I’ve recently been using these 2 amazing serums in tandem from the Australian beauty brand Be In Awe – Amala Clearing Serum and their Codayati Renewal System Retinol Serum. If you’re unfamiliar with Be In Awe, they are a semi-natural skin care brand based in Australia that utilizes Ayurvedic  plants and herbs as well as modern science to help you achieve your best skin yet by giving you the best of both worlds (science and nature). In order to test their effectiveness, I was using them daily for the past month and a half and the results are fantastic!

amala Clearing serum

Firstly, the Amala Clearing Serum has some lovely qualities. It includes a variety of acids including salicylic and azelaic acids in order to exfoliate and detox clogged pores. They also include sandalwood for it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Before you freak out about the mention of acids, this serum is surprisingly very gentle. I didn’t experience any irritation, redness or even tingling during use of this. I really quite enjoy it as an emergency type serum for when you’re skin just breaks out all over the place. It’s also quite good for a variety of small spots. It works great to gently clear blemishes, but my only issue with it is that it takes forever to clear the bigger, under the skin type sore spots.

For small spots, you can expect to notice a small difference in a week and more noticeable differences in a month to your skin’s overall skin condition. As a spot treatment, this doesn’t work all that great, but it does help lessen inflammation and swelling in spots so I really like that about it. For those with larger, more troublesome spots, I would use Alpha-H’s Balancing Moisturizer & Gentle Exfoliant (See my review on that here), though if you have sensitive skin, I would stick with the Be In Awe. It really shines for those with sensitive skin because it gently heals and doesn’t cause irritation or dryness in the process as some other brands might so for that, I really love this serum. There are no miracles in this product, but if you can muster up a little patience, it will heal your skin.

codayati Renewal system

At night during this testing, I used the Codayati Renewal System Serum. This serum includes 0.5% encapsulated retinol and gotu kola to heal, smooth fine lines, and brighten skin. This is likely one of my favorite retinol type serums ever. Although I really don’t need the power of retinol in my life yet as I’m only 23, even I see a difference when using this. My skin just looks firmer, brighter, and more even toned. It also seemed to help calm blemishes as well as lighten small acne scars I have on my cheeks. When applied this feels like it’s slightly heating up, but in a warming sort of way as opposed to a burning sort of way so I still think it’s good for sensitive skin types. If you’ve had issues with using a retinol serum in the past, this one might just be the thing for you as it’s not nearly as abrasive as some of the other retinol serums I’ve tried in the past were.

Overall, both of these serums are great. While I wish they were a bit more natural, I also love that they’re offering the best of both worlds and above all, a simple gentle effectiveness. Also, both serums smell incredible – all herbal and spicy. The Clearing Serum especially smells like spicy cinnamon or something – totally delicious! I highly recommend these serums to those who have had trouble using abrasive treatment serums in the past or who have sensitive skin because these are super gentle and effective.
