petroleum jelly, although without the left behind residue or annoying oily feeling. On the contrary, it helped clear some little breakouts I had and gave me a glow in the morning when I put it on before bed! I used it twice as a hair mask before showering and shampooing it out and I really felt that my hair was softer, more manageable (especially in the detangling area where I constantly battle breakage!) and more nourished. I even used this once as an overnight lip treatment to help with some chapped lips to great effect!

Lastly, it features a host of much better-for-you ingredients and a little bit goes a long way! I truly love this cream. I think I will permanently stock this cream in my medicine cabinet as a healthier petroleum jelly replacement. The one thing I did not particularly like about this cream is the odd olive/honey mixture smell. It is sort of off putting and strange to my senses, but honestly, with all the benefits that this cream offers, I really couldn’t care less about the smell. It goes away once this cream sinks in anyhow and since I mostly wear it at night for overnight repair, I really do not care at all!

Who It’s For: I truly believe anyone can use this. From babies to adults, those with sensitive acne prone skin, dry skin or whatever type of skin you have, I really think anyone could benefit from this cream. It has such basic, recognizable and natural ingredients that I  believe it can be safe for use on children and young toddlers.

Honey is great for hydrating thirsty
  • Royal Jelly –  Royal jelly, a natural secretion from worker bees, provides great health and skin benefits including supporting skin cell regeneration and tissue repair, wound healing, and balancing hormones (including during that time of the month!) in order to prevent skin emergencies like breakouts!

Also known for antioxidant powers, olive oil protects against premature aging and offers a small amount of sun protection (DO NOT USE AS A SUNBLOCK/SUNSCREEN REPLACEMENT! NOT ENOUGH PROTECTION TO BE USED AS A REPLACEMENT- STILL WEAR SUNSCREEN/SUNBLOCK THANKS!).

Final Thoughts:

I really feel that this cream lived up to my expectations and then some. Not only did it soothe the dry skin on my body, it also helped clear a breakout I had on my chin, healed my chapped lips, moisturized my hands, and nourished my damaged hair! I haven’t really had a chance to try it on any cuts or scrapes, but I have a feeling it would work great! I really love that this cream has a short list of ingredients that I can easily recognize. I don’t have to google anything on the list to figure out what it is and I love that because I really feel secure using this on myself and others, including when my younger brother visits and takes any one of his frequent falls during sports. I don’t have to think twice about using it. I actually already ordered a replacement jar of this cream – 1 to keep in my medicine cabinet for emergencies and 1 for the dry spots on my body. I highly recommend this cream to anyone and everyone, especially those who use petroleum jelly to try this instead as a healthier alternative!
