I’ve recently discovered this new and super easy treatment for my eye area – vitamin E capsules!

I know it sounds weird, but it’s actually really effective on things like broken capillaries, dryness, fine lines, and even a bit of brightening to the entire eye area, but that may be due to the fact that it’s more hydrated.

I love to use these vitamin E capsules rather than straight vitamin E oil because they’re just the perfect size to pop open with the end of your tweezers  and squeeze out the tiniest amounts straight out of the capsule wherever you might need the extra nourishment. It does feel a bit oily and thick, but you only need a small amount and I use them right before bed so it doesn’t much bother me.

When I wake up in the morning, my capillaries have shrunk in size, the whole area of my eyes looks brighter, more hydrated, youthful and smooth!

I’ve been storing the capsules in an old Steamcream tin, but you can keep them in the bottle, however you like – I just put them in this tin because I thought it saved on space this way instead of trying to find a spot for the huge pill bottle they were initially in.

So, what do you guys think of using vitamin E for beauty?

Are there any DIY type beauty things you do that is re-purposed from something else like this?

I’d love to know in the comments!

Nip+Fab CC Cream

I’ve never tried anything from Nip+Fab, but it seems to be pretty popular in the UK and I know CC creams are gaining a lot of steam. I don’t know that I’m necessarily into jumping on that bandwagon, but this one looks like it might be okay.

Anyone tried it?

Rouge Bunny Rouge XXX Lip Plump Gloss

Rouge Bunny Rouge XXX Lip Plump Gloss

Last year I tried a few RBR products, including their Bronzing Liquid, Blush Wand ( Titian ), and their Tinted Moisturizer (see those reviews – here) – all of which were really lovely and I’ve been curious to try their other products. This is a new plumping lip gloss they’ve recently come out with and I love the packaging. I know, I’m kind of shallow when it comes to cosmetics at times, but whatever.

Invisible Pores Detox Mask

REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask

 REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask

I have heard a TON of good things about REN Skincare, but haven’t tried it for myself. They have a lot of different lines within their brand for different skin types and concerns (sensitive, acne prone, etc) and this is a face mask meant for combination skin.

ISUN – Blackhead Solvent Oil

ISUN Skincare Blackhead Solvent Oil

I tried a bunch of mini samples from the ISUN line a few months ago ( you can see that post – here ) and really liked their natural skincare products so I thought this would be an interesting product to try given that I always have trouble getting rid of blackheads, especially on my nose. I like that they give step by step instructions on how to remove blackheads while using this oil.

Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate

Although I don’t seem to have many wrinkles at this point in my life since I’m 23, I do like using anti-aging serums and creams anyway because I’m prepared like that, but often they tend to be on the heavy side. I love that this one is a retinoid serum because retinol seems to work really well on my combination skin and it is an ingredient that has a lot of benefits to its use from aiding in clearing acne to fine lines to hyper-pigmentation so I’m definitely interested in this as an all-in-one treatment serum!

Marvis – Amarelli Licorice Toothpaste

Marvis – Amarelli Licorice Toothpaste

I don’t know why, but I just think the idea of this toothpaste sounds so exotic and fun. I love the design of the tube and I also love that the formula includes licorice for cleansing teeth because licorice is actually an anti-inflammatory and would be beneficial for the entire mouth area, in my opinion.

Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil

Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil

I’ve seen SO many reviews on the REN Moroccan Rose Otto line of body products and they look absolutely lush! I love rose scented things when they are done right so I hope this line of one of those because I’m not a fan of that Grandma’s house potpourri scent at all. Lol.

ILIA – Mascara – Macao

ILIA Beauty – Mascara in Macao

Ever since I saw this on the Beauty Habit site a few weeks ago, I’ve been a bit obsessed with it and I really love ILIA Beauty in general (see my post on other ILIA Beauty products – here).  I just love the coppery color because it seems really unique and like it would brighten up the eye area a lot. I love deep black mascara, but I seem to be getting more into colors these days.

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer

Unfortunately, due to time constraints and my budget, I haven’t been able to try any Tarte products so far. I saw this the other day at Sephora and swatched it, though, and it does seem really lovely. You might know about my constant search for a good concealer that’s both hydrating, yet not oily, and this might be it. Plus, I’ve been really curious to try Tarte products for ages and this might be a good way to start!

Antonia Burrell – Cream Supreme Moisturizer

Antonia Burrell – Cream Supreme Moisturizer

Last summer, I first tried a mini sample of Antonia Burrell’s Natural Glow Cleansing Oil ( see that review – here ) and loved it. It is still my favorite cleansing oil to date and I’ll be purchasing a full size very soon, but I saw that they also carry this moisturize which seems like a great option for times when my skin gets a bit drier. Plus, this moisturizer is targeted at every skin problem you can think of from blackheads and acne to hyper-pigmentation and scarring. It’s expensive, but if it delivers as well as their cleansing oil, I think it’s definitely worth the price!

Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil

Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil

I spotted this on a recent trip to Sephora and was immediately enthralled. I think it would make a great body moisturizer and it has this lovely citrusy scent that’s really nice so I definitely want to try this one out! I love that it includes healing argan oil like many of the JM products do.

STEAMCREAM – Melody

STEAMCREAM – Melody

love Steamcream! Seriously. I recently ran out of the sample I received from them in Chagrin which I absolutely loved and was super depressed to find out they had discontinued it. Then I spotted this one on Beauty Habit and I love the design! It reminds me of Burberry and I just like that classic look a lot. Honestly, I’d buy all the Steamcreams if I could afford it. They’re just awesome. You can read my original SteamCream review – here.

Fresh Skincare Rose Face Mask

Fresh Skincare Rose Face Mask

I really like Fresh Skincare’s Soy line of products ( see my review for the Fresh Soy Cleanser – here ), but I’ve been yearning after this Rose Face Mask for ages. I am always swatching it at Sephora, but it’s so expensive ($50!) for a face mask that I don’t even know will be worth it. It smells amazing, just like cucumbers, but it has pieces of rose in it and looks a bit like tea or something. I will have it one day!

Liquid Gold Radiance

Liquid Gold Radiance Brightening Lotion

Liquid Gold Radiance Brightening Lotion

I’m a huge fan of Alpha-H products and you’ll know all about that if you’ve been following this blog for a small measure of time. They have super effective, awesome products. If this is all new to you, check out my original post on them – here. I’m not sure if this is a new Alpha-H product or maybe I just never noticed it before, but it sounds awesome! It’s meant to brighten skin (obviously) using their signature glycolic acid and also, in turn, help with diminishing the appearance of scarring and hyper-pigmentation. I don’t deal with a lot of scarring or brown spots, but I have a few and they bug. Maybe I’m neurotic (yep), but I’d like to treat that before it becomes an issue and who doesn’t like bright skin, right?

Christophe Robin – Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

Christophe Robin – Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

I saw this and just thought it looked like a really interesting product! It’s a scrub for your scalp and it’s meant to really cleanse. It’s meant for people who deal with itchy scalps or oily scalps a lot, but personally, I don’t deal with those issues much (unless it’s super hot out) and would likely use this as a weekly clarifying treatment instead of using a clarifying shampoo which I think can be stripping a lot of the time. I like that you massage it into the scalp because I think it would be helpful in hair growth, but that’s my own hypothesis, not a claim made by the company. Also, my boyfriend deals with an itchy oily scalp all the time so it might help him as well!

Naruko Beauty Supplements!

More Naruko goodness!

If you’ve been following for awhile, you’ll have heard all about my love for Naruko Skincare. Otherwise, you can see an overview of the brand here and some reviews on their products here and here!

So yesterday, and you’ll know already if you’re following me on Instagram, I was at an actual Naruko Boutique in Rowland Heights, California, picking up night jellies and I stumbled across these skin supplement drinks they’ve come out with!  One is meant to be taken during the day while the other is meant to be taken at night before bed.

Of course I had to try them!

They are both skin supplement drinks that focus on repairing the skin and encouraging collagen production, but the daytime version focuses on brightening the skin while the nighttime version works to firm the skin while you catch some beauty sleep.  The day one is the Berry Brightening Collagen Drink – Day and the night one is the Lychee Firming Collagen Drink – Night.

I tried the night one last night because, like an overexcited 5 year old, I just couldn’t wait and then I tried the day one this morning.

Firstly, I have to say that the sales rep completely lied on these or she has heinously bad taste. When I asked her what they taste like, she just told me they taste great. Mind you, I’d try them anyway with hopes of boosting collagen, glow and firming my skin up, but these taste like crap. I mean, it may just be personal preference because these remind me of what energy drinks taste like except much more potent and I hate the taste of energy drinks. The taste makes me feel like I’m drinking healthy gasoline because the taste seriously smacks you in the face. It is NOT subtle!

That being said, I think I may invest in a few of these.

I know, I sound kind of like a masochist given I’ve just compared the taste to drinking gasoline, but the vitamins in these are beneficial to skin health and overall bodily health actually.

The day version includes a variety of vitamins, minerals, fruit extracts and brightening plant extracts while the night version includes a similar variety of vitamins, minerals, and berries along with CoQ10 and other plant extracts known to firm and tone the skin.

No real effects seem to be showing up just yet as I’ve only tried them in the past 24 hours, but I do sense a glow in my skin, though that may be due to the 100+ F degree weather we’ve been suffering through here in Cali.

All in all, I still think I’ll try these again as I’m a fan of natural supplements, especially where vanity and skin health is concerned (yeah, I’m shallow like that, problem?). Plus, in the end, I think I’m just like most everyone else when it comes to these miracle drinks – easily pulled in by the promise of eternal youth in a bottle. Then again, maybe I’m alone in this, but at $5 a bottle, it’s not hugely expensive to try a week’s supply and see if I feel, or look, any different. That being said, I think these must be very new because I cannot find them on the Naruko USA website. They only seem to be available in Asia at the moment so I don’t know how they were available at the Naruko Boutique, but if you’d like to try them, you can find a pack of this day + night supplement combo here!

What do you think of beauty supplements?

Are they too gimmicky or have you seen any effects from taking supplements like this?

Astara Skincare Activated Sea Mineral Mask Review

Recently, I was very fortunate to receive 3 samples from Astara Skincare to try and review for you guys: the Radiance Renewal Moisturizer (see review here), this lovely face mask (as seen above), and the Aromatic Seaweed Body Wash (see review here).

I hope you enjoy!

Product Claims :

Rich in oligoelements and oxygenating, remineralizing exfoliating, and nourishing botanicals from the sea and land, this activated mask restores clarity, and vibrancy to dull and tired skin.

My Experiences:

This mask is really thick! A little bit goes a long way so although it does cost $30, I think it’s a good value because you don’t need very much of it. I don’t like the scent of this very much, but I really like the scrub + mask idea because I love multi-use products. I did like how clean my pores looked after using this mask, but I am not a big fan of menthol as it tends to dry my skin out and I don’t like the cooling effect. That’s just a personal preference; I know others who may love it. I made my mom try this, for instance, and she totally loved it and didn’t know what I was on about when I said I didn’t like the cooling effects. That being said, there are a LOT of beneficial ingredients in this mask from oatmeal for calming the skin to sage for breakouts and irritation and coupled with vitamin A, squalane and others to help encourage cell turnover and collagen production. It would be very beneficial for firming, anti-aging treatment or prevention, and as a nice spa treat. Wearing it certainly feels very luxurious. My only peeve about this is the use of D&C Green #5, FD&C Yellow #5 which I feel is just unnecessarily, but again, a personal preference. Other than that, this mask has a lot to offer in terms of beneficial ingredients, therapeutic benefits, and pore cleansing abilities.

Who It’s For:

Although it’s recommended for all skin types, I would recommend this more to those who are 30+ just because I think they will benefit more from this than someone younger. That is not to say that if you are younger, you can’t use this. You totally could and would likely benefit from it, but I just think this is more geared toward more mature ladies. Although I think it may be beneficial for those with acne, the menthol in this may be drying to some. It may work well for those who struggle with redness and/or rosacea.

Noted Ingredients:

  • Oatmeal – Calms redness, inflammation and breakouts.
  • Sage Extract – Beneficial for breakouts, calms inflammation and redness, and provides a tingling cooling effect.
  • Citrus Bioflavinoids – Brightens dull complexion and helps assist with cell turnover and repair scarring.
  • Squalane – Similar to natural skin oils and is readily accepted by body, hence making it an effective skin moisturizer

Formulated WithOUT:

  • Parabens
  • Harmful Preservatives

Product Pros:

  • Nice Tingling Effect
  • Detoxes the skin nicely while also exfoliating gently with jojoba beads (Scrub + Mask in 1)
  • Calms Inflammation and Redness
  • Cleans pores out
  • Encourages Cell Regeneration and Turnover

Product Cons:

  • Black Licorice type scent may be a turn off to some
  • Formula includes Menthol Crystals, D&C Green #5, FD&C Yellow #5 which may be unfavorable to some
Price: $30-$44

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I like this mask. It’s definitely not a favorite for me, but I can see how a lot of people would love this. I know so many people who love masks that are cooling (note : my mom is one of them!), but I am just not that into it. That being said, I love the pore cleansing powers this mask has and I may use it just for that alone. It would likely combat breakouts really well and the ingredients are promising to prevent premature wrinkles or treat any lines or sagging issues with aging skin. I also think it would calm redness a bit as well. I love that the mask includes beads so it’s a mask + scrub in one. I just like this sort of thing as I feel it adds value for the money spent. All in all, a pretty decent face mask for all types, but with emphasis on more mature skin.

Astara Skincare Radiance Renewal Intense Moisturizer Review

Recently, I was very fortunate to receive 3 samples from Astara Skincare to try and review for you guys: this moisturizer (as seen above), the Aromatic Seaweed Body Wash (see review here) and the Activated Sea Mineral Mask (see review here).

I hope you enjoy!

Product Claims :

The richest and most concentrated of our replenishing moisturizers, this triple-action treatment simultaneously stimulates cellular regeneration, protects against free radicals, and intensely hydrates to restore youthful suppleness and radiance to mature and very dry skins.

My Experiences:

I really enjoy the texture of this cream a lot. In fact, I was bummed when I discovered this is likely too rich for my skin type, at least at my age. As a girl in my 20’s with oily combination skin that is very acne prone and reactive, this was just too rich for me. It gave me 2 spots during my trial run with this which I was pretty bummed about. My mom, on the other hand, loves this cream and finds it gives her a next day glow if she uses it at night. I think it should mainly be used by those with more mature skin types or otherwise those with dry or combination to dry skin types. These are the types that will get the most out of the fantastic ingredients in this formula. There are lots of plant extracts that work to brighten the complexion while shea butter and sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) work well together to hydrate and firm the skin as they protect from free radicals. It is a very nourishing cream, though it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and it doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on the skin either. It is absorbed right away. I just wish my skin could handle it!

Who It’s For:

It says it’s for all skin types, but I would recommend this more for combination to dry, dry, and mature skin types.

Noted Ingredients:

  • Wild Yam & Evening Primrose – Very soothing, both of these ingredients are calming and nourishing to the skin. They also help with hormonal balance which is especially helpful during that lucky time of the month or those going through the change of life (menopause). Evening primrose is also known to brighten the complexion.
  • Shea Butter – A very hydrating ingredient, shea butter helps lock in moisture to the skin. It is very rich and provides protection against free radicals.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate – Also known as hyaluronic acid, this ingredient is naturally occurring in the body and helps to moisturize skin without being overly greasy or heavy. It helps regenerate cells, encourage collagen production, and is very easily absorbed by the skin.

Formulated WithOUT:

  • Parabens
  • Harmful Dyes and Preservatives

Product Pros:

  • Includes many nourishing ingredients in the formula for optimal hydration and suppleness.
  • Many plant extracts brighten and tone the skin for overall radiance
  • Evening primrose calms hormonal outbreaks while also moisturizing and calming the complexion.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) helps hydrate skin, assist with cell turnover, and encourage collagen production.
  • Light, Pleasant Scent
  • Creamy Smooth Texture

Product Cons:

  • Too Rich for Oily, Oily/Combination or some reactive acne prone skin types
  • May be Expensive to Some
Price: $53-$79

 Final Thoughts:

All in all, this cream is really great, just not great for me. Clearly it will do worlds of good for someone who has more mature skin or drier skin. If you have oily skin or acne prone skin, I would go with something a little lighter than this cream as I really feel this is much too rich for oilier skin types. It did make me break out a little during my testing (2 weeks), but it was not an allergic reaction and other than the 2 spots, there really was no irritation caused by this. I really wish that this would work with my skin because the consistency of this cream feels very luxurious and smooth, but thankfully, my mom now has a new cream and mask that she won’t stop raving about.
