I’m not huge on fashion trends.

It’s not that I don’t like fashion because I love fashion; I just prefer to do it my way instead of following the trends of the runways or whichever. I feel like some of the trends are super unrealistic for everyday wear and then some only look good on certain body types (usually stick thin) and hence wouldn’t even look right if I tried them. For this reason, I always seem to be on my own strange, yet awesome trend schedule and that’s fine with me because I like having a unique style and I don’t mind standing out a bit.  After all, variety is the spice of life and you should have fun being who you are, whether that means following a trend or not.  Just make sure you have fun and that it’s a style or look that you really like and feel confident in. That’s not to say I never like things that are on trend because I usually like a lot of them. I’m just saying I don’t really care if I follow them to a T one way or the other.

With that, here are some styles I’m excited about this coming Spring & Summer that may or may not be on trend 😉

The Ballerina Look

I’ve always felt like ballerinas have an ethereal grace about them in the way they can control their bodies, but also in the outfits they wear. From tutus to leotards to less conventional styles, there’s just something really classic and beautiful about mixing classic ballet pointe shoes with anything, really.

Chloé Ballerina Flats - Masha Dancer

Chloé Ballerina Flats – Masha Dancer

Take these ballerina flats by Chloé. They’re super fashionable and wearable for us who aren’t actual ballerinas, but they still have that awesome look to them. It reminds me of when I was in high school – I had these black ballerina flats that I’d gotten at Nordstroms. I don’t even remember who made them at this point, but they had ribbon lacing all the way up the ankle and they made me feel so light footed and lovely all the time. *Sigh* Those are some shoes I literally wore into the ground until my mom threw them out because they were falling apart so badly.

Brightly Colored Clothing & Accessories

I’m really loving bright Springy colors at the moment. I know that’s pretty on trend which is cool!

I actually first spotted this awesome Cambridge Satchel over on Minnie Mélange, only I prefer it in the coral color as opposed to the cool green color she picked up.

I’m loving really flowy material for Spring and I always love lace type tops and dresses, but I’d love this dress even more with a brightly colored pink skinny belt or something to make it a bit more bright.

SURRENDER BOW PLATFORMS – TopShop

Brightly colored platforms are a fantastic way to add color to otherwise basic looking outfits that include a lot of black, beige or white and I really love these bow platforms! They also come in a funky pink color as well.

Braids

I’ve always loved braids, but with this season and the amount of never ending ways people have recently come out with just astounds and enthralls me. From fishtails to milkmaid style braids, I just find them all so lovely and there are tons of fantastic blogger tutorials online to learn how to do them all!

Crisp Spring Nail Designs

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know how nail inferior I am, but ever since I’ve joined Pinterest and seen how amazing some of these nail designs are, I can’t help but get inspired to try some of them myself.

From salt manicures to these incredible jeweled ones, chevron designs, and other variations of the french manicure, it looks so fun and creative! I must admit that since starting this blog and discovering nail art, I have become a bit more ambitious when it comes to painting my nails and doing designs on them. Not saying I can do any of it or do any of it well, but I can try!

Colored Mascaras

I’ve been some kind of obsessed with colored mascaras for the better part of 3 months now, especially the copper hued Macao from ILIA Beauty that I recently spotted at Beauty Habit {see it below}. This one from Nvey Eco also looks promising and comes in black, brown AND blue!  There are also some pretty amazing color options from Sephora and Make Up Forever as well.

A Natural Glow

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Radiance Oil

I’m not a huge fan of self tanner most days. When it looks awesome it looks really great, but for everyday looks, I just can’t be bothered to keep applying it without getting sloppy so I prefer a body oil or lotion with a bit of shimmer in it and May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff Radiance Oil is perfect for that, especially in the Spring and Summer when it’s fun to have that slightly bronzed golden look! It smells heavenly { like chocolate! } and makes skin look naturally glowy and golden because it hydrates really well and includes shimmery mica in the formula. It’s definitely a holy grail body product for me as far as packaging, natural formula, and overall effect on the skin both superficially and beauty benefit wise. You can see my full review for it – here. If you absolutely prefer self tanner, a really great one is the one by TanOrganic and you can see my review for that – here.

Nudes, Pinks, & Nudey Pinks!

Even when it’s not Spring, I love nude and pink colored pieces because they just go with absolutely everything and they look super feminine and romantic which I really love, given my period film obsession. It’s just the ultimate chic, womanly look in my mind, I suppose.

Neons

Neon Yellow Power Play Blazer – Nasty Gal

Normally I really hate neon, but for some reason lately, I am loving neon yellow, blue, pink and some shades of green as long as they’re paired with grey, black, or white. It just goes, am I right?

Wedge Sneakers

Hilight Wedge Sneaker – Black – Nasty Gal

In spite of the fact that my boyfriend thinks I’m an absolute lunatic for loving them, I really love this whole platform/ wedge sneaker trend! Ironically enough, I had some platform sneakers way back in the day when I was like 10-11. I’m not sure where I got them, but I remember I thought I was so cool because the Spice Girls wore platform everything and I finally had my own! Shortly after, my little sister hijacked them so she could look taller and I’ve no idea what happened to them now, but just the idea that I could get that Spice Girl style back gets my heart pumping! Anyone else relate to this? No?

Swimwear

Caged Bow Back Swimsuit – ASOS

The last thing I’m really excited for is swimwear because I feel like the swimsuits that have come out lately have been edgier and edgier and the cuts all look really fun and unique. The one above is one such style. Doesn’t it look cool?! The pieces tie in the back so it looks all bandage-esque. You know it’s a good day when one piece swimwear is looking pretty awesome as opposed to mom-like.

Dancing Mesh 2 Piece Suit – ECO Swimwear – Maaji Swimwear

I’ve actually never seen anything like the bathing suit above where the top is all loose fitting on top. It looks so comfortable and lounge-worthy which I really like about it. I think a lot of girls, especially plus ones want to wear these type of 2 piece suits, but without them hugging their body in an unflattering way. I love that this one is loose fitting because it can be flattering for many different body types.

Beach Bunny Swimwear – Time is Love Bikini – Orchid Boutique

This is another great style that’s really unique. It’s not as diverse as the others, but I really love the bead work and it’s perfect for those who get really tan in the summer because the color looks great against tan skin tones.

Malai Swimwear EXCLUSIVE – Gates of Chic One Piece Suit

I’m really happy that one piece bathing suits are getting less and less boring! This one has such a cool design on the back and I like having a nice one piece around for swimming as 2 piece suits just fall off when you’re trying to do laps. I’m just saying – a girl’s got to be practical!

Block Party Bikini – Nasty Gal

This last suit is a big trend for the spring and that’s color blocking. I don’t actually much like the color block trend in clothing as I think it looks a bit too 1985 for comfort, but I really like it here on this suit. It just works!

i love the wedge sneakers but wondering if it is as comfortable as real sport shoes. Yeah, i love everything that makes me look a little taller.>< i used to be wearing ballerina shoes all the time and i looked short compare to my friends that wears high heels.

i don't really like self tanner as fairer skin looks better on asian skin like mine.

Fell for the Surrender Bow Platforms. I agree, follow your own fashion trends instead 🙂 Being stick thin is not necessary either, feminine curves are really pretty. I wish I had more in fact. xoxo KJ

I know! I love bows! I love following what I like rather than any one trend. And I think all body types are beautiful in their own way. I didn’t mean to knock people that are thin or not thin, just to say that I’m not and can’t pull off some looks that thinner women could. Not to say I like one or the other better. I think healthy and fit, however you look, is best ❤

I get what you are saying! I like variation in fashion. Would be boring if everyone wore the same. I like reading your posts, as you say what you mean 🙂

Healthy and fit is much better! Having a toned body looks great. I really admire fit bodies 🙂 🙂 Have you heard about Cindy Whitmarsh?? She´s got an amazing fit body.

I love this post. I almost love all the styles, but my fav are: ballerina style — definitely my style — especially in terms of layering cute fabrics and the braid.

I love everything from your list! My fave would be the braids, nude pink, nail polish, the one piece swimwear (but I gotta need to work on the body first lol), and wedge sneakers! Wedge sneakers is everywhere, I haven;t tried them but I sure would love to! 😀
