I ♥ Spring Tag!

  1. Favourite spring nail polish? I don’t really have a solid favorite for all time, but my current is favorite is Tropicana Nights by Karma Organic Spa & You can see my review for it – here.
  2. What is your must-have lip colour this spring? My must-have lip color for Spring is Coral Dawn by Karen Murrell. I really love KM lipsticks for a number of reasons – they’re eco and completely biodegradable, 100% natural, and the colors are very beautiful and pigmented. Plus, they smell like cinnamon! You can see a bunch of her amazing lipstick colors – here.
  3. Show us your favourite spring dress! Hmm.. I don’t actually have one really, but this one is nice!
  4. What’s your favourite flower? My favorite flower used to be roses, but these days I really love dandelions and orchids.
  5. Favourite spring scarf/accessory? My favorite Spring accessory is probably my Coral Dawn lipstick by KM. I always feel like a nice lip color really brightens up your face.
  6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Make-up, fashion or both!)
  7. Favourite spring candle? I really like this one by EkoMiko Candles. It smells really floral and lovely; plus it’s very eco friendly and natural!
  8. Favourite body spray/perfume for spring? My favorite fragrance for Spring is the Parfums de Nicolai in L’eau a La Folie which I recently got for my birthday! It smells like coconut, vanilla and lime which feels very Spring/Summer to me! It really evolves as you wear it and smells light, but pleasant.
  9. What is spring like where you live? It’s pretty much either rainy and cool or on the hotter side of things. Living in Cali, you’ll find that the weather is really bi-polar here. It can be super hot one day and then ridiculously cold and rainy the next and it’s pretty much like that year round.
  10. What’s your favourite thing about spring? My favorite thing about spring is that we enjoy mostly warm days, but it’s not so hot that it’s miserable yet. Yay! Also, we get some nice Spring showers occasionally which I really enjoy. I also really love all the colors in fashion during this season.
  11.  Are you a spring cleaner? YES! It takes me forever to get around to doing it, but once it’s done, everything is super clean and I feel super accomplished!
  12. Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation? Nope not really. I’d like to visit Georgia, but we will see how that goes. I’m trying to pay off debt so that really cuts into my spending for trips and things, but eventually I will go to all the places I’d like to go and it shall be awesome!

I tag anyone who would like to do this Spring tag and please link your posts in the comments!

Otherwise, what’s your favorite part about Spring?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Lust List so I thought I’d do one with a specific theme – Spring!

I’m so excited about Spring and Summer, though I’m not excited about the weather turning super hot as it gets pretty scorching here in California, but it will be a nice change of pace from Winter and I’m looking forward to going to the beach and pool and all that jazz.

Aside from being excited about the weather, I’m really excited about the colors in Spring fashions. I am someone who habitually wears black, like all the damn time, but I am trying my best to change that this year and incorporate a lot more color into my wardrobe. I’ve had a look around online and here are some items I’m most excited about this Spring!

Image 1 of ASOS Tailored Dungarees

ASOS Tailored Dungarees

I’m not a huge fan of what ASOS calls Dungarees, but what I’d call overalls, though I really love  them tailored as they are above. I would totally wear that outfit because I love all things tailored. Perhaps it’s because I love the style of clothing from the early to mid 1900’s (think 1920s-1950s) and tailored clothing just reminds me of a time when ladies were proper and well mannered… or something. Not to say I don’t love modern times because I love having the right to vote and curse, but I guess tailored clothing all seems magical to this 90’s child. Even menswear has a certain mystique about it. Don’t believe me? Have your boyfriend put on a suit – doesn’t he seem even better looking than usual? You know I’m right 😉

Anyway, Here Are Some of My Favorite Tailored Styles. Some Are More Modern While Others Not so Much – I hope you enjoy!

What Do You Think of Tailored Clothing?

Do You Prefer Modern or More Classic Designs?

I’d Love to Know Your Thoughts in the Comments!

I’m not huge on fashion trends.

It’s not that I don’t like fashion because I love fashion; I just prefer to do it my way instead of following the trends of the runways or whichever. I feel like some of the trends are super unrealistic for everyday wear and then some only look good on certain body types (usually stick thin) and hence wouldn’t even look right if I tried them. For this reason, I always seem to be on my own strange, yet awesome trend schedule and that’s fine with me because I like having a unique style and I don’t mind standing out a bit.  After all, variety is the spice of life and you should have fun being who you are, whether that means following a trend or not.  Just make sure you have fun and that it’s a style or look that you really like and feel confident in. That’s not to say I never like things that are on trend because I usually like a lot of them. I’m just saying I don’t really care if I follow them to a T one way or the other.

With that, here are some styles I’m excited about this coming Spring & Summer that may or may not be on trend 😉

The Ballerina Look

Pinned Image

Uploaded by Coco Blanchard via Pinterest

I’ve always felt like ballerinas have an ethereal grace about them in the way they can control their bodies, but also in the outfits they wear. From tutus to leotards to less conventional styles, there’s just something really classic and beautiful about mixing classic ballet pointe shoes with anything, really.

Chloé Ballerina Flats - Masha Dancer

Chloé Ballerina Flats – Masha Dancer

Take these ballerina flats by Chloé. They’re super fashionable and wearable for us who aren’t actual ballerinas, but they still have that awesome look to them. It reminds me of when I was in high school – I had these black ballerina flats that I’d gotten at Nordstroms. I don’t even remember who made them at this point, but they had ribbon lacing all the way up the ankle and they made me feel so light footed and lovely all the time. *Sigh* Those are some shoes I literally wore into the ground until my mom threw them out because they were falling apart so badly.

Brightly Colored Clothing & Accessories

Image 1 of Cambridge Satchel Company Exclusive to Asos 11" Coral Fluro Leather Satchel

Cambridge Satchel Company Exclusive to Asos 11″ Coral Fluro Leather Satchel

I’m really loving bright Springy colors at the moment. I know that’s pretty on trend which is cool!

I actually first spotted this awesome Cambridge Satchel over on Minnie Mélange, only I prefer it in the coral color as opposed to the cool green color she picked up.

Image 1 of TFNC Swing Dress in Jewelled Crochet

TFNC Swing Dress in Jewelled Crochet – ASOS

I’m loving really flowy material for Spring and I always love lace type tops and dresses, but I’d love this dress even more with a brightly colored pink skinny belt or something to make it a bit more bright.

SURRENDER BOW PLATFORMS – TopShop

Brightly colored platforms are a fantastic way to add color to otherwise basic looking outfits that include a lot of black, beige or white and I really love these bow platforms! They also come in a funky pink color as well.

Braids

Unique Loose Braid From sincerelykinsey.blogspot.com via Pinterest

I’ve always loved braids, but with this season and the amount of never ending ways people have recently come out with just astounds and enthralls me. From fishtails to milkmaid style braids, I just find them all so lovely and there are tons of fantastic blogger tutorials online to learn how to do them all!

Crisp Spring Nail Designs

Hannah Miller from Instagram via Pinterest

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know how nail inferior I am, but ever since I’ve joined Pinterest and seen how amazing some of these nail designs are, I can’t help but get inspired to try some of them myself.

From lamorechanel.tumblr.com via Pinterest

From salt manicures to these incredible jeweled ones, chevron designs, and other variations of the french manicure, it looks so fun and creative! I must admit that since starting this blog and discovering nail art, I have become a bit more ambitious when it comes to painting my nails and doing designs on them. Not saying I can do any of it or do any of it well, but I can try!

Colored Mascaras

Nvey Eco Volumising Mascara | Spirit Beauty Lounge

Nvey Eco Volumising Mascara | Spirit Beauty Lounge

I’ve been some kind of obsessed with colored mascaras for the better part of 3 months now, especially the copper hued Macao from ILIA Beauty that I recently spotted at Beauty Habit {see it below}. This one from Nvey Eco also looks promising and comes in black, brown AND blue!  There are also some pretty amazing color options from Sephora and Make Up Forever as well.

A Natural Glow

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I’m not a huge fan of self tanner most days. When it looks awesome it looks really great, but for everyday looks, I just can’t be bothered to keep applying it without getting sloppy so I prefer a body oil or lotion with a bit of shimmer in it and May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil is perfect for that, especially in the Spring and Summer when it’s fun to have that slightly bronzed golden look! It smells heavenly { like chocolate! } and makes skin look naturally glowy and golden because it hydrates really well and includes shimmery mica in the formula. It’s definitely a holy grail body product for me as far as packaging, natural formula, and overall effect on the skin both superficially and beauty benefit wise. You can see my full review for it – here. If you absolutely prefer self tanner, a really great one is the one by TanOrganic and you can see my review for that – here.

Nudes, Pinks, & Nudey Pinks!

Image 1 of Pieces Heart Print Cami

Pieces Heart Print Cami – ASOS

Even when it’s not Spring, I love nude and pink colored pieces because they just go with absolutely everything and they look super feminine and romantic which I really love, given my period film obsession. It’s just the ultimate chic, womanly look in my mind, I suppose.

Neons

Neon Yellow Power Play Blazer – Nasty Gal

Normally I really hate neon, but for some reason lately, I am loving neon yellow, blue, pink and some shades of green as long as they’re paired with grey, black, or white. It just goes, am I right?

Wedge Sneakers

Hilight Wedge Sneaker – Black – Nasty Gal

In spite of the fact that my boyfriend thinks I’m an absolute lunatic for loving them, I really love this whole platform/ wedge sneaker trend! Ironically enough, I had some platform sneakers way back in the day when I was like 10-11. I’m not sure where I got them, but I remember I thought I was so cool because the Spice Girls wore platform everything and I finally had my own! Shortly after, my little sister hijacked them so she could look taller and I’ve no idea what happened to them now, but just the idea that I could get that Spice Girl style back gets my heart pumping! Anyone else relate to this? No?

Swimwear

Image 4 of ASOS Caged Bow Back Swimsuit

Caged Bow Back Swimsuit – ASOS

The last thing I’m really excited for is swimwear because I feel like the swimsuits that have come out lately have been edgier and edgier and the cuts all look really fun and unique. The one above is one such style. Doesn’t it look cool?! The pieces tie in the back so it looks all bandage-esque. You know it’s a good day when one piece swimwear is looking pretty awesome as opposed to mom-like.

Dancing Mesh 2 Piece Suit – ECO Swimwear – Maaji Swimwear

I’ve actually never seen anything like the bathing suit above where the top is all loose fitting on top. It looks so comfortable and lounge-worthy which I really like about it. I think a lot of girls, especially plus ones want to wear these type of 2 piece suits, but without them hugging their body in an unflattering way. I love that this one is loose fitting because it can be flattering for many different body types.

Beach Bunny Swimwear – Time is Love Bikini – Orchid Boutique

This is another great style that’s really unique. It’s not as diverse as the others, but I really love the bead work and it’s perfect for those who get really tan in the summer because the color looks great against tan skin tones.

Malai Swimwear EXCLUSIVE – Gates of Chic One Piece Suit

I’m really happy that one piece bathing suits are getting less and less boring! This one has such a cool design on the back and I like having a nice one piece around for swimming as 2 piece suits just fall off when you’re trying to do laps. I’m just saying – a girl’s got to be practical!

Block Party Bikini – Nasty Gal

This last suit is a big trend for the spring and that’s color blocking. I don’t actually much like the color block trend in clothing as I think it looks a bit too 1985 for comfort, but I really like it here on this suit. It just works!

For me, half the fun of Fall/Winter is being able to wear scarves, jackets, hats and gloves. Living in California leaves little opportunity to wear adorable coats, gloves, scarves and boots because it’s simply too hot. So, when we finally hit October (which is when the weather finally cools down here), I am giddy with excitement to pull out all my fall and winter clothes which inspired me to post on my favorites. Then, I thought, I wonder what my fellow bloggers’ favorites are? and thus spawned this post! See my favorites for winter below and read on to see some of my favorite bloggers’ favorites as well!

Resident Evil: Retribution Poster

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a lovely day! I’m super excited because I get to go see Resident Evil:Retribution today! On another hand, I am kind of bummed that I missed International Chocolate Lover’s Day (or something) which was on Wednesday. Any old excuse to eat more chocolate is fine by me! Anyhow, today’s fashion finds are inspired by Claire Redfield (movie and video game versions!). I hope you enjoy and let me know if you’ll be watching the film or not or how it was if you already saw it last night.

Nora James Leather Double Strap Harness Belt

Nora James Leather Double Strap Harness Belt; $179

I feel like this one should be on both this post and my previous post for fashion finds inspired by Alice (which you can see – here!) because they’ve both technically worn harnesses, but alas, I didn’t think of it until now. Isn’t this one lovely though?!

Urban Decay - Naked Palette

Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow Palette; $50

Honestly, who doesn’t want this palette? It’s the perfect palette for any day every day makeup looks. I can’t count the ways and days I’ve pined for this one! Plus, I think it’s so appropriate for Claire because she looks so natural.

Beige Scoop Neck Tank Top; £6.00

Gotta have those basics! Claire wears a lot of earthy tones and beige colors so this is a great piece to highlight that. Plus, it’s super affordable and looks comfy which you really need to be if you’re out to kill some zombies, you know?

Simply Flawless Pressed Powder

Alicia Silverstone for Juice Beauty – Simply Flawless Pressed Powder; $24

Tripp NYC -Fishnet Underlay Jeans in Black – $65

I’ve seen Claire with ripped jeans in almost every Resident Evil. Though it’s not too prominent in the VG version of her; in the VG she actually sports ripped jean shorts instead, but I like this look better, especially with how these have the fishnet underlay. It’s punk chic!

Beige Notch Lapel Biker PU Leather Zip Vest

Beige Notch Lapel Biker PU Leather Zip Vest; $36.16

I love the sort of punk biker look that Claire has in the films. She looks so improvised, but it really works. I love the down to earth, yet punky look they give her!

Red Beige Pocket Scoop Neck Lace Back Vest

Faded Coral Scoop Neck Tank; $27

Again, with the basics. Every female (and males too, actually) almost always has some kind of casual tank on at some point. Basic earthy tones really seem to be the look of Claire (at least in my mind).

Knitted Cord Bracelets - Set of four in Chocolate and Caramel Brown Shades

Knitted Cord Cuff Bracelet; $33.88

As I said, earth tones seem to be a theme with Claire in the films for me. And it could be that it’s just me, but whatever, I really like it!

So that’s all for my Claire Fashion Finds; what do you guys think?

Is there anything in particular that you imagine Claire Redfield to be wearing ?

Will you be going out to see Resident Evil:Retribution tonight like me?

Coffee Bean Cowl Scarf by KnotaGeek; $25

I absolutely love the Millennium series, better known as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I know there’s a lot of controversy about it since the films have been released, but I still love the character of Lisbeth Salander. Not because I’m, as some bloggers have put it – “trying to turn a rape victim into a fashion statement” – but rather because I think that Lisbeth Salander is such a great representation of a courageous women. It’s because she is a victim of a lot of things, but she doesn’t become a victim or lie down in defeat ever that people love her so much. I’m not discrediting or discounting the seriousness of rape in any way, but I am saying that I (and likely many others) admire the character of LS because she defies her circumstance. She is more than she appears to be. She is intelligent, prodigal, beautiful (though she doesn’t think so), brave, talented, and honorable. And she does it all without the help of anyone. She is a survivor and I think that’s why a lot of women (and probably men too) admire her so much. Just as an FYI, these fashion picks are based more on the books than the films, though I did put some pieces in that reference them. So, with that being said, this is just a fun post on what I imagine LS fashion to be like and I’ve also used the films as reference. Also, since fall is almost here (thank goodness!), I feel like all the scarves, pants and things are finally appropriate to post on..and because I also love the scarf + leggings combo look a lot! Try not to take it too seriously (for all you critics out there ;-)).
