If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@StorybookBeauty), you may have seen this post around late August when I first received Alpha-H Liquid Gold.

I’ve been using it for a little over a month now and I am seriously impressed!

I honestly didn’t think I could love Alpha-H products any more than I already do, but clearly, they have done it again with this one!

Check out my original post on Alpha-H products here.

Liquid Gold Revita and Firming Solution

Okay, first off, don’t expect this to cure your skin overnight because it won’t.

What it will do is improve the overall texture, pore visibility, acne breakout frequency, scarring and tone of your skin over the course of about a month or more.

I’m actually still seeing improvements with continued use so I don’t want to say the benefits have stopped here because my skin just keeps getting better the more I use this.

It’s not something used every day. You only need to use this every other night. You apply it with a cotton round (or puff or whatever kind of cotton you like) like a kind of toner. It comes out just like water and it’s used alone. Wash your face, apply this and go to bed. Do NOT use this during the day. It has acid in it and it’s not really meant for use during the day so just do yourself a favor and don’t. I like to apply mine right before sleep so I’m not tempted to put a serum over. I’m just that obsessive about skincare and it feels wrong to put one thing, but trust me, that’s all you need.

If you’re using it for the first time, be prepared for some tingling. It doesn’t sting or anything, but the first few times my skin definitely felt it. Also, if you decide to use a scrub or face mask before applying it, the experience is more intensive so it’s up to you how extreme you want to be in the treatment, though if you have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s really quite the powerful overnight treatment. It’s really important to use this every other night as specified and not to use anything else over it. When I use it, I wash my face (right now I’m using the Vitalising Cleanser by Living Nature – See my Living Nature review here), apply the Liquid Gold with a cotton round and then apply the Pai Echium Eye Cream (see the review for that here). That’s it. On my non-Liquid Gold days, I’m using a serum after face wash with my eye cream, but nothing super complicated. I find that I need to use hydrating products a lot more with the season changing and also, the Liquid Gold causes minor dryness for me, but as long as I’m using nourishing products during the day and on my off days, my skin looks fantastic!

Actually, my skin is in the best shape that has been in years and I really thought all the rave reviews for Liquid Gold were B.S. Not because I don’t believe in the magic that is Alpha-H; they’re amazing, truly, but I just found it difficult to believe something could change my skin so much in only a month.

I highly recommend this to anyone without sensitive skin, especially those suffering from frequent breakouts like I normally do (though not lately!). This has made my skin smoother, my pores less visible, scarring is diminishing, more even skin tone, and my blackheads are shrinking into oblivion as we speak. This stuff is the real deal. Just remember to use it as specified on the bottle, use nourishing products when you’re not using it (on off days), and wait at least a month to see results. This is officially on my list of Holy Grail beauty products and I don’t say that lightly!  It’s a little on the pricey side, but it’s seriously worth it!

You can find Alpha-H on Beauty Bay – Here – or directly on the Alpha-H site – Here.

I’ve recently been using these 2 amazing serums in tandem from the Australian beauty brand Be In Awe – Amala Clearing Serum and their Codayati Renewal System Retinol Serum. If you’re unfamiliar with Be In Awe, they are a semi-natural skin care brand based in Australia that utilizes Ayurvedic  plants and herbs as well as modern science to help you achieve your best skin yet by giving you the best of both worlds (science and nature). In order to test their effectiveness, I was using them daily for the past month and a half and the results are fantastic!

amala Clearing serum

Firstly, the Amala Clearing Serum has some lovely qualities. It includes a variety of acids including salicylic and azelaic acids in order to exfoliate and detox clogged pores. They also include sandalwood for it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Before you freak out about the mention of acids, this serum is surprisingly very gentle. I didn’t experience any irritation, redness or even tingling during use of this. I really quite enjoy it as an emergency type serum for when you’re skin just breaks out all over the place. It’s also quite good for a variety of small spots. It works great to gently clear blemishes, but my only issue with it is that it takes forever to clear the bigger, under the skin type sore spots.

For small spots, you can expect to notice a small difference in a week and more noticeable differences in a month to your skin’s overall skin condition. As a spot treatment, this doesn’t work all that great, but it does help lessen inflammation and swelling in spots so I really like that about it. For those with larger, more troublesome spots, I would use Alpha-H’s Balancing Moisturizer & Gentle Exfoliant (See my review on that here), though if you have sensitive skin, I would stick with the Be In Awe. It really shines for those with sensitive skin because it gently heals and doesn’t cause irritation or dryness in the process as some other brands might so for that, I really love this serum. There are no miracles in this product, but if you can muster up a little patience, it will heal your skin.

codayati Renewal system

At night during this testing, I used the Codayati Renewal System Serum. This serum includes 0.5% encapsulated retinol and gotu kola to heal, smooth fine lines, and brighten skin. This is likely one of my favorite retinol type serums ever. Although I really don’t need the power of retinol in my life yet as I’m only 23, even I see a difference when using this. My skin just looks firmer, brighter, and more even toned. It also seemed to help calm blemishes as well as lighten small acne scars I have on my cheeks. When applied this feels like it’s slightly heating up, but in a warming sort of way as opposed to a burning sort of way so I still think it’s good for sensitive skin types. If you’ve had issues with using a retinol serum in the past, this one might just be the thing for you as it’s not nearly as abrasive as some of the other retinol serums I’ve tried in the past were.

Overall, both of these serums are great. While I wish they were a bit more natural, I also love that they’re offering the best of both worlds and above all, a simple gentle effectiveness. Also, both serums smell incredible – all herbal and spicy. The Clearing Serum especially smells like spicy cinnamon or something – totally delicious! I highly recommend these serums to those who have had trouble using abrasive treatment serums in the past or who have sensitive skin because these are super gentle and effective.

You can see all the Be In Awe products (as well as their other treatment serums) – Here!

Beauty Swap with Mystique @Beast and Beauty!

Awhile back, I did a beauty swap with Mystique over at BeastandBeauty and it finally arrived a week or so ago.

Check out all the amazing Aussie goodies I received!

From Australis eye shadows and palettes to lovely lip glosses, face masks, and 2 awesome palettes (see below), I certainly received a lot of amazing Australian beauty products to try out!

If you don’t follow her blog yet (if not, you totally should!), she features loads of fun posts on her life, her adorable dog and of course, beauty reviews and the like.

I always enjoy reading her posts and this swap was amazing; if you have the chance to do so, definitely do a beauty swap! It has been a great experience for me, but anyway, no more rambling, check out some of my favorites from the box of beauty goodies she sent me! – Please forgive me ahead of time for the lack of beautiful photos; I had left my camera for the weekend and these are all taken with my DroidX2 which certainly lacks in the camera department!

Australis “Red Carpet Ready” Makeup Palette

This actually came in a really pretty glossy box that had a nice red carpet type animation on it, but I really wanted to show you guys the amazing quality of the Australis packaging because, according to Mystique, this is a drugstore type brand in Australia which I can’t believe because the packaging is really good quality!

Also, the pigment quality on this palette is incredible; everything from the bronzer, blush and 5 eye shadows are all very creamy and pigmented. I am thinking I will update you all with swatches on this palette.

It’s quite nice!

CHI CHI Loose Minerals Eye Shadow Quad Greens

Next up is the CHI CHI Loose Minerals in “Greens” which features 4 different tints of green loose mineral shadows. Not only are these super pigmented shadows, but they come in this super handy round sifter type jar that allows you to shake out what you need. I’m not quite sure if this is a drugstore one or not, but I think it may be.

Savvy Essential Makeup Palette

Again with the amazing makeup palettes, we have the Savvy Essential Palette that features a blusher, bronzer and 8 eye shadow colors! These are all very pigmented as well, though much less creamy than the Australis palette, and also include a lot of shimmer/glitter in most of the powders on this palette. I’m not a huge fan of that so I passed this one on to my younger sister who was thrilled! Definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of that though because the quality of the powders is certainly amazing and again, I believe this is a drugstore one too!

Just Dish Tea & Ginger Handmade Body Soap

Lastly, one of my absolutely favorites from this box is the Just Dish Tea & Ginger Body Soap! It smells soo amazing and is very creamy to use! (Of course, I just jumped in the shower the night I received this to try it out!) It also does have some kind of walnut pieces or something within the bar for some exfoliation. I’m not a big fan of that as it tends to be too harsh on my skin, but I used it on my legs to nice effect and the scent is just lovely.

I do want to mention that I did have one other favorite, but no photo (see it in the first photo though!) as I tried it out the first 2 nights and it’s therefore completely gone now which is the Pores Be Gone Skin Clarifying Mud Mask. I just have to rave about this amazing mask for a second because it’s obviously drugstore, but it works just as well as some of the more expensive face masks that I have tried AND it smells like strawberries!
