Thoughts on Aurora, Colorado This Morning…

If you’re not in the USA, you may not yet have heard about the tragic and heinous shooting that happened at a Dark Knight Rises movie premiere in Aurora, Colorado.

A young man in his 20’s dressed in all black with a gas mask and, because of the nature of this film, was assumed to be dressed up for the movie premiere and nobody gave much more thought to it.

Later, he fired off many shots, apparently imitating a scene in which a shooting takes place. He killed 14 and injured several others (around 20, I think) in the theater before police were called and he was apprehended.

I’m pretty shocked by this and I don’t know what possesses people to want to inflict so much pain and violence on others, in a movie theater no less. It’s just senseless and evil. And apparently, they rushed court for him this morning which is really insanely fast, but I’m guessing they prepared for the ultimate calls for action that are likely to be heard around the US this morning. Maybe they will rush death penalty on him for his blatant crimes of domestic terrorism. One can only hope.

We can only assume this is the work of someone deeply disturbed, but my thoughts go out to the victims and their families this morning and the realization that it seems all too likely our movie experiences won’t be the same again for awhile.

omg that is just insane..and horrible. My boyfriend was theorizing that this guy wanted to be recognized as a celebrity so he calculated this tragedy on purpose. If that’s true, how totally disturbed. Also, I read this quote from his mom, she didn’t even question them when they told her. Her response was “I’m sure it was him.” and it’s like wow, what must he have been like for her to be so certain and not question it ? It’s absolutely terrifying and very sad.

It sure is! I was arguing with my husband that if she knew he was that horrible. Or a threat why didnt she warn authorities and his argument was that without knowing about weaponry what could they have done… Either way horrific

Yeah I agree! It’s kind of a tough spot to be in though if it’s your kid who is deranged and disturbed, but at the same time, she now has to deal with the fact that he murdered over 10 people in one moment in cold blood. So I guess she’s paying for it now.
