Eat Your Water: Tips for Glowing, Clear Skin and A Healthy Body

So I’ve recently begun reading The Water Secret: The Cellular Breakthrough to Look and Feel 10 Years Younger by Dr. Howard Murad (the same Dr. who founded Murad Skincare) and it has changed the way I feel about everything.

Okay so not everything, but a lot of things, especially when it comes to my skin, looking and feeling young for as long as possible and also, my ideas about health, weight loss, and diet.

One of the main topics in Dr. Murad’s book is eating your water.

He says that although many of us function under the assumption that if we get 8 glasses of water a day, then we are properly hydrated, but that this is not necessarily so.

He also states that drinking water will not necessarily increase your cell hydration, which is where it really counts. Cellular hydration is what will not only make you look younger on the outside, but also feel younger, lose weight, and prevent many diseases and illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and more.

Instead of gulping down bottled water, he advises many of us to get our water from the foods we eat because they are encapsulated water, essentially, and include many nutrients that our bodies need in a way that is readily available for absorption when consumed through foods we eat as opposed to just drinking water alone.  This is what he says will ultimately improve our cellular hydration and our overall health.

This means lots of fruits and veggies of course, but also foods you wouldn’t think about as being loaded with water such as nuts and whole wheat breads.

The following is a list of water-filled fruits and veggies that may help improve cellular hydration and hence overall health:

  • Apples
  • Avocados
  • Cucumbers
  • Corn
  • Pumpkin
  • Bananas
  • Blackberries
  • Beets
  • Blueberries
  • Yams
  • Squash
  • Goji Berries
  • Watermelon
  • Figs
  • Broccoli
  • Grapefruit
  • Grapes
  • Kiwis
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Apricots
  • Mangoes
  • Nectarines
  • Pomegranates
  • Zucchini
  • Salad Greens
  • Oranges
  • Asparagus
  • And More!

This idea of getting hydration through food is kind of fascinating to me and although I already get a lot of my nutrients through fruits and vegetables, this simply reinforces the idea of 75% clean green fruits and vegetables and 25% other stuff ( meat, nuts, grain, etc.). I have found this book so fascinating and enlightening. It is definitely a must read for the beauty obsessed (like me!) who are interested in knowing how are skin conditions are directly affected by the condition of our overall bodily and psychological health and how we can aim to heal ourselves from the inside out. It may also be a good read for those interested in in depth health research. This book is pretty easy to understand, but there is a lot of medical jargon included so it can get a little wordy, but is explained in simpler terms for those who are not in the medical field.

If interested in checking out this book or purchasing, you can find it here on Amazon.

So, what I’m really getting at is – Get your greens lovelies!

Stay Beautiful
